  • NotFoundException in layout editor for Android?

    - by borg17of20
    I'm trying to extend a RelativeLayout object and include an embedded SurfaceView object that uses a png file in my /res/drawable folder as its background but I keep getting an error in the XML Layout editor. See the following code: public class StopMotionRelativeLayout extends RelativeLayout { private Context myContext; private SurfaceView surfaceView1; private BitmapFactory.Options myBitmapOptions; private final android.view.ViewGroup.LayoutParams params = new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, android.view.ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT); public StopMotionRelativeLayout(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); myContext = context; this.setBackgroundColor(Color.GREEN); //init images surfaceView1 = new SurfaceView(myContext,attrs); surfaceView1.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE); this.addView(surfaceView1, params); } @Override protected void onMeasure(int widthMeasureSpec, int heightMeasureSpec) { super.onMeasure(widthMeasureSpec, heightMeasureSpec); myBitmapOptions = new Options(); myBitmapOptions.outWidth = widthMeasureSpec; myBitmapOptions.outHeight = heightMeasureSpec; surfaceView1.setBackgroundDrawable(new BitmapDrawable(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(this.myContext.getResources(), R.drawable.golf1, myBitmapOptions))); } } I get the following error: NotFoundException: Could not find drawable resource matching value 0x7F020002 (resolved name: golf1) in current configuration. I have seen this type of error may times now and it always happens when I try to load something from a resource file via code and not XML. Curiously, this error does not stop me from compiling the app, and the app runs without error in the emulator. I'd like to get back the use of my layout editor though... Please help. UPDATE: Here is the layout XML <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <com.games.test.StopMotionRelativeLayout android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> </com.games.test.StopMotionRelativeLayout>

  • Why is my Android app camera preview running out of memory on my AVD?

    - by Bryan
    I have yet to try this on an actual device, but expect similar results. Anyway, long story short, whenever I run my app on the emulator, it crashes due to an out of memory exception. My code really is essentially the same as the camera preview API demo from google, which runs perfectly fine. The only file in the app (that I created/use) is as below- package berbst.musicReader; import java.io.IOException; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.Context; import android.hardware.Camera; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.SurfaceHolder; import android.view.SurfaceView; /********************************* * Music Reader v.0001 * Still VERY under construction. * @author Bryan * *********************************/ public class MusicReader extends Activity { private MainScreen main; @Override //Begin activity public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); main = new MainScreen(this); setContentView(main); } class MainScreen extends SurfaceView implements SurfaceHolder.Callback { SurfaceHolder sHolder; Camera cam; MainScreen(Context context) { super(context); //Set up SurfaceHolder sHolder = getHolder(); sHolder.addCallback(this); sHolder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS); } public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) { // Open the camera and start viewing cam = Camera.open(); try { cam.setPreviewDisplay(holder); } catch (IOException exception) { cam.release(); cam = null; } } public void surfaceDestroyed(SurfaceHolder holder) { // Kill all our crap with the surface cam.stopPreview(); cam.release(); cam = null; } public void surfaceChanged(SurfaceHolder holder, int format, int w, int h) { // Modify parameters to match size. Camera.Parameters params = cam.getParameters(); params.setPreviewSize(w, h); cam.setParameters(params); cam.startPreview(); } } }

  • Linear Layout over relative layout

    - by Sai
    I have a relative layout for Camera preview with some overlay features. The layout file looks like the one in shown below: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <android.view.SurfaceView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/preview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > </android.view.SurfaceView> </RelativeLayout> I integrated some menu options from the android bluetooth chat example. The menu options work fine but if I click on one of the options, the app just froze. It opens a debug perspective but I am not able to understand them. The app does not seem to crash but it just froze. The layout that I am using for the menu options is: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" > <TextView android:id="@+id/title_paired_devices" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/title_paired_devices" android:visibility="gone" android:textColor="#fff" android:paddingLeft="5dp" /> <ListView android:id="@+id/paired_devices" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:stackFromBottom="true" android:layout_weight="1" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/title_new_devices" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/title_other_devices" android:visibility="gone" android:textColor="#fff" android:paddingLeft="5dp" /> <ListView android:id="@+id/new_devices" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:stackFromBottom="true" android:layout_weight="2" /> Can I attribute this to the fact that I am trying to overlay Linear layout over relative layout? Any suggestions to display the list of bluetooth devices over camera preview would be greatly appreciated

  • How to use mipmap in OpenGL-ES

    - by VanDir
    I have recently entered in the OpenGL world. I am very pleased with the performance that I got with opengl compared to those obtained with a SurfaceView and its canvas. At the same time because of the limitation of the images to be in power of two I noticed that the quality of the sprite of my game is a little decreased. I read that we can use mipmap in Android but I have not found a real tutotial. Are they compatible with Android 2.2+ ? Which program creates mipmaps? How do you actually use in code?

  • How are buttons made to be clicked?

    - by Johnny
    I just want to ask a general question. According to that answer, Ill continue thinking. You know in games there are lots of clickable items. Play button, exit, comboboxes maybe etc. My question is are those buttons drawn in same canvas with background and all other things, or for every different thing there is another canvas object? My question is about for general. Im not asking about a specific game, im asking how they are made generally. Im planning to start a game on Android, and Im confused actually how to design buttons, and other object. Probably Im going to use View/SurfaceView for now. I don't have much experience with OpenGL yet. Thanks in advance.

  • Trying to implement fling events on an object

    I have a game object, well a bitmap, which I'd like to "fling". • Android frame by frame PNG animation

    - by Trick
    I am new at Android game development. I have done some apps before, but none of them are games :) So, I wanted to do a frame-by-frame animation of PNGs. I tried with AnimationDrawable, but OutOfMemory error comes quickly (I have a lot of PNGs). So I came upon SurfaceView. But I am stuck, because I really don't find any useful tutoirals/examples. What is the best way to make an animation like this? Here there already is a great answer to almost the same question, but all the links there don't work anymore. I would really like to here suggestions how to make an animation frame-by-frame with PNGs in Android and if you have any tutorials or examples, I will be really happy :)

  • Box2d world width and height ratio with screen width and height

    - by Sujith
    I have view, for example GameView which extends SurfaceView . I have integrated Box2D physics in GameView. I have two widths , GameView width, height and Box2D physics world width ,height. I need to get the position of box2d world with the GameView co-ordinates. For example, Total width of screen = 240 Total height of screen = 320 Screen points needed to be mapped onto box2d co-ordinates (x,y) = 127, 139 For this i need to get the max width and height of the Box2d physics world. Is there is any way to get the max width and height of Box2d world. or Can i limit the width and height of box2d world within the screen resolution.

  • How to handle loading and keeping many bitmaps in an Android 2D game

    - by Lumis
    In an Android 2D game which is using SurfaceView where its onDraw is driven by a loop from a Thread, I use many bitmap sprites (sprite sheets) and two background size bitmaps, which are all loaded into memory at the start. It all works fine, however, when the activity is onPause or after reloading it few times, Android shows a tendency to wipe out the big bitmaps only, probably to free memory. Sometimes this happens even in the middle of loading this very activity. In order to counter this, I made a check in the onDraw method to test if the big bitmaps are still there and reload them if they are forcefully recycled by Android, before drawing them on Canvas. This solution may not be the most stable, and since I know that there are much more accomplished android game programmers here than myself, I hope you can reveal some tricks or secrets or at least provide some good hints, how to overcome this.

  • Setting density for Android game

    - by Asghar
    I am developing an Android game, in which a ball (bitmap) translates( is in motion). So I have provided motion equations for the ball. I have checked my app on Samsung galaxy S2 whose actual density is roundly 252 dpi, and It works fine on that. So my question is that Does these motions of bitmaps in surfaceView, depends on actual density of phone( i.e 252 dpi for S2) or generalized density(i.e 240 dpi). I am confused whether if I run this app on 235 dpi smartphone, So will it have the same performance of motion as it is on Galaxy S2( with 252 dpi) or it would be little slow ? Any help will be appreciated.

  • How to create a Raining Effect(Particles) on Android?

    - by user19495
    I am developing a 2d android strategy game, it runs on SurfaceView, so I can't(or can I?) use LibGdx's particle system. And I would like to make a raining effect, I am aiming for something like this( http://ridingwiththeriver.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/rain-fall-animation.gif ), I don't need the splash effect in the end (although that would be superb, but probably would take up a lot of system resources). How could I achieve that raining effect? Any ideas? Thank You a lot in advance!

  • Displaying bitmaps in relative positions

    - by JonF
    I'd like to put a couple images on a surfaceview. I understand that the screen sizes of android devices can vary, so I don't think I can just use an x y position or I might end up placing it off different screens. Say I want to put two boxes in the center of the screen, a blue one and a red one. The blue one is to the left of the red one. How can I accomplish that while accounting for different screen sizes?

  • My Android game runs out of memory when it is closed and opened and couple times.

    - by sirconnorstack
    I have an Android game that has an activity for the menu, and then another activity for the game that creates a SurfaceView and Thread to deal with canvas drawing and game logic. When you exit the game and start it up again too much or if you open and close the keyboard (thus restarting the activity), the game runs out of memory, usually when loading a bitmap: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget How can I keep all my images in memory without loading them again when the game changes state, or how can I release them from memory and let them reload when the game is restarted?

    Hoi, I have a simple app with a surfaceview nothing special one would say. However when installing on my phone I get two warnings. 1 - Phone calls - read phone state and identity 2 - Storage - modify/delete SD card content. My really is nothing more than a simple puzzle and I dont understand why I get these warnings. Any ideas how to avoid this? Help is very much appreciated, Kind regards Jasper de Keijzer.

  • How do I use MediaRecorder to record video without causing a segmentation fault?

    - by rabidsnail
    I'm trying to use android.media.MediaRecorder to record video, and no matter what I do the android runtime segmentation faults when I call prepare(). • How to associate newly created SurfaceHolder to MediaPlayer

    - by fayerth
    In my code, I want to be able to temporarily hide (and subsequently show) a video. I am using a SurfaceView + MediaPlayer combination instead of the VideoView due to requirements. However, I am facing difficulties in getting video playback to occur as expected after I show the SurfaceView. My code excerpts includes the following: public void show() { if (mSurface != null) mSurface.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE); } public void hide() { if (mSurface != null) { if (isInPlaybackState()) pause(); mSurface.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE); } } @Override public void surfaceCreated(final SurfaceHolder holder) { mHolder = holder; openVideo(); } @Override public void surfaceDestroyed(final SurfaceHolder holder) { // After this, the surface can't be used again mHolder = null; } private void openVideo() { if (mAssetPath == null || !mAssetPath.isEmpty() || mHolder == null) { // Not ready yet; try again later return; } // Pause music playback service Intent i = new Intent("com.android.music.musicservicecommand"); i.putExtra("command", "pause"); getActivity().sendBroadcast(i); if (mPlayer == null) { initializePlayer(); } else { mPlayer.setDisplay(mHolder); } } Based on the above, when I call hide(), surfaceDestroyed(SurfaceHolder) gets triggered. When I later call show(), surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder) gets triggered, which will call openVideo() and associate the player with the newly provided SurfaceHolder. The above works as expected, and I believe this should be the correct process; however, when I call mPlayer.start(), I would hear the video's audio playing without any video and see the following error messages (which eventually causes the media playback to stop and complete, as noted by the disconnect logs): 10-23 11:29:42.775: E/MediaPlayer(4204): Error (1,-2147483648) 10-23 11:29:42.795: E/MediaPlayer(4204): Error (-38,0) 10-23 11:29:42.805: E/MediaPlayer(4204): Error (1,-2147483648) 10-23 11:29:42.810: V/MediaPlayer(4204): message received msg=100, ext1=1, ext2=-2147483648 10-23 11:29:42.810: E/MediaPlayer(4204): error (1, -2147483648) 10-23 11:29:42.810: V/MediaPlayer(4204): callback application 10-23 11:29:42.810: V/MediaPlayer(4204): back from callback 10-23 11:29:42.825: E/MediaPlayer(4204): Error (1,-2147483648) 10-23 11:29:42.850: V/MediaPlayer-JNI(4204): getCurrentPosition: 671668 (msec) 10-23 11:29:42.850: V/MediaPlayer-JNI(4204): getCurrentPosition: 671668 (msec) 10-23 11:29:42.850: V/MediaPlayer(4204): message received msg=100, ext1=1, ext2=-2147483648 10-23 11:29:42.850: E/MediaPlayer(4204): error (1, -2147483648) 10-23 11:29:42.850: V/MediaPlayer(4204): callback application 10-23 11:29:42.850: V/MediaPlayer(4204): back from callback 10-23 11:29:42.875: V/MediaPlayer-JNI(4204): stop 10-23 11:29:42.875: V/MediaPlayer(4204): stop 10-23 11:29:42.875: E/MediaPlayer(4204): stop called in state 0 10-23 11:29:42.875: V/MediaPlayer(4204): message received msg=100, ext1=-38, ext2=0 10-23 11:29:42.875: E/MediaPlayer(4204): error (-38, 0) 10-23 11:29:42.875: V/MediaPlayer(4204): callback application 10-23 11:29:42.875: V/MediaPlayer(4204): back from callback 10-23 11:29:42.875: V/MediaPlayer-JNI(4204): reset 10-23 11:29:42.875: V/MediaPlayer(4204): reset 10-23 11:29:42.900: V/MediaPlayer-JNI(4204): release 10-23 11:29:42.900: V/MediaPlayer(4204): setListener 10-23 11:29:42.900: V/MediaPlayer(4204): disconnect 10-23 11:29:42.910: V/MediaPlayer(4204): destructor 10-23 11:29:42.910: V/MediaPlayer(4204): disconnect Has anyone encountered this issue before and found a workaround?   • Issue getting camera emulation to work with Tom G's HttpCamera

    - by user591524
    I am trying to use the android emulator to preview video from webcam. I have used the tom gibara sample code, minus the webbroadcaster (i am instead using VLC streaming via http). So, I have modified the SDK's "CameraPreview" app to use the HttpCamera, but the stream never appears. Debugging through doesn't give me any clues either. I wonder if anything obvious is clear to others? The preview app launches and remains black. Notes: 1) I have updated the original CameraPreview class as described here: http://www.inter-fuser.com/2009/09/live-camera-preview-in-android-emulator.html, but referencing httpCamera instead of socketcamera. 2) I updated Tom's original example to reference "Camera" type instead of deprecated "CameraDevice" type. 3) Below is my CameraPreview.java. 4) THANK YOU package com.example.android.apis.graphics; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.Context; import android.hardware.Camera; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.SurfaceHolder; import android.view.SurfaceView; import android.view.Window; import java.io.IOException; import android.graphics.Canvas; // ---------------------------------------------------------------------- public class CameraPreview extends Activity { private Preview mPreview; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); // Hide the window title. requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); // Create our Preview view and set it as the content of our activity. mPreview = new Preview(this); setContentView(mPreview); } } // ---------------------------------------------------------------------- class Preview extends SurfaceView implements SurfaceHolder.Callback { SurfaceHolder mHolder; //Camera mCamera; HttpCamera mCamera;//changed Preview(Context context) { super(context); // Install a SurfaceHolder.Callback so we get notified when the // underlying surface is created and destroyed. mHolder = getHolder(); mHolder.addCallback(this); //mHolder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS); mHolder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_NORMAL);//changed } public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) { // The Surface has been created, acquire the camera and tell it where // to draw. //mCamera = Camera.open(); this.StartCameraPreview(holder); } public void surfaceDestroyed(SurfaceHolder holder) { // Surface will be destroyed when we return, so stop the preview. // Because the CameraDevice object is not a shared resource, it's very // important to release it when the activity is paused. //mCamera.stopPreview();//changed mCamera = null; } public void surfaceChanged(SurfaceHolder holder, int format, int w, int h) { // Now that the size is known, set up the camera parameters and begin // the preview. //Camera.Parameters parameters = mCamera.getParameters(); //parameters.setPreviewSize(w, h); //mCamera.setParameters(parameters); //mCamera.startPreview(); this.StartCameraPreview(holder); } private void StartCameraPreview(SurfaceHolder sh) { mCamera = new HttpCamera("10.213.74.247:443", 640, 480, true);//changed try { //mCamera.setPreviewDisplay(holder); Canvas c = sh.lockCanvas(null); mCamera.capture(c); sh.unlockCanvasAndPost(c); } catch (Exception exception) { //mCamera.release(); mCamera = null; // TODO: add more exception handling logic here } } }

  • Android: how do I switch between game scenes in a game? Any tutorials?

    - by Flavio
    I am trying to create a simple game using the Android SDK without using AndEngine (or any other game engine). I have plenty of experience designing games from the past, but I'm having lots of trouble trying to use the Android SDK to make my game. By far my biggest hurdle right now is switching between views. That is, for example, going from the menu to the first level, etc. I am using a traditional model I learned (I think it's called a scene stack or something?) in which you push the current scene onto a stack and the game's main loop runs the top item of the stack. This model seems non-trivial to implement in the Android SDK, mostly because Android seems to be picky about which thread instantiates which view. My issue is that I want the first level to show up when you press a button on the main menu, but when I instantiate the first level (the level class extends SurfaceView and implements SurfaceHolder.Callback) I get a runtime error complaining that the thread that runs the main menu can't instantiate this class. Something about calling Looper.prepare(). I figured at this point I was probably doing things wrong. I'm not sure how to specifically phrase my issue into a question, so maybe I should leave it as either 1) Does anybody know a good way (or the 'proper' way) to switch between scenes in an Android game? or 2) Are there any tutorials out there which show how to create a game that doesn't take place entirely in one scene? (I have googled for a while to no avail... maybe someone else knows of one?) Thanks!

  • Updating sprite location with controls

    So ive got a character in a 2D game using surfaceView that I want to be able to move using a button(eventually a joystick), but my game crashes as soon as I try to move my sprite. This is my onTouch-method for my steering button: public void handleActionDown(int eventX, int eventY) { if (eventX >= (x - bitmap.getWidth() / 2) && (eventX <= (x + bitmap.getWidth()/2))) { if (eventY >= (y - bitmap.getHeight() / 2) && (y <= (y + bitmap.getHeight() / 2))) { setTouched(true); } else { setTouched(false); } } else { setTouched(false); } and if I try to put this in my update-method: public void update() { x += (speed.getXv() * speed.getxDirection()); y += (speed.getYv() * speed.getyDirection()); } the sprite moves on its own just fine, but as soon as I add: public void update() { if(steering.isTouched()){ x += (speed.getXv() * speed.getxDirection()); y += (speed.getYv() * speed.getyDirection()); } the game crashes. Does any1 know why this is or how to fix it? I cannot figure it out. Im using MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN to check if the user if pressing the screen. }
