  • iPhone SDK: Track users location using GPS

    - by Nic Hubbard
I have a few questions about CoreLocation and GPS. First, what method in core location is used to continually get the users current coordinates? And at what interval should these be retrieved? Second, should these coordinates be pushed into a NSMutableArray each time they are received, so that the array of coordinates will represent the users path? Thanks, just wanting to get started getting me mind around this.

  • populate CoreData data model from JSON files prior to app start

    - by johannes_d
I am creating an iPad App that displays data I got from an API in JSON format. My Core Data model has several entities(Countries, Events, Talks, ...). For each entity I have one .json file that contains all instances of the entity and its attributes as well as its relationships. I would like to populate my Core Data data model with these entities before the start of the App (otherwise it takes about 15 minutes for the iPad to create all the instances of the entities from the several JSON files using factory methods). I am currently importing the data into CoreData like this: -(void)fetchDataIntoDocument:(UIManagedDocument *)document { dispatch_queue_t dataQ = dispatch_queue_create("Data import", NULL); dispatch_async(dataQ, ^{ //Fetching data from application bundle NSURL *tedxgroupsurl = [[NSBundle mainBundle] URLForResource:@"contries" withExtension:@"json"]; NSURL *tedxeventsurl = [[NSBundle mainBundle] URLForResource:@"events" withExtension:@"json"]; //converting the JSON files to NSDictionaries NSError *error = nil; NSDictionary *countries = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:countriesurl] options:kNilOptions error:&error]; countries = [countries objectForKey:@"countries"]; NSDictionary *events = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:eventsurl] options:kNilOptions error:&error]; events = [events objectForKey:@"events"]; //creating entities using factory methods in NSManagedObject Subclasses (Country / Event) [document.managedObjectContext performBlock:^{ NSLog(@"creating countries"); for (NSDictionary *country in countries) { [Country countryWithCountryInfo:country inManagedObjectContext:document.managedObjectContext]; //creating Country entities } NSLog(@"creating events"); for (NSDictionary *event in events) { [Event eventWithEventInfo:event inManagedObjectContext:document.managedObjectContext]; // creating Event entities } NSLog(@"done creating, saving document"); [document saveToURL:document.fileURL forSaveOperation:UIDocumentSaveForOverwriting completionHandler:NULL]; }]; }); dispatch_release(dataQ); } This combines the different JSON files into one UIManagedDocument which i can then perform fetchRequests on to populate tableViews, mapView, etc. I'm looking for a way to create this document outside my application & add it to the mainBundle. Then I could copy it once to the apps DocumentsDirectory and be able I use it (instead of creating the Document within the app from the original JSON files). Any help is appreciated!

  • Decide which caching startegy to use ?

    - by hib
Hi all, I want to cache my loaded data so that I can reduce my application start time . I know several strategies to store application data i.e. core data, nsuserdefaults , archiving . Now my scenario is that suppose that I have array of maximum 10 objects each object having 5 fields . So I can not decide which strategy to store this array an later retrieving the same . Thanks .

  • How to write an RDF Schema?

    - by trickdev
I am trying to get my head around using RDF to describe custom resources. I understand there are xmlns' out there such as Dublin Core and foaf which provide predefined element sets. How do I go about creating my own? I may be barking up the wrong tree of course and should stick to xml + xsd?

  • Best practices and Design Patterns for iPhone forms?

    - by cannyboy
Part of the app I'm making requires the user to fill in a multi-page form, the contents of which will be saved locally (perhaps using Core Data). Are there any best practices for this? This form just includes text fields. I guess the options are UITextFields, or perhaps a UIWebView, with the fields as part of an html form? Are there are any best practices, or design patterns, which are good for this kind of thing?

  • iphone coredata removing records between two entities connected by relation ship

    - by satyam
I'm implementing core data in my iphone app. It has two entities. Entity1: LatestData Entity2: LatestDetailedData LatestData has URL, publishedDate, heading LatestDetailedData has URL, NewsDescription, PublishedDate, Author Both entities have same URL for a record. Both the entities are connected with inverse relation ship. And the relation ship is "delete-Cascaded" What I want: If I remove a record in LatestData, I want the record with same URL in LatestDetailedData must also be deleted. How?

  • Which methods are good to overwrite when creating custom NSManagedObject subclasses?

    - by mystify
The Core Data Programming Guide talks a lot about what not to overwrite. So the question is: What is good to overwrite? Like I see it, I can't overwrite -init or -initWithEntity:insertIntoManagedObjectContext: So where else would be a good overwrite point to set up some basic stuff? Or is it generally not needed to do custom initialization? Does the whole thing rely only on accessing properties which then start to do fancy things? So no custom initializations?

  • managed object subclasses are not generating implementation files and are incorrectly named

    - by mkc842
In Xcode 4.6, I generated plenty of managed object subclass files without any problem. But now that I'm trying to do it in Xcode 5, it generates only a .h file. The header file has the correct properties, but it takes the name of my project, rather than the name of the core data entity I selected. Just to be sure I hadn't forgotten something, I carefully followed these steps . What could be going on? Thanks

  • iPhone App Crashes when merging managed object contexts

    - by DVG
Short Version: Using two managed object contexts, and while the context is saving to the store the application bombs when I attempt to merge the two contexts and reload the table view. Long Version: Okay, so my application is set up as thus. 3 view controllers, all table views. Platforms View Controller - Games View Controller (Predicated upon platform selection) - Add Game View Controller I ran into a problem when Games View Controller was bombing when adding a new entry to the context, because the fetched results contorller wanted to update the view for something that didn't match the predicate. As a solution, I rebuilt the Add Controller to use a second NSManagedObject Context, called adding context, following the design pattern in the Core Data Books example. My Games List View Controller is a delegate for the add controller, to handle all the saving, so my addButtonPressed method looks like this - (IBAction) addButtonPressed: (id) sender { AddGameTableViewController *addGameVC = [[AddGameTableViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"AddGameTableViewController" bundle:nil]; NSManagedObjectContext *aAddingContext = [[NSManagedObjectContext alloc] init]; self.addingContext = aAddingContext; [aAddingContext release]; [addingContext setPersistentStoreCoordinator:[[gameResultsController managedObjectContext] persistentStoreCoordinator]]; addGameVC.context = addingContext; addGameVC.delegate = self; addGameVC.newGame = (Game *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Game" inManagedObjectContext:addingContext]; UINavigationController *addNavCon = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:addGameVC]; [self presentModalViewController:addNavCon animated:YES]; [addGameVC release]; [addNavCon release]; } There is also a delegate method which handles the saving. This all works swimmingly. The issue is getting the table view controller in the GameListViewController to update itself. Per the example, an observer is added to watch for the second context to be saved, and then to merge the addingContext with the primary one. So I have: - (void)addViewController:(AddGameTableViewController *)controller didFinishWithSave:(BOOL)save { if (save) { NSNotificationCenter *dnc = [NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter]; [dnc addObserver:self selector:@selector(addControllerContextDidSave:) name:NSManagedObjectContextDidSaveNotification object:addingContext]; //snip! Context Save Code [dnc removeObserver:self name:NSManagedObjectContextDidSaveNotification object:addingContext]; } self.addingContext = nil; [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } - (void)addControllerContextDidSave:(NSNotification*)saveNotification { NSManagedObjectContext *myContext = [gameResultsController managedObjectContext]; [myContext mergeChangesFromContextDidSaveNotification:saveNotification]; } So now, what happens is after save is pressed, the application hangs for a moment and then crashes. The save is processed, as the new game is present when I relaunch the application, and the application seems to be flowing as appropriate, but it bombs out for reasons that are beyond my understanding. NSLog of the saveNotification spits out this: NSConcreteNotification 0x3b557f0 {name = NSManagingContextDidSaveChangesNotification; object = <NSManagedObjectContext: 0x3b4bb90>; userInfo = { inserted = {( <Game: 0x3b4f510> (entity: Game; id: 0x3b614e0 <x-coredata://13168366-B8E7-41C8-B384-BAF14A5E08D9/Game/p2> ; data: { name = "Final Fantasy XIII"; platform = 0x3b66910 <x-coredata://13168366-B8E7-41C8-B384-BAF14A5E08D9/Platform/p20>; }) )}; updated = {( <Platform: 0x3b67650> (entity: Platform; id: 0x3b66910 <x-coredata://13168366-B8E7-41C8-B384-BAF14A5E08D9/Platform/p20> ; data: { games = ( 0x3b614e0 <x-coredata://13168366-B8E7-41C8-B384-BAF14A5E08D9/Game/p2>, 0x603a530 <x-coredata://13168366-B8E7-41C8-B384-BAF14A5E08D9/Game/p1> ); name = "Xbox 360"; }) )}; }} I've tried both a simple [self.tableView reloadData]; and the more complicated multi-method table updating structure in the Core Data Books example. Both produce the same result.

  • PDF rendering crashes app Core Graphics

    - by Felixyz
EDIT: The memory leaks turned out to be unrelated to the crashes. Leaks are fixed but crashes remain, still mysterious. My (iPhone) app does lots of PDF loading and rendering, some of it threaded. Sometime, it seems always after I flush a page cash after getting a memory warning, the app crashes with a bad access when trying to draw a pdf page stored in an NSData object. Here is one example trace: #0 0x3016d564 in CGPDFResourcesGetResource () #1 0x3016d58a in CGPDFResourcesGetResource () #2 0x3016d94e in CGPDFResourcesGetExtGState () #3 0x3015fac4 in CGPDFContentStreamGetExtGState () #4 0x301629a8 in op_gs () #5 0x3016df12 in handle_xname () #6 0x3016dd9e in read_objects () #7 0x3016de6c in CGPDFScannerScan () #8 0x30161e34 in CGPDFDrawingContextDraw () #9 0x3016a9dc in CGContextDrawPDFPage () But sometimes I get this instead: Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. (gdb) bt #0 0x335625fa in objc_msgSend () #1 0x32c04eba in CFDictionaryGetValue () #2 0x3016d500 in get_value () #3 0x3016d5d6 in CGPDFResourcesGetFont () #4 0x3015fbb4 in CGPDFContentStreamGetFont () #5 0x30163480 in op_Tf () #6 0x3016df12 in handle_xname () #7 0x3016dd9e in read_objects () #8 0x3016de6c in CGPDFScannerScan () #9 0x30161e34 in CGPDFDrawingContextDraw () #10 0x3016a9dc in CGContextDrawPDFPage () Is this an indication that I've mistakenly deallocated an object? It's hard for me to decode what's happening here. This is how I create and retain the various objects involved: // Some data was just loaded from the network and is pointed to by "data" self.pdfData = data; _dataProviderRef = CGDataProviderCreateWithData( NULL, [_pdfData bytes], [_pdfData length], NULL ); _documentRef = CGPDFDocumentCreateWithProvider(_dataProviderRef); _pageRef = CGPDFDocumentGetPage(_documentRef, 1); CGPDFPageRetain(_pageRef); _pdfFrame = CGPDFPageGetBoxRect(_pageRef, kCGPDFArtBox); So the NSData object is retained, and I explicitly retain the page reference. The data provider and the document are already retained by the create-functions. And here is my dealloc method: -(void)dealloc { if (_pageRef) CGPDFPageRelease(_pageRef); if (_documentRef) CGPDFDocumentRelease(_documentRef); if (_dataProviderRef) CGDataProviderRelease(_dataProviderRef); self.pdfData = nil; [super dealloc]; } Am I doing anything wrong? Even an assurance that I'm not, with explanation, would be a help.

  • App using MonoTouch Core Graphics mysteriously crashes

    - by Stephen Ashley
My app launches with a view controller and a simple view consisting of a button and a subview. When the user touches the button, the subview is populated with scrollviews that display the column headers, row headers, and cells of a spreadsheet. To draw the cells, I use CGBitmapContext to draw the cells, generate an image, and then put the image into the imageview contained in the scrollview that displays the cells. When I run the app on the iPad, it displays the cells just fine, and the scrollview lets the user scroll around in the spreadsheet without any problems. If the user touches the button a second time, the spreadsheet redraws and continues to work perfectly, If, however, the user touches the button a third time, the app crashes. There is no exception information display in the Application Output window. My first thought was that the successive button pushes were using up all the available memory, so I overrode the DidReceiveMemoryWarning method in the view controller and used a breakpoint to confirm that this method was not getting called. My next thought was that the CGBitmapContext was not getting released and looked for a Monotouch equivalent of Objective C's CGContextRelease() function. The closest I could find was the CGBitmapContext instance method Dispose(), which I called, without solving the problem. In order to free up as much memory as possible (in case I was somehow running out of memory without tripping a warning), I tried forcing garbage collection each time I finished using a CGBitmapContext. This made the problem worse. Now the program would crash moments after displaying the spreadsheet the first time. This caused me to wonder whether the Garbage Collector was somehow collecting something necessary to the continued display of graphics on the screen. I would be grateful for any suggestions on further avenues to investigate for the cause of these crashes. I have included the source code for the SpreadsheetView class. The relevant method is DrawSpreadsheet(), which is called when the button is touched. Thank you for your assistance on this matter. Stephen Ashley public class SpreadsheetView : UIView { public ISpreadsheetMessenger spreadsheetMessenger = null; public UIScrollView cellsScrollView = null; public UIImageView cellsImageView = null; public SpreadsheetView(RectangleF frame) : base() { Frame = frame; • Core Audio - CARIngBuffer

    - by tech74
Hi, Im looking at using the CARingBuffer in iPhone SDK 3.1 Developer\Extras\CoreAudio\PublicUtility, however was a little puzzled about some of its methods. Firstly this will only make sense really to anyone who's used this class For example the GetTimebounds,SetTimeBounds, ClipTimeBounds functions what are these actually doing? Also when using it, i get crashes caused by example this method in the main Fetch method - ZeroABL(abl, 0, destStartOffset * mBytesPerFrame); CARingBufferError CARingBuffer::Fetch(AudioBufferList *abl, UInt32 nFrames, SampleTime startRead) { SampleTime endRead = startRead + nFrames; SampleTime startRead0 = startRead; SampleTime endRead0 = endRead; SampleTime size; CARingBufferError err = ClipTimeBounds(startRead, endRead); if (err) return err; size = endRead - startRead; SInt32 destStartOffset = startRead - startRead0; if (destStartOffset 0) { ZeroABL(abl, 0, destStartOffset * mBytesPerFrame); } Here the destStartOffset has become larger than the size of the abl Bufferlist so when a memset is done it exceeds the boundaries of the abl Bufferlist causing the crash. Why hasn't this class got checks in to prevent this.

"Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'keypath name not found in entity <NSSQLEntity Course id=2>'" Any ideas on how to resolve or troubleshoot?
