• Which tools should be used for data migration between environments?

  Ø  With the Oracle Utilities Application Framework based products there are a number of tools provided that can be used to transfer data from one environment to another. Ø  There are three main tools that implementations use: §  ConfigLab - A configurable copy facility is metadata aware and therefore understands the relationships between objects and by invoking the relevant maintenance objects validates the data copied. This utility uses the object validation to help ensure data integrity. Basically it is a set of configuration tables and a set of batch jobs to perform the migration of data. §  Bundling - A configurable release management tool that allows exporting of Advanced Configuration Environment based objects (business services, business objects, UI Maps etc) from one environment to another. §  Blueprint - An Oracle Utilities Software Development Kit (SDK) based tool to import metadata from the development environment to your initial testing environment. The utility is command line based and basically uses a text based configuration file to drive the utility on the source and target sides. Ø  Each tool has a role in an implementation but you must be careful to use the right tool for the right job within an implementation. The suggestions are as follows: §  Only use the Blueprint tool for migrating data from your development platform to your initial test environment. The blueprint tool is not designed to move large amounts of data and certainly is risky, if not used correctly, and can potentially break the integrity of your data. §  The SDK provides the configuration data that it is used for (mainly meta-data). This should not be extended as, while it can perform data migration on any data, it is not efficient and risky for certain types of configuration data. • Kubuntu 11.04 bad experience, Gimp crashes and other bugs

  I installed Kubuntu 11.04 64bit today. First let me expose some issues, this is not a rant, just some observations on Kubuntu 11.04 :) Flash doesn't work. The package "flashplugin-installer" was installed by rekonq. But still no flash. Additional Drivers (jockey-kde) doesn't show up automatically after first login. I tried to delete a large file (19,2 GB), an error appeared: "Please empty the trash first, no more space available" or something like that, but you know what? My trash was empty! (Then I found in Dolphin the settings to increment the max size of the trash). Amarok has no play/pause/forward/back buttons, only after changing settings to show those buttons on the top bar. GTK applications like ubuntu software center, inkscape... are in english, but my default language is "german". Only gimp allows to install the "de" language pack. The numblock turns off after each restart. In the KDE Control Center, the "remember last state" of numblock is set. But this is not working. I had some crashes: Nepomuk, Policy-kit, plasma-workspace and gimp. But now to the important stuff. I really need Gimp to work. After starting it, I get a crash: giowck@giowck-desktop:~$ gimp (gimp:1899): GLib-WARNING **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.28.6/./glib/goption.c:2132: ignoring no-arg, optional-arg or filename flags (8) on option of type 0 Speicherzugriffsfehler (in English: "Memory error") What can I do to run Gimp?   Orrcle Open World Latin America 2012 will be in Sao Paulo, Brazil December fourth through the sixth. • Cannot log in to the desktop on ubuntu 11.10?

  The problem is, I could log in under the terminal, i could ifup eth0, i could do anything I want in the terminal, but if I use ctrl+alt+f7 goto the gnome login screen, after I input the correct password, the system just send me back to same login screen again. I have created a new user, but it didn't work. I have change all the files under ~/ to jichao:jichao(which is my username) with chown -hR jichao:jichao /home/jichao, but it didn't work too. I searched the internet, somebody said I should see the logs under /var/log/gdm, but there is not a /var/log/gdm directory in my box.   I just upgraded Ubuntu from 13.04 to 13.10, and now I can't log into Active Directory; my system is integrated using PowerBroker Identity Services (PBIS), which used to be called Likewise-Open. So far I have identified the following symptoms: I am able to log in with my credentials via ssh. The screen goes black when attempting log into my account via the login screen. I've tried leaving the domain, purging PBIS, and re-installing the latest version of PBIS. I've been trying the troubleshooting section I found here, but I haven't had any success. The challenge is to write at least two blog posts a week for 12 weeks over the summer. Consider this challenge accepted. So, what can we expect coming up? I still have the Kinect v2 Alpha kit. Some of you may have seen me use it in talks. I need to make some major API changes in The Krewe WP8 App. Plus, I may have Xamarin on board to help with getting the app to the other platforms. I am determined to learn F#, and I'm taking all of you with me. I am teaching a college course this summer. I want to post some commentary on that side of training. I am sure some biometric stuff will come up. Anything else you guys may want. I have created tasks on my schedule to get a new blog post up no later than every Tuesday and Friday. We'll see how that goes. Wish me luck.

The nice thing also is that Tinkerforge products are open source, both on the hardware and software levels, so that you can take their bases as a starting point for your own modifications. "The TinkerForge system is a set of pre-built electronics boards that are built in such a way that you can stack the boards (known as bricks), attach accessories (known as bricklets), and have your prototype and and running quickly. Unlike systems, such as the Arduino or Launchpad, the TinkerForge has to be attached to a computer and the computer does all of the work. With an easy set of application programming interfaces (APIs) available in C/C++, C#, Java, PHP, and Ruby, the system is easy to interface and program over USB in a snap." • Creating an expandable, cross-platform compatible program "core".

  Hi there. Basically the brief is relatively simple. We need to create a program core. An engine that will power all sorts of programs with a large number of distinct potential applications and deployments. The core will be an analytics and algorithmic processor which will essentially take user-specific input and output scenarios based on the information it gets, whilst recording this information for reporting. It needs to be cross platform compatible. Something that can have platform specific layers put on top which can interface with the core. It also needs to be able to be expandable, for instance, modular with developers being able to write "add-ons" or "extensions" which can alter the function of the end program and can use the core to its full extent. (For instance, a good example of what I'm looking to create is a browser. It has its main core, the web-kit engine, for instance, and then on top of this is has a platform-specific GUI and can also have add-ons and extensions which can change the behavior of the program.) Our problem is that the extensions need to interface directly with the main core and expand/alter that functionality rather than the platform specific "layer". So, given that I have no experience in this whatsoever (I have a PHP background and recently objective-c), where should I start, and is there any knowledge/wisdom you can impart on me please? • Starting to Program C++ and Java

  So as the title states, I'm trying to start programming in C++ and Java. I took C++ and Java courses in high school and I'm trying to get back into it. Of course all I want to get working now is a simple "Hello World" program. Couple of things: I want to use an IDE. I've decided on Eclipse. I'm just confused about how I go about downloading/using it. For Java: I get stuck right on their download page. They show Eclipse Classic, Eclipse IDE for Java developers and Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers. I only programmed in Notepad and compiled in command prompt. Question 1: Which version of Eclipse should I download? Question 2: Do I need to install the Java JDK or does it come built into Eclipse? For C++: I guess I download the separate Eclipse IDE for C/C++ developers? I'm not too sure. I remember using Microsoft Visual for C++. I remember it being weird though. Anyways Question 3: Which version of Eclipse should I download? Question 4: Does C++ have a Development Kit or does it come built into Eclipse?
