  I want to do this exercise but I don't know exactly which method should I use for an exercise like this and what data will I use to test the algorithm. The driving distance between Perth and Adelaide is 1996 miles. On the average, the fuel consumption of a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder car is 8 litres per 100 kilometres. The fuel tank capacity of such a car is 60 litres. Design and implement a JAVA program that prompts for the fuel consumption and fuel tank capacity of the aforementioned car. The program then displays the minimum number of times the car’s fuel tank has to be filled up to drive from Perth to Adelaide. Note that 62 miles is equal to 100 kilometres. What data will you use to test that your algorithm works correctly?

  Hi, the players: 64bit linux with php 5 (ZendFramework 1.10.2) PostgreSQL 7.3 Doctrine 1.2 Via a Flash/Flex client i get an 8byte integer value. the field in the database is an BIGINT (8 byte) PHP_INT_SIZE show that system supports 8byte integer. printing out the value in the code as it is and as intval() leads to this: Plain: 1269452776100 intval: 1269452776099 float rounding failure ? but what really driving me nuts is ERROR: invalid input syntax for integer: "1269452776099.000000"' when i try to use it in a query. like: Doctrine_Core::getTable('table')->findBy('external_id',$external_id); or Doctrine_Core::getTable('table')->findBy('external_id',intval($external_id)); How i am supposed to handle this ? or how can i give doctrine a floating point number which it should use on a bigint field ? Any help is much appreciated! TIA

• asp.net FileUpload control problem: access to directory is denied

  Hi, Im trying to use the fileupload control. Im using Visual Web Developer Express on my desktop. My web application is working fine except I cant use the fileUpload control. I get the following error: ERROR: Access to the path (My_Directory) is denied I searched and it appears to be a permissions problem. So I attempted to add the user ASPNET and give appropriate permissions to the directory, however, I was unable to add user "ASPNET". User "ASPNET" was not found. So then I followed the following directions to add user ASPNET via Control Panel Administration Computer management. So now I was able to add user ASPNET to the directory and give appropriate permissions but I still got the above error. http://p2p.wrox.com/net-web-services/5918-creating-aspnet-user.html Any ideas on why I cant access the directory?

• Same query, different execution plans

  Hi, I am trying to find a solution for a problem that is driving me mad... I have a query which runs very fast in a QA Server but it is very slow in production. I realised that they have different execution plans... so I have try recompiling, cleanning the cache for the execution plans, update statistics, check the type of collation... but I still can't find what's going on... The databases where the query is running are exactly the same and the SQL Servers have also the same configuration. Any new ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks, A.

I am trying to show multiple presentation in a non fullscreen window, but havent been very successful so far. Ideally I want to be able to move this presentation windows around the screen.   Hey, Basically I've got some structs of type Ship which are going to go on a board which can have a variable width and height. The information about the ships is read in from a file, and I just need to know the best way to make sure that none of the ships overlap. Here is the structure of Ship: int x // x position of first part of ship int y // y position of first part of ship char dir // direction of the ship, either 'N','S','E' or 'W' int length // length of the ship Also, what would be a good way to handle the directions. Something cleaner than using a switch statement and using a different condition for each direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• CakePHP: Why does adding 'Security' component break my app?

  I have a strange problem -- of my own making -- that's cropped up, and is driving me crazy. At some point, I inadvertently destroyed a file in the app/tmp directory...I'm not sure which file. But now my app breaks when I include the "Security" component, and works just fine when it's not included. I'm thinking it might be related to the Security.salt value somehow, or possibly to the saved session info, but I don't really have a deep enough knowledge of CakePHP to figure it out. Can anyone offer any insight here?

  Hi, I've got a problem with type coercion in a Java/Hibernate/BlazeDS/Flex-Setup. First of all, my classes look like this: --- JAVA --- Interface I (Abstract) Class A implements I Class B extends A --- ActionScript --- Interface I Class A implements I Class B extends A I got RemoteClass-Meta-Tags in all ActionScript-Classes/Interfaces I, A and B. Package structure and Class/Interface names are exactly the same. Now here's the problem: My Java Service successfully retrieves objects of class B from my database via Hibernate. I got another class C which has a member property of interface type I, so it should be possible to assign an object of type B. But for some reason i get the following error message: TypeError: Error #1034: cannot convert Object@28b44a89 to package.name.I I checked the Java object type in the service and it is of type B and seems to be totally fine. Why can't the object of type B be assigned to a member variable of type I? This is driving me nuts. Thanks in advance.

  Driving me mad on a personal project; I know I've done this before but elsewhere and don't have the code. As far as I can see, I'm setting the parameter, I'm setting its value, the connection is open, yet when I try to fill the dataset I get the error 'Procedure or function expects parameter "@test" which was not supplied'. (This is obviously a simplified test! Same error on this or the real, rather longer code though.)   Hi, I am new to php. I thought I knew enough but apparently do not. I am trying to use the OAuth.php from code.google.com. So I include OAuth.php in my code. Here is my php file - index.php <?php print 'Hello1'; include 'test.php'; print 'Hello2'; include 'OAuth.php'; print 'Hello3'; ?> Here test.php, OAuth.php and index.php are all in the same directory. Amazingly enough, I see Hello1 and Hello2 but not Hello3. What am I missing. Its driving me crazy. Any help is greatly greatly appreciated. I am using php5 with apache 2.2 and also have the oauth.so module installed and loaded from php.net. SV

• Disabling single line copy in Visual Studio

  Is there anyway to disable the rather annoying feature that Visual Studio (2008 in my case) has of copying the line (with text on it) the cursor is on when CTRL-C is pressed and no selection is made? I know of the option to disable copying blank lines. But this is driving me crazy as well. ETA: I'm not looking to customize the keyboard shortcut. ETA-II: I am NOT looking for "Tools-Options-Text Editor-All Languages-Apply cut or copy to blank lines...".

• Blacklisting specific roads from Google Maps/Mapquest?

  I'm looking to build a custom view of a Google Maps type of application for providing directions, but I need to blacklist specific roads or sections of roads. I'm not talking just avoiding highways or Toll Roads. I've been looking through the Google Maps and Mapquest APIs but haven't found anything of use yet. Initially I'm just looking to manually blacklist specific roads that I do not want to drive on, but eventually would like there to be some sort of automatic detection or suggestion. Is there built-in functionality to support blacklisting specific roads in Google Maps or Mapquest? Or is there any known way to hack it together?

• Eclipse and Cassandra

  I've searched various websites for instructions on how to link 'Cassandra' and 'Eclipse' and followed directions to the last detail in several sites. For some reason, while using Git Bash, I cant get through the 'ant build', via instruction in said mentioned locations across the web. In some location's its easy, just make sure you have; 1. Apache Cassandra source 2. Apache Ant 3. Git So, yeah I've downloaded all the above, tried the same directory, different directories, etc., although still unable to get past the middle step of 'ant build'.   Can someone point me to where I can download English dictionary as a txt or xml file. I am building a simple app for myself and looking for something what I could start using immediately without learning complex API. Support for synonyms would be great, that is it should be easier to retrieve all the synonyms for particular word. It would be absolutely fantastic if dictionary would be listing British and American spelling of the words where they are differ. Even if it would be small dictionary (few 000's words) that's ok, I only need it for small project. I even would be willing to buy one if the price is reasonable, and dictionary is easy to use - simple xml wold be great. Any directions please.

  I have migrated a Web Application from MyEclipse to Eclipse WTP, and I am now in the middle of the first major upgrade to the code base and web pages after the migration, and it is frankly driving me mad that saving a JSP page causes a redeployment of the WHOLE application, as it takes time and that my backend connection does not survive the serialization-deserialization of the session object (which is non-trivial to fix). In addition to that the JSP-editor is insanely slow so I frequently have to pause to let the editor catch up to be certain where my edits go in a small JSP using JavaServer Faces. Disabling validation did not help. The Eclipse Dynamic Web Project depends on several library eclipse projects so I cannot just tell e.g. Jetty to use the WebRoot folder, as several dependencies are then missing from the classpath. The question is: Is there a way of working - ANY way of working - with the Eclipse WTP system that does NOT imply redeploying everything every time any file is saved? I can use Tomcat 5.5 or Jetty 6 as servers.

  So i am doing a research on how can i infer knowledge from reports (not with a specific format), but after pre processing, i should have some kind of formatted data. A fairly basic inference would be: "Retailer has X stock." and "X is sellable." - "Retailer sells X" the knowledge i focus is retail domain oriented, and if possible i should improve its efficiency with each iteration. Is this scifi(some of my friends think it is)? The related stuff i find online are "expert systems" that find anomalies, fuzzy inference systems and some rants about "easy knowledge". • Weird background offset of UIToolbar when in formSheet.

  As you can see in the pic, the buttons from the toolbar on the right align perfectly with the segmented control on the left. They are displayed on the navigation bar. For some reason though, the background of the toolbar seems to be offset 1px to the bottom. What is especially weird, is this exact same view controller, in fullScreen or even pageSheet, displays everything properly. Segmented control is being allocated: UISegmentedControl* segmentControl = [[UISegmentedControl alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,300,30)]; Toolbar is being allocated: UIToolbar* toolbar = [[UIToolbar alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 100,44)]; I've spent hours trying to fix this, it's driving me crazy.

  Hi all, first post here, I come in peace :) I've searched but can't quite find what I'm after. I am trying to manipulate the selected option of a select box. Can someone please explain why this works: $('#some_select_box').click(function() { $('#some_select_box option:selected').remove(); }); but this doesn't: $('#some_select_box').click(function() { $('this option:selected').remove(); }); I just want to use "this" instead of spelling out the id of the select box - can someone point me in the right direction for the correct syntax? It's driving me mad because it looks like it should be really simple. And I'm sure it is to someone, but not me, cos its the end of the day and I'm brain-fried... Any pointers much appreciated. • How do I get the current color of a fragment?

  I'm trying to wrap my head around shaders in GLSL, and I've found some useful resources and tutorials, but I keep running into a wall for something that ought to be fundamental and trivial: how does my fragment shader retrieve the color of the current fragment? You set the final color by saying gl_FragColor = whatever, but apparently that's an output-only value. How do you get the original color of the input so you can perform calculations on it? That's got to be in a variable somewhere, but if anyone out there knows its name, they don't seem to have recorded it in any tutorial or documentation that I've run across so far, and it's driving me up the wall.

  Has anyone here created a site or application that is ADA (Section 508) compliant? What features did your site/application support? One example is creating forms in Flash. The standards say that "When electronic forms are used, the form shall allow people using Assistive Technology to access the information, field elements, and functionality required for completion and submission of the form, including all directions and cues." Does Flash allow this? I guess you can build in your own tabbing and triggering voiceovers and such. Just wanted to get a sense of what people have done to tackle this issue.

  Hello world. My team is starting a brand new ASP.NET solution which will probably become large. Inspired by ASP.NET MVC, we currently express all data access objects in a model project. We, however, do not have good conventions for organizing ASP.NET ascx's and aspx's. We have already reviewed DotNetNuke and want to avoid the complexity of driving the whole application through a single default.aspx . What is the best way to organize a non-MVC ASP.NET solution?
