  • Besxt Text-to-Speech Solution for my Website

    I'm working on the 'Ease of Access' section of my website with the options to increase the font-size displayed on pages to a minimum, invert colours and whatnot. I wish to implement a plugin which, if enabled by the user, to read content on my website. Presumably my best option is a website plugin, however there might be some programming I've not come across which allows the likes of PHP to read content. I'm not entirely sure how this all works.     I have successfully used Ctrl+Shift+Up ' Ctrl+Shift+down ' Ctrl+Shift+left' Ctrl+Shift+Right to different commands. But when I tried to use Ctrl+s to the command save-buffer and Ctrl+Shift+s, which is equivalent to Ctrl+S, to another command, it has some problem. save-buffer works fine, but when I type Ctrl+Shift+s, it excute the command save-buffer. I used Ctrl+q to find the control sequences of Ctrl+s and Ctrl+Shift+S, I get the same result, which is ^S. I expect that I will get ^s for Ctrl+s, but it doesn't. Anyone knows the reason? Another queston is: I use Ctrl+c for the command killing-ring-save. In this case, all commands (which are of large number) begin with Ctrl+c don't work now. Is there a way to replace the prefix Ctrl+c by another customized prefix? I may pose my question in the wrong direction. I use ctrl+c as killing-ring-save. It works fine in emacs (no mode). But if I open a .c file (C-mode), then when I type Ctrl+c, it waits me to type another key. I think in this case, ctrl+c is regarded as a prefix. In this case, I need the following modifications: Using a custom defined prefix, say Ctrl+a, as Ctrl+c ; Remove the prefix Ctrl+c ; Using Ctrl+c as killing-ring-save. I add the following to my ~/.emacs : (defun my-c-initialization-hook () (define-key c-mode-base-map (kbd "C-a") mode-specific-map) (define-key c-mode-base-map (kbd "C-c") 'kill-ring-save)) (add-hook 'c-initialization-hook 'my-c-initialization-hook) But this doesn't work. Ctrl+c is still regarded as a prefix, so I can't use it as kill-ring-save. Furthermore, if I type Ctrl+a Ctrl+c, it said it's not defined. (I thought it will have the same result as I type Ctrl+c Ctrl+c)

    Currently I am writing on my thesis for university, the theme I am working on is 3D Visualization of hierarchical structures using cone trees. I want to do is to draw a cone and arrange a number of spheres at the bottom of the cone. The spheres should be arranged according to the radius and the number of spheres correctly. As you can imagine I need a lot of these cone/sphere combinations. First Attempt I was able to find some tutorials that helped with drawing cones and spheres. I tried is to draw just the cone and then draw the spheres. I need a lot of these cones, so it would be pretty hard to calculate all the positions correctly. Second Attempt So the second try was to generate a object that builds all vertices of the cone and all of the spheres at once. So I was hoping to render a cone with all its spheres arranged correctly. After a short debug I found out that the cone is created and the first sphere, when it turn of the second sphere I am running into an OutOfBoundsException of ushort.MaxValue.   • Is copy paste programming bad ?

    With plain google as well as google code search tools it is easy to find how to program using some resource or solve certain problems ( such as a Java class, or a ftp block in perl etc) and so developers are so tempted to just purely copy paste the code (in a way re-use) - is this an incompetency? I have done this myself though I think I am a better programmer than many others I have seen. Who has the time to RTFM? In this age of information abundance, I do not think that copy paste programming is bad. Isn't that what sites like stackoverflow do anyway? People ask - ok here is my problem - how to solve it? now someone will post complete code and the person who asked the question would simply copy paste the most voted answer. No matter how small the problem is. I am working with a bunch of young coders who heavily rely on internet to get their job done. I see convenience (for example, you may be quite good with algorithms and such but you may not know how to use a BufferedReader in Java - would you read complete Javadoc for BufferedReader or look up some example of using it somewhere??) in copy pasting and modifying code to get the job done. What are the real dangers of copy paste coding that can impact their competency?

    I work in a team with wide range of expertise and experience. I have been trying to introduce weekly knowledge sharing sessions. Sessions of 30-60 min length where everybody gets a chance to present something and talk about it. This will contribute in improving presentational and language skills. However, the team is not motivated towards this, either the attendance is too low or none. How to get a team work towards such an idea?

  • Problems after resuming from hibernate

    I have a problem with maverick when resuming from hibernate. Here's a screenshot: Also I'm getting the following errors before the screen appears: *ERROR* render ring head not reset to zero ctl 00... *ERROR* render ring head forced to zero ctl 00000... I tried upgrading to PPA kernel to 2.5.36 and 2.5.37 beta but the problem persists. I have a vaio notebook with an intel graphics card 4500mhd. Anyone knows of a fix?

  • Obtaining MAC address

    According to Obtain client MAC address in ASP.NET Application, it is not possible. I am not entirely convinced because whenever I connect to Tim Hortons WiFi, my MAC address is known. Occasionally, the network is slow and I see this URL like this before being redirected to the Connect page: http://timhortonswifi.com/cp/tdl3/index.asp ?cmd=login &switchip=172.30.129.73 &mac=60:6c:66:17:1a:83 &ip=10.40.66.229 &essid=Tim%20Hortons%20WiFi &apname=TDL-ON-NEP-02177-WAP1 &apgroup=02177 &url=http%3A%2F%2Fweather%2Egc%2Eca%2Fcity%2Fpages%2Fon-72_metric_e%2Ehtml So according to this URL, the site knows the IP address of the router, my MAC address, the IP address assigned to my device by the router, the network SSID, some other pieces of information, and the URL I was trying to access prior to connecting. There's two options: Tim Hortons WiFi Basic and Tim Hortons WiFi Plus, where the "Plus" option allows me to connect to any Tim Hortons WiFi access point in Canada automatically with this device. Registration requires an email address, so I'm assuming this is possible by checking the MAC address and storing it in a database that routers ping upon connection. More info here. According to the extension of this page, I can safely assume it is ASP. How are they obtaining this information?

The tone is based off the computer's internal time in minutes, but I'd like to simultaneously play one based off the second for a harmonized or dualing sound.     This error occurred on our TFS2008 build server which we had upgraded to cater for VS2010 projects (by installing VS2010 on the build server - see this article). Error MSB4019: The imported project "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the <Import> declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk. However - although we had installed VS2010 on the build server - we had not installed the web development components (Visual Web Developer) - this is what caused the error. To fix - simply add the web development components: Go into Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs Select Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, and click on Change/Remove In the VS Maintenance Mode screens, select Add or Remove Features In the Setup - Options page make sure 'Visual Web Developer' is checked. Click on Update.   You shouldn't need to restart your build service. HTH Tim

  • updater stuck on downloading python files

    However i am a java programmer is consider myself as a linux noob. So i could use a little help here... I am trying to update my ubuntu from version 10.04 to 12.04.1 (LTS). The downloading start and runs at around 10MB/s untill i am somewhere near 26% and the speed just drops to 0. I figured i could use the command "do-release-update" so i could see what it was doing. Again the same occured: the downloading stucked on 26% at "http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubunutu/ precise/main python-qt4 1386 4.9.1-2ubuntu1". It says it downloaded 41% of that file/package. It also tries another wget on the same file every X seconds. Help? Greetings Tim, Holland.

  • Part of the launcher has been cut off, Ubuntu 12.04

    After a hard drive failure on my iMac, I replaced it and installed Ubuntu. So far, I am finding it very easy to use, however there is one problem which is making it much harder. The bottom of the launcher is missing - it is 'covered' by the desktop background. This means that I cant see the trash, or bottom few icons. Even if I scroll, it doesn't show it. Any help is very much appreciated. If you send a message to [email protected], with the subject "launcher photo", I will send you an email with the photo of the missing part attached. Currently, my only fix is to enable and then disable the extra screen it thinks is there - called unknown device

The reason why I am asking for help now is that I don't have a clue why my newly added accordion(s) do not expand upon being clicked. I've got a feeling it may be due to the newly added code as I was having problems using my code in the file so instead I looked at the source and copied the accordion level to be used and all appears to look fine apart from them not expanding.   • On-line Based Conferencing For Admin Panel

    Working on my admin panels work station section which will allow the admin to use simple office tools such as word editors, calculators and whatnot. Under this section of the admin panel, I would like to add a conferencing feature which will allow any administrator to connect with another administrator 1-2-1 under the 1-2-1 Conferencing section, or to join a meeting under 'live meeting' section. Upon my search for on-line based, I found there are all these, what seem to be great applications out there, however not all of them are on-line based, and come with a price! I would like to a purely on-line based conferencing/meeting/1-2-1 feature which will allow administrators to communicate via text or sound, stream their video, share their screen and sending of files. I know this sounds like a big feature, and I am not asking for someone to answer by programming one for my website! This actions drop down I would like to have an action to 'Enable Editing'. Upon clicking to enable editing, I would like a PHP variable modified from 'EnableEditing = false' to 'EnableEditing = true'. Why I would like to use PHP maybe questionable, here is why I would like to use PHP under my understanding to clarify; Sections on my page will show to different administrators depending on their level. Upon enabling editing mode, certain contents will then dynamically. <?php if ($_SESSION['user_level_status'] < 2) { if ($editing = enabled) { show this } else { show this } } ?> Something similar to this, I'm new at PHP so this may look incorrect.   • Access to File being restricted after Ubuntu crashed

    My Ubuntu 8.10 crashed due to the overheating problem of the CPU when I am opening some directory and intend to do some file transfer under Nautilus. After reboot, under gnome, all the files cannot be removed, their properties cannot be viewed and they can only be opened, although all are still fine under terminal. I was wondering why is that and how can I fix it?
