  • Suggestions on how build an HTML Diff tool?

    - by Danimal
In this post I asked if there were any tools that compare the structure (not actual content) of 2 HTML pages. I ask because I receive HTML templates from our designers, and frequently miss minor formatting changes in my implementation. I then waste a few hours of designer time sifting through my pages to find my mistakes. The thread offered some good suggestions, but there was nothing that fit the bill. "Fine, then", thought I, "I'll just crank one out myself. I'm a halfway-decent developer, right?". Well, once I started to think about it, I couldn't quite figure out how to go about it. I can crank out a data-driven website easily enough, or do a CMS implementation, or throw documents in and out of BizTalk all day. Can't begin to figure out how to compare HTML docs. Well, sure, I have to read the DOM, and iterate through the nodes. I have to map the structure to some data structure (how??), and then compare them (how??). It's a development task like none I've ever attempted. So now that I've identified a weakness in my knowledge, I'm even more challenged to figure this out. Any suggestions on how to get started? clarification: the actual content isn't what I want to compare -- the creative guys fill their pages with lorem ipsum, and I use real content. Instead, I want to compare structure: <div class="foo">lorem ipsum<div> is different that <div class="foo"><p>lorem ipsum<p><div>

  • Prevent Javascript Execution in JQuery html()

    - by Mahan

  • mysql to xml (DOM question)

    - by Jerry
    Hello guys I am new to php dom and trying to get the mysql data transfer into xml. My current xml output is like this <markers> <city> <name>Seattle</name> <size>medium</size> <name>New York</name> <size>big</size> <city> <markers> but I want to change it to <markers> <city> <name>Seattle</name> <size>medium</size> <city> <city> <name>New York</name> <size>big</size> </city> <city> <markers> my php $dom=new DOMDocument("1.0"); $node=$dom->createElement("markers"); $parnode=$dom->appendChild($node); $firstElement=$dom->createElement("city"); $parnode->appendChild($firstElement); $getLocationQuery=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM location",$connection); header("Content-type:text/xml"); while($row=mysql_fetch_assoc($getLocationQuery)){ foreach ($row as $fieldName=>$value){ $child=$dom->createElement($fieldName); $value=$dom->createTextNode($value); $child->appendChild($value); $firstElement->appendChild($child); } } I can't figure out how to change my php code.   • jQuery .html not writing span on page load, rights the span on ajax response

    - by pedalpete
I've got a bit of a calendar I'm building with events that go beyond the boundary of one day. I've got a graph which shows how many events are running concurrently. In order to graph out the events which go into another day, I look for hours24, and run an extra bit of code. jQuery('li#hour'+placeGroup+'_'+schedDay2+'_'+thisHour,nextDay).data('count', numStaff).html(''+printHour+''+numEvents+' scheduled').css('height',numEvents*5+'px'); The code is working, the li items are being found, proper height is the css is being applied, data is set, which I've checked by running alert(jQuery('li#hour'+placeGroup+'_'+schedDay2+'_'+thisHour,nextDay).data('count')); right after the pervious bit of code. The only thing that isn't being done is the .html(add span) stuff. I run this code in two places. Once when the page loads, and once when an action is taken which changes the number of events via an ajax response. The li DOM object I'm writting to is created before the script is run, and the height is being applied, but not the span, and only on page load. Any ideas on this one? I'm stumped.

  • HTML: How to get a child element to show behidn (lower z-index) than its parent

    - by dclowd9901
I need for a certain dynamic element to always appear on top of another element, no matter what order in the DOM tree they are. Is this possible? I've tried z-index (with position: relative), and it doesn't seem to work. I hate to be vague, but this is the simplest way I can think of asking this question without explaining its purpose ad nauseum. So, to recap, I need <div class="a"> <div class="b"></div> </div> <div class="b"> <div class="a"></div> </div> To display exactly the same when rendered. And for flexibility purposes (I'm planning on distributing a plugin that needs this functionality), I'd really like to not have to resort to absolute or fixed positioning.

  • How to escape HTML.

    - by kokila
    I have a string which contains HTML text. I need to escape just the strings and not tags. For example, I have string which contains, <ul class="main_nav"> <li> <a class="className1" id="idValue1" tabindex="2">Test & Sample</a> </li> <li> <a class="className2" id="idValue2" tabindex="2">Test & Sample2</a> </li> </ul> How to escape just the text to, <ul class="main_nav"> <li> <a class="className1" id="idValue1" tabindex="2">Test &amp; Sample</a> </li> <li> <a class="className2" id="idValue2" tabindex="2">Test &amp; Sample2</a> </li> </ul> with out modifying the tags. Can this be handled with HTML DOM and javascript? Thanks

  • How to convert a DOM node list to an array in Javascript?

    - by Guss
I have a Javascript function that accepts a list of HTML nodes, but it expects a Javascript array (it runs some Array methods on that) and I want to feed it the output of Document.getElementsByTagName that returns a DOM node list. Initially I thought of using something simple like: Array.prototype.slice.call(list,0) And that works fine in all browsers, except of course Internet Explorer which returns the error "JScript object expected", as apparently the DOM node list returned by Document.getElement* methods is not a JScript object enough to be the target of a function call. Caveats: I don't mind writing Internet Explorer specific code, but I'm not allowed to use any Javascript libraries such as JQuery because I'm writing a widget to be embedded into 3rd party web site, and I cannot load external libraries that will create conflict for the clients. My last ditch effort is to iterate over the DOM node list and create an array myself, but is there a nicer way to do that?

  • Adding images to the html with javascript

    - by Anonymous
I've tried some HTML DOM code from several sites, but it isn't working. It isn't adding anything. Does anyone have a working example on this? this.img = document.createElement("img"); this.img.src = "img/eqp/"+this.apparel+"/"+this.facing+"_idle.png"; src = getElementById("gamediv"); src.appendChild(this.img) But it isn't adding anything to the div. (gamediv) I've tried document.body as well, with no result. Thanks in advance.

  • Prototype or jQuery for DOM manipulation (client-side dynamic content)

    - by luiggitama
I need to know which of these two JavaScript frameworks is better for client-side dynamic content modification for known DOM elements (by id), in terms of performance, memory usage, etc.: Prototype's $('id').update(content) jQuery's jQuery('#id').html(content) BTW, both libraries coexist with no conflict in my app, because I'm using RichFaces for JSF development, that's why I can use "jQuery" instead of "$". I have at least 20 updatable areas in my page, and for each one I prepare content (tables, option lists, etc.), based on some user-defined client-side criteria filtering or some AJAX event, etc., like this: var html = []; int idx = 0; ... html[idx++] = '<tr><td class="cell"><span class="link" title="View" onclick="myFunction('; html[idx++] = param; html[idx++] = ')"></span>'; html[idx++] = someText; html[idx++] = '</td></tr>'; ... So here comes the question, which is better to use: // Prototype's $('myId').update(html.join('')); // or jQuery's jQuery('#myId').html(html.join('')); Other needed functions are hide() and show(), which are present in both frameworks. Which is better? Also I'm needing to enable/disable form controls, and to read/set their values. Note that I know my updatable area's id (I don't need CSS selectors at this point). And I must tell that I'm saving these queried objects in some data structure for later use, so they are requested just once when the page is rendered, like this: MyData = {div1:jQuery('#id1'), div2:$('id2'), ...}; ... div1.update('content 1'); div2.html('content 2'); So, which is the best practice?

  • When should JavaScript generate HTML?

    - by VirtuosiMedia
I try to generate as little HTML from JavaScript as possible. Instead, I prefer to manipulate existing markup whenever I can and only generate HTML when I need to dynamically insert an element that isn't a good candidate for using Ajax. This, I believe, makes it far easier to maintain the code and quickly make changes to it because the markup is easier to read and trace. My rule of thumb is: HTML is for document structure, CSS is for presentation, JavaScript is for behavior. However, I've seen a lot of JS code that generates mounds of HTML, including entire forms and content-heavy modal dialogs. In general, which method is considered best practice? In what circumstances should JavaScript be used to generate HTML and when should it not?

  • Java library for HTML analysis

    - by Raj
Hi, (I've seen similar questions, but I think none of them cater to my specific needs, hence...) I would like to know if there is a Java library for analysis of real-world (read: incomplete, ill-formed) HTML. By analysis, I mean things like: figuring out the most prominent color in an HTML chunk changing that color to some other color (hence, has to support modification of the HTML as well) pruning out unwanted tags fixing up the HTML to result in a well formed HTML snippet Parts of the last two are done by libraries such as Jericho, and jTidy. 'Plugins' on top of these would be great. Thanks in advance!

  • javascript compare two DOM trees

    - by Paul
I want to compare the change of a DOM node after a user event is fired on it; but I don't know on which element a user would fire, so my idea is to (1) save the DOM tree before an event and (2) compare the saved tree with the updated DOM tree when an event is fired. My question are (1) is there any better way? and (2) if there is no other way, what would be the fast algorithm to compare two DOM trees?

  • Pure JSP without mixing HTML, by writing html as Java-like code

    - by ADTC
Please read before answering. This is a fantasy programming technique I'm dreaming up. I want to know if there's anything close in real life. The following JSP page: <% html { head { title {"Pure fantasy";} } body { h1 {"A heading with double quote (\") character";} p {"a paragraph";} String s = "a paragraph in string. the date is "; p { s; new Date().toString(); } table (Border.ZERO, new Padding(27)) { tr { for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { td {i;} } } } } } %> could generate the following HTML page: <html> <head> <title>Pure fantasy</title> </head> <body> <h1>A heading with double quote (") character</h1> <p>a paragraph</p> <p>a paragraph in string. the date is 11 December 2012</p> <table border="0" padding="27"> <tr> <td>0</td> <td>1</td> <td>2</td> <td>3</td> <td>4</td> <td>5</td> <td>6</td> <td>7</td> <td>8</td> <td>9</td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> The thing about this fantasy is it reuses the same old Java programming language technique that enable customized keywords used in a way similar to if-else-then, while, try-catch etc to represent html tags in a non-html way that can easily be checked for syntactic correctness, and most importantly can easily be mixed up with regular Java code without being lost in a sea of <%, %>, <%=, out.write(), etc. An added feature is that strings can directly be placed as commands to print out into generated HTML, something Java doesn't support (where pure strings have to be assigned to variables before use). Is there anything in real life that comes close? If not, is it possible to define customized keywords in Java or JSP? Or do I have to create an entirely new programming language for that? What problems do you see with this kind of setup? PS: I know you can use HTML libraries to construct HTML using Java code, but the problem with such libraries is, the source code itself doesn't have a readable HTML representation like the code above does - if you get what I mean.

  • Sending HTML to Gmail always lands in Spam

    - by cartaysm
I am having an issue with sending HTML emails to Gmail. I can send them to Yahoo, Hotmail, RR, AOL, etc. with no problem at all, but when I send them to Gmail I get kicked to spam. I have checked my IP with a lot of different list to make sure it is not listed anywhere, which it is not. spamhaus = is not listed in the DBL abuse.net = is not listed in the SBL abuse.net = is not listed in the PBL abuse.net = is not listed in the XBL spamcop = not listed in bl.spamcop.net host 24.172.204.xxx xxx.204.172.24.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer xxxevents.com. host xxxevents.com xxxevents.com has address 24.172.204.xxx xxxevents.com mail is handled by 10 mail.xxxevents.com. I am just trying to send a very VERY basic HTML message (listed below). I use an Ubuntu server, swiftmailer, multipart/alternative (HTML & plain), SPF = pass, and I am going to setup DKIM today to see if that fixes it (but I doubt it will)... For now I will only post the message I sent that gets kicked to spam and can provide any details needed. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head><title>Triathlon</title></head> <body> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td> <p>Thank you for attending our 4th annual Triathlon/Duathlon/5k at Hueston Woods State Park on August 12th. I am almost done install opendkim so I will be able to rule that out very soon. Edit: Okay installed opendkim and I am getting passing results so I sent the html I posted above it went through just fine. So now when I start to add a few more lines I am getting kicked back to spam again. Here is updated html code: ` <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head><title>Triathlon</title></head> <body> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td> <center><a href='http://xxxevents.com' target="_blank"> <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" color="#666666" size="2"> <img src="http://xxxevents.com/marketemailimages/xxxlogo.png" alt="xxx It Events | Raising funds for Crohns, Colitis, and Muscular Dystrophy" border="0" /> </font></a></center> </td> <tr> <td> <p>Thank you for attending our 4th annual Triathlon/Duathlon/5k at Hueston Woods State Park on August 12th. • Html Agility Pack for Reading “Real World” HTML

    - by WeigeltRo
In an ideal world, all data you need from the web would be available via well-designed services. In the real world you sometimes have to scrape the data off a web page. Ugly, dirty – but if you really want that data, you have no choice. Just don’t write (yet another) HTML parser. I stumbled across the Html Agility Pack (HAP) a long time ago, but just now had the need for a robust way to read HTML. A quote from the website: This is an agile HTML parser that builds a read/write DOM and supports plain XPATH or XSLT (you actually don't HAVE to understand XPATH nor XSLT to use it, don't worry...). It is a .NET code library that allows you to parse "out of the web" HTML files. The parser is very tolerant with "real world" malformed HTML. The object model is very similar to what proposes System.Xml, but for HTML documents (or streams). Using the HAP was a simple matter of getting the Nuget package, taking a look at the example and dusting off some of my XPath knowledge from years ago. The documentation on the Codeplex site is non-existing, but if you’ve queried a DOM or used XPath or XSLT before you shouldn’t have problems finding your way around using Intellisense (ReSharper tip: Press Ctrl+Shift+F1 on class members for reading the full doc comments).

  • The 100% width HTML element problem

    - by Xeoncross
When assigning some HTML elements (like a form input) 100% width - you can no longer apply any additional styles that might effect the width. Things like border or padding will cause the element to exceed 100%. This results in awkward elements that may be outside of their parent elements. Since CSS doesn't support width: 100% - 2px; The only way I know around this is to use an absolute pixel width (width: 98px) or chop the element off at 100% which is not really an option. <div style="overflow:hidden;"> <input style="width:100%; border: 1px solid #000;" /> </div> Are they're any other ways around this?

  • From escaped html -> to regular html? - Python

Hi folks, I used BeautifulSoup to handle XML files that I have collected through a REST API. The responses contain HTML code, but BeautifulSoup escapes all the HTML tags so it can be displayed nicely. Unfortunately I need the HTML code. How would I go on about transforming the escaped HTML into proper markup? Help would be very much appreciated!

  • HTML overlay height to cover entire visible page

    - by Evgeny
I have a web page that loads some stuff using AJAX. I want to display an overlay with a loading indicator while the loading is in progress, so that the user cannot interact with most of the page - except the menu at the top. I'm using jQuery and the jQuery BlockUI plugin to do this. I call $(element).block() and it works fine, but the overlay only extends as far down as the current content of my page. As more content is loaded and added to the page the overlay moves down with it and this looks a bit ugly. Ideally I'd like it to cover the entire visible area of the page right from the start. A simple hack for doing this would be to set a large height value for the overlay, like this: $(myElement).block({ overlayCSS: { height: '10000px' } }); ... but this creates a scrollbar! How do I avoid this and make it just the right height to cover the visible page, but not enlarge it?

  • Why do we write the action to be performed by a function in jQuery inside the parentheses?

    - by ikartik90
Generally whenever we're programming in any Programming language, say C, we would pass the parameters we need to pass to a function using the parentheses next to the name of the function. Whereas in jQuery, other than the user defined function() we write the action we need the function to perform inside the parentheses, for example, $('div').mouseenter(function(){ /* blah blah blah*/ }); Why?

  • Showing HTML comment strings (<!-- -->) in HTML files

    - by Andrei
Hello all. I'm building a source code search engine, and I'm returning the results on a HTML page (aspx to be exact, but the view logic is in HTML). When someone searches a string, I also return the whole line of code where this string can be found in a file. However, some lines of code come from HTML/aspx files and these lines contain HTML specific comments (). When I try to print this line on the HTML page, it interprets it as a comment and does not show it on the screen....how should I go about solving this so that it actually shows up? Any help would be welcomed. Thanks. edit: err...i see now that firebug could help me with this: <!-- -->

  • Capturing Drupal7 DOM content before page load for comparison

    - by ehime
    We have an MU (Multisite) installation of Drupal7 here at work, and are trying to temporarily hold back the swarm of bots we receive until we get a chance to load our content. I wrote a quick and and dirty script to send 503 headers if we find a certain criteria in Xpath (This can ALSO be done as a strpos/preg_match if DOM is not formed). In order to get the ball rolling though I need to figure out how to either A) Hijack the Drupal7 bootstrap and pull all content through this filter below B) ob_flush content through the filter before content is loaded The issue that I am having is figuring out exactly where I can catch the content at? I thought that index.php in Drupal7 would be the suspect, but I'm a little confused as to where or how I should capture the contents. Here's the script, and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. //error_reporting(-1); /* start query */ $dom = new DOMDocument; $dom->preserveWhiteSpace = false; $dom->Load($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); $xpath = new DOMXPath($dom); //if this exists we aren't ready to be read by bots $query = $xpath->query(".//*[@id='block-views-about-this-site-block']/div/div/div"); //or $query = 'klat-badge'; //if this is a string not DOM /* end query */ if(strpos($query) !== false) { //require banlist require('botlist.php'); $str = strtolower('/'.implode('|', array_unique($list)).'/i'); if(preg_match($str, strtolower($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']))) { //so tell bots we're broken header('HTTP/1.1 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable'); header('Status: 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable'); exit; } }

  • How do you parse an HTML in vb.net

  • Fast, lightweight HTML parser for C++

    - by Jen
I'm looking for a fast, lightweight open-source HTML parser -- something along the lines of a non-validating SAX parser (except, of course, for HTML). The answers to this question cover a parser that generates a DOM (don't want that), and these answers suggest conforming the HTML to XML before sending it to Xerxes (can't do that in my case). Any suggestions?
