• Searching for the J. R. "Bob" Dobbs screensaver from Slackware to install in 13.10

  I have seen on older (ca. 2004) RHEL systems a screensaver, xlock, with a twisting and morphing picture of J. R. "Bob" Dobbs. An extensive search of screensavers available for Ubuntu has not provided revelation. Does any SubGenius out there know where I may find it for the current Lubuntu ver. 13.10? Thank you kindly. Where do I expect to find it? Well, every screensaver app available via Synaptic and Ubuntu Software Center has been checked, to no avail. I have also done an extensive search for it via multiple search engines, not merely looking at the first screen in a Google Search. That's why I am asking here. How might I import that app from Slackware's repository into Lubuntu?

• How can you learn to design nice looking websites?

  I am a moderately capable web developer. I can put stuff where I want it to go and put some JQuery stuff in there if I need to. However, if I am making my own website (which I am starting to do) I have no idea how to design it. If someone was to sit next to me a point to the screen and say "put this picture there, text there" I can do that quite easily. But designing my own site with my choice of colours and text will look like a toddler has invented it. Does anyone know any websites/books I can look at or has anyone got any tips on the basics of non-toddler web design?

  I've read that Lua is often used for embedded scripting and in particular game for scripting. I find it hard to picture how it is used exactly. Can you describe why and for which features and for which audience it is used? This questions isn't specifically addressing Lua, but rather any embedded scripting that serves a purpose similar to Lua scripting. Is it used for end-users to make custom adjustments? Is it used for game developers to speed up creation of game logic (levels, AI, ...)? Is it used to script game framework code since scripting can be faster? Basically I'm wondering how deep between plain configuration and framework logic such scripting usage goes. And how much scripting is done. A few configuration lines or a considerable amount?

• Sitefinity SimpleImageSelector to return Url of image instead of Guid

  It's been quite a while but I've found something to blog about!I've been working with Sitefinity for some time now and one of the things that I've struggled with, and I'm not the only one is something that should be simple.  See, all I want to do is be able to choose a picture from one of the libraries within Sitefinity and be able to display it via the GUID it returns or the path of the URL.  I want to do this from my user control or a custom control.Well, it turns out that this is not built in, at least I've not been able to get anything working correctly until I found this post and was able to get it to work.  However, I want to store the relative URL of the image so I made a small change to make it return the URL instead of the GUID.To make the change, in the SimpleImageSelectorDialog.js file, on line 43, change the original line:var selectedValue = this.get_imageSelector().get_selectedImageId();to the new line:var selectedValue = this.get_imageSelector().get_selectedImageUrl();var selectedValue = this.get_imageSelector().get_selectedImageUrl();Of course, save and recomple the project and now it will return the URL instead of the GUID of the image from the choosen Album.

• Incorrect colour blending when using a pixel shader with XNA

  I'm using XNA 4.0 to create a 2D game and while implementing a layer tinting pixel shader I noticed that when the texture's alpha value is anything between 1 or 0 the end result is different than expected. The tinting works from selecting a colour and setting the amount of tint. This is achieved via the shader which works out first the starting colour (for each r, g, b and a) : float red = texCoord.r * vertexColour.r; and then the final tinted colour : output.r = red + (tintColour.r - red) * tintAmount; The alpha value isn't tinted and is left as : output.a = texCoord.a * vertexColour.a; The picture in the link below shows different backdrops against an energy ball object where it's outer glow hasn't blended as I would like it to. The middle two are incorrect as the second non tinted one should not show a glow against a white BG and the third should be entirely invisible. The blending function is NonPremultiplied. Why the alpha value is interfering with the final colour?

  I've done some basic 1 D integration, but i can't wrap my head around things and apply it to my graph layout. So, consider the picture below: if i drag the red node to the right, i'm forcing his position to my mouse position the other nodes will "follow" him, but how ? For Verlet, to compute the newPosition, i need the acceleration for every node and the currentPosition. That is what i don't understand. How to i compute the acceleration and the currentPosition ? • How to Fix "Read-only file system" error when I run something as sudo and try to make a folder/file?

  When I try to save something or rename a file/folder it say this error " Read-only file system" or run something as root in the terminal it say this error sudo: unable to open /var/lib/sudo/"My User Name"/0: Read-only file system W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock E: Unable to write to /var/cache/apt/ E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. When I make a Folder the error dialog in the details with Nautilus is this: Error creating directory: Read-only file system I would show you I picture of it but it isn't even letting my save onto my flash drive. • Convert DVD to MKV (et al) without transcoding/recompression

  Like a lot of people, I have a lot of DVDs. But we also have a stupid amount of disk space and a media centre (Boxee) so the DVDs are getting less and less use. It would be nice to convert our DVDs into something more relevant to our needs. I've dabbled with DVD ripping before but whereas I'd usually transcode down to a smaller picture size with a better video compression algorithm, this takes a silly amount of time. I don't have a couple of hours available for each disk. (Sidebar: is there dedicated, Linux-friendly hardware to improve h264 encoding performance?) So I was wondering if there's anything that take the DVD filesystem, De-CSS it, and then stitch together any the VOBs that make up the main part of the film and package that up in a wrapping format like MKV. A bonus would be if it could grab the subtitles and stick them in too but that's not a requirement as Boxee can grab the subtitles online if it needs to.

  I have been working on freelance sites for a good 4 or 5 years, bending over backwards to build a decent portfolio and generate great ratings. I take huge pride in my work (web applications). I'm completely lost because when I think what would happen if I suddenly lost my freelance account it isn't a pretty picture. I have literally no idea where else I could advertise my services apart from google paid advertising. Any suggestions? I'd of course be more than willing to pay for marketing and such. I've been searching google for ages and can't find much advice on where to advertise to secure good clients for web development work. I say good clients because I mean actual business owners, not somebody else who is outsourcing to me (where do they find clients?). I'd appreciate any help.

• Exporting .FBX model into XNA - unorthogonal bones

  I create a butterfly model in 3ds max with some basic animation, however trying to export it to .FBX format I get the following exception.. any idea how i can transform the wings to be orthogonal.. One or more objects in the scene has local axes that are not perpendicular to each other (non-orthogonal). The FBX plug-in only supports orthogonal (or perpendicular) axes and will not correctly import or export any transformations that involve non-perpendicular local axes. • Did anyone experience negative SERP movement after implementing rel=author?

  I am not intrested in why I don't see the picture in SERPs. So I know this is borderline off-limits but I turned every stone in the web (including DDgo) trying to find anybody experiencing a worse position in SERPs after implementing rel=author tags. In Google Webmaster Tools: Everything seems fine but the first results dropped 14 places in SERPs in the past two days. The original landing page went down from first page to 5th page in a few days. It is a useful site with original content concerning marriage laws. This specific page is no where to be found and now the first result leads to the home page. Assuming everything else is the same with no changes made to the site at all is there a reason the rel=author tag will cause such a plummet? Additional info that might be useful: The google+ account is as dead as a palm pilot.
