  • Cacti: "An internal Net-Snmp error condition detected in Cacti snmp_count"

    - by Recc
There's the odd forum topic about an error similarly obscure as this, but I haven't seen any for snmp_count in particular. Also I don't see graphing problems, though I can't simply go and eyeball all graphs. However the poller does time out and has to be stopped by its internal process preventing overruns. If I filter out the flood of this error in the log I dont get anything else except the poller timeout: 06/12/2014 12:48:00 PM - POLLER: Poller[0] Maximum runtime of 58 seconds exceeded. Exiting. 06/12/2014 12:48:00 PM - SYSTEM STATS: Time:58.8566 Method:spine Processes:1 Threads:40 Hosts:1923 HostsPerProcess:1923 DataSources:61584 RRDsProcessed:0 06/12/2014 12:48:00 PM - SPINE: Poller[0] ERROR: Spine Timed Out While Processing Hosts Internal I saw in the running processes /usr/local/spine/spine 0 2053 that's always left behind. When I kill it the flooding of the error stops. Of course it's the same on the next poll run as it goes through the devices. 2053 is apparently the DB ID for a device. I deleted it completely to see if that stops it. It doesn't, instead 2052 is seen there. I suspect It'll be the same if I keep deleting devices which I will not do. This started happening midday when I wasn't doing anything to the cacti server. I have tried reducing Maximum Threads per Process to 1 and Number of PHP Script Servers to 1. I've been running it at 10 script servers / 40 threads for months with poll cycle time of about 20 sec. I just found out Running snmpwalk on any host would begin returning the values but then timeout halfway through. This doesn't happen from different servers on the network this Cacti is suggesting still that it's a problem with it locally. Any suggestions? For one polling cycle I changed to use cmd.php instead. then I started getting errors like CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[45] DS[541] WARNING: Result from SNMP not valid. Partial Result: U Perhaps as expected. Looking closely I see that every snmpwalk I do is interrupted at the same place as if some byte limit is hit and the connection torn down.

  • How to calculate CPU % based on raw CPU ticks in SNMP

    - by bjeanes
According to http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/docs/mibs/ucdavis.html#scalar_notcurrent ssCpuUser, ssCpuSystem, ssCpuIdle, etc are deprecated in favor of the raw variants (ssCpuRawUser, etc). The former values (which don't cover things like nice, wait, kernel, interrupt, etc) returned a percentage value: The percentage of CPU time spent processing user-level code, calculated over the last minute. This object has been deprecated in favour of 'ssCpuRawUser(50)', which can be used to calculate the same metric, but over any desired time period. The raw values return the "raw" number of ticks the CPU spent: The number of 'ticks' (typically 1/100s) spent processing user-level code. On a multi-processor system, the 'ssCpuRaw*' counters are cumulative over all CPUs, so their sum will typically be N*100 (for N processors). My question is: how do you turn the number of ticks into percentage? That is, how do you know how many ticks per second (it's typically — which implies not always — 1/100s, which either means 1 every 100 seconds or that a tick represents 1/100th of a second). I imagine you also need to know how many CPUs there are or you need to fetch all the CPU values to add them all together. I can't seem to find a MIB that gives you an integer value for # of CPUs which makes the former route awkward. The latter route seems unreliable because some of the numbers overlap (sometimes). For example, ssCpuRawWait has the following warning: This object will not be implemented on hosts where the underlying operating system does not measure this particular CPU metric. This time may also be included within the 'ssCpuRawSystem(52)' counter. Some help would be appreciated. Everywhere seems to just say that % is deprecated because it can be derived, but I haven't found anywhere that shows the official standard way to perform this derivation. The second component is that these "ticks" seem to be cumulative instead of over some time period. How do I sample values over some time period? The ultimate information I want is: % of user, system, idle, nice (and ideally steal, though there doesn't seem to be a standard MIB for this) "currently" (over the last 1-60s would probably be sufficient, with a preference for smaller time spans).

  • Process-to-port mapping with SNMP and/or wmi/wmic in java

    - by Niddy888
I'm trying to use SNMP to map outgoing ports on my host computer with the application running on the computer that is responsible for that communication. When running "netstat -ano" I get access to Protocol, Local Address (with port), Foreign Address (with port), State and PID. But I want to do this entirely without having to execute "cmd" from Java. By using SNMP OID: .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.4 (.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.host.hrSWRun) I get access to PID (ex. 1704), Name (ex. cmd.exe), Path (ex. C:\Windows\system32) among others. There is an SNMP OID: .1.3.6.1.2.1.6.13 (.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.tcp.tcpConnTable) that give you access to TCP connection state, local address, local port, remote address, remote port. But NO PID. So to sum up. My question again: Is there a way to "map" these tables together? Either directly in SNMP with other OID's or in conjunction with WMI / WMIC?

  • How to install Grub2 under several common scenarios

    - by Huckle
I feel the community has long needed a clean guide on how to install Grub2 under a a few extremely common scenarios. I will accept answer as solved when it has one section per scenario and assumes nothing other than what is specified. Please add to the existing answer, wiki style, keeping to the original assumptions. Rules: 1. You cannot, at any point in the answer, invoke Ubiquity (the Ubuntu installer). 2. I strongly recommend not using any automatic boor-repair tools as they're not very educational Scenario 1: Non-booting Linux OS, No boot partition, Fix from Live CD Setup: /dev/sda1 is formatted ext* /dev/sda2 is formatted linux_swap /dev/sda1 doesn't boot because MBR is scrambled and /boot/* was erased Explain: How to boot to a Live CD / USB and restore Grub2 to the MBR and /boot of /dev/sda1 Scenario 2: Non-booting Linux OS, Boot partition, Fix from Live CD Setup: /dev/sda1 is formatted fat /dev/sda2 is formatted ext* /dev/sda3 is formatted linux_swap /dev/sda2 doesn't boot because the MBR is scrambled and /dev/sda1 was formatted Explain: How to boot to a Live CD / USB and restore Grub2 to the MBR and /dev/sda1 and then update the fstab on /dev/sda2 Scenario 3: Install on to thumb drive, Booting various OSes, From Linux OS Setup: /dev/sdb is removable media /dev/sdb1 is formatted fat /dev/sdb2 is formatted ext* /dev/sdb3 is formatted fat The MBR of /dev/sdb is otherwise not initialized You are executing from a Linux based OS installed on /dev/sda Explain: How to install Grub2 on to /dev/sdb1, mark /dev/sdb1 active, be able to chose between /dev/sdb2 and /dev/sdb3 on boot. • resolve snmp oids in perl

    - by Sec
Is there a simple way/module to map snmp(MIB) strings to OIDs in perl? E.g. I start with "sysUpTime.0" and get "1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0". As far as I can see, Net::SNMP expects you to have them already mapped.

  • Obtain newer version of NetSNMP for CentOS 5

    - by jtnire
I'm using CentOS 5. I have a need to use net-snmp version "net-snmp-utils-5.5-37.el6_2.1.x86_64" which is currently available in CentOS 6 but not in CentOS 5. The reason I need this version (or greater) is because there is a new supported option added to the config files that I need for my setup. It would be very much appreciated if someone would give me some steps to install this version (or greater) on my production CentOS 5 systems. Upgrading to CentOS 6 is currently not an option. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Is /dev in linux virtual?

    - by user973917
Today at work a client had rm -rf /dev and ended up deleting two files in /dev/shm that forced his site to no longer work. From what I learned previously /dev is not virtual, but a fellow technician had suggested to reboot the server because /dev is virtual like /proc. Sure enough I rebooted the server and the files that the client rm -rf'd were there. So, my question is; is /dev virtual? Is it the kind of virtual like /proc? Is there more documentation on this? How can I restore the /dev files without a server reboot?

  • Configure vlan on Netgear switch via SNMP

    - by Russell Gallop
I am trying to configure vlans on a netgear GS752TSX from the Linux command line with netsnmp. I have created vlan 99 on the web interface now want to control the pvid settings, egress and tagging. • Unreceived SNMP traps

    - by Stephen Murby
I have 2 CISCO IE3000 and 2 IE3010 switches. They are each configured to send traps to the one host which hosts my NMS [ManageEngine]. The only traps I have enabled on the switches are authentication and linkStatus messages (Up/Down), currently I have my NMS polling with the right community and receiving as ManageEngine checks when adding a managed device, but no linkStatus traps are received. I know they are coming because I have capture them with wireshark, but they are not received by my NMS, any ideas?

  • GNU/Linux: SAS-disk detected as /dev/sg7 - not as /dev/sdb

Then I moved the SAS disk to a different Debian server, the same hardware model and running same version of Debian, but here the SAS disk is detected as /dev/sg7 and not /dev/sdb. smartctl -a /dev/sg7 works fine, but fdisk and cat hang. I tried putting the SAS disk in another slot: Same problem. • SNMP from the browser

    - by moogs
There"s this idea of having a web app search for devices in the network (with elevated user permissions, of course). Checking the silverlight and flash APIs, there does not seem to be a way to do SNMP ( the UDP APIs are limited to multicasting media ). Anyone know a clever workaround? In windows, a small XBAP utility can do the SNMP stuff, but that leaves out the Mac OS X platform. Thanks for any ideas. ( I do have a SO account but I"m in a not so trustworthy public PC right now so I didn"t log in. )

  • snmpd agent sends duplicate traps

    - by jsnmp
I am on Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS, and I cannot upgrade to a higher version. I have installed the snmpd agent (NET-SNMP version 5.4.2.1) with an apt-get install snmpd command. When an event occurs which sends a trap, two traps are sent for each such event instead of one. For example, when I shut down the agent with command /etc/init.d/snmpd stop, two shutdown traps are sent to the destination host. If I then start back up the agent with command /etc/init.d/snmpd start, then two cold start traps are sent to the destination host. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix for this, or is there a configuration change that is needed to prevent the sending of the duplicate trap? These are the contents of the /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf file: rocommunity public authtrapenable 1 trap2sink <trap destination hostname> public These are the contents of the /etc/default/snmpd file: # This file controls the activity of snmpd and snmptrapd # MIB directories. /usr/share/snmp/mibs is the default, but # including it here avoids some strange problems. export MIBDIRS=/usr/share/snmp/mibs # snmpd control (yes means start daemon). • /dev/sda1 not a subset of /dev/sda?

    - by Guillaume Brunerie
Hi, the first entry of my partition table is: $ sudo hexdump -Cv -n 16 -s 446 /dev/sda 000001be 80 01 01 00 83 fe ff ff 3f 00 00 00 81 1c 20 03 |........?..... .| (-Cv describe the output format, -n 16 asks for 16 bytes and -s 446 skips the first 446 bytes) You can see that my first partition is a primary Linux partition and that this partition begin at sector 63 (see for example here for the structure of the partition table). I would then expect that except for the first 63 sectors and the other partitions, /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda are exactly the same. But this is not the case, the sector #2 of /dev/sda1 is not exactly the same as the sector #65 of /dev/sda (but they are very similar, only 16 bytes are different): $ sudo hexdump -Cv -n 512 -s 65b • Compile latest blender on ubuntu 12.0464bit?

    - by gabriel
What i want is to compile latest blender from SVN. I am using this guide My issues are: How can i install it with the final .deb created file and how can i give this package to a ppa! So, when i execute sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install subversion build-essential gettext \ libxi-dev libsndfile1-dev \ libpng12-dev libfftw3-dev \ libopenexr-dev libopenjpeg-dev \ libopenal-dev libalut-dev libvorbis-dev \ libglu1-mesa-dev libsdl1.2-dev libfreetype6-dev \ libtiff4-dev libavdevice-dev \ libavformat-dev libavutil-dev libavcodec-dev libjack-dev \ libswscale-dev libx264-dev libmp3lame-dev python3.2-dev \ libspnav-dev it gives me this The following packages have unmet dependencies: libjack-dev : Depends: libjack0 (= 1:0.121.0+svn4538-3ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I know that skype does not allow the installation of those libraries. Thanks

  • Permission denied on /dev/xvdf despite sudo?

    - by Sid
I'm trying to get a stream off port 9999 and write to /dev/xvdf. I'm using Amazon EC2 with the Ubuntu 11.10 server image. By default I log in as 'ubuntu' which has sudo privileges. However, when I run the following netcat command, I get this error ubuntu@ip-10-252-35-122:~$ ls -al /dev/xv* brw-rw---- 1 root disk 202, 1 2011-11-30 22:22 /dev/xvda1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 202, 80 2011-11-30 22:27 /dev/xvdf ubuntu@ip-10-252-35-122:~$ sudo netcat -p 9999 -l > /dev/xvdf bash: /dev/xvdf: Permission denied ubuntu@ip-10-252-35-122:~$ Any idea why I get the permission denied error and how I can work around it? Update: Something mysterious is running in the background that resets the permissions? Check the snippet below and the permission flags seem to automatically reset when I try using /dev/xvdf !?! ubuntu@ip-10-252-35-122:~$ sudo chmod 777 /dev/xvdf ubuntu@ip-10-252-35-122:~$ ls -al /dev/xvdf brwxrwxrwx 1 root disk 202, 80 2011-11-30 22:43 /dev/xvdf ubuntu@ip-10-252-35-122:~$ sudo nc -p 9999 -l > /dev/xvdf This is nc from the netcat-openbsd package. An alternative nc is available in the netcat-traditional package. usage: nc [-46DdhklnrStUuvzC] [-i interval] [-P proxy_username] [-p source_port] [-s source_ip_address] [-T ToS] [-w timeout] [-X proxy_protocol] [-x proxy_address[:port]] [hostname] [port[s]] ubuntu@ip-10-252-35-122:~$ ls -al /dev/xvdf brw-rw---- 1 root disk 202, 80 2011-11-30 22:43 /dev/xvdf ubuntu@ip-10-252-35-122:~$ I'm using stock Ubuntu Amazon EC2 images from http://alestic.com/ (links to images at the top)

  • snmp, how to retrieve ip connected to the router with MIB-II

    - by dany
Hi all, I want to create a program that acts as manager and that queries the router (or sets a trap) to obtain the list of ip connected to it. My router has these functionalities: SNMP v1, v2c, built-in MIB-I, MIB-II agent. Is it possible to retrieve these informations quering the MIB-II agent of the router in a standard way (not vendor dependent)? Bye

  • snmp and platform specific information

    - by reza
I need to come with a strategy to use gather information about the health of my linux platform, hardware health such as high CPU temperature and may be disk space usage, etc... I know my examples are not very good ones. Essentially, I have an SNMP agent running on Linux and I need it to provide platform specific health and state information. Are there any Linux packages that do this, what MIBs to use, Dell Open Manager functionality??? Any thoughts and comments are appreciated.

  • Is it possible to have SNMP Agent without MIB’s support??

    - by Divya mohan Singh
hii, i am working on SNMP from last few days,i have develope a small application(SNMP Agent) which * Run on 161 port. * Have a tree structured OID support. * Respond to all Get,GetNext,Set Pdu Request types. * Tested with some SNMP Managers(free available) by get and set the values of the OID's. BUT,now question is when i tried it with Cacti it will not respond anything, but detect windows snmp service..it just respond to the requests of the SNMP Managers. So,Is it mandatory to provide mib with SNMP Agent??.
