• Packet dropped even when firewall is turned off in windows server 2008

  We have a windows 2008 server and lately we have started seeing a lot of 5152 Events logged in the server (Windows Filtering Platform blocked a packet). We have an inbound rule configured to allow connections to the port which was working fine earlier. I'm not sure what changed lately. But this doesn't make any sense. The packet is dropped even when windows firewall is disabled. What am I missing?

• Evolution on Fedora w/ X - Setup Assistant?

  Very odd... logged in to my dev machine this morning and Evolution mail client's "Setup Assistant" pops up as though I hadn't been actively using Evolution as my primary mail client for the past six months?!?! Am googling for answer and hearing of the random person who has had something similar happen, but as of yet I've been unable to find discussions where a cause and/or fix was discovered. Any ideas?

When the stop event occured I was logged in via RDP but I don't remember and clicks in IIS Manager...:( there are no error messages in event viewer

  We have a test server running Windows Server 2008 R2 that I want to put SQL Server 2008 onto. I have an MSDN subscription and thought I could install (x64 version) SQL2008 but the installation warned me this wasn't compatible with this version of windows (reporting that I am running Windows 7). When I log onto my MSDN to download an update the only SQL Server R2 options I have are for Express edition or Enterprise evaluation (I am logged in to subscriber downloads). Is there no standard R2 edition or am I missing something?

• Accessibility tools turn ON on boot screen EVERY TIME

  Hello, I wanted to do a joke to my teacher : When she left, she logged out and i set up all the accessibility tools (color blind, narrator.....) When she came back, she turn off her computer by letting the POWER button pushed. Ever since, each time she turns on the computer, all the accessibilty tools came up even if she DISABLES it each time. (@windows 7) Any solution before she kills me or i get fired from the school ? =o Thanks

  Hello, The ISAPI_REWRITE Helicon product does not log anything... I setup logging to run as: [ISAPI_Rewrite] RewriteEngine on #enabling rewrite.log RewriteLogLevel 9 #enabling error.log LogLevel debug But nothing is getting logged. Is it something I'm doing, is it working? It is installed, it's given high priority in IIS (do see it visibly present). Any ideas why it isn't logging? Should it log even if not rewriting?

Will it mess with everyone's connection if I do the update while they are logged on?   Vista machine: When I switch users I get a black screen for 30+ seconds. Doesn't seem to matter who is logged in. Delay happens when I click "switch user" but not when I lock the screen and log back in as same user. Specs: Windows Vista 64-bit; HP pavilion dv9710t laptop; 17" screen (best guess is that it has something to do with display settings, not sure)

  Quick question: I have a situation where I need to let multiple people on different PCs log into one server 2008 machine as administrator simultaneously over remote desktop. I have the CALs for it, it's just not set up correctly. When one user tries to log in, it boots the other out. What I need is to present to them a different session, just each as logged in as admin.   Hello, I am trying to make it so my apache web pages will be in a chroot jail. I have set up my chroot jail as according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ModChroot. However when i restart apache i get the following error logged: [error] No such file or directory: could not create /var/chroot/apache/var/run/apache2.pid [error] apache2: could not log pid to file /var/chroot/apache/var/run/apache2.pid /var/chroot/apache/var/run/apache2.pid is there with 777 permissions If i dissable mod_chroot web pages are delivered correctly from the /var/chroot/apache/var/www directory.

• McAfee Security Scan appears out of thin air

  Hi, We have a Windows Server 2008 Standard edition server and when we logged in today a service, McAfee Security Scan, had been installed. I checked all the logs, but can't find any trace of who or how this install was initiated. We already use Nod32 so there would be no reason for us to install McAfee. Any idea how this happens?   Running apache on rhel server and sometimes I need to delete some files that I can not using my FTP program, because the FTP account I am logged into is not the apache user. I am on a Mac and there must be a way to accomplish this via terminal by either SSH'ing into the server. • Smss.exe - setting any core affinity breaks rdp on Windows 7 / Windows Server 2012

  I have tried to set core affinity of smss.exe to not run on one critical core on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008r2. It turns out that simply setting the core affinity to anything (even the full mask that smss.exe already has) seems to work but prevents users from rdp'ing into the machine until it is restarted. The users already logged in may continue to use their sessions. This behaviour does not occur on Windows 8/Windows Server 2012. Does anyone know why it is happening?

Occasionally the IT team need to access users documents in order to merge folders together (Due to staff leaving) or need to access documents that have been lost. Even though we are logged in as the Administrator, we are unable to access users documents. Is there any way to modify the settings for all users, that will enable us to access users documents? • nginx: how do I track down a random 500 from nginx (not my application). Potentially has something to do with load?

  We recently had some 500's from nginx itself that somehow were not logged (we have screenshots, but nothing in the logs). That is weird in itself, because usually errors show up there. Regardless, I am wondering if there is something like a connection pool size that if maxed out would result in a 500? We have correlated it potentially to a recent spike in traffic, but it is not conclusive. Anyone have any ideas of how to begin to approach such an issue?

  Does anybody here know of a decent setup for having multiple computers and devices (iPhone/Android) logged into the same IM accounts (yahoo, gtalk, AIM) with consolidated web-based chat logs? I've tried/thought of a few approaches: IRC w/ IRSSI and bitlbee (was nice, but not a great solution for phones and chat logs were painful) Google Talk (would be great if I could just use this, but I need to support Yahoo - perhaps a Jabber relay?)
