  • Comment out a python code block

    - by gbarry
    Is there any mechanism to comment out large blocks of Python code? Right now the only ways I can see of commenting out code are to either start every line with a #, or to enclose the code in """ (triple quotes), except that actually makes it show up in various doc tools. Edit--After reading the answers (and referring to the "duplicate"), I have concluded the correct answer is "No". One person said so, and the rest lectured us about editors. Not a bad thing, but I feel it's important to put the answer at the top.

  • Difference between Resume and Goto in error handling block

    - by Rich Oliver
    I understand that in the following example a Resume statement should be used instead of a Goto statement. Sub Method() On Error Goto ErrorHandler ... CleanUp: ... Exit Function ErrorHandler: Log error etc Err.Clear 'Is this line actually necessary?' Resume CleanUp 'SHOULD USE THIS' Goto CleanUp 'SHOULD NOT USE THIS' End Sub My question is what difference is there in the execution of the two?

  • delete multi-line block of text with internal flag in povray file

    - by Sibo Lin
    I have a pov-ray file, which defines a lot of cylinders and spheres. Sometimes these shapes are defined to have "color@", which makes the povray unrenderable. One solution I've found is to delete the offending cylinders and spheres. So a file that contains this text cylinder { < -0.17623, 0.24511, -0.27947>, < -0.15220, 0.22658, -0.26472>, 0.00716 texture { colorO } } sphere { < -0.00950, 0.00357, 0.00227>, 0.00716 texture { color@ } } cylinder { < -0.00950, 0.00357, 0.00227>, < 0.00327, 0.00169, 0.00108>, 0.00716 texture { color@ } } sphere { < 0.15373, 0.00601, 0.18223>, 0.00716 texture { colorO } } would turn into this text cylinder { < -0.17623, 0.24511, -0.27947>, < -0.15220, 0.22658, -0.26472>, 0.00716 texture { colorO } } sphere { < 0.15373, 0.00601, 0.18223>, 0.00716 texture { colorO } } Is there some way to do this replacement with a shell script? Preferably in tcsh. Thanks!

  • Java init method

    - by Johan Sjöberg
    What's a good way to make sure an init method is invoked in java? The alternatives I see are Don't test it, let the method fail by itself, likely by a NullPointerException Test if method was initialized or throw public void foo() { if (!inited) { throw new IllegalArgumentException("not initalized"); } ... } Delagate public void foo() { if (!inited) { throw new IllegalArgumentException("not initalized"); } fooInternal(); } private void fooInternal(){ ... }; Always init, and make init a noop otherwise public void foo() { init(); ... } public void init() { if(!inited) { ... } } Silently init public void foo() { if (!inited) { init(); } ... } Most of these approaches are very verbose and decreases overall readability.

  • How to make an AJAX call immediately on document loading

    - by Ankur
    I want to execute an ajax call as soon as a document is loaded. What I am doing is loading a string that contains data that I will use for an autocomplete feature. This is what I have done, but it is not calling the servlet. I have removed the calls to the various JS scripts to make it clearer. I have done several similar AJAX calls in my code but usually triggered by a click event, I am not sure what the syntax for doing it as soon as the document loads, but I thought this would be it (but it's not): <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "AutoComplete", dataType: 'json', data: queryString, success: function(data) { var dataArray = data; alert(dataArray); } }); $("#example").autocomplete(dataArray); }); </script> <title></title> </head> <body> API Reference: <form><input id="example"> (try "C" or "E")</form> </body> </html>

  • Is it safe to call a function to intialize a class in a ctor list?

    - by Michael Dorgan
    I have Angle class that I want initialized to a random value. The Angle constructor can accept an int from a random() function. Is it safe to place this call in the ctor list: foo::foo() : Angle(random(0xFFFF)) {...} or do I have to do it in the body of the constructor? foo::foo() { Angle = Angle(random(0xFFFF)); ...} If it matters, the foo class is derived from another class and does have virtual methods. In addition, no exception handling is allowed in our app.

  • How are Flash library symbols constructed? Why are width/height already available in constructor?

    - by Triynko
    Suppose I draw a square on the stage, convert it to a symbol, export it for ActionScript with a classname of "MySquare" (and of course a base class of MovieClip). How is it that in the MySquare constructor, the width and height of this MovieClip are already available? In fact, any named instances in the clip are also available. I'm confused about how the Flash player seems to be able to pre-construct my movie clip by populating its properties and child clips before my constructor for the class ever runs. I thought that it would have to first construct the clip, calling my constructor code, and then construct and add any children, but obviously the player is doing something special for clips designed in the Flash authoring environment.

  • Constructor within a constructor

    - by Chiramisu
    Is this a bad idea? Does calling a generic private constructor within a public constructor create multiple instances, or is this a valid way of initializing class variables? Private Class MyClass Dim _msg As String Sub New(ByVal name As String) Me.New() 'Do stuff End Sub Sub New(ByVal name As String, ByVal age As Integer) Me.New() 'Do stuff End Sub Private Sub New() 'Initializer constructor Me._msg = "Hello StackOverflow" 'Initialize other variables End Sub End Class

  • Doubt about instance creation by using Spring framework ???

    - by Arthur Ronald F D Garcia
    Here goes a command object which needs to be populated from a Spring form public class Person { private String name; private Integer age; /** * on-demand initialized */ private Address address; // getter's and setter's } And Address public class Address { private String street; // getter's and setter's } Now suppose the following MultiActionController @Component public class PersonController extends MultiActionController { @Autowired @Qualifier("personRepository") private Repository<Person, Integer> personRepository; /** * mapped To /person/add */ public ModelAndView add(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response, Person person) throws Exception { personRepository.add(person); return new ModelAndView("redirect:/home.htm"); } } Because Address attribute of Person needs to be initialized on-demand, i need to override newCommandObject to create an instance of Person to initiaze address property. Otherwise, i will get NullPointerException @Component public class PersonController extends MultiActionController { /** * code as shown above */ @Override public Object newCommandObject(Class clazz) thorws Exception { if(clazz.isAssignableFrom(Person.class)) { Person person = new Person(); person.setAddress(new Address()); return person; } } } Ok, Expert Spring MVC and Web Flow says Options for alternate object creation include pulling an instance from a BeanFactory or using method injection to transparently return a new instance. First option pulling an instance from a BeanFactory can be written as @Override public Object newCommandObject(Class clazz) thorws Exception { /** * Will retrieve a prototype instance from ApplicationContext whose name matchs its clazz.getSimpleName() */ getApplicationContext().getBean(clazz.getSimpleName()); } But what does he want to say by using method injection to transparently return a new instance ??? Can you show how i implement what he said ??? ATT: I know this funcionality can be filled by a SimpleFormController instead of MultiActionController. But it is shown just as an example, nothing else

  • Regex: match a non nested code block

    - by Sylvanas Garde
    I am currently writing a small texteditor. With this texteditor users are able to create small scripts for a very simple scripting engine. For a better overview I want to highlight codeblocks with the same command like GoTo(x,y) or Draw(x,y). To achieve this I want to use Regular Expresions (I am already using it to highlight other things like variables) Here is my Expression (I know it's very ugly): /(?<!GoTo|Draw|Example)(^(?:GoTo|Draw|Example)\(.+\)*?$)+(?!GoTo|Draw|Example)/gm It matches the following: lala GoTo(5656) -> MATCH 1 sdsd GoTo(sdsd) --comment -> MATCH 2 GoTo(23329); -> MATCH 3 Test() GoTo(12) -> MATCH 4 LALA Draw(23) -> MATCH 5 Draw(24) -> MATCH 6 Draw(25) -> MATCH 7 But what I want to achieve is, that the complete "blocks" of the same command are matched. In this case Match 2 & 4 and Match 5 & 6 & 7 should be one match. Tested with http://regex101.com/, the programming lanuage is vb.net. Any advise would be very useful, Thanks in advance!

  • coffee scrip layzy function implementation

    - by bbz
    I would like to something like this in JavaScript var init = function () { // do some stuff once var once = true // overwrite the function init = function () { console.log(once) } } CoffeeScript adds another local var init to the initial init so the second init doesn't overwrite the first one var init = function () { var init //automatically declared by coffeescript // do some stuff once var once = true // overwrite the function init = function () { console.log(once) } } Some tips for solutions / workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

  • Setting default values for inherited property without using accessor in Objective-C?

    - by Ben Stock
    I always see people debating whether or not to use a property's setter in the -init method. I don't know enough about the Objective-C language yet to have an opinion one way or the other. With that said, lately I've been sticking to ivars exclusively. It seems cleaner in a way. I don't know. I digress. Anyway, here's my problem … Say we have a class called Dude with an interface that looks like this: @interface Dude : NSObject { @private NSUInteger _numberOfGirlfriends; } @property (nonatomic, assign) NSUInteger numberOfGirlfriends; @end And an implementation that looks like this: @implementation Dude - (instancetype)init { self = [super init]; if (self) { _numberOfGirlfriends = 0; } } @end Now let's say I want to extend Dude. My subclass will be called Playa. And since a playa should have mad girlfriends, when Playa gets initialized, I don't want him to start with 0; I want him to have 10. Here's Playa.m: @implementation Playa - (instancetype)init { self = [super init]; if (self) { // Attempting to set the ivar directly will result in the compiler saying, // "Instance variable `_numberOfGirlfriends` is private." // _numberOfGirlfriends = 10; <- Can't do this. // Thus, the only way to set it is with the mutator: self.numberOfGirlfriends = 10; // Or: [self setNumberOfGirlfriends:10]; } } @end So what's a Objective-C newcomer to do? Well, I mean, there's only one thing I can do, and that's set the property. Unless there's something I'm missing. Any ideas, suggestions, tips, or tricks? Sidenote: The other thing that bugs me about setting the ivar directly — and what a lot of ivar-proponents say is a "plus" — is that there are no KVC notifications. A lot of times, I want the KVC magic to happen. 50% of my setters end in [self setNeedsDisplay:YES], so without the notification, my UI doesn't update unless I remember to manually add -setNeedsDisplay. That's a bad example, but the point stands. I utilize KVC all over the place, so without notifications, things can act wonky. Anyway, any info is much appreciated. Thanks!

  • How to Initialise a static Map in Java

    - by fahdshariff
    How would you initialise a static Map in Java? Method one: Static initialiser Method two: instance initialiser (anonymous subclass) or some other method? What are the pros and cons of each? Here is an example illustrating two methods: import java.util.HashMap; import java.util.Map; public class Test { private static final Map<Integer, String> myMap = new HashMap<Integer, String>(); static { myMap.put(1, "one"); myMap.put(2, "two"); } private static final Map<Integer, String> myMap2 = new HashMap<Integer, String>(){ { put(1, "one"); put(2, "two"); } }; }

  • Copying pointers in C++

    - by tunnuz
    Hello, I have a class A containing two pointers to objects of another class B. I want to initialize one pointer or the other depending on which one is passed to init(), which also takes other parameters. My situation is thus the following: class A { public: A(); init(int parameter, int otherParameter, B* toBeInitialized); protected: B* myB; B* myOtherB; }; Now my point is that I want to call init() as: init(640, 480, this->myB); or init(640, 480, this->myOtherB); Now, my init is implemented as: void init( int parameter, int otherParameter, B* toBeInitialized ) { toBeInitialized = someConstructorFunction(parameter, otherParameter); } The problem is that the two pointers are not initialized, I suspect that toBeInitialized is overwritten, but the original parameter is not modified. I am doing something wrong? Should I use references to pointers? Thank you Tommaso

  • In Perl, how can I wait for threads to end in parallel?

    - by Pmarcoen
    I have a Perl script that launches 2 threads,one for each processor. I need it to wait for a thread to end, if one thread ends a new one is spawned. It seems that the join method blocks the rest of the program, therefore the second thread can't end until everything the first thread does is done which sort of defeats its purpose. I tried the is_joinable method but that doesn't seem to do it either. Here is some of my code : use threads; use threads::shared; @file_list = @ARGV; #Our file list $nofiles = $#file_list + 1; #Real number of files $currfile = 1; #Current number of file to process my %MSG : shared; #shared hash $thr0 = threads->new(\&process, shift(@file_list)); $currfile++; $thr1 = threads->new(\&process, shift(@file_list)); $currfile++; while(1){ if ($thr0->is_joinable()) { $thr0->join; #check if there are files left to process if($currfile <= $nofiles){ $thr0 = threads->new(\&process, shift(@file_list)); $currfile++; } } if ($thr1->is_joinable()) { $thr1->join; #check if there are files left to process if($currfile <= $nofiles){ $thr1 = threads->new(\&process, shift(@file_list)); $currfile++; } } } sub process{ print "Opening $currfile of $nofiles\n"; #do some stuff if(some condition){ lock(%MSG); #write stuff to hash } print "Closing $currfile of $nofiles\n"; } The output of this is : Opening 1 of 4 Opening 2 of 4 Closing 1 of 4 Opening 3 of 4 Closing 3 of 4 Opening 4 of 4 Closing 2 of 4 Closing 4 of 4

  • Clearing block affects wrong floating

What should I do to get correct position of main content?

  • UNIX pipes on C block on read

    - by Toni Cárdenas
    I'm struggling to implement a shell with pipelines for class. typedef struct { char** cmd; int in[2]; int out[2]; } cmdio; cmdio cmds[MAX_PIPE + 1]; Commands in the pipeline are read and stored in cmds. cmdio[i].in is the pair of file descriptors of the input pipe returned by pipe(). For the first command, which reads from terminal input, it is just {fileno(stdin), -1}. cmdin[i].outis similar for the output pipe/terminal output. cmdio[i].in is the same as cmd[i-1].out. For example: $ ls -l | sort | wc CMD: ls -l IN: 0 -1 OUT: 3 4 CMD: sort IN: 3 4 OUT: 5 6 CMD: wc IN: 5 6 OUT: -1 1 We pass each command to process_command, which does a number of things: for (cmdi = 0; cmds[cmdi].cmd != NULL; cmdi++) { process_command(&cmds[cmdi]); } Now, inside process_command: if (!(pid_fork = fork())) { dup2(cmd->in[0], fileno(stdin)); dup2(cmd->out[1], fileno(stdout)); if (cmd->in[1] >= 0) { if (close(cmd->in[1])) { perror(NULL); } } if (cmd->out[0] >= 0) { if (close(cmd->out[0])) { perror(NULL); } } execvp(cmd->cmd[0], cmd->cmd); exit(-1); } The problem is that reading from the pipe blocks forever: COMMAND $ ls | wc Created pipe, in: 5 out: 6 Foreground pid: 9042, command: ls, Exited, info: 0 [blocked running read() within wc] If, instead of exchanging the process with execvp, I just do this: if (!(pid_fork = fork())) { dup2(cmd->in[0], fileno(stdin)); dup2(cmd->out[1], fileno(stdout)); if (cmd->in[1] >= 0) { if (close(cmd->in[1])) { perror(NULL); } } if (cmd->out[0] >= 0) { if (close(cmd->out[0])) { perror(NULL); } } char buf[6]; read(fileno(stdin), buf, 5); buf[5] = '\0'; printf("%s\n", buf); exit(0); } It happens to work: COMMAND $ cmd1 | cmd2 | cmd3 | cmd4 | cmd5 Pipe creada, in: 11 out: 12 Pipe creada, in: 13 out: 14 Pipe creada, in: 15 out: 16 Pipe creada, in: 17 out: 18 hola!
