• Servlet file not running in IE9

  We are having an issue with a third party application running in IE9 which I don't believe is application specific but browser/security related. Essentially when someone is trying to add a note to a task in the application the application wants to run an "addtasks.do" file which IE9 promptly pops up a "What program do you want use to run this?" dialog. (I believe a .do file is a Java servlet) In Chrome carrying out the same action results in the note being added successfully. Does anyone have any idea why IE9 won't run it and how we can address the issue?

  My Zend Framework application has a public directory which contains an htaccess file. If the file isn't found in the public directory, it routes the request through the application. I have an MP3 file within my public directory, but the htaccess file is routing the request through the application! Do you see anything wrong with my htaccess file? • apache chokes after 300 connections

  We have an apache webserver in front of Tomcat hosted on EC2, instance type is extra large with 34GB memory. Our application deals with lot of external webservices and we have a very lousy external webservice which takes almost 300 seconds to respond to requests during peak hours. During peak hours the server chokes at just about 300 httpd processes. ps -ef | grep httpd | wc -l =300 I have googled and found numerous suggestions but nothing seems to work.. following are some configuration i have done which are directly taken from online resources.   I have one worksheet for setting up the data sources of multiple data validation lists. in other words, I'm using this worksheet to provide drop down lists to multiple other worksheets. I need to dynamically update all worksheets upon any of a single or several changes on the data source worksheet. I may understand this should come with event macro over the entire workbook. My question is how to achieve this keeping the "OFFSET" formula across the whole workbook ? Thx To support my question, I put the piece of code that I'm trying to get it working : Provided the following informations : I'm using such a formula for a pseudo dynamic update of the drop down lists, for example : =OFFSET(MyDataSourceSheet!$O$2;0;0;COUNTA(MyDataSourceSheet!O:O)-1) I looked into the pearson book event chapter but I'm too noob for this. • Upgrading to Java 7u65 breaks my Deployment Rule Set for Oracle applications

  My company uses an older version of an Oracle application that requires Java 6u45. Naturally we want to be secure, so we use a Deployment Rule Set to specify 6u45 for that internal application and let other applications use 7u60. Now that we're ready to upgrade the Java 7 half to 7u67, the Oracle application breaks with "Deployment Rule Set required version 1.6.0_45 not available." Of course it is available, it just can't find it for some reason. As a test, I specified that JavaTester.org should use 6u45 also and it works fine with no issues. But when I try to use the same configuration (7u67 and 6u45) against the Oracle application it fails every time. If I downgrade to 7u60, it works. 7u65 or higher, it breaks. The Oracle application hasn't changed so it must be something different in how 7u65+ is handling Deployment Rule Sets or pathing or something. • I keep getting a Java incoming connections pop up

  I keep getting the following message, "Do you want the application “java” to accept incoming network connections?" First of all, what application? Second, if it's part of the browser, which sometimes the browser isn't open, it doesn't show me what page is requesting it. "Application" is very generic. Third what does that mean? Is it asking if anyone on the internet can make connections to my computer?

• How do I capture and playback http web requests against multiple web servers?

  My overall goal is to not interrupt a production system while capturing HTTP Posts to a web application so that I can reverse engineer the telemetry coming from a closed application. I have control over the transmitter of the HTTP Posts but not the receiving web application. It seems like I need a request "forking" proxy. Sort of a reverse proxy that pushes the request to 2 endpoints, a master and slave, only relaying the response from the master endpoint back to the requester. I am not a server geek so something like this may exist but I don't know the term of art for what I am looking for. Another possibility could be a simple logging proxy. Capture a log of the web requests. Rewrite the log to target my "slave" web application. Playback the log with curl or something. Thank you for your assistance.

• Access server bound to localhost:5000 from different computer

  I am working on a web application using the Pylons framework. The web server is binding to localhost:5000 so I am able to access my application by going to localhost:5000 in my browser. I would like to be able to access the server from another computer on the same network. The computer that is hosting the server and application is running Mac OSX and the computer I would like to be able to access the application is running Windows 7 (I have cygwin with SSH installed as well as PuTTY). I could work around this by binding to the host name of the computer but would rather leave it running only on localhost. I was thinking I could do something with SSH tunneling but have not had any luck so far. Any ideas?

• Nginx load distribution and multi-domain SSL

  I'm researching into the best methods of two new parts of our infrastructure, hopefully finding a single solution for both. 1) We're currently running a single application server, and we're going to be adding an additional application server and load balance between the two. 2) We handle a few thousand domains across the application server(s), and we're looking to support SSL. The best method i've come across so far is using nginx for it's Load Distribution to serve the requests to the application servers, and for it's SSL support. If a request is using SSL, nginx accepts the request on, terminates SSL and pipes to apache (app servers). Now, that's all good, but i'm yet to figure out how we can let nginx handle multiple domains using SSL. We're potentially looking at using UCC SSL Certs, so we can support 150 domains on a single certificate, with each cert on a single IP. I'm all new to this (My experience is just with physical load balancers and a single domains on SSL), so any advice would be very much appreciated.

• Windows 7 Shortdate Format Ignored

  I am moving a copy of an ASP.net web application running on a windows server 2003 box to a Windows 7 Laptop. On the win server 2003 box the locale was set to United States and shortdate format was M/DD/YYYY. On the Windows 7 machine it is DD/MM/YYYY which is breaking the application. I have tried changing all the locale settings under controlpanel-regions to United States and rebooting with no luck. I also tried explcitly setting the shortdate format to M/DD/YYYY under the region settings but the web application seems to ignore it. How can I change the Windows 7 shortdate format so an ASP.net application will recognize it ?

Networx tells me how much my connection uses in total, and I need to know how much each application uploaded / downloaded. Does anyone know of a network connection monitoring utility for Windows 7 that can give me a daily outline of how much data was uploaded & downloaded, and specify this on a PER APPLICATION basis.   I need a simple way to check if my files are valid documents (pdf, doc, docx, ppt, pptx, xls, xlsx, odt, ods, odp and etc). I can't use file because magic does not work well at all.   Background Most installation toolkits have the ability to launch, automatically or otherwise, external programs after installation. This is often appears in the installer via such options as "Show readme", or "Start program". Issue The problem is, many of these installers are poorly coded, and do not drop permissions appropriately. For example, starting the application automatically, or opening the application's homepage in the browser, often results in launching the application or browser with the installer's Administrative privileges, or a "High" UAC integrity level! This has the potential to open up security breaches, by opening up the installed application, or a web page (and possibly browser add-ons), that are now running with elevated permissions. (This is the reason I strongly recommend never choosing auto-launch options when installing software.) Question The question is: Is there a way to prevent certain applications (such as a web browser) from ever being launched with Administrative privileges, i.e., an automatic drop-privilege?
