  • How to debug Ruby base methods in Netbeans ?

    - by Bragaadeesh
Hi, I am able to debug my ruby program. At times, I would want to go inside the library methods and see what is happening. How to achieve it in Ruby. For example, [ 3, 1, 7, 0 ].sort i would want to go inside the sort method and see how that works lively. In Java+Eclipse this is possible, all I have to do is to attach the source of Foundation classes in Eclipse. Is it possible in Ruby with Netbeans as IDE? Thanks

  • Rails "Missing these required gems" error for installed gems

    - by Shpigford
I know this has been asked multiple times before, but I've tried those things and still am not having any luck. For the mechanize gem, I keep getting the "Missing these required gems" error when I run db:migrate on my production server. Here's the full error: Missing these required gems: mechanize You're running: ruby 1.8.6.111 at /usr/bin/ruby1.8 rubygems 1.3.5 at /home/user/.gem/ruby/1.8, /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 Output of which ruby is /usr/bin/ruby Output of which gem is /usr/bin/gem When I run gem list mechanize (1.0.0) is definitely in the list. What am I doing wrong here?

  • How do you know which domain owns the hosting?

    - by BubbleStalker
For example if I have 1) host adress 2) login 3) password, I am entering by SSH on ruby on rails hosting, then how can i be sured that this hosting belongs to a specific domain? for example how can I know if www.site.com - belongs to some specific hosting to which I have access. I am asking this because I have access to hosting of ruby on rails, and when i modify files, there is no changes, i've tried to use the files "script", "serv", "restart.txt" - by ssh: touch tmp/restart.txt ./serv restart script restart nothing of the above helped...and I don't know what to do, any ideas?

  • Error after second spec run with rspec and autospec

    - by Sean Chambers
After installing rspec/ZenTest and running autospec, it runs my specs the first time as expected. After making a change to one of my specs and upon running the second time I get the following results: /usr/bin/ruby1.8 /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/bin/spec --autospec /home/schambers/Projects/notebook/spec/models/user_spec.rb -O spec/spec.opts /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/formatter/progress_bar_formatter.rb:17:in `flush': Broken pipe (Errno::EPIPE) from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/formatter/progress_bar_formatter.rb:17:in `example_passed' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/reporter.rb:136:in `example_passed' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/reporter.rb:136:in `each' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/reporter.rb:136:in `example_passed' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/reporter.rb:31:in `example_finished' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/example/example_methods.rb:55:in `execute' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/example/example_group_methods.rb:214:in `run_examples' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/example/example_group_methods.rb:212:in `each' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/example/example_group_methods.rb:212:in `run_examples' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/example/example_group_methods.rb:103:in `run' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/example_group_runner.rb:23:in `run' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/example_group_runner.rb:22:in `each' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/example_group_runner.rb:22:in `run' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/options.rb:152:in `run_examples' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/lib/spec/runner/command_line.rb:9:in `run' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rspec-1.3.0/bin/spec:5 Has anyone run into this or know what the heck is going on here? • Updating FGLRX driver fails & deactivates FGLRX driver

I have an ATI/AMD graphics card in my computer. However, every time I try to install the post-release updates, it always fails and deactivates the graphics driver. I've pasted the last few messages following the ldconfig deferred processing now taking place message from the installation log from /var/log/jockey.log below; if you're interested, I have pasted the full output here. • Post-retirement plans for Ruby package in Precise 12.04LTS?

    - by Alexandr Kurilin
Now that Ruby 1.8.7 is officially retired, is it at all possible that the default ruby package in precise might be updated all the way up to 2.0? I understand that backporting is generally not done with Ubuntu releases for concerns of breaking people, but in this case we're dealing with a deprecated package that might either already have security issues, or have more of them discovered in the future without any chance of them being fixed. What's the plan? Will 12.04 march on with 1.8.7?

  • Is it okay to define a [] method in ruby's NilClass?

    - by Silasj
Ruby by default does not include the method [] for NilClass For example, to check if foo["bar"] exists when foo may be nil, I have to do: foo = something_that_may_or_may_not_return_nil if foo && foo["bar"] # do something with foo["bar"] here end If I define this method: class NilClass def [](arg) nil end end Something like that would make this possible, even if foo is nil: if foo["bar"] # do something with foo["bar"] end Or even: if foo["bar"]["baz"] # do something with foo["bar"]["baz"] here end Question: Is this a good idea or is there some reason ruby doesn't include this functionality by default?

  • rake aborted! undefined local variable or method

    - by Subhransu
    In a fresh new Ubuntu machine, I have installed ruby with sudo apt-get install ruby1.8 and then installed rubygem1.8 with : sudo apt-get install rubygems and after that installed rails3.2.8 with : gem install rails The procedure was very simple. But here comes the problem. When I tried checking the version of rake with rake --trace -version I got the following error: rake aborted! undefined local variable or method `rsion' for #<Rake::Application:0xb72c731c> /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/lib/rake/application.rb:316:in `standard_rake_options' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/optparse.rb:1298:in `eval' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/lib/rake/application.rb:316:in `standard_rake_options' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/optparse.rb:1298:in `call' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/optparse.rb:1298:in `parse_in_order' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/optparse.rb:1254:in `catch' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/optparse.rb:1254:in `parse_in_order' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/optparse.rb:1248:in `order!' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/optparse.rb:1339:in `permute!' /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/optparse.rb:1360:in `parse!' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/lib/rake/application.rb:425:in `handle_options' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/lib/rake/application.rb:74:in `init' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/lib/rake/application.rb:133:in `standard_exception_handling' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/lib/rake/application.rb:72:in `init' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/lib/rake/application.rb:64:in `run' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/lib/rake/application.rb:133:in `standard_exception_handling' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/lib/rake/application.rb:63:in `run' /var/lib/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.9.2.2/bin/rake:33 /usr/local/bin/rake:19:in `load' /usr/local/bin/rake:19 Is it the problem due to I have installed straight from ubuntu apt-get package manager ?

  • How to debug on a real device (using Eclipse/ADT)

  • Managing NSStoreType changes between debug and release builds

    - by Eimantas
NSXMLTypeStore is used when starting Core Data backed application by default because it's good for debugging purposes. But practice dictates that developer should use either NSBinaryStoreType, NSInMemoryStoreType or NSSQLiteStoreType store types in release builds. How do you manage changes between debug and release builds? I believe that changing store type from NSXMLTypeStore to, say, NSBinaryStoreType in code on each release is kinda cumbersome.

  • Putting a variable name = value format in Ruby

    - by Calm Storm
Hi, I would like to add some debugs for my simple ruby functions and I wrote a function as below, def debug(&block) varname = block.call.to_s puts "#{varname} = #{eval(varname, block)}" end debug {:x} #prints x = 5 debug {:y} #prints y = 5 I understand that eval is evil. So I have two questions. Is there any way to write that debug method without using eval? If NO is there a preferred way to do this? Is there any way to pass a list of arguments to this method? I would ideally prefer debug {:x, :y. :anynumOfvariables}. I could not quite figure out how to factor that into the debug method (i.e, to take a list of arguments)

  • SQL SERVER – Remove Debug Button in SSMS – SQL in Sixty Seconds #020 – Video

    - by pinaldave
SQL in Sixty Seconds is indeed tremendous fun to do. Every week, we try to come up with some new learning which we can share in Sixty Seconds. In this busy world, we all have sixty seconds to learn something new – no matter how much busy we are. In this episode of the series, we talk about another interesting feature of SQL Server Management Studio. In SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) we have two button side by side. 1) Execute (!) and 2) Debug (>). It is quite confusing to a few developers. The debug button which looks like a play button encourages developers to click on the same thinking it will execute the code. Also developer with a Visual Studio background often click it because of their habit. However, Debug button is not the same as Execute button. In most of the cases developers want to click on Execute to run the query but by mistake they click on Debug and it wastes their valuable time. It is very easy to fix this. If developers are not frequently using a debug feature in SQL Server they should hide it from the toolbar itself. This will reduce the chances to incorrectly click on the debug button greatly as well save lots of time for developer as invoking debug processes and turning it off takes a few extra moments. In this Sixty second video we will discuss how one can hide the debug button and avoid confusion regarding execution button. I personally use function key F5 to execute the T-SQL code so I do not face this problem that often. • Error: undefined method `contact' for nil:NilClass

    - by user275801
I have a ruby/rails/hobo system that someone wrote a couple years ago, that I need to port to the latest version of ruby/rails/hobo. It seems that ruby doesn't care about backward compatibility, so code that used to work in the old app doesn't work anymore: In the observation.rb model file, the old app has this: belongs_to :survey has_one :site, :through => :survey def create_permitted? acting_user == self.survey.contact or acting_user.administrator? end survey.rb model file has this: belongs_to :contact, :class_name => 'User', :creator => true Unfortunately the code in observation.rb doesn't work under the new ruby/rails/hobo, and it gives me the error: NoMethodError in Observations#index Showing controller: observations; dryml-tag: index-page where line #1 raised: undefined method `contact' for nil:NilClass Extracted source (around line #1): 0 Rails.root: /home/simon/ruby/frogwatch2 Application Trace | Framework Trace | Full Trace app/models/observation.rb:48:in `create_permitted?' How should the "create_permitted" method be changed? I'm finding that the documentation for ruby/rails/hobo is pretty atrocious (which is fair enough as it is free software). Also I don't even know how to begin searching for this on google (i've been trying for days). Please help! :)

I'd expect that (and it doesn't happen when using 'rvm use system'). In fact it seems to be due to me using a Ruby installed via rvm.

  • Using rvm with a standalone ruby script

    - by John Yeates
I have rvm installed on a Mac OS X 10.6 system with the system ruby and 1.9.1. I also have this basic ruby script: #!/usr/bin/ruby require 'curb-fu' I need the script to use the system ruby regardless of what rvm's using at any given time; I'm assuming that I've got that right, at least. I've switched to the system ruby (rvm use system) and then installed the gem (gem install curb-fu). If I run irb and type require 'curb-fu', it works. However, running that script with ./myscript.rb fails: /Users/me/bin/podcast_notify.rb:6:in `require': no such file to load -- curb-fu (LoadError) from /Users/me/bin/podcast_notify.rb:6 What's going wrong here? How do I install curb-fu so that it's always available to this script?
