• Windows Seven, Large and Extra Large icons missing.

  Some of my Large icons and extra large icons in windows 7 have gone blank. Nothing shows up in their place. The media icons are fine, thumbnails are created, tho My Computer can't show an icon for my drives when i ask it to show them in Large and Extra Large formats. Also I can't change my computer desktop, it's just black. Which system files have been damaged, how can i replace them?

• Icons in windows 8 changed automatically

  The icons of my folders in Windows 8 have changed automatically ! Now it is similar to that of the Unknown File Type icon. My C: drive icon and some icons in the Explorer-Home menu had also changed, but they became normal after a restart. But the folder icons (Medium Size) don't change. • Changing running application's icon in taskbar (not pinned icons) [Solved]

  I'm using an IDE with multiple windows that cluttered up my taskbar. All the icons and labels are exactly the same (totally unhelpful). I used 7 Taskbar Tweaker (http://rammichael.com/7-taskbar-tweaker-v1-6) to remove the labels from the buttons, but now I'm looking at multiple identical icons. Is there any way to change the icons of these windows, even though they are the same application? This picture shows 5 windows, all from the same program, and 3 windows from Google Chrome. They all look the same! Solved, but please note: These two programs (same author) both work for this, easily: Title Bar Changer Studio & WindowStudio . The problem is, I had my program pinned, which for some reason was causing the icons to not change. Make sure your program is not pinned for this to work!

• How to install gnome shell extensions offline?

  I know how to go to the https://extensions.gnome.org/ website and download gnome-shell extensions, but now I need to install some extensions available there on a computer without any internet access at all. It is in a internal corporate network and there's no way I can get outside internet access on it, so I must find another way. I can copy files in a usb disk. At my home computer, I have found my extensions at ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ but just copying this folder to the target corporate computer didn't do the trick. Running gnome-tweak-tool gives me a "Install Shell Extension" button but I don't know how to download an extension in a format acceptable to install using this button. I have tried to point to the folder above but it didn't work either. What do I need to do?

• Wrong notification on GNOME Shell?

  I just installed GNOME Shell on my 12.04 a couple hours ago. The notifications are just cool, and I installed shell extensions, and it works smoothly in 1 hour. Then I restarted my computer for some reason, start back in to GNOME. And I was surprised with the default notification showed up. It replaced the GNOME notifications! I tried to: Reinstall gnome-shell. (autoremove and install) Reset desktop configuration. But it didn't work at all. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Plus: I got a double notification (osd + gnome notification showed up) when someone chatted me.

• Disable Alt for window move in gnome-shell

  There are lots of posts on this about Unity, this is about gnome-shell As with other posters, I use apps (Inkscape in particular) that uses Alt-Click and Alt-drag. Gnome-shell is grabbing this off me and thus disabling features in the application. I have tried using ccsm's Move plugin - you can turn this off and you still get Alt-drag window moving. using gconf editor to change /apps/metacity/general/mouse_button_modifier - this has no effect AFAICS. It's really hindering me. Otherwise I find gnome-shell a really productive environment.

• Gnome Shell opens as classic

  I'm running 12.04 on a Gateway LT4004u netbook, and I installed Gnome3 using the apt-get commands in the terminal. When I rebooted and ran "Gnome Shell" it opened up classic mode. I thought that my cursor might have slipped the first time, but on multiple retries logging in under gnome shell would open the gnome classic desktop. I even uninstalled Gnome Shell and reinstalled it with software center, but I still have the same problem. I was wondering if this might be an issue with my graphics card? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks! -Joe

  I want to give Gnome-Shell the highest priority, but I couldn't change the priority on the System Monitor, an error messeage says: Can't change priority's process with pid 2841 to -5. Access denied I tried the following commands: gksu gnome-system-monitor But I can't find Gnome-Shell on the processes list, so I tried "renice command", like this: sudo renice -15 2841 And finally got this problem, the Gnome-Shell's PID always changes, it's not the same PID numbers, so I have to change the priority every time I start up my system.   Hi, I've been using this simple command (that's all I can do :) to backup the whole tree from my user data in NAS server for a year. cp -r /STORAGE /BACKUP-STORAGE/YYYY-MM-DD Unfortunately, after a year of service. My user start filling the spaces with lot of photo and cliparts (jpg, gif, bmp) And that start to make my backup process get much slower. The space is also a big issue. Now I no longer have enough space for a week-long daily backup set. I think I want to change from backup everything to backup only non-image data. How can I exclude jpg, gif, and bmp from the backup ? It's quite easy with DOS XCOPY command, but I really have no idea how to do that in bash. Thanks

• Burg Custom Icons work only with specific themes

  I have made a custom icon for burg loader for my Lenovo Recovery Partition.I have made 3 icons : large_qdrive.png (128 X 128 pixels) small_qdrive.png (24 X 24 pixels) grey_qdrive.png (128 x 128 pixels) The .png icons that I created I made them using gimp from a qdrive.ico file that I found in the Lenovo Recovery Partition. I transferred the icons to the /boot/burg/themes/icons folder and I added to the class list of the grey,large,small and the hover files the following lines : -qdrive { image = "$$/large_qdrive.png" } in the large file -qdrive { image = "$$/small_qdrive.png" } in the small file -qdrive { image = "$$/grey_qdrive.png" } in the grey file -qdrive { image = "$$/grey_qdrive.png:$$/large_qdrive.png" } in the hover file I ran sudo update-burg and after that I modified the following line in the burg.cfg file : menuentry "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2)" --class windows --class os { to menuentry "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2)" --class qdrive --class os { and I also tried to change the title for the Lenovo Recovery Partition,so I tried this as well: menuentry "Lenovo Recovery Partition (on /dev/sda2)" --class qdrive --class os { None of this tries enforced actually burg loader to use the custom icon that I made and I can't figure out why. I have to mention also that there are a few themes that I have installed in burg which actually are able to use the small_qdrive.png icon that I made,but all the others which use either the large_qdrive.png or the grey_qdrive.png weren't able to use the custom icons. I have double checked for typos in all the files that I have created or I modified,so I am pretty sure that I haven't misspelled anything. I have checked also the title of the custom icons that I made and neither of them have a typo. I have looked also if there are any other folder that the themes might use to retrieve the icons,but it seems that all of them except for **Fortune** theme,which I downloaded from OMG!UBUNTU,use the icons folder which is located in /boot/burg/themes/icons I tried to add the custom icons to the icons folder of the theme **Fortune**,but still nothing happened.

  My new Acer Aspire One netbook came pre-installed with Windows 7 Starter and lots of other promotional software. Some of them (like Norton and McAfee) I uninstalled immediately. Others (like the Barnes & Notble Desktop Reader and the Times Reader) I would like to keep until I see whether they can be useful). Regardless, I would like to remove their desktop icons (making them accessible through the Start menu only), in such a way that when I add another user account, these desktop icons will not appear on that user's desktop. But when I checked my desktop folder C:\Users\an00b\Desktop I noticed that it's empty! So my desktop's folder is empty, but the icons are still visible on the Desktop. How is this possible? • Dock displays low-resolution icons

  Recently, I've noticed that the dock has been starting to display low-resolution icons in place of the former high-resolution icons for common apps like Stickies, Word, iTunes and Preview. Looking at the .icns file within each program, all copies of the icon are present within the file (high and low resolutions), but the dock refuses to display them, leaving some programs looking like this: Restarting doesn't stop this behaviour, nor does a killall Dock, nor removing the icon and replacing it in the dock. In Finder, the icons display normally. Does anybody know what may be causing this issue? Thanks!

• OS X SnowLeopard menubar icons appear/disappear in 8 second cycle

  I just bought a new Mac Mini, and used Migration Assistant to move a user from an iMac to it. All went well, except a very strange behavior... the default OS X menubar icons like time, spotlight, etc (but NOT user installed app icons like dropbox or xmarks) appear and disappear in a very regular 8 second cycle. They appear for about 2 seconds, and then disappear for about 6. This is a screenshot with the icons, and this is a screenshot without them. This is very annoying and I have not found anything online with similar symptoms. Any ideas?

• Odd behavior of permissions and icons

  After some virus had infected my Windows 7, I did a complete format and re-installed the OS. I was just installing applications and copying back some data when I noticed some shortcuts changing their icons to something I couldnt recognize (Yellow icons in the image below). Also, a few exe files which previously did not ask for User permission, are now asking for it. Wondering if this is an icon cache problem, I cleared the cache by deleting the IconCache.db in AppData/Local but the problem still persists. Although I did a full system scan with MS Security Essentials, I'm not sure if this is another virus or some other problem. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Edit: Now even Firefox needs permissions to launch. It's icon hasnt changed, but it's got the 'shield' overlay on it like the other yellow icons.

• Gnome Shell Blank edge until restart?

  Since I installed Gnome Shell (which I much prefer over Unity), there has been a small annoyance appearing on the right side of my screen. As you can see in the picture below, there is a blank few pixels on the right side of the screen. It goes away if I reload gnome-shell ("r" command), but obviously, I'd prefer that this is not necessary. I'm not sure what exactly is causing this, but was hoping someone might be able to help.
