• Network.downloadfile is very slow

  I have tried using the My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile method but unfortunately it is slow. Executing the simple command below takes ~5-10 secs, which I would say is a lot longer than expected for downloading a 9 kb file. `My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile("http://www.google.dk", "j:\temp\test.html")` I am connecting via a high-speed connection (10GB) from a Win7 machine. Do anyone know of any explanations for this behavior? Hope that you can help me out with this. Kristoffer

  Maxmind offers a binary DAT file format for downloading their GeoIP database. http://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/database/GeoLiteCity.dat.gz Does anyone know how this has been packaged? Also, is there any kind of copy protection on the data? I'd like to offer up a set of data in a similar way. Anyone with any knowledge of this will receive my undying gratitude :-)

Since the client application is quite big in MB our wan will be utilized a lot.   I want to have a robot fetch a URL every hour, but if the site's operator is malicious he could have his server send me a 1 GB file. Is there a good way to limit downloading to, say, 100 KB and stop after that limit?   hey, tryingto run shutdown.exe -l -t 10 only showed shutdown help manual. I thought of unekegant but working solution of ping -n 10 localhost shutdown.exe -l How wasty is is that solution?
