• Debian Wheezy 7.5 64bit xfce4 install error ( no desktop environment installed already )

  i wrote a CD with an iso-image from debian.org. the debian-7.5.0-amd64-CD-1.iso from this folder. Debian Wheezy 7.5 stable 64bit There was an error at Select and install software step. It said Retrieving file 770 from 800 and then it failed the installation. I continued the instal and when i opened the computer it doesn't work the Ctrl + Alt + F7 as i waited. It starts at tty1 and after logging in i edited config file cause it had a lot of errors and said E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages or Couldn't found the package. • Setup windows 2012 AD in Hyper-V for a Test environment

  Im trying to setup a Windos 2012 R2 test environment on my work computer (a laptop). I have a AD, DHCP and DNS server on server A, and a client connecting to the doman and that works. The client can ping the AD server and gets a valid IP adress. If I ping google.com from the client I get the IP adress but I dont get any responses (request time out). If i ping google.com from server A it works as it should. Server A have a connection to the Internet through a "external network switch" in hyper-v, which gets its internet from a router and the client is connected to a "internal network switch". May the poblem be that server A is behind a router? Can I make this solution to work regadless the network my laptop is connected to? At home i have one IP adress, at work its a totally different range. What I would like is to use my laptops internet connection, regardless wifi or wired, to act as incomming internet, is this possible?

• wireless router - configuring for low-latency, high traffic environment

  Hey all, I have a few questions about configuring a router to achieve low-latency, high speed throughput on a local area network that is not connected to the internet. I've read up on some stuff, but thought I would solicit some opinions here on what I've found and what I want to know.... Turn off SSID broadcast - it produces extraneous packets that all clients receive and reply (?) to. Not a huge deal, but it may help a bit. Mixed-mode off - I should attempt to have all devices using the same standard (e.g. 802.11n) and turn mixed-mode off. Any thoughts on security? Does having WEP or any of the WPA variants actually increase latency? Nothing super secure is going over this LAN so if turning security off made things better, that'd be cool. Any other thoughts or things to focus on to create the low latency environment I'm trying to go for would be great. Links to webpages and papers are also cool. I'm open to go through a bunch of stuff. Thanks in advance!

• Consulting: Organizing site/environment documentation for customers?

  Over time, I've taken on consulting and contract engineering work for various clients. More recently, customers are asking for certain types of documentation. These are small businesses and typically do not have dedicated technical staff. Within a single company, Wiki/Confluence/Sharepoint, etc. all make sense as a central repository for documentation and environment information. I struggle with finding a consistent method to deliver the following information to discrete customers. I'm shooting for a process that's more portable, secure and elegant than a simple spreadsheet or the dreaded binder full of outdated information. Important IP addresses, DHCP scope, etc. Network diagram (if needed). Administrative usernames and passwords and management URLs. Software license keys. Support contracts and warranty information. Vendor support contacts and instructions. I know there are other consultants here. Any suggestions or tips on maintaining documentation across multiple environments in a customer-friendly format? How do you do it?

• Developer hardware autonomy in a managed desktop environment [closed]

  I’m looking for some feedback on how developer PCs are managed within environments that have a strict managed desktop policy (normally large corporations). For example, many corporate environments control the installation of software and the deployment of patches and virus updates through a centralised channel. This usually means also dictating the OS version and architecture (32 bit versus 64 bit) which will likely also mean standardised hardware configurations. I’m particularly interested in feedback from developers who work in this sort of environment but have a high degree of autonomy over their machines. This might mean choosing your own hardware vendor, OS type and version and perhaps how the machines are built and maintained. I have several specific questions: How do you satisfy the needs of security, governance etc whilst maintaining your autonomy? For example, how do you address concerns about keeping virus definitions and OS patches up to date? Do you have a process for gaining exemption from standard desktop builds and if so, what do you need to demonstrate in order to get this? How have you justified this need to the decision makers? Essentially, what is the benefit to your role as a developer by having this degree of autonomy? Thanks very much everyone. How can this USB printer attached to Windows XP machine be shared so that other laptops or users in Network who have Windows 7 or Linux on their laptops can use this printer. • Linux servers in a (primarily) Windows (AD) environment

  When I arrived at my current position, our environment existed almost exclusively of Windows servers. However, I am a big fan of using Linux for certain applications, like the webgallery I was asked to set up, a simple SFTP server, Nagios for monitoring etc. I do fine setting these up, but not being the Linux expert, I am not sure how to properly join these servers to the domain and was therefor wondering what procedures or guidelines other people follow. We often use ping -a to quickly figure out the hostname of a certain server, but this does not seem to work for the linux machines, most likely because of the whole WINS/NetBios thing I assume. I just joined one server to the domain, but probably missed something cause it's not working even after a dnsflush. Next to that, the couple procedures I've found so far are pretty extensive and most of the time don't seem worth the time. Best case scenario, I download some kind of client (smbclient?), enter the domain name and maybe the server to use, supply an administrator password and that's it. Is that possible at all? Thanks

The web service gets document meta data from SharePoint, it running on a server where I cant debug but with logging I confirmed that the method enters and exits successfully.   I wonder what is a correct step by step logic of exporting scene with baked occlusion (Culling data) for loading that scene at runtime (on fly from the internet for example))? So currently my plan looks like this: I create prefabs Place them onto my scene (into Hierarchy) (say create 20 buffolows and some hourses and some buildings) Create empty prefab and drag all my scene objects from hierarchy onto it Export prefab So generally I put all my scene objects into one large prefab and export it but it seems that all objects that were marked as static get this property turned off when loading them at runtime and so no Frustrum Culling, and no Occlusion culling happens. So I wonder what is a correct way of exporting Sceen + Objecrts + Occlusion (and onther culing) data for future load of such scene at runtime? I wonder about current 3.5.2 Pro and future 4 Pro versions of U3D.

  I have a web service which is queried using linq to sql but returns an array of objects. I keep getting the following error: System.Security.VerificationException: Operation could destabilize the runtime When I run a method that uses a linq statement to return an array I get this error, but only on my test server, which is windows server 2008. Everything works fine in my win 7 machine. The project is a .net 3.5. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks UPDATE: My linq queries return IQueryable.

  I have an error in my GXT code on Internet Explorer (both Development Mode and not) when i try to attach a label to a panel. The error is "Unknown runtime error number: -2146827687" but this error in a GWT module is throws always, in other gwt modules with a label attached to the panel the error there isn't. The layout of panel is a GridFormLayout developed by me.   I am trying to run Cygwin, and I am running into some problems. I tried to compile a program that works both on Windows with mingw and on a Unix system, but when I go to compile it through Cygwin: gcc threads.c -o threads I get the error: this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way And that's it... any ideas what I am forgetting or screwing up?   I am writing a WPF program in C# in which I have a ListView for which the columns will be populated at runtime. I would like to use a custom DataTemplate for the GridViewColumn objects in the ListView. In the examples I have seen where the number of columns is fixed in advance, a custom DataTemplate is often created using something like the XAML below. <DataTemplate x:Key="someKey"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=FirstName}" /> </DataTemplate> This DataTemplate could also later be assigned to GridViewColumn.CellTemplate in the code-behind by calling FindResource("someKey"). However, this alone is of no use to me, because in this example the Path element is fixed to FirstName. Really I need something where I can set the Path in code. It is my impression that something along these lines may be possible if XamlReader is used, but I'm not sure how in practice I would do this. Any solutions are greatly appreciated.

  Suppose I have a VC++ project contains no of(say e.g 5) Source files(.cpp files),it will generate 5 .obj files(obj files corresponding to my .cpp's files not all kernel and OS layers including .obj files) e.g my project includes xyz_1.cpp,xyz_2.cpp,xyz_3.cpp,xyz_4.cpp,it will corresponds 4 respective .objs. By programtaically HOW CAN I TAKE AND GET THE NAMES OF THESE 4 .OBJ files at runtime(On run time I need to check how many obj files & names of those objs). REMEMBER I DON'T NEED ALL KERNEL AND OS LAYER .OBJS I ONLY NEED OBJS OF MY .CPPs. Regards Usman

  I'm trying to debug some STL based C++ code in gdb. The code has something like int myfunc() { std::map<int,int> m; ... } Now in gdb, inside myfunc using "print m" gives something very ugly. What I've seen recommended is compiling something like void printmap( std::map<int,int> m ) { for( std::map<int,int>::iterator it = ... ) { printf("%d : %d", it->first, it->second ); } } Then in gdb doing (gdb) call printmap( m ) This seems like a good way to handle the issue... but can I put printmap into a seperate object file (or even dynamic library) that I then load into gdb at runtime rather than compiling it into my binary - as recompiling the binary every time I want to look at another STL variable is not fun .. while compiling and loading a single .o file for the print routine may be acceptable.

• Disable selected automated tests at runtime

  Is is posable to disable selected automated tests at runtime? I'm using VSTS and rhino mocks and have some intergation tests that require an external dependancy to be installed (MQ). Not all the developers on my team have this installed. Currently all the tests that require MQ inherit from a base class that checks if MQ is installed and if is not sets the test result to inconclusive. This works as it stops the tests from running, but marks the test run as unsuccseessful and can hide other failures. Any ideas?

• Crystal Reports and Report Viewer runtime question

  Using vs2008 c#. Howdy, Ive got an application where im trying to decide if i should use the Crystal reports or the Report viewer that comes with the visual studio install. My issue is that while it will run fine on my development machine, a lot of the machines the application will be deployed to in remote locations WONT have the runtime for either crystal reports or the report viewer installed. therefore if i build an application using either of these, and prevent user access to the reports only on the machines that do NOT have the runtimes, can the application run ok, or should i expect crazy errors on install and such Any advice appreciated.

I need table to start of an IEnumerable type so I can't declare is an object. • add ms ajax accordion pane at runtime loses previous pane issue

  I have an AjaxControlToolkit accordion control that i'm trying to load panes at runtime. When I click a button inside a listview, it should add a new pane to the accordion control. Here is the code that adds the pane in the onitemcommand event within the listview var pane = new AccordionPane { ID = key }; pane.HeaderContainer.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(label.Text)); pane.ContentContainer.Controls.Add(LoadControl("~/UserControls/Covers/" + e.CommandArgument + ".ascx")); accordion.Panes.Add(pane); And this will successfully show a webcontrol inside the accordion control. But when I click on another button in the listview, the accordion is reset and it only shows the new pane instead of appending a new pane. Is there any way to keep the previous pane visible across postbacks like this? By the way, each of the webcontrols that are loaded in the accordion have input fields that will need to be persisted across postbacks as well. thanks!

• Change My.Settings ConnectionString in runtime?

  I have a ClickOnce deployment where i have a INI-settings file on the network file with "global" settings that is supposed to affect the program on all client computers. The problem i have is that i whant to have the Database connectionString stored in this INI file and have it read and stored in the My.Settings ConnectionString at program startup. How do i do this? The ConnectionString setting is Application scoped and therefore Read-Only, if i try to set it by My.Settings("ConnectionString") = "Source=server;Initial Catalog=database;Integrated Security=True" I get a runtime error: An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: The type initializer for 'DB_lib.DB_LINQ' threw an exception. [EDIT] I got rid of the error by using the My.Settings("ConnectionString") = "Source=server;Initial Catalog=database;Integrated Security=True" in another place then the the eventtriggerd settingsLoaded method i created.. The problem is that even though the connectionstring semes to be the right, the program still connects to the "default" database that is typed in to the app.config file??
