  • How can I exceed the 60% Memory Limit of IIS7 in ASP.NET Caching application

    Pardon if this is more serverfault vs. stackoverflow. It seems to be on the border. We have an application that caches a large amount of product data for an e-commerce application using ASP.NET caching. This is a dictionary object with 65K elements, and our calculations put the object's size at ~10GB. Problem: The amount of memory the object consumes seems to be far in excess of our 10GB calculation. BIGGEST CONCERN: We can't seem to use over 60% of the 32GB in the server. What we've tried so far: In machine.config/system.web (sf doesn't allow the tags, pardon the formatting): processModel autoConfig="true" memoryLimit="80" In web.config/system.web/caching/cache (sf doesn't allow the tags, pardon the formatting): privateBytesLimit = "20000000000" (and 0, the default of course) percentagePhysicalMemoryUsedLimit = "90" Environment: Windows 2008R2 x64 32GB RAM IIS7 Nothing seems to allow us to exceed the 60% value.     Hello, I'm going to implement a (simple) downloader application in Java as a personal exercise. It is going to run several jobs in different threads, in a way that I will be downloading a few files at the same time at all times during execution. I want to be able to define a download rate limit that is shared between all the download jobs, but I don't know how to do it even for a single download task. How should I go about doing this?     In one statement I'm trying to group rows of one table by joining to another table. I want to only get grouped rows where their grouped result is not empty. Ex. Items and Categories SELECT Category.id FROM Item, Category WHERE Category.id = Item.categoryId GROUP BY Category.id HAVING COUNT(Item.id) > 0 The above query gives me the results that I want but this is slow, since it has to count all the rows grouped by Category.id. What's a more effecient way? I was trying to do a Group By LIMIT to only retrieve one row per group. But my attempts failed horribly. Any idea how I can do this? Thanks

  • Growing the size of a VM's disk in VMware

    I have a VM that I originally gave 10 GB to (using VMware workstation, and Ubuntu 11.10 is the guest OS). I now wish to add to that. I have seen the option to expand the disk size, but all that does is create a new "partition" that Ubuntu can see. Is there a way to expand the size of the primary partition that the guest OS is using? NOTE: I have seen something regarding doing this for a regular Ubunbu OS that requires a boot disk. Is there a way that I can apply that to this VM case? Using Windows 7 64-bit as the host OS EDIT: To be clear, I am trying to resize the boot partition. Edit 2: GParted's resize option is greyed out.

    My father-in-law recently picked up an iMac (with OS X 10.7 - Lion) and loves it. However, his eyesight isn't that great and would like to find a way to increase the font size of the system menu bar like he could on his old Windows system. I've been unable to find anything in the system configuration that might work. I've heard that the TinkerTool might be able to do it, but I'm a little hesitant to monkey around with his system - I don't want to introduce system stability issues. Question: Has anyone been able to find any good way to increase the system menu font size?

  • Fix superblock size after dd?

    I've recently installed Linux Mint 11, and somehow my partition table ended up so that both it and the unallocated space for Windows 7 were inside an extended partition, which Windows didn't like when I tried to install. So, because I had spent a few hours configuring Mint already, I backed it up to my external hard drive using dd. I have restored it to the new partition I made for Mint, but new the partition isn't the same size as the one I dd'd from, so I'm getting yelled at for having a bad superblock size. Is there any way that I can fix this while keeping the new, smaller partition? -Trey

  • Increased CF JVM max heap size and now CF service will not start

    So I went in to ColdFusion Administrator and increased my CF JVM max heap size, then I was told I would need to restart the service, so I stopped the service, and then tried to start it again and got the following error message: Windows could not start the ColdFusion 8 Application Server on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 2. So I went to the Event Viewer application, then took a look at the Application log and saw an error that said: The ColdFusion 8 Application Server service could not be started. Check the server "coldfusion" log files for more information. So I went to my ColdFusion logs directory opened the server.log log file and I don't see anything useful in there or any of the other log files.. Any idea how I can change the JVM heap size back to what it was so that I can start CF again?

    How could I resize or reprocess bunch of videofiles (tv show series) to be able write it on DVD? Total size of all files should be less or equal to the max size of dvd - 4.7G. Is there any kind of program which allows conversion with total filesize adjustement up to defined limit? Is there way to be sure quality will not suffer noticeably after video files adjustments? Maybe there is a software which allows adjusting quality and creating DVD video disk with nifty menu automatically? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    I've been reading a lot about java memory management, garbage collecting et al and I'm trying to find the best settings for my limited memory (1.7g on a small ec2 instance) I'm wondering if there is a direct correlation between my code size and the permgen setting. According to sun: The permanent generation is special because it holds data needed by the virtual machine to describe objects that do not have an equivalence at the Java language level. For example objects describing classes and methods are stored in the permanent generation. To me this means that it's literally storing my class def'ns etc... Does this mean there is a direct correlation between my compiled code size and the permgen I should be setting? My whole app is about 40mb and i noticed we're using 256mb permgen. I'm thinking maybe we're using memory that could be better allocated to dynamic code like object instances etc...

    I have a drive partitioned so it is seen by Windows as 2 drives: C:\ and D:\ Windows7 shows D:\ as full up in the graphical summary in 'My Computer' summary of all the drives, e.g. the bar graph indicates full and nearly all of the drive's capacity, 108Gb, is full. So I go into the D:\ drive to look at the files, I see several folders. I select them all and the right click menu Properties to count their size, expecting the value to be about the same as what Windows reports in the summary, i.e. nearly 108Gb. But the properties shows the files are very small, Kbs and Mbs, nowhere near 108Gbs. One of the folders is a backup, but its size is very small. I've checked the folder options to show all system files and hidden files too - and counted these in the properties. Something invisible is holding the space. What is happening here? I'm afraid to delete anything if it removes valuable backups. Have I got huge backups here? Why can't I see them? How do I see them?

    Hello, I have run bonnie++ v1.96 on two different servers without any additional load. One server is a "physical" Dell server with 32GB RAM, the other one is a virtual instance with 14GB RAM. I have read in the bonnie manuals that I should use two times the size of RAM in my bonnie runs, so I used 64GB on the physical machine and 28GB on the virtual machine. Now I want to compare the results, and I am wondering whether the results are comparable at all. The most interesting part is the latency part - on the physical machine, the values are about 10 times higher than on the virtual machine! Can I take these results seriously (e.g. the virtual machine HD is much much faster) or does the different RAM size tamper the results? Thanks! Jonas

    Does anyone know how to either: Make ffmpeg set subtitle font size in the output video file Make mencoder produce an iPhone-compatible video file (with subtitles) I finally found out how to get Closed Captions video on iPhone, with mkv and srt files as source material. The secret was using the mov_text subtitle codec in ffmpeg (and turning on Closed Captions in the iPhone settings of course): ffmpeg -y -i in.mkv -i in.srt -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map 1:0 -vcodec copy -acodec aac -ab 256k -scodec mov_text -strict -2 -metadata title="Title" -metadata:s:s:0 language=eng out.mp4 However, the font size appears very small on the iPhone, and I can't find out how to set it with ffmpeg (the iPhone has no option for this). I found out that mencoder has a -subfont-text-scale option, but I don't have a lot of experience with this program.   • How to upgrade a single instance's size without downtime

    I'm afraid there may not be a way to do this since we're not load balancing, but I'd like to know if there is any way to upgrade an EC2 EBS backed instance to a larger size without downtime. First of all, we have everything on one instance: both our app and our database (mongodb). This is along the lines i'm thinking: I know you can create snapshots of your EBS and an AMI of your instance. We already have an AMI and we create hourly snapshots. If I spin up a new separate instance of a larger size and then implement (not sure what the right term is here) the snapshots so that our database is up to date, then I could switch the A record of our domain from the old ip address to the new one. However, I'm afraid that after copying over the data from the snapshot, by the time it takes to change the A record and have that change propagate, the data could potentially be stale. Is there a way to prevent this, and is there a better way to do this than I am suggesting?

  • Printer Properties not sending the correct page size to program

    We have a Zebra 2844 Label Printer with 4"x3" labels in it. When we check the page settings in Windows XP, it is set to the correct size. When we go to print out of any program, it prints 4"x11". I have checked the page settings in one of the programs that we are using and it does show correctly the 4"x3" settings but prints at the incorrect 4"x11". I have followed the steps here Paper size: Printer Properties vs Page Setup and here Is there a way to programatically set the printer properties in windows? but have not been able to glean enough information to figure it out. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it!

    Im making a mobile phone Android application in Flash CS 5.5. I set the width/height of the stage to 480/800 px. When I hit CTRL+ENTER to test run the application I get a window that is 480/800 px. It cannot be resized. I want to change the size of that window WITHOUT changing the stage width/height. For example if I run the APK on a mobile phone with a 1000x1000 display the flash will scale automatically to fit the 480/800 stage to the 1000x1000 screen. So it should be possible to change the window size to 1000x1000 without having to change the stage width/height. But how?

    I've just upgraded my Windows 7 machine from 12GB to 24GB - both for running more VMs and for future proofing. My C driver is an SSD with 129GB formatted size. I was surprised to find out that the SSD only has 68GB free (most of my files are on D: to G:). Researching I found 24GB of my precious C: SSD are taken for virtual memory. So - do I need such large amounts of virtual memory when I have 24GB or RAM? I bought this size of memory so I"d not have to go to disk...

    I'm currently running a bukkit (minecraft) server which generates a server.log file with all the console messages / errors. Every now and then I have a plugin (which i need) that crashes and can cause the server.log file size to increase dramatically. I've had it hit 32GB before which used all my disk space. Is there a way to make it a rolling log (deletes old errors) or be able to limit the file size so it can't go above say 10MB. But the solution needs to not affect how the server runs so it doesn't throw an error when it can't write anymore. Anyway of doing this with CentOS?

  • Get Directory Size through SFTP

    A client has a managed websever; on this server is an e-commerce script and part of the script dumps a backup every week. The backup is stored on the web server (not in the HTTP route). The ISP takes a copy, and my clients wants to take a copy too. What I am trying to do is before downloading the file I want to be able to calculate the backup directory size - but the only access I have is through SFTP. Is it possible to easily get the directory size and then use this in a PowerShell Script. NOTE: I have written an automatic download script in Powershell, and I want to extend this. Forgive me if this sounds vague I can provide further info if you have any specific questions.
