  • Crash when trying to detect touch

    - by iQue
    I've got a character in a 2D game using surfaceView that I want to be able to move using a button (eventually a joystick), but my game crashes as soon as I try to move my sprite. This is my onTouch-method for my steering button: public void handleActionDown(int eventX, int eventY) { if (eventX >= (x - bitmap.getWidth() / 2) && (eventX <= (x + bitmap.getWidth()/2))) { if (eventY >= (y - bitmap.getHeight() / 2) && (y <= (y + bitmap.getHeight() / 2))) { setTouched(true); } else { setTouched(false); } } else { setTouched(false); } And if I try to put this in my update-method: public void update() { x += (speed.getXv() * speed.getxDirection()); y += (speed.getYv() * speed.getyDirection()); } The sprite moves on its own just fine, but as soon as I add: public void update() { if(steering.isTouched()){ x += (speed.getXv() * speed.getxDirection()); y += (speed.getYv() * speed.getyDirection()); } the game crashes. Does anyone know why this is or how to fix it? I cannot figure it out. I'm using MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN to check if the user if pressing the screen.

  • Android: onKeyDown() problem

    - by niko
Hi, I would like to create a photo/video capture application. I have created a CaptureView class which extends SurfaceView and placed it in the main form. The main form's activity has onCreateOptionsMenu() method which creates a menu. The menu worked fine but then I tried to implement a method onKeyDown: @Override public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { if(event.getAction() == KeyEvent.ACTION_DOWN) { switch(keyCode) { case KeyEvent.KEYCODE_CAMERA: videoPreview.TakePicture(); return true; } } return super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event); } The menu doesn't appear anymore and the method doesn't catch onKeyDown event. Does anyone know what could be the reason for this issue? Thanks!

  • [android] MediaRecorder prepare() causes segfault

    - by dwilde1
Folks, I have a situation where my MediaRecorder instance causes a segfault. I'm working with a HTC Hero, Android 1.5+APIs. I've tried all variations, including 3gpp and H.263 and reducing the video resolution to 320x240. What am I missing? The state machine causes 4 MediaPlayer beeps and then turns on the video camera. Here's the pertinent source: UPDATE: ADDING SURFACE CREATE INFO I have rebooted the device based on previous answer to similar question. UPDATE 2: I seem to be following the MediaRecorder state machine perfectly, and if I trap out the MR code, the blank surface displays perfectly and everything else functions perfectly. I can record videos manually and play back via MediaPlayer in my code, so there should be nothing wrong with the underlying code. I've copied sample code on the surface and surfaceHolder code. I've looked at the MR instance in the Debug perspective in Eclipse and see that all (known) variables seem to be instantiated correctly. The setter calls are all now implemented in the exaxct order specced in the state diagram. // in activity class definition protected MediaPlayer mPlayer; protected MediaRecorder mRecorder; protected boolean inCapture = false; protected int phaseCapture = 0; protected int durCapturePhase = INF; protected SurfaceView surface; protected SurfaceHolder surfaceHolder; // in onCreate() // panelPreview is an empty LinearLayout surface = new SurfaceView(getApplicationContext()); surfaceHolder = surface.getHolder(); surfaceHolder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS); panelPreview.addView(surface); // in timer handler runnable if (mRecorder == null) mRecorder = new MediaRecorder(); mRecorder.setAudioSource(MediaRecorder.AudioSource.MIC); mRecorder.setVideoSource(MediaRecorder.VideoSource.CAMERA); mRecorder.setOutputFormat(MediaRecorder.OutputFormat.THREE_GPP); mRecorder.setAudioEncoder(MediaRecorder.AudioEncoder.AMR_NB); mRecorder.setOutputFile(path + "/" + vlip); mRecorder.setVideoSize(320, 240); mRecorder.setVideoFrameRate(15); mRecorder.setPreviewDisplay(surfaceHolder.getSurface()); panelPreview.setVisibility(LinearLayout.VISIBLE); mRecorder.prepare(); mRecorder.start(); Here is a complete log trace for the process run and crash: I/ActivityManager( 80): Start proc com.ejf.convince.jenplus for activity com.ejf.convince.jenplus/.JenPLUS: pid=17738 uid=10075 gids={1006, 3003} I/jdwp (17738): received file descriptor 10 from ADB W/System.err(17738): Can't dispatch DDM chunk 46454154: no handler defined W/System.err(17738): Can't dispatch DDM chunk 4d505251: no handler defined I/WindowManager( 80): Screen status=true, current orientation=-1, SensorEnabled=false I/WindowManager( 80): needSensorRunningLp, mCurrentAppOrientation =-1 I/WindowManager( 80): Enabling listeners W/ActivityThread(17738): Application com.ejf.convince.jenplus is waiting for the debugger on port 8100... • Android camera AVD error 100

    - by Cristian Voina
I am trying to learn how to make a simple app in android. As background information I have only programmed in C language, no OOP. Currently I am trying turn on the camera using the indications from Android Developer site but some minor changes: - no button for capturing image. - no new activity. What I am trying to do is jut preview the camera. I will post the Code that I am using, the manifest and the LogCat. • Starting to make progress Was [MediaRecorder prepare() causes segfault]

UPDATE 3: I've tried all permission combinations: CAMERA + RECORD_AUDIO+RECORD_VIDEO, CAMERA only, RECORD_AUDIO+RECORD_VIDEO This is driving me bats! :))) UPDATE 4: starting to work... but with puzzling results. Based on info in bug #5050, I spaced everything out. I have now gotten the recorder to actually save a snippet of video (a whole 2160 bytes!), and I did it by spacing the view visibility, prepare() and start() w.a.a.a.a.a.y out (like several hundred milliseconds for each step). I think what happens is that either bringing the surface VISIBLE has delayed processing or else the start() steps on the prepare() operation before it is complete. What is now happening, however, is that my simple timer tickdown counter is getting clobbered. Is it now that the preview and save operations are causing my main process thread to become unavailable? I'm recording only 10fps at 176x144. Referencing the above code, I've added a timer tickdown after setPreviewDisplay(), prepare() and start(). As I say, it now functions to some degree, but the results still have anomalies. // in activity class definition protected MediaPlayer mPlayer; protected MediaRecorder mRecorder; protected boolean inCapture = false; protected int phaseCapture = 0; protected int durCapturePhase = INF; protected SurfaceView surface; protected SurfaceHolder surfaceHolder; // in onCreate() // panelPreview is an empty LinearLayout surface = new SurfaceView(getApplicationContext()); surfaceHolder = surface.getHolder(); surfaceHolder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS); panelPreview.addView(surface); // in timer handler runnable if (mRecorder == null) mRecorder = new MediaRecorder(); mRecorder.setAudioSource(MediaRecorder.AudioSource.MIC); mRecorder.setVideoSource(MediaRecorder.VideoSource.CAMERA); mRecorder.setOutputFormat(MediaRecorder.OutputFormat.THREE_GPP); mRecorder.setAudioEncoder(MediaRecorder.AudioEncoder.AMR_NB); mRecorder.setOutputFile(path + "/" + vlip); mRecorder.setVideoSize(320, 240); mRecorder.setVideoFrameRate(15); mRecorder.setPreviewDisplay(surfaceHolder.getSurface()); panelPreview.setVisibility(LinearLayout.VISIBLE); mRecorder.prepare(); mRecorder.start(); Here is a complete log trace for the process run and crash: I/ActivityManager( 80): Start proc com.ejf.convince.jenplus for activity com.ejf.convince.jenplus/.JenPLUS: pid=17738 uid=10075 gids={1006, 3003} I/jdwp (17738): received file descriptor 10 from ADB W/System.err(17738): Can't dispatch DDM chunk 46454154: no handler defined W/System.err(17738): Can't dispatch DDM chunk 4d505251: no handler defined I/WindowManager( 80): Screen status=true, current orientation=-1, SensorEnabled=false I/WindowManager( 80): needSensorRunningLp, mCurrentAppOrientation =-1 I/WindowManager( 80): Enabling listeners W/ActivityThread(17738): Application com.ejf.convince.jenplus is waiting for the debugger on port 8100... • Android View.onDraw() always has a clean Canvas

    - by CaseyB
I am trying to draw an animation. To do so I have extended View and overridden the onDraw() method. What I would expect is that each time onDraw() is called the canvas would be in teh state that I left it in and I could choose to clear it or just draw over parts of it (This is how it worked when I used a SurfaceView) but each time the canvas comes back already cleared. Is there a way that I can not have it cleared? Or maybe save the previous state into a Bitmap so I can just draw that Bitmap and then draw over top of it?

  • Does android support playlists for video files?

    - by DanJ
I'm and android beginner, so go easy on me ;-) I'm trying to play a sequence of video files which I'm downloading from a server. The challenge is that I want to have a smooth transition from one file to another. My thought is to have two MediaPlayer instances each preparing and then playing in turn. It is not clear to me if they can both share the same SurfaceView? Or maybe, I should be using different views and swapping between them? Or, the idea is a bad idea all together? When I try to run configure the MediaPlayer instance with a view that isn't visible it seems to crash my emulator.

  • android camera preview blank screen

    - by user1104836
I want to capture a photo manually not by using existing camera apps. So i made this Activity: public class CameraActivity extends Activity { private Camera mCamera; private Preview mPreview; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_camera); // Create an instance of Camera // mCamera = Camera.open(0); // Create our Preview view and set it as the content of our activity. mPreview = new Preview(this); mPreview.safeCameraOpen(0); FrameLayout preview = (FrameLayout) findViewById(R.id.camera_preview); preview.addView(mPreview); } @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { // Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present. getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.activity_camera, menu); return true; } } This is the CameraPreview which i want to use: public class Preview extends ViewGroup implements SurfaceHolder.Callback { SurfaceView mSurfaceView; SurfaceHolder mHolder; //CAM INSTANCE ================================ private Camera mCamera; List<Size> mSupportedPreviewSizes; //============================================= /** * @param context */ public Preview(Context context) { super(context); mSurfaceView = new SurfaceView(context); addView(mSurfaceView); // Install a SurfaceHolder.Callback so we get notified when the // underlying surface is created and destroyed. mHolder = mSurfaceView.getHolder(); mHolder.addCallback(this); mHolder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS); } /** * @param context * @param attrs */ public Preview(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub } /** * @param context * @param attrs * @param defStyle */ public Preview(Context context, AttributeSet attrs, int defStyle) { super(context, attrs, defStyle); // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub } /* (non-Javadoc) * @see android.view.ViewGroup#onLayout(boolean, int, int, int, int) */ @Override protected void onLayout(boolean arg0, int arg1, int arg2, int arg3, int arg4) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @Override public void surfaceChanged(SurfaceHolder holder, int format, int width, int height) { // Now that the size is known, set up the camera parameters and begin // the preview. Why i dont see the Camera-Screen?

  • camera preview on androd - strange lines on 1.5 version of sdk

    - by Marko
Hi all, I am developing the camera module for an android application. In main application when user clicks on 'take picture' button, new view with SurfaceView control is opened and camera preview is shown. When users click on dpad center, camera takes picture and save it to the disc. Pretty simple and straightforward. Everything works fine on my device - HTC Tattoo, minsdkversion 1.6 ...but when I tested application on HTC Hero minsdkversion 1.5, when camera preview is shown, some strange lines occur. Anyone has idea what is going on? p.s. altough preview is crashed, taking of pictures works fine here is the picture: Thanx Marko

  • Alternative approach to OpenGL View on top of Camera

    - by Mr. Roland
Hi, the traditional way of doing a camera preview background with OpenGL on the front is to take two SurfaceViews(one for the camera another for OpenGL) and stack them on top of each other. The problem is that stacking SurfaceViews is discouraged: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/4850fe5c314a3dc6 So what alternatives are there? I was considering the following: Subclass GlSurfaceView, and then call set the Camera preview onto the holder of this subclass: Camera.setPreviewDisplay(mHolder); Don't use GLSurfaceView, instead create your own SurfaceView subclass where you display the Camera preview onto the holder and also draw your openGL. This would require to use OpenGL without GLSurfaceView, has anyone done this before? I'm not sure if this even is possible or makes sense, since it implies displaying the camera preview onto the holder of the surface and at the same time drawing OpenGL on the same surface. Is there any other sensible alternative to solving the problem without using two SurfaceViews? Thanks!

  • Getting camera preview data without using a preview callback

    - by velocipedestrian
I have an app that does some processing to camera preview frames before displaying them to the user. I'm currently using preview callbacks to access the image data, but the problem I have is that the onPreviewFrame() function stops getting called if you start recording video using a MediaRecorder, and I want the processing to continue when video is being recorded. I've tried doing the following: public static Bitmap convertViewToBitmap(View view) { Bitmap bitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(view.getWidth(),view.getHeight(), Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888); view.draw(new Canvas(bitmap)); return bitmap; } to convert the preview surface to a bitmap, but when I pass the preview SurfaceView to the function it returns an all-black bitmap (it works when I test it on normal views though). Is there any other way I can access the image data if preview callbacks are not available?

  • EGL initialized failed

    - by aquatear
Hello Everybody, I used a SurfaceView and EGL to render my 3D contents. When I press BACK and return my activity, the activity's 3D objects become to white. The reason is when the original activity(3D activity) resume, EGL would initialize again. So EGL would initialize and destroy everytime when different activities switch. I am not sure if the problem is EGL initialize twice... but I did initialize and destroy EGL correctly. Anybody have this problem ? Have any solutions about this ?? Thank you so much

  • Strange behaviour of Android debugger in Eclipse when using Camera for preview.

    - by Buzzy
Hi, I have an Android application that uses a SurfaceView subclass and Camera object to preview images before capture. Once I capture an image, I stop the preview and release the camera. Execution stops at any breakpoint after this. However, apart from the "Suspend" and "Terminate" icons, the rest are disabled. This is strange because the "Debug Current Instruction Pointer" is clearly at the said breakpoint and execution is already suspended. I can't perform any debugging operations and have no option but to terminate the session. Sometimes (very rarely), the session terminates by itself. I can confirm that this odd behavior takes place only after I preview the camera capture. I am fairly new to Android development. Is there some obvious mistake I am making? Any help would be highly appreciated.

  • Android:simulating 1-bit display

    - by user1681805
I'm new to Android, trying to build a simple game which use 1-bit black and white display.the screen dimension is 160 * 80,that is 12800 pixels.I created a byte array for the "VRAM",so each time it draws,it first checks the array. The thing is that I am not drawing a point or rectangle for each pixel,I'm using 2 bitmaps(ARGB_4444,I have to use alpha channel, because of shadow effect),1 for positive and 1 for negative. So I called 12800 times drawBitmap() in the surfaceView's Draw method.I know that's silly...But even for openGL,12800 quards won't be that fast right? Sorry..I cannot post imgs.the link of screenshot:http://i1014.photobucket.com/albums/af267/baininja/Screenshot_2013-10-22-01-05-36_zps91dbcdef.png should i totally give up this and draw points on a 160*80 bitmap then scale it to intented size? But that loses the visual effects.

  • Android - Force Close - Null Pointer on Canvas?

    - by user22241
Please bear with me. I have a very odd problem. Basically, my app so far, has 3 activities (a main splash screen, an 'options/menu' screen and the main app). If I follow the very specific steps oulined below, I get a 'null pointer exception' in the 2nd activity) and the app force closes...... Here are the steps: Start the app (a game based on Surfaceview), tap through to the third activity so the game is running, then hit the home key so the game is paused and put to the background, the activity/app is ended through DDMS in the SDK then restarted on the device (all OK so far), now if I hit the back key on the device twice in quick succession, it happens. All other sequence of events is fine, even to the point of pressing the back key, waiting for the previous activity to show, then hitting back again - all OK. Only when the back key is pressed twice in quick succession following all the above steps does the problem occur. I'm assuming that the canvas isn't ready as it's showing as 'null' when this happens, but I'm not sure why this is happening as surely it's happening when I'm trying to go back to activity 1, but the logcat shows the error in activity 2. if I stop the activity running my 'doDraw' method (which referenced the canvas), then all is OK - so I can safely assume it is the canvas causing the problem. Also, if I skip my first activity (which is a very basic full-screen button which just displays a splashscreen and waits for the user to tap the screen), and make my 2nd activity the launch activity, again, it is OK. this is the part of the code that I think is probably relevant: @Override public void surfaceChanged(SurfaceHolder arg0, int arg1, int arg2, int arg3) { vheight = this.getHeight(); vwidth = this.getWidth(); } @Override public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) { vheight = this.getHeight(); vwidth = this.getWidth(); this.viewWidth = vwidth; this.viewHeight = vheight; if (runthread==false){ if (preThread.getState()==Thread.State.TERMINATED){ preThread = new OptionsThread(thisholder, thiscontext, thishandler); } preThread.setRunning(true); preThread.start();} } @Override public void surfaceDestroyed(SurfaceHolder holder) { preThread.setRunning(false); //Stop the loop boolean retry = true; //Stop the thread while (retry) { try { preThread.join(); retry = false; } catch (InterruptedException e) { } } Thank you all for any help you can offer

  • Basic Android game loop having issues

    - by WillDaBeast509
I've set up a very basic game loop that should draw a circle, run 100 times, then draw another. I also have a text field that should display how many times the loop has ran. However, the screen seems to not update. It displays a different value for the tick count (different each time the app is ran) and simply stays there. After exiting the app, I get an error saying "Unfortunately, MyApp has stopped." Here is the relevant code: DrawView public class DrawView extends SurfaceView implements SurfaceHolder.Callback { Paint p = new Paint(); MainThread thread; private int y=0; public DrawView(Context c) { super(c); thread = new MainThread(this, getHolder()); thread.running = true; getHolder().addCallback(this); setFocusable(true); } public void draw(Canvas c) { if(c==null) return; //super.onDraw(c); c.drawColor(Color.WHITE); p.setColor(Color.RED); p.setTextSize(32); p.setTypeface(Typeface.SANS_SERIF); c.drawCircle(getWidth()/2-100,getHeight()/2, 50, p); c.drawText("y = " + y, 50, 50, p); if(y>=100) { Log.i("DRAW", "drawing circle"); c.drawCircle(getWidth()/2+100,getHeight()/2, 50, p); } else y++; Log.i("INFO", "y = " + y); } @Override public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) { return true; } public void onDraw(Canvas c){} public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder p1) { thread.start(); } public void surfaceChanged(SurfaceHolder p1, int p2, int p3, int p4) { // TODO: Implement this method } public void surfaceDestroyed(SurfaceHolder p1) { thread.running = false; boolean retry = true; while (retry) { try { thread.join(); retry = false; } catch (InterruptedException e) { Log.i("EX", "cathing exception"); } } } } MainThread public class MainThread extends Thread { private DrawView page; private SurfaceHolder holder; public boolean running; public MainThread(DrawView p, SurfaceHolder h) { super(); page = p; holder = h; } @Override public void run() { while(running) { Canvas c = holder.lockCanvas(); page.draw(c); holder.unlockCanvasAndPost(c); } } } Here is an example log outupt: http://pastebin.com/tM9dUPuk It counts the number of ticks correctly and should draw the second circle, but the screen looks like its not updating. After closing the app, the log continues to run and keep outputting "y = 100 drawing circle" until it crashes and shows the error report. What is going on and how can I fix these two problems?

  • OpenGL slower than Canvas

    - by VanDir
Up to 3 days ago I used a Canvas in a SurfaceView to do all the graphics operations but now I switched to OpenGL because my game went from 60FPS to 30/45 with the increase of the sprites in some levels. However, I find myself disappointed because OpenGL now reaches around 40/50 FPS at all levels. Surely (I hope) I'm doing something wrong. How can I increase the performance at stable 60FPS? My game is pretty simple and I can not believe that it is impossible to reach them. I use 2D sprite texture applied to a square for all the objects. I use a transparent GLSurfaceView, the real background is applied in a ImageView behind the GLSurfaceView. Some code public MyGLSurfaceView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context); setZOrderOnTop(true); setEGLConfigChooser(8, 8, 8, 8, 0, 0); getHolder().setFormat(PixelFormat.RGBA_8888); mRenderer = new ClearRenderer(getContext()); setRenderer(mRenderer); setLongClickable(true); setFocusable(true); } public void onSurfaceCreated(final GL10 gl, EGLConfig config) { gl.glEnable(GL10.GL_TEXTURE_2D); gl.glShadeModel(GL10.GL_SMOOTH); gl.glDisable(GL10.GL_DEPTH_TEST); gl.glDepthMask(false); gl.glEnable(GL10.GL_ALPHA_TEST); gl.glAlphaFunc(GL10.GL_GREATER, 0); gl.glEnable(GL10.GL_BLEND); gl.glBlendFunc(GL10.GL_ONE, GL10.GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA); gl.glHint(GL10.GL_PERSPECTIVE_CORRECTION_HINT, GL10.GL_NICEST); } public void onSurfaceChanged(GL10 gl, int width, int height) { gl.glViewport(0, 0, width, height); gl.glMatrixMode(GL10.GL_PROJECTION); gl.glLoadIdentity(); gl.glOrthof(0, width, height, 0, -1f, 1f); gl.glMatrixMode(GL10.GL_MODELVIEW); gl.glLoadIdentity(); } public void onDrawFrame(GL10 gl) { gl.glClear(GL10.GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); gl.glMatrixMode(GL10.GL_MODELVIEW); gl.glLoadIdentity(); gl.glEnableClientState(GL10.GL_VERTEX_ARRAY); gl.glEnableClientState(GL10.GL_TEXTURE_COORD_ARRAY); // Draw all the graphic object. for (byte i = 0; i < mGame.numberOfObjects(); i++){ mGame.getObject(i).draw(gl); } // Disable the client state before leaving gl.glDisableClientState(GL10.GL_VERTEX_ARRAY); gl.glDisableClientState(GL10.GL_TEXTURE_COORD_ARRAY); } mGame.getObject(i).draw(gl) is for all the objects like this: /* HERE there is always a translatef and scalef transformation and sometimes rotatef */ gl.glBindTexture(GL10.GL_TEXTURE_2D, mTexPointer[0]); // Point to our vertex buffer gl.glVertexPointer(3, GL10.GL_FLOAT, 0, mVertexBuffer); gl.glTexCoordPointer(2, GL10.GL_FLOAT, 0, mTextureBuffer); // Draw the vertices as triangle strip gl.glDrawArrays(GL10.GL_TRIANGLE_STRIP, 0, mVertices.length / 3); EDIT: After some test it seems to be due to the transparent GLSurfaceView. If I delete this line of code: setEGLConfigChooser(8, 8, 8, 8, 0, 0); the background becomes all black but I reach 60 fps. What can I do?

  • Android Camera without Preview

    - by eyurdakul
I am writing an android 1.5 application which starts just after boot-up. This is a service and should take a picture without preview. This app will log the light density in some areas whatever. I was able to take a picture but the picture was black. After googling like crazy, i came across a bug thread about it. If you don't generate a preview, the image will be black since android camera needs preview to setup exposure and focus. I've created a surfaceview and listener but the onSurfaceCreated event never gets fired. I guess the reason is, the surface is not being created visually. I've also seen some examples of calling the camera statically with MediaStore.CAPTURE_OR_SOMETHING which takes a picture and saves in the desired folder with two lines of code but it doesn't take a picture too. Do i need to use ipc and bindservice to call this function or do you have any suggestion to achieve my goal (taking a picture without preview) and if so, would you give me a small piece of code as example?

  • Android lifecycle of thread-based game

    - by ehehhh
I ran into a bit of trouble while trying to get my game to work correctly after being put to the background by the user or a phone call for example. My app has a SurfaceView class called GameView, which has the onDraw() method to do all the necessary drawing for my game and two threads - one for calling the onDraw() and one for doing the necessary calculations for the game's logic. I succesfully implemented onPause() and onResume(). (I paused both threads when back button was pressed and resumed them after user cancelled in the AlertDialog.) Now I would like to have the game paused the same way when onStop() gets called. I put both threads on pause and saved my characters location in the savedInstanceState, but when I start my app again, no method gets called (I checked with Logcat). I believe onRestart() should be called first, then onStart() and then onResume(), but none of that happens. What am I doing wrong? (Didn't include any code, because it seems to be a problem of me not understanding the lifecycle, not a problem in code. If it seems necessary, I'll post the parts you request.)

  • Android onFling not responding

    - by Kevin Moore
I am new to android first of all so think of any newbie mistakes first I am trying to add a fling function in my code. public class MainGamePanel extends SurfaceView implements SurfaceHolder.Callback, OnGestureListener { private MainThread thread; private Droid droid; private Droid droid2; private static final String TAG = gameView.class.getSimpleName(); private GestureDetector gestureScanner; public MainGamePanel(Context context){ super(context); getHolder().addCallback(this); droid = new Droid(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.drawable.playerbox2), 270, 300); droid2 = new Droid(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.drawable.playerbox2), 50, 300); thread = new MainThread(getHolder(), this); setFocusable(true); gestureScanner = new GestureDetector(this); } public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event){ return gestureScanner.onTouchEvent(event); } @Override protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas){ canvas.drawColor(Color.BLACK); droid.draw(canvas); droid2.draw(canvas); } @Override public boolean onFling(MotionEvent e1, MotionEvent e2, float velocityX, float velocityY) { droid.setX(50); droid.setY(50); Log.d(TAG, "Coords: x=" + e1.getX() + ",y=" + e2.getY()); return true; } @Override public boolean onDown(MotionEvent e) { droid2.setX((int)e.getX()); droid2.setY((int)e.getY()); Log.d(TAG, "Coords: x=" + e.getX() + ",y=" + e.getY()); return false; } I got the gestureListener to work with: onDown, onLongPress, and onShowPress. But i can't get any response with onFling, onSingleTapUp, and onScroll. What mistake am I making? does it have to do with views? I don't know what code would be useful to see.... so any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank You!

  • android spinning image

    - by user270811
hi, i am trying to create two spinning wheels, as in pulleys, so everytime the attached rope moves, the two pulleys will rotate. i have tried two approaches: 1) use Matrix.postRotate within the onDraw() method of the View class, which calls the following: private void drawSpinningWheel(Canvas canvas) { try { canvas.save(); Bitmap bitmapOrg = null; int iDrawable = R.drawable.spinning_button; bitmapOrg = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), iDrawable); if(bitmapOrg != null) { int width = bitmapOrg.getWidth(); int height = bitmapOrg.getHeight(); int newWidth = 24; int newHeight = 24; // calculate the scale - in this case = 0.4f float scaleWidth = ((float) newWidth) / width; float scaleHeight = ((float) newHeight) / height; // createa matrix for the manipulation Matrix matrix = new Matrix(); // resize the bit map matrix.postScale(scaleWidth, scaleHeight); matrix.postRotate((float) mDegrees++); Bitmap resizedBitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(bitmapOrg, 0, 0, width, height, matrix, true); canvas.drawBitmap(resizedBitmap, matrix, null); } canvas.restore(); } catch(Exception e) { Log.e(TAG + "drawSpinningWheel", e.getMessage()); } } but it seems like the image not only spins but rotates around another axis 2) use SurfaceView and a separate thread, in the run() call this: private void doDraw(Canvas canvas) { // Draw the background image. Operations on the Canvas accumulate // so this is like clearing the screen. canvas.drawBitmap(mBackgroundImage, 0, 0, null); int yTop = mCanvasHeight - ((int) mY + mSpinningWheelImageHeight / 2); int xLeft = (int) mX - mSpinningWheelImageWidth / 2; ... // Draw the ship with its current rotation canvas.save(); canvas.rotate((float) mHeading++, (float) mX, mCanvasHeight - (float) mY); mSpinningWheelImage.setBounds(xLeft, yTop, xLeft + mSpinningWheelImageWidth, yTop + mSpinningWheelImageHeight); mSpinningWheelImage.draw(canvas); canvas.restore(); } i get the spinning to work but i can't add another spinning wheel. i even tried to create another thread for the second spinning wheel, only one shows up. can someone point me in the right direction? thanks.

  • Android Canvas.drawString display problem

Hello everyone! I encounter this problem when displaying text on SurfaceView, some chars can climb up on others, code is here: private static void fakeDraw(Canvas c) { Paint mPaint = new Paint(); int color = 0xff000000; mPaint.setColor(color); mPaint.setStrokeWidth(2); mPaint.setStyle(Style.FILL); mPaint.setAntiAlias(true); FontMetricsInt fm = mPaint.getFontMetricsInt(); int fh = Math.abs(fm.top); int left = 0; int top = 100; Rect smallClip = new Rect(left, top-fh, left + 200, top + 30); Rect bigClip = new Rect(0, 0, getW(), getH()); c.drawRect(bigClip, mPaint); String text1 = "Evi"; String text2 = ">>"; String text3 = "Tom"; color = 0xff303030; mPaint.setColor(color); c.drawRect(smallClip, mPaint); color = 0xffffffff; mPaint.setColor(color); c.drawText(text1, left, top, mPaint); Rect bounds = new Rect(); mPaint.getTextBounds(text1, 0, text1.length(), bounds); left += bounds.width(); c.drawText(text2, left, top, mPaint); left -= bounds.width(); top += 12; c.drawText(text3, left, top, mPaint); mPaint.getTextBounds(text3, 0, text3.length(), bounds); left += bounds.width(); c.drawText(text2, left, top, mPaint); } In the case of a second text Tom all displayed correctly, but the first text Evi not. The problem is that the chars draws in Evi draw space(last char "i")!! It is possible to see if you zoom the picture, what am I doing wrong and how to fix this? screen shot can be found here:

  • Performance issues in android game

I am making an android game, but however, the game is functioning like it should, but i am experiencing some performance issues. I think it has something to do with the sound. Cause each time i touch the screen, it makes a sound. I am using the standard MediaPlayer. The method is onTouchEvent() and onPlaySound1().
