  • Create new table with Wordpress API

    - by Fire G
    I'm trying to create a new plugin to track popular posts based on views and I have everything done and ready to go, but I can't seem to create a new table using the Wordpress API (I can do it with standard PHP or with phpMyAdmin, but I want this plugin to be self-sufficient). I've tried several ways ($wpdb-query, $wpdb-get_results, dbDelta) but none of them will create the new table. function create_table(){ global $wpdb; $tablename = $wpdb->prefix.'popular_by_views'; $ppbv_table = $wpdb->get_results("SHOW TABLES LIKE '".$tablename."'" , ARRAY_N); if(is_null($ppbv_table)){ $create_table_sql = "CREATE TABLE '".$tablename."' ( 'id' BIGINT(50) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, 'url' VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL, 'views' BIGINT(50) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY ('id'), UNIQUE ('id') );"; $wpdb->show_errors(); $wpdb->flush(); if(is_null($wpdb->get_results("SHOW TABLES LIKE '".$tablename."'" , ARRAY_N))) echo 'crap, the SQL failed.'; } else echo 'table already exists, nothing left to do.';}

  • Linq to Datarow, Select multiple columns as distinct?

    - by Beta033
    basically i'm trying to reproduce the following mssql query as LINQ SELECT DISTINCT [TABLENAME], [COLUMNNAME] FROM [DATATABLE] the closest i've got is Dim query = (From row As DataRow In ds.Tables("DATATABLE").Rows _ Select row("COLUMNNAME") ,row("TABLENAME").Distinct when i do the above i get the error Range variable name can be inferred only from a simple or qualified name with no arguments. i was sort of expecting it to return a collection that i could then iterate through and perform actions for each entry. maybe a datarow collection? As a complete LINQ newb, i'm not sure what i'm missing. i've tried variations on Select new with { row("COLUMNNAME") ,row("TABLENAME")} and get: Anonymous type member name can be inferred only from a simple or qualified name with no arguments. Also, does anyone know of any good books/resources to get fluent?

  • From AutoComplete textbox to database search and display?

    - by svebee
    Hello everyone, I have a small problem so I would be grateful if anyone could help me in any way. Thank you ;) I have this little "application", and I want when someone type in a AutoComplete textbox for example "New" it automatically displays "New York" as a option and that (AutoComplete function) works fine. But I want when user type in full location (or AutoComplete do it for him) - that text (location) input is forwarded to a database search which then searches through database and "collects" all rows with user-typed location. For example if user typed in "New York", database search would find all rows with "New York" in it. When it finds one/more row(s) it would display them below. In images... I have this when user is typing... http://www.imagesforme.com/show.php/1093305_SNAG0000.jpg I have this when user choose a AutoComplete location (h)ttp://www.imagesforme.com/show.php/1093306_SNAG0001.jpg (remove () on the beggining) But I wanna this when user choose a AutoComplete location (h)ttp://www.imagesforme.com/show.php/1093307_CopyofSNAG0001.jpg (remove () on the beggining) Complete Code package com.svebee.prijevoz; import android.app.Activity; import android.database.Cursor; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase; import android.os.Bundle; import android.util.Log; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.AutoCompleteTextView; import android.widget.TextView; public class ZelimDoci extends Activity { TextView lista; static final String[] STANICE = new String[] { "New York", "Chicago", "Dallas", "Los Angeles" }; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.zelimdoci); AutoCompleteTextView textView = (AutoCompleteTextView) findViewById(R.id.autocomplete_country); ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, STANICE); textView.setAdapter(adapter); lista = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.lista); SQLiteDatabase myDB= null; String TableName = "Database"; String Data=""; /* Create a Database. */ try { myDB = this.openOrCreateDatabase("Database", MODE_PRIVATE, null); /* Create a Table in the Database. */ myDB.execSQL("CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + TableName + " (Field1 INT(3) UNIQUE, Field2 INT(3) UNIQUE, Field3 VARCHAR UNIQUE, Field4 VARCHAR UNIQUE);"); Cursor a = myDB.rawQuery("SELECT * FROM Database where Field1 == 1", null); a.moveToFirst(); if (a == null) { /* Insert data to a Table*/ myDB.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + TableName + " (Field1, Field2, Field3, Field4)" + " VALUES (1, 119, 'New York', 'Dallas');"); myDB.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + TableName + " (Field1, Field2, Field3, Field4)" + " VALUES (9, 587, 'California', 'New York');"); } myDB.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + TableName + " (Field1, Field2, Field3, Field4)" + " VALUES (87, 57, 'Canada', 'London');"); } /*retrieve data from database */ Cursor c = myDB.rawQuery("SELECT * FROM " + TableName , null); int Column1 = c.getColumnIndex("Field1"); int Column2 = c.getColumnIndex("Field2"); int Column3 = c.getColumnIndex("Field3"); int Column4 = c.getColumnIndex("Field4"); // Check if our result was valid. c.moveToFirst(); if (c != null) { // Loop through all Results do { String LocationA = c.getString(Column3); String LocationB = c.getString(Column4); int Id = c.getInt(Column1); int Linija = c.getInt(Column2); Data =Data +Id+" | "+Linija+" | "+LocationA+"-"+LocationB+"\n"; }while(c.moveToNext()); } lista.setText(String.valueOf(Data)); } catch(Exception e) { Log.e("Error", "Error", e); } finally { if (myDB != null) myDB.close(); } } } .xml file <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="20sp" android:gravity="center_horizontal" android:padding="10sp" android:text="Test AutoComplete"/> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:padding="5dp"> <TextView android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="AutoComplete" /> <AutoCompleteTextView android:id="@+id/autocomplete_country" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginLeft="5dp"/> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout>

  • Dynamic type for List<T>?

    - by Brett
    Hi All, I've got a method that returns a List for a DataSet table public static List<string> GetListFromDataTable(DataSet dataSet, string tableName, string rowName) { int count = dataSet.Tables[tableName].Rows.Count; List<string> values = new List<string>(); // Loop through the table and row and add them into the array for (int i = 0; i < count; i++) { values.Add(dataSet.Tables[tableName].Rows[i][rowName].ToString()); } return values; } Is there a way I can dynamically set the datatype for the list and have this one method cater for all datatypes so I can specify upon calling this method that it should be a List<int or List<string> or List<AnythingILike>? Also, what would the return type be when declaring the method? Thanks in advance, Brett

  • Does a C# using statement perform try/finally?

    - by Lirik
    Suppose that I have the following code: private void UpdateDB(QuoteDataSet dataSet, Strint tableName) { using(SQLiteConnection conn = new SQLiteConnection(_connectionString)) { conn.Open(); using (SQLiteTransaction transaction = conn.BeginTransaction()) { using (SQLiteCommand cmd = new SQLiteCommand("SELECT * FROM " + tableName, conn)) { using (SQLiteDataAdapter sqliteAdapter = new SQLiteDataAdapter()) { sqliteAdapter.Update(dataSet, tableName); } } transaction.Commit(); } } } The C# documentation states that with a using statement the object within the scope will be disposed and I've seen several places where it's suggested that we don't need to use try/finally clause. I usually surround my connections with a try/finally, and I always close the connection in the finally clause. Given the above code, is it reasonable to assume that the connection will be closed if there is an exception?

  • PDO update query with conditional?

    - by dmontain
    I have a PDO mysql that updates 3 fields. $update = $mypdo->prepare("UPDATE tablename SET field1=:field1, field2=:field2, field3=:field3 WHERE key=:key"); But I want field3 to be updated only when $update3 = true; (meaning that the update of field3 is controlled by a conditional statement) Is this possible to accomplish with a single query? I could do it with 2 queries where I update field1 and field2 then check the boolean and update field3 if needed in a separate query. //run this query to update only fields 1 and 2 $update_part1 = $mypdo->prepare("UPDATE tablename SET field1=:field1, field2=:field2 WHERE key=:key"); //if field3 should be update, run a separate query to update it separately if ($update3){ $update_part2 = $mypdo->prepare("UPDATE tablename SET field3=:field3 WHERE key=:key"); } But hopefully there is a way to accomplish this in 1 query?

  • MySQL INSERT data does not get stored in proper db, only temporary?

    - by greye
    I'm having trouble with MySQL or Python and can't seem to isolate the problem. INSERTs only seem to last the run of the script and are not stored in the database. I have this script: import MySQLdb db = MySQLdb.connect(host="localhost", user="user", passwd="password", db="example") dbcursor = db.cursor() dbcursor.execute("select * from tablename") temp = dbcursor.fetchall() print 'before: '+str(temp) dbcursor.execute('INSERT INTO tablename (data1, data2, data3) VALUES ("1", "a", "b")') dbcursor.execute("select * from tablename") temp = dbcursor.fetchall() print 'after: '+str(temp) The first time I run it I get the expected output: >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) The problem is that if I run it again, the before comes out empty when it should already have the entry in it and the after doesn't break (data 1 is primary key). >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) >>> before: () after: ((1L, 'a', 'b'),) If I try running the insert command twice in the same script it will break ("Duplicate entry for PRIMARY KEY") Any idea what might be happening here?

  • Update query with conditional?

    I'm not sure if this possible. If not, let me know. • Is multi-level polymorphism possible in SQLAlchemy?

    - by Jace
    Is it possible to have multi-level polymorphism in SQLAlchemy? Here's an example: class Entity(Base): __tablename__ = 'entities' id = Column(Integer, primary_key=True) created_at = Column(DateTime, default=datetime.utcnow, nullable=False) entity_type = Column(Unicode(20), nullable=False) __mapper_args__ = {'polymorphic_on': entity_type} class File(Entity): __tablename__ = 'files' id = Column(None, ForeignKey('entities.id'), primary_key=True) filepath = Column(Unicode(255), nullable=False) file_type = Column(Unicode(20), nullable=False) __mapper_args__ = {'polymorphic_identity': u'file', 'polymorphic_on': file_type) class Image(File): __mapper_args__ = {'polymorphic_identity': u'image'} __tablename__ = 'images' id = Column(None, ForeignKey('files.id'), primary_key=True) width = Column(Integer) height = Column(Integer) When I call Base.metadata.create_all(), SQLAlchemy raises the following error: NotImplementedError: Can't generate DDL for the null type IntegrityError: (IntegrityError) entities.entity_type may not be NULL. This error goes away if I remove the Image model and the polymorphic_on key in File. What gives? (Edited: the exception raised was wrong.)

  • Renamed MySQL table not renamed for INSERT queries?

    - by Austin Hyde
    After renaming one of my MySQL MyISAM tables from test_tablename to tablename, I have found that if I try to execute an INSERT (or REPLACE) query, I get the following message: 1146: Table 'dbname.test_tablename' doesn't exist I have triple-checked my database abstraction code, and verified this by running the query directly on the server. According to the MySQL server, the CREATE TABLE syntax is tablename, as expected, and when I run SHOW TABLES, it lists tablename as expected. Is there any reason for this to happen? More importantly, is there an easier way to fix this than dumping, dropping, re-creating, and reloading the table?

  • Uploading and Importing CSV file to SQL Server in ASP.NET WebForms

    - by Vincent Maverick Durano
    Few weeks ago I was working with a small internal project  that involves importing CSV file to Sql Server database and thought I'd share the simple implementation that I did on the project. In this post I will demonstrate how to upload and import CSV file to SQL Server database. As some may have already know, importing CSV file to SQL Server is easy and simple but difficulties arise when the CSV file contains, many columns with different data types. Basically, the provider cannot differentiate data types between the columns or the rows, blindly it will consider them as a data type based on first few rows and leave all the data which does not match the data type. To overcome this problem, I used schema.ini file to define the data type of the CSV file and allow the provider to read that and recognize the exact data types of each column. Now what is schema.ini? Taken from the documentation: The Schema.ini is a information file, used to define the data structure and format of each column that contains data in the CSV file. If schema.ini file exists in the directory, Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB provider automatically reads it and recognizes the data type information of each column in the CSV file. Thus, the provider intelligently avoids the misinterpretation of data types before inserting the data into the database. For more information see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms709353%28VS.85%29.aspx Points to remember before creating schema.ini:   1. The schema information file, must always named as 'schema.ini'.   2. The schema.ini file must be kept in the same directory where the CSV file exists.   3. The schema.ini file must be created before reading the CSV file.   4. The first line of the schema.ini, must the name of the CSV file, followed by the properties of the CSV file, and then the properties of the each column in the CSV file. Here's an example of how the schema looked like: [Employee.csv] ColNameHeader=False Format=CSVDelimited DateTimeFormat=dd-MMM-yyyy Col1=EmployeeID Long Col2=EmployeeFirstName Text Width 100 Col3=EmployeeLastName Text Width 50 Col4=EmployeeEmailAddress Text Width 50 To get started lets's go a head and create a simple blank database. Just for the purpose of this demo I created a database called TestDB. After creating the database then lets go a head and fire up Visual Studio and then create a new WebApplication project. Under the root application create a folder called UploadedCSVFiles and then place the schema.ini on that folder. The uploaded CSV files will be stored in this folder after the user imports the file. Now add a WebForm in the project and set up the HTML mark up and add one (1) FileUpload control one(1)Button and three (3) Label controls. After that we can now proceed with the codes for uploading and importing the CSV file to SQL Server database. Here are the full code blocks below: 1: using System; 2: using System.Data; 3: using System.Data.SqlClient; 4: using System.Data.OleDb; 5: using System.IO; 6: using System.Text; 7:   8: namespace WebApplication1 9: { 10: public partial class CSVToSQLImporting : System.Web.UI.Page 11: { 12: private string GetConnectionString() 13: { 14: return System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DBConnectionString"].ConnectionString; 15: } 16: private void CreateDatabaseTable(DataTable dt, string tableName) 17: { 18:   19: string sqlQuery = string.Empty; 20: string sqlDBType = string.Empty; 21: string dataType = string.Empty; 22: int maxLength = 0; 23: StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); 24:   25: sb.AppendFormat(string.Format("CREATE TABLE {0} (", tableName)); 26:   27: for (int i = 0; i < dt.Columns.Count; i++) 28: { 29: dataType = dt.Columns[i].DataType.ToString(); 30: if (dataType == "System.Int32") 31: { 32: sqlDBType = "INT"; 33: } 34: else if (dataType == "System.String") 35: { 36: sqlDBType = "NVARCHAR"; 37: maxLength = dt.Columns[i].MaxLength; 38: } 39:   40: if (maxLength > 0) 41: { 42: sb.AppendFormat(string.Format(" {0} {1} ({2}), ", dt.Columns[i].ColumnName, sqlDBType, maxLength)); 43: } 44: else 45: { 46: sb.AppendFormat(string.Format(" {0} {1}, ", dt.Columns[i].ColumnName, sqlDBType)); 47: } 48: } 49:   50: sqlQuery = sb.ToString(); 51: sqlQuery = sqlQuery.Trim().TrimEnd(','); 52: sqlQuery = sqlQuery + " )"; 53:   54: using (SqlConnection sqlConn = new SqlConnection(GetConnectionString())) 55: { 56: sqlConn.Open(); 57: SqlCommand sqlCmd = new SqlCommand(sqlQuery, sqlConn); 58: sqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); 59: sqlConn.Close(); 60: } 61:   62: } 63: private void LoadDataToDatabase(string tableName, string fileFullPath, string delimeter) 64: { 65: string sqlQuery = string.Empty; 66: StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); 67:   68: sb.AppendFormat(string.Format("BULK INSERT {0} ", tableName)); 69: sb.AppendFormat(string.Format(" FROM '{0}'", fileFullPath)); 70: sb.AppendFormat(string.Format(" WITH ( FIELDTERMINATOR = '{0}' , ROWTERMINATOR = '\n' )", delimeter)); 71:   72: sqlQuery = sb.ToString(); 73:   74: using (SqlConnection sqlConn = new SqlConnection(GetConnectionString())) 75: { 76: sqlConn.Open(); 77: SqlCommand sqlCmd = new SqlCommand(sqlQuery, sqlConn); 78: sqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); 79: sqlConn.Close(); 80: } 81: } 82: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) 83: { 84:   85: } 86: protected void BTNImport_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) 87: { 88: if (FileUpload1.HasFile) 89: { 90: FileInfo fileInfo = new FileInfo(FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName); 91: if (fileInfo.Name.Contains(".csv")) 92: { 93:   94: string fileName = fileInfo.Name.Replace(".csv", "").ToString(); 95: string csvFilePath = Server.MapPath("UploadedCSVFiles") + "\\" + fileInfo.Name; 96:   97: //Save the CSV file in the Server inside 'MyCSVFolder' 98: FileUpload1.SaveAs(csvFilePath); 99:   100: //Fetch the location of CSV file 101: string filePath = Server.MapPath("UploadedCSVFiles") + "\\"; 102: string strSql = "SELECT * FROM [" + fileInfo.Name + "]"; 103: string strCSVConnString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + filePath + ";" + "Extended Properties='text;HDR=YES;'"; 104:   105: // load the data from CSV to DataTable 106:   107: OleDbDataAdapter adapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(strSql, strCSVConnString); 108: DataTable dtCSV = new DataTable(); 109: DataTable dtSchema = new DataTable(); 110:   111: adapter.FillSchema(dtCSV, SchemaType.Mapped); 112: adapter.Fill(dtCSV); 113:   114: if (dtCSV.Rows.Count > 0) 115: { 116: CreateDatabaseTable(dtCSV, fileName); 117: Label2.Text = string.Format("The table ({0}) has been successfully created to the database.", fileName); 118:   119: string fileFullPath = filePath + fileInfo.Name; 120: LoadDataToDatabase(fileName, fileFullPath, ","); 121:   122: Label1.Text = string.Format("({0}) records has been loaded to the table {1}.", dtCSV.Rows.Count, fileName); 123: } 124: else 125: { 126: LBLError.Text = "File is empty."; 127: } 128: } 129: else 130: { 131: LBLError.Text = "Unable to recognize file."; 132: } 133:   134: } 135: } 136: } 137: } The code above consists of three (3) private methods which are the GetConnectionString(), CreateDatabaseTable() and LoadDataToDatabase(). The GetConnectionString() is a method that returns a string. This method basically gets the connection string that is configured in the web.config file. The CreateDatabaseTable() is method that accepts two (2) parameters which are the DataTable and the filename. As the method name already suggested, this method automatically create a Table to the database based on the source DataTable and the filename of the CSV file. The LoadDataToDatabase() is a method that accepts three (3) parameters which are the tableName, fileFullPath and delimeter value. This method is where the actual saving or importing of data from CSV to SQL server happend. The codes at BTNImport_Click event handles the uploading of CSV file to the specified location and at the same time this is where the CreateDatabaseTable() and LoadDataToDatabase() are being called. If you notice I also added some basic trappings and validations within that event. Now to test the importing utility then let's create a simple data in a CSV format. Just for the simplicity of this demo let's create a CSV file and name it as "Employee" and add some data on it. Here's an example below: 1,VMS,Durano,[email protected] 2,Jennifer,Cortes,[email protected] 3,Xhaiden,Durano,[email protected] 4,Angel,Santos,[email protected] 5,Kier,Binks,[email protected] 6,Erika,Bird,[email protected] 7,Vianne,Durano,[email protected] 8,Lilibeth,Tree,[email protected] 9,Bon,Bolger,[email protected] 10,Brian,Jones,[email protected] Now save the newly created CSV file in some location in your hard drive. Okay let's run the application and browse the CSV file that we have just created. Take a look at the sample screen shots below: After browsing the CSV file. After clicking the Import Button Now if we look at the database that we have created earlier you'll notice that the Employee table is created with the imported data on it. See below screen shot.   That's it! I hope someone find this post useful! Technorati Tags: ASP.NET,CSV,SQL,C#,ADO.NET

  • Excel Macro Runtime error 428 in Excel 2003

  • Android database closed exception

    - by Bombastic
    I'm working on a project where I'm downloading and saving data from web to sqlite database. A few minutes ago I receive a strange exception to our server from a user which is saying that the sqlite database is already closed..and I just checked the whole file where the exception happened and I'm not calling dbHelper.close();. Here is the function where the app crashes and LogCat message : public void insertCollectionCountries(JSONObject obj, Context context) { //Insert in collection_countries if(RPCCommunicator.isServiceRunning){ Log.w("","JsonCollection - insertCollectionCountries"); ContentValues valuesCountries = new ContentValues(); try { collectionId = Integer.parseInt(obj.getString("collection_id")); dbHelper.deleteSQL("collection_countries", "collection_id=?", new String[] {Integer.toString(collectionId)}); JSONArray arrayCountries = obj.getJSONArray("country_availability"); for (int i=0; i<arrayCountries.length(); i++) { valuesCountries.put("collection_id", collectionId); String countryCode = arrayCountries.getString(i); valuesCountries.put("country_code", countryCode); dbHelper.executeQuery("collection_countries", valuesCountries); } } catch (JSONException e){ e.printStackTrace(); } } } and the error is on that line : dbHelper.executeQuery("collection_countries", valuesCountries); here is the LogCat message : java.lang.IllegalStateException: database /data/data/com.stampii.stampii/databases/stampii_sys_tpl.sqlite (conn# 0) already closed at android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase.verifyDbIsOpen(SQLiteDatabase.java:2123) at android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase.setTransactionSuccessful(SQLiteDatabase.java:734) at com.stampii.stampii.comm.rpc.SystemDatabaseHelper.execQuery(SystemDatabaseHelper.java:298) at com.stampii.stampii.comm.rpc.SystemDatabaseHelper.executeQuery(SystemDatabaseHelper.java:291) at com.stampii.stampii.jsonAPI.JsonCollection.insertCollectionCounries(JsonCollection.java:548) at com.stampii.stampii.jsonAPI.JsonCollection.executeInsert(JsonCollection.java:181) at com.stampii.stampii.collections.MyService.downloadCollections(MyService.java:122) at com.stampii.stampii.collections.MyService$2.run(MyService.java:74) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:1020) and function in my dbHelperClass which I'm using to insert data : public boolean executeQuery(String tableName,ContentValues values){ return execQuery(tableName,values); } private boolean execQuery(String tableName,ContentValues values){ sqliteDb = instance.getWritableDatabase(); sqliteDb.beginTransaction(); sqliteDb.insert(tableName, null, values); sqliteDb.setTransactionSuccessful(); sqliteDb.endTransaction(); return true; } Any ideas which can close my sqlite database or what can cause that exception, because I've tested this code on a few emulators with different Android versions, different devices (HTC EVO 3D, Samsung Galaxy Nexus,HTC Desire, LG OPTIMUS PAD, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy Note) and it's working fine. Thanks in advance!

  • how to generate the "create table" sql statement for an existing table in postgreSQL

    - by Raja
    I have a table created long ago in postgreSQL. Now i want to look at the sql statement used to create it but cannot figure it out. Also when i do the \dS+ tablename it says table not found, but \dt+ tablename is working fine. The \dS+ lists all the table names owned by the root postgres user and doesn't show up tables that i created with my user account. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Why was this T-SQL Syntax never implemented?

    - by ChrisA
    Why did they never let us do this sort of thing: Create Proc RunParameterisedSelect @tableName varchar(100), @columnName varchar(100), @value varchar(100) as select * from @tableName where @columnName = @value You can use @value as a parameter, obviously, and you can achieve the whole thing with dynamic SQL, but creating it is invariably a pain. So why didn't they make it part of the language in some way, rather than forcing you to EXEC(@sql)?

  • Update Statement Updates 0 Rows via the C# Winform Application?

    - by peace
    First of all, please help me out! I can not take this anymore. I could not find where the error is located. Here is my problem: I'm trying to update a row via c# winform application. The update query generated from the application is formatted correctly. I tested it in the sql server environment, it worked well. When i run it from the application i get 0 rows updated. Here is the snippet that generates the update statement using reflection - don't try to figure it out. Carry on reading after the code portion: public void Update(int cusID) { SqlCommand objSqlCommand = new SqlCommand(); Customer cust = new Customer(); string SQL = null; try { if ((cusID != 0)) { foreach (PropertyInfo PropertyItem in this.GetType().GetProperties()) { if (!(PropertyItem.Name.ToString() == cust.PKName)) { if (PropertyItem.Name.ToString() != "TableName") { if (SQL == null) { SQL = PropertyItem.Name.ToString() + " = @" + PropertyItem.Name.ToString(); } else { SQL = SQL + ", " + PropertyItem.Name.ToString() + " = @" + PropertyItem.Name.ToString(); } } else { break; } } } objSqlCommand.CommandText = "UPDATE " + this.TableName + " SET " + SQL + " WHERE " + cust.PKName + " = @cusID AND PhoneNumber = " + "'" + "@phNum" + "'"; foreach (PropertyInfo PropertyItem in this.GetType().GetProperties()) { if (!(PropertyItem.Name.ToString() == cust.PKName)) { if (PropertyItem.Name.ToString() != "TableName") { objSqlCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@" + PropertyItem.Name.ToString(), PropertyItem.GetValue(this, null)); } else { break; } } } objSqlCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@cusID", cusID); objSqlCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@phNum", this.PhoneNumber); DAL.ExecuteSQL(objSqlCommand); } else { //AppEventLog.AddWarning("Primary Key is not provided for Update.") } } catch (Exception ex) { //AppEventLog.AddError(ex.Message.ToString) } } This part below: objSqlCommand.CommandText = "UPDATE " + this.TableName + " SET " + SQL + " WHERE " + cust.PKName + " = @cusID AND PhoneNumber = " + "'" + "@phNum" + "'"; generates dml: UPDATE CustomerPhone SET PhoneTypeID = @PhoneTypeID, PhoneNumber = @PhoneNumber WHERE CustomerID = @cusID AND PhoneNumber = '@phNum' @PhoneTypeID and @PhoneNumber are gotten from two properties. We assigned the value to these properties in the presentation layer from the user input text box. The portion below where fetches the values: objSqlCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@" + PropertyItem.Name.ToString(), PropertyItem.GetValue(this, null)); The code below fills the values of WHERE: objSqlCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@cusID", cusID); objSqlCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@phNum", this.PhoneNumber); The final code should look as: UPDATE CustomerPhone SET PhoneTypeID = 7, PhoneNumber = 999444 WHERE CustomerID = 500 AND PhoneNumber = '911'; Phone type id is 7 - user value that is taken from text box Phone number is 999444 - user value that is taken from text box The above final update statement works on the sql environment, but when running via the application, the execute non query runs ok and gets 0 rows updated! I wonder why?
