  I have created a pkg for my regular simple commands. They are non-static, to be more extensible, but somewhat more time-consuming to use because of creating object to use one. My other classes use them. $ ls *.java CpF.java IsBinary.java RmLn.java Tools.java F2S.java IsRoot.java SaveToDisk.java WordCount.java Filters.java ModRelativePaths.java SetWord.java WordNumber.java Find.java powerTools.java Sort.java Which option would you choose to use them easier? to develop a small interface like 'powerTools.java' for the pkg. to create a class with static methods for them. to add a static method to each class to stop overusing 'creating too many files' and centralising some? sthing else?

• Simple ViewController / View, remove white bar?

  I am just looking at setting up a simple viewController programatically, I have a ViewController.xib file that I have set the background color to RED in interface builder. I have also added the following to my AppDelegate.m @implementation syntax_MapViewAppDelegate @synthesize window; -(BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { viewController = [[MapViewController alloc] init]; [window addSubview:[viewController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } -(void)dealloc { [viewController release]; [window release]; [super dealloc]; } @end When I run the code it does what I expect apart from the white bar at the bottom of the screen, can anyone give me any pointers in how to remove this? I have a feeling I might need to position the view within the window, but I am not sure how? cheers Gary

• Algorithm to split an array into N groups based on item index (should be something simple)

  I feel that it should be something very simple and obvious but just stuck on this for the last half an hour and can't move on. All I need is to split an array of elements into N groups based on element index. For example we have an array of 30 elements [e1,e2,...e30], that has to be divided into N=3 groups like this: group1: [e1, ..., e10] group2: [e11, ..., e20] group3: [e21, ..., e30] I came up with nasty mess like this for N=3 (pseudo language, I left multiplication on 0 and 1 just for clarification): for(i=0;i<array_size;i++) { if(i>=0*(array_size/3) && i<1*(array_size/3) { print "group1"; } else if(i>=1*(array_size/3) && i<2*(array_size/3) { print "group2"; } else if(i>=2*(array_size/3) && i<3*(array_size/3) print "group3"; } } But what would be the proper general solution?   hi folks! while revising for an exam, i came across this simple question asking about rollbacks in processes. i understand how rollbacks occur, but i need some validation on my answer. • How to do simple math in datagridview

  I am new to C#. I have a datagridview with 9 columns. I am simply trying take the value in column 5 and subtract it from column 6. Then display the result in column 9. It seems simple enough.I know it's done in excel all the time. But I just cannot figure this out. Do I need to create a new class with a method called calculate columns? or does the datagridview class have something already built in that can handle this? Again, I am new to C#.   I want to make nice and clean api; I'm making site and I want to offer the ability to mobile apps use web API of my site. I don't want to use oAuth, becouse the mobile and embedded applications that are facing the biggest hurdle, as they may not be able to bring up and/or control the web browser. Also its a little complicate. I know, that HTTP basic authorisation is not safe, but it's so simple... I want to use it in my api. I have somee users logins and their passwords (md5-encoded) in mysql base, but how to use those data in this HTTP basic authorisation?

• [Simple] Beginner AJAX script not working, stuck on opening XMLHttpRequest

  Hopefully, this question isn't too juvenile to ask - but here goes: I'm trying to learn AJAX, and I'm stuck on a simple content-fetch. Here is my code: request = getHTTPObject(); function useHttpResponse() { if (request.readyState == 4) { document.getElementById("p").innerHTML = request.responseText; } } function update_p() { request.open("GET",content.html,true); request.onreadystatechange = useHttpResponse; } getHTTPObject is correctly defined, and returns a proper XMLHttpObject. As you probably guessed from the excerpt, the element I am trying to update is id'd "p". It calls the script correctly when a button is clicked, no problem there. The script seems to stop at line 8, at request.open. There's no error, and the script silently ignores anything afterward. I don't think I've missed anything, but of course, I probably did. Where did I go wrong? Thanks!

  I have a few (hopefully) simple questions about aggregate roots in domain driven design: Is it okay to have an aggregate root as a property of another aggregate root? Is it okay to have a given entity inside two or more aggregate roots? My final question is a bit more involved. I have a website that has a few entities that really belong to a "website" aggregate root. They are 'News', 'Products', and 'Users'. There isn't a 'Website' table in the database, but a 'Website' seems like a good aggregate root for these three entities. How is this usually achieved? Thanks!

What is the purpose of this? Now, I am going to release it as open source, and am curious as to how I should deploy it. Do I need to create an installer package with any dll's? Should I just zip up the *.exe file with a README? Does anybody know of a free hosting solution that would provide me with free web and database functionality? I am familiar with Google App Engine and that would work but I don't want to spend time using their custom storage scheme. I'm looking for something free that I can put together very quickly.   Read (skimmed enough to get coding) through Erlang Programming and Programming Erlang. One question, which is as simple as it sounds: If you have a process Pid1 on machine m1 and a billion million messages are sent to Pid1, are messages handled in parallel by that process (I get the impression no) and is there any guarantee of order when processing messages? ie. Received in order sent? Coming from the whole C/Thread pools/Shared State background ... I want to get this concrete. I understand distributing an application, but want to ensure the 'raw bones' are what I expect before building processes and distributing workload. Also, am I right in thinking the whole world is currently flicking through Erlang texts ;)

• Question about the lifecycle of a simple Android application

  Hi, I've got a simple application with 3 activities: -the first contains a search box which calls a web service and show the results (restaurants) below in a listview -when a restaurant is clicked another activity is started showing the description of the restaurant and a button "show map" -when the button "show map" is clicked, guess what, the map is shown in a third activity. All the data is loaded in the first activity by a web service (restaurant descriptions and coordinates), and data required by each activity is passed in a bundle using "intent.putExtra". Now everything seems to run smoothly when clicking on the back button (eg. clicking on the back button from the map resumes the "restaurant description" activity with all data set properly), while I haven't done anything about the lifecycle yet. Why? Are all variables saved automatically? Should I use onSaveInstanceState() and onRestoreInstanceState() anyway? Thanks Jul

  Hi All I have a simple EJB jar with a stateless session bean, deployed in JBOSS AS 4.2.2, unde r/server/default/deploy. The bean is registered under JNDI tree as viewed from jboss jmx console and I am able to access it through a remote java client outside JBOSS. Inside EJB jar, I have added some logging to be written to a separate log file, using apache log4j jar and log4j.xml. But I am not able to view any of the logs. Also I do not wish to use jboss-log4j.xml, since there will be many other EJBs to be deployed and wish to have separate log4j for each EJB application. Here is my one of the EJB-jar contents: EJB_DS.jar: log4j.xml classes apache log4j jar is added to /server/default/lib path.   I need to implement a simple plotting component in C#(WPF to be more precise). What i have is a collection of data samples containing time (X axis) and a value (both double types). I have a drawing canvas of a fixed size (Width x Height) and a DrawLine method/function that can draw on it. The problem I am facing now is how do I draw the plot so that it is autoscaled? In other words how do I map the samples I have to actual pixels on my Width x Height canvas?

  Supose we have a very simple model: Station has at least one Train Train has at least two Stations The model has to allow to check what stations any given train visits and to check what trains visit a particular station. How to model it in Haskell? I am a Haskell newbie, so please correct me: once an object is created, you cannot modify it - you can only make a new object based on that one (~immutability). Am I right? If so, I'll have to create a lot of temporary variables with semi-initialized objects (during deserialization or even in unit tests). Basically what I need is an example of modeling domain classes in Haskell - after reading "Learn you a haskell.." I still have no idea how to use this language.

  Hello, TRUE/FALSE if clauses are easily and quickly done in R. However, if the argument gets more complex, it also gets ugly very soon. For instance: I might want to execute different operations for a row(foo) dependent on the value in one cell (foo[1]). Let the intervals be 0:39 and 40:59 and 60:100 Something like does not exit: (if foo[1] "in" 40:60){... In fact, I only see ways of at least two if clauses and two else statements and the action for the first interval somewhere at the bottom of the code. With more intervals(or any other condition) it is getting more complex. Is there a best practice (for this purpose or others) with a simple construction and nice design to read? Thanks a lot!

• Migrating a simple application from Application Delegate to ViewController Class

  Hi Frst of all wanted to send out a huge thanks for the great feedback and support. I have a simple application working, right now simply loads a sequence of images and alows the user to step thru the images by clicking a button. All of my logic is in my Application Delegate class, with the image loading, initialization of UIImage Views etc happening in my applicationDidFinishLaunching method. My next step is to migrate as much as possible all of the logic from this class to a ViewController, to take advantage of the extra functionality etc in viewcontrollers. All my images and imageViews are initialized like the following in my applicationDidFinishLaunching. img = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@image1.jpg" ofType:nil]]; imgView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:img]; How would I migrate this to a ViewController based application? Where would I put all of the logic currently in my applicationDidFinishLaunching method, or for loading of images, is it necessary to only load them here? Any feedback, tips, suggestions appreciated.
