  • Openfire on EC2 with Jingle

    - by Bjorn Roche
I would like to run Openfire (or another XMPP server) on EC2. At the moment this is just for testing, so easy setup and configuration are important, as is low cost. At some point, however, if things go well, it will be important to scale this. Ideally, it would be nice to not have to switch software when the scaling happens, but if a switch needs to happen later it certainly can. My requirements are: basic XMPP services, including muc and pubsub. Logins controlled from an external API. Preferably, when a user attempts to connect, the XMPP server checks with the api to see if their username and password are correct, but I can also have the API keep the XMPP server up to date on new users, deleted users, pasword changes and so on. I see Openfire has a "user service" API. Not ideal, but it looks workable. Jingle, including relay and STUN. It's not at all clear to me if the Jingle Nodes plugin takes care of this. I'm a bit confused about what's required to set this up, and I'd rather know in advance than be confused along the way :). eg It seems like STUN servers require more than one IP address. Can Openfire do all this for me, including stun and media relay on a single machine? Is this hard to configure on EC2 with Openfire? What are the basic steps? Would this be easier with something else like, say Tigase? What about database? Should I use amazon's database service, or run a db on the same machine? Would the server be compatible with a service like http://www.siteuptime.com/ Thanks!

  • Is there a way to implement an XMPP client or message reciever that can recieve all the messages fro

    - by roberto
Basically im trying to build a bot that can send a message using one of many accounts out to a user and be able to receive messages to that account it originally used process and do whatever I need it to do. So far I found the JAXL library (http://code.google.com/p/jaxl/) but based on examples it is only able to handle one user at a time. Any suggestions or ideas? thank you in advanced. btw if there is anyway to make the server automatically forward those messages to another program or whatever that works just as well.

  • Strophe javascript prevent disconnection on some delay

    - by patrikas
Hello, I am developing javascript XMPP application which uses Strophe library to connect to Jabber server. I need to engage the thread for about 5-10 seconds when Strophe connects to the server. Thread is engaged by running java applet and after it releases the thread it goes back to handle XMPP events, however at the moment I cannot manage to do that - trying to use a connection after delay gives me 404 HTTP error (this is sent by XMPP-BOSHS service straight after Strophe sends POST request with XMPP message to it). I was trying to 'pause' a connection with Strophe's connection.pause and then resume it - didn't work. Would sending some raw content to the server, maybe if it's possible telling it that client's gonna be unresponsive for a short time work ? Are there any other solutions ? Thanks

  • Using Openfire for distributed XMPP-based video-chat

    - by Yitzhak
I have been tasked with setting up a distributed video-chat system built on XMPP. Currently my setup looks like this: Openfire (XMPP server) + JingleNodes plugin for video chat OpenLDAP (LDAP server) for storing user information and allowing directory queries Kerberos server for authentication and passwords In testing with one set of machines (i.e. only three), everything works as expected: I can log in to Openfire and it looks up the user information in the OpenLDAP database, which in turn authenticates my user with Kerberos. Now, I want to have several clusters, so that there is a cluster on each continent. A typical cluster will probably contain 2-5 servers. Users logging in will be directed to the closest cluster based on geographical location. Something that concerns me particularly is the dynamic maintenance of contact lists. If a user is using a machine in Asia, for example, how would contact lists be updated around the world to reflect the current server he is using? How would that work with LDAP? Specific questions: How do I direct users based on geographical location? What is the best architecture for a cluster? -- would all traffic need to come into a load-balancer on each one, for example? How do I manage the update of contact lists across all these servers? In general, how do I go about setting this up? What are the pitfalls in doing this? I am inexperienced in this area, so any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Why does iChat Server keep connecting to proxy.eu.jabber.org?

    - by Tom Hamming
I have OS X Server 10.6.5 running on a new Mac Mini (server model), serving several functions among which is iChat Server (iChat and Pidgin on Windows as clients). In the iChat log in Server Admin, I kept seeing entries about connecting to proxy.eu.jabber.org. It's for our office network and I wasn't excited about external access to it, so I disabled server-to-server XMPP federation and now the connections just time out. But why is it doing that in the first place? Sample log entry: (datetime) (servername)jabberd/resolver[portnum]: [xmpp-server._tcp.proxy.eu.jabber.org resolved to 208.68.163.220:5269 (300 seconds to live) then: sending dialback auth request for route '(full server hostname)/proxy.eu.jabber.org' A couple minutes later, it comes back with: dialback for outgoing route '(full server hostname)/proxy.eu.jabber.org' timed out

  • Empathy 3.6.0 requires reauthorisation to Windows Live on every reboot

    - by Allu2
I've been testing Ubuntu 12.10 beta2 and the only problem I've faced has been that with Windows Live Messenger(a.k.a MSN) After I have added Windows Live in the online-accounts in system settings, empathy works fine and connects to Windows Live Messenger with no problems until I reboot my system. After rebooting and logging in, when empathy connects to services it shows me message "Windows Live account requires authorisation" next to it is a button that takes me back to online-accounts where i can see the authorized Windows Live. So far the only way to get MSN work again has been to remove the Windows Live authorisation and add it again, which makes it work till the next time i close my computer. How could i make empathy to remember the authorisation to Windows Live

  • Cost of sending XMPP messages via Google App engine

    - by Alfred
Hopefully this question is allowed over here. It does not really have to do with programming per se but with the costs associated with it. My question is: "How much does sending/receiving XMPP messages cost". I can find all the information about email etc. But I could not find information about costs sending/receiving XMPP messages.

  • What does pidgin mean by "Host unknown"?

    - by Mr. Jefferson
Pidgin is telling me my XMPP account was disconnected; the error message is "Host Unknown". What specifically does this indicate? Can it not find the server it's supposed to connect to (one in my office)? I can ping the server in the "Domain" account setting (under Basic) without a problem, and I even tried specifying an IP address in the "Connect server" account setting (under Advanced) without success.

  • Smack API giving error while logging into Tigase Server setup locally

    - by Ameya Phadke
Hi, I am currently developing android XMPP client to communicate with the Tigase server setup locally. Before starting development on Android I am writing a simple java code on PC to test connectivity with XMPP server. My XMPP domain is my pc name "mwbn43-1" and administrator username and passwords are admin and tigase respectively. Following is the snippet of the code I am using class Test { public static void main(String args[])throws Exception { System.setProperty("smack.debugEnabled", "true"); XMPPConnection.DEBUG_ENABLED = true; ConnectionConfiguration config = new ConnectionConfiguration("mwbn43-1", 5222); config.setCompressionEnabled(true); config.setSASLAuthenticationEnabled(true); XMPPConnection con = new XMPPConnection(config); // Connect to the server con.connect(); con.login("admin", "tigase"); Chat chat = con.getChatManager().createChat("aaphadke@mwbn43-1", new MessageListener() { public void processMessage(Chat chat, Message message) { // Print out any messages we get back to standard out. System.out.println("Received message: " + message); } }); try { chat.sendMessage("Hi!"); } catch (XMPPException e) { System.out.println("Error Delivering block"); } String host = con.getHost(); String user = con.getUser(); String id = con.getConnectionID(); int port = con.getPort(); boolean i = false; i = con.isConnected(); if (i) System.out.println("Connected to host " + host + " via port " + port + " connection id is " + id); System.out.println("User is " + user); con.disconnect(); } } When I run this code I get following error Exception in thread "main" Resource binding not offered by server: at org.jivesoftware.smack.SASLAuthentication.bindResourceAndEstablishSession(SASLAuthenticatio n.java:416) at org.jivesoftware.smack.SASLAuthentication.authenticate(SASLAuthentication.java:331) at org.jivesoftware.smack.XMPPConnection.login(XMPPConnection.java:395) at org.jivesoftware.smack.XMPPConnection.login(XMPPConnection.java:349) at Test.main(Test.java:26) I found this articles on the same problem but no concrete solution here Could anyone please tell me the solution for this problem.I checked the XMPPConnection.java file in the Smack API and it looks the same as given in the link solution. • Sending and receiving IM messages via controller in Rails

    - by Grnbeagle
Hi, I need a way to handle XMPP communication in my Rails app. My requirements are: Keep an instance of XMPP client running and logged in as one specific user (my bot user) Trigger an event from a controller to send a message and wait for a reply. The message is sent to another machine equipped with a bot so that the reply is supposed to be returned quickly. I installed xmpp4r and backgrounDrb similar to what's described here, but backgrounDrb seems to have evolved and I couldn't get it to wait for a reply. If it has to happen asynchronously, I am willing to use a server-push technology to notify the browser when the reply arrives. To give you a better idea, here are snippets of my code: (In controller) class ServicesController < ApplicationController layout 'simple' def index render :text => "index" end def show @my_service = Service.find(params[:id]) worker = MiddleMan.worker(:jabber_agent_worker) worker.send_request(:arg => {:jid => "someuser@someserver", :cmd => "help"}) render :text => "testing" end end (In worker script) require 'xmpp4r' require 'logger' class JabberAgentWorker < BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker set_worker_name :jabber_agent_worker def create(args = nil) jid = Jabber::JID.new('myagent@myserver') @client = Jabber::Client.new(jid) @client.connect @client.auth('pass') @client.send(Jabber::Presence.new.set_show(:chat).set_status('BackgrounDRb')) @client.add_message_callback do |message| logger.info("**** messaged received: #{message}") # never reaches here end end def send_request(args = nil) to_jid = Jabber::JID.new(args[:jid]) message = Jabber::Message::new(to_jid, args[:cmd]).set_type(:normal).set_id('1') @client.send(message) end end If anyone can tell me any of the following, I'd much appreciate it: issue with my backgrounDrb usage other background process alternatives appropriate for XMPP interactions other ways of achieving this Thanks in advance.

  • capture nimbuzz traffic

    - by lurscher
I need to capture all the traffic, specially during login, between nimbuzz pc client and nimbuzz server. The reason is that i need to debug outgoing packets at login that mark the user visibility status in order to reproduce them in a in-house XMPP client application I've tried doing this with wireshark, but i seem to be pretty helpless with this tool. Also, the packets i've been able to see are all before the SASL negotiation happens, after that, i cannot see the xml packets being exchanged any help for how to achieve this task is greatly appreciated (preferably on Windows, since there is no nimbuzz client for linux, in any case i can install one in a VM and monitor the traffic between the VM instance in the linux host)

  • How to configure LAMP server for iOS social/chat app?

    - by andufo
I'm on the last developing phase of a social networking app for iOS that has a chat module. Right now I'm trying to figure out the best way to achieve these features: Send message instantly to another user. If other user is online, delivery should be instantly. If user reads the message, the remitent should be notified of that action. If a user visits my profile, I should be notified instantly. What would be, in your opinion, the best approach to achieve that experience? The server is CentOS 5.6. I've previously reviewed XMPP, sockets, but I'm still unsure on what the best approach is. Any opinions and resources will be much appreciated.

  • Any reason why I shouldn't use couchdb for message passing or realtime activity streams?

    - by Up
While using ampq or xmpp (rabbitmq or ejabbered that could have couchdb as backends) seems like a good fit to deliver real time updates about friend state in a social gaming platform where updates are small but frequent, I can't help but think why wouldn't couchdb be a good platform to deliver such updates? The main advantage I could think of is its ability to filter updates based on friends and availability of changes api, which makes developing such an application and managing it (including replication) quite easy compared to ampq or xmpp where you have to think about how to manage the pubsub nodes and who is subscribed to them at any point in time. However, I can't help but think this is too good to be true, I can't find information on what couchdb's shortcomings are. Somehow, it feels like using MySQL for message passing which is why I am hesitant to using it. Anyone have any experience in using couchdb for such applications? would you recommend another platform to use?

  • Send invitation to any user of google chats (is it possible?)

    - by Gizzo
Hi I try to realize simple code on perl which should just get/send messages from/to gtalk accounts. I use Net::XMPP::* modules. All works just fine for users, who are my friends (in my "buddy" list). But i can't send message to unknown user. I know, that for this case i must send an invitation first, but Net::XMPP::* don't provide this possibility. There is only one way to invite person - construct my own xml according to "XEP-0155 Stanza Session Negotiation" protocol. But this doesn't work correct. When i send xml to server, it returns error "service-unavailable". I send: <message to='[email protected]'> <sxde xmlns='http://jabber.org/protocol/sxde' xmlns:sxde='http://jabber.org/protocol/sxde#metadata' session='0AEF4278DC4B6577' id='b'> <negotiation> <invitation> <feature var='http://jabber.org/protocol/whiteboard' /> </invitation> </negotiation> </sxde> </message> before my message. Or maybe there are another way to send message without any invitation? Thanks in advance

  • Getting a Jabber status via Python

    - by Teegijee
I'm developing a website using the Django framework, and I need to retrieve Jabber (okay, Google Talk) statuses for a user. Most of the Jabber python libraries seem like an incredible amount of overkill (and overhead) for a simple task. Is there any simple way to do this? I know very little about XMPP/Jabber, though of course I'm willing to learn. Do you need to be an authenticated and "friended" user to retrieve another user's status?

  • How to turn off autosignin of registered transports in Openfire ?

    - by Jacques René Mesrine
This is regarding the gateway XEP 0100 support in Openfire. I have noticed that for some transports, they are auto-signed in once a connection to openfire succeeds (via the xmpp user). This applies specifically to QQ. How does one turn off this auto-signin feature ? Basically from a client perspective, I want to be able to signin selectively. So when I create an XMPPConnection to openfire, all transports should remain signed off until I send directed Presences to transports.
