  • Setting XTick or XLabels for a plot containing millisecond data

    I am trying to set the X-Axis labels on a plot. I have a vector of times, these go down to the millisecond level. I have tried setting both XTick and XTickLabel properties but things are not working correctly (labels are not valid). Any suggestions on what one needs to do to get datetick to work when working with times that go down to the second/millisecond level? Are there any alternatives to using datetick? Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Quoted from here: BW = edge(I,'zerocross',thresh,h) specifies the zero-cross method, using the filter h. thresh is the sensitivity threshold; if the argument is empty ([]), edge chooses the sensitivity threshold automatically. If you specify a threshold of 0, the output image has closed contours, because it includes all the zero crossings in the input image. I don't understand it,can someone elaborate?

  • Evenly distribute range of specified values within a vector

    I have a vector A and I want to populate it with values as evenly as possible. For example, if A is 1x30 and I want to use three values I would use a code like this below: % A = zeros(1,30); A([1:10])=0; A([11:20])=1; A([21:30])=2; This works, but seems a bit cumbersome to me. Is there a more elegant way to evenly (as possible) distribute a specified range of values within a vector? I am intent on keeping each of the values in "clumps." Thank you kindly in advance.

    I have a mesh grid defined as [X, Y, Z] = meshgrid(-100:100, -100:100, 25); % z will have more values later and two shapes (ovals, in this case): x_offset_1 = 40; x_offset_2 = -x_offset_1; o1 = ((X-x_offset_1).^2./(2*Z).^2+Y.^2./Z.^2 <= 1); o2 = ((X-x_offset_2).^2./(2*Z).^2+Y.^2./Z.^2 <= 1); Now, I want to find all points that are nonzero in either oval. I tried union = o1+o2; but since I simply add them, the overlapping region will have a value of 2 instead of the desired 1. How can I set all nonzero entries in the matrix to 1, regardless of their previous value? (I tried normalized_union = union./union;, but then I end up with NaN in all 0 elements because I'm dividing by zero...) Follow-up question: I got a perfect answer to my original question, but now I have a follow-up question on the same problem. I'm going to define a filled disc, c = (X.^2+Y.^2<R^2) that will also overlap with the two ovals. How do I find all the points that are inside the circle, but not inside any of the ovals?

    I'm trying to read in a large number of jpg files using a for loop. But for some reason, the k index is not advancing. I just get A as a 460x520x3 uint8. Am I missing something? My goal with this code is to convert all the jpg images to the same size.     Every few seconds our new Cisco ASA 5505 firewall is logging errors that I can't figure out with my limited Cisco experience. Severity Date Time Syslog ID Source IP Destination IP Description 3 Mar 25 2010 17:21:14 305006 8.8.8.8 regular translation creation failed for icmp src inside:10.10.0.200 dst outside:8.8.8.8 (type 3, code 3) 3 Mar 25 2010 17:18:37 305006 8.8.4.4 regular translation creation failed for icmp src inside:10.10.0.200 dst outside:8.8.4.4 (type 3, code 3) The logged inside IP is our internal DNS resolver, and the outside IP's are Google's public DNS servers. ICMP Type 3 Code 3 means "Port Unreachable" Our "outside" interface has a fixed IP and our "inside" interface is in the 10.10.0.0/16 subnet. The 'Inspect DNS' Service Policy is enabled, with the preset DNS inspection map. Furthermore there's an ACL that allows all inbound ICMP on the "outside" interface. I've spent hours trying to figure this one out, so any and all advice is welcome!

    I'm on a project of liver tumor segmentation and classification. I used Region Growing and FCM for liver and tumor segmentation respectively. Then, I used Gray Level Co-occurence matrix for texture feature extraction. I have to use Support Vector Machine for Classification. But I don't know how to normalize the feature vectors. Can anyone tell how to program it in Matlab? To the GLCM program, I gave the tumor segmented image as input. Was I correct? If so, I think, then, my output will also be correct.   • I can't figure out how to run ubuntu .iso from thumbdrive?

    I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04.1 and I can't find a solid way to run it from the disk version of Ubuntu 11.04 for a clean install. I think the hard drive is messed up, or else I would install 11.04, but it won't work. So I wanna install 12.04.1 from a thumbdrive, so I can actually use this computer without using the demo and installing everything when it dies, or shuts off... Please help? I want to make it at least bootable from a thumbdrive, just so I can lightly browse the internet and what not... it doesn't have to be a hard install.

This makes me have to hold the power button until the system shuts down. One setting difference I have from most people is, I don't use the option that lets you suspend when the laptop lid is closed. So opening and closing the laptop lid has no actions. I like to press suspend manually. Could this preference change be the cause? How can I start looking for what's causing the crash, since the crash doesn't display errors?

We are wondering how to find out which keyword is causing this? We are monitoring all important keywords for our website. None of keyword is in first 5, so our "organic" serach traffic is modest. However, today we received 200% increase of "organic" search traffic but none of keywords we can think of moved a bit. We also did not change anything related to SEO. And what is interesting Google Webmaster shows no changes - ~2500 impressions and ~200 clicks. How to find out which "keyword" might be causing this spike?

    I have an IT background and was pretty confident until an opportunity came up at work to go into programming(C#). I have never programmed before this, and the software I am programming for is a program I have never used before (a 3D modeling software). It has been 6 months since then and I feel like giving up. I didn't get much training... about 3 weeks of training spread out over the last 6 months. I think I would be good at programming but this experience is kinda making me rethink my decision. I'm not sure if it's just me, or if this frustration is normal. How can I tell if programming is right for me?

  • How expensive to run PC 24/7 or how to figure out how to determine it?

    I realize this question is difficult to answer as it would be different based on users location, what there PC is doing and what hardware it consist of, along with other factors but I am hoping someone could give me a very rough estimate. I have always ran many PC's in my home 24/7 and I am just now looking at it from a money/cost of electric point of view. 1) I live in Central Florida. Can anyone guesstomate/estimate the avaerage monthly or daily cost of running your average PC? Intel quad core processor, 1 SSD drive for OS and programs and 4-5 1-2 TB hard drives in a RAID setup for data. 750watt PSU. What would your guess be? 2) Also is there an accurate way to figure this out (non-super technical and confusing to a non-math person please) Also I have seen those kill-a-watt devices, do they figure this kind of stuff out for you? 3) Does a larger PSU make your PC consume more power? Thanks for any help, you can most likely tell I am somewhat lost about this!

    I would like to understand how network mounted software works. For example, at my place of work, we have a software server. Each client machine (hundreds of them) automatically mounts directories from the software server on boot. For example, a program like Matlab is installed just once on the software server, but each client machine can start up an instance of Matlab. What is going on under the hood? Let's say I run /opt/bin/matlab and /opt/ is mounted from the software server, what happens when I press Enter to execute matlab on a client machine? The process is on the client machine, and I've already narrowed down that there isn't any implicit or hidden file transfer (i.e. copying matlab to my machine temporarily for that session) by running matlab on a computer with nearly zero disk space (i.e. not enough room to transfer). Since Matlab was installed on the server, how is my client computer executing it? What mechanism is controlling this? What is happening behind the scenes?
