• CakePHP hasAndBelongsToMany (HABTM) Delete Joining Record

  I have a HABTM relationship between Users and Locations. Both Models have the appropriate $hasAndBelongsToMany variable set. When I managing User Locations, I want to delete the association between the User and Location, but not the Location. Clearly this Location could belong to other users. I would expect the following code to delete just the join table record provided the HABTM associations, but it deleted both records. $this->Weather->deleteAll(array('Weather.id' => $this->data['weather_ids'], false); However, I am new to CakePHP, so I am sure I am missing something. I have tried setting cascade to false and changing the Model order with User, User-Weather, Weather-User. No luck. Thanks in advance for any help.

• moving EDMX file System.Data.MetadataException: Unable to load the specified metadata resource.

  I have a ASP.NET MVC 2 project. I've created edmx file on the class library project that holds the model. now I've created another class library called it shared and moved the edmx file over there. resolved some issues, everything compiles, but it can't find the connection string resource at runtime. I've copied the ConnectionString part of the Web.Config to the main file, the old class library app.config file and the new class library app.config file. Still get this error: System.Data.MetadataException: Unable to load the specified metadata resource. Line 75: public myProjdb() : base("name=myProjdb", "MyProjdb") in the MyProj.Designer.cs file. Any Idea how to resolve this issue ? Is there a better way to store connection string data ?

  I have this data structure: request ======= building_id lot_code building ======== building_id lot_id lot === lot_id lot_code The request table is missing the value for the building_id column and I want to fill it in from the other tables. So I've tried this: UPDATE request SET building_id = ( SELECT bu.building_id FROM building bu INNER JOIN lot lo ON bu.lot_id=lo.lot_id WHERE lo.lot_code = request.lot_code ); But I'm getting this error: Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , , = or when the subquery is used as an expression. Is it due to wrong syntax? The data model allows more than one building per lot but actual data doesn't contain such cases so there should be at most one building_id per lot_code.

  From within the setup_app function (websetup.py) of a pylons i18n application, which is making use of a db, I was trying to initiate multilingual content to be inserted into the db. • Data frame linear fit in R

  This is perhaps a simple question, but I am n00b.Say I have a data frame with a bunch of columns. I need to call lm function over the column 1 and 2, 1 and 3, and so on. So basically I need to loop over all columns and store the results of the fit as I build the model. The problem I am running into is that lm(df[1]~df[2], data = df) doesnt work. In this case df is the data frame object and df[1] is the first column. What is a good way to do this in a loop, as in access the columns of df in an iterative fashion. Thanks.

  I am a little confused and making it alot more complicated than this needs to be! Here is what I have... A view which displays a drop down of US States. When the user chooses a state it loads a list of data from a database and returns the results (populates the View Model) and the View renders the information. What I wanted to do was have have the dropdown trigger an Ajax event which performs the data load, but also wanted it to depreciate if the user didn't have Javascript enabled. How would I go about rendering the view with AND without javascript / ajax? Hope that makes sense. Thanks for your help.

• decode mysql query before returning it to view

  I'm running a query to mysql that returns encrypted data. I'd like, if possible, to decode the results before sending it to the view. It seems like better form to handle the decoding in the controller (or even the model) rather than inside the view. I can't seem to wrap my head around how to do it, though. I was thinking I could iterate through the object, decodode it, and push it to another array that would be sent to the view. Problem with this is I won't know (and need to keep) the indexes of the query. • Help with porting thread functionality: Win32 --> .Net

  Hi, I am responsible for porting a class from legacy Win32 code to .Net and I have come across a threading model that I'm not sure how best to implement in .Net. Basically the Win32 has one worker thread, which calls WaitForMultipleObjects() and executes the particular piece of code when a particular object has been triggered. This has a sort of first-come-first-serve effect that I need to emulate in my own code. But I'm not sure how best to do this in .Net. Does anyone have any idea? I see that there is no equivalent of WaitForMultipleObjects() in .Net, only the ThreadPool class, which seems to provide most of what I need, but I'm not sure if it's the best, since I only have four objects total to wait and execute code for.   Hi I know this is something simple I am doing wrong. I have three tables, installation, neighborhood, schools Installation: has_many :schools has_many :neighborhoods Neighborhood: has_many :installations has_many :schools Schools: belongs_to :installations belongs_to :neighborhoods I can't figure out how to show the name of the neighborhood the school is located in on the index view. I can get it to show on the show view once I have the school id. But on the index view I can't figure out what to put in the controller that will allow me to access the neighborhood name from the neighborhood_id that is in the School model. I am sure this is so easy and I am screwing up something stupid. HELP!

  So, I have a table like such: id|root|kw1|kw2|kw3|kw4|kw5|name 1| A| B| C| D| E| F|fileA 2| A| B| | | | |fileB 3| B| C| D| E| | |fileC 4| A| B| | | | |fileD (several hundred rows...) And I need to get it into a tree like the following: *A *B -fileB -fileD *C *D *E *F -fileA *B *C *D *E -fileC I'm pretty sure the table is laid out poorly but it's what I have to live with. I've read a little about Adjacency List Model & Modified Preorder Tree Traversal but I don't think my data is laid out correctly. I think this requires a recursive function, but I'm not at all sure how to go about that. I'm open to any ideas of how to get this done even if it means extracting the data into a new table just to process this. Are there any good options available to me or any good ways to do this? (Examples are a bonus of course)

• Rails + simple role system through associative table

  So I have the Ninja model which has many Hovercrafts through ninja_hovercrafts (which stores the ninja_id and the hovercraft_id). It is of my understanding that this kind of arrangement should be set in a way that the associative table stores only enough information to bind two different classes. But I'd like to use the associative table to work as a very streamlined authorization hub on my application. So i'd also like this table to inform my system if this binding makes the ninja the pilot or co-pilot of a given hovercraft, through a "role" field in the table. My questions are: Is this ugly? Is this normal? Are there methods built into rails that would help me to automagically create Ninjas and Hovercrafts associations WITH the role? For exemple, could I have a nested form to create both ninjas and hcs in a way that the role field in ninjas_hovercrafts would be also filled? If managing my application roles this way isn't a good idea, whats the non-resource heavy alternative (my app is being designed trying to avoid scalability problems such as excessive joins, includes, etc) thank you

It was about a guy who setup a wcf service (I guess RIA, but could have been something else) exposing the model via IQueryable to the querystring. Sou you could say http://host/articles/123/ratings and you'd get a list (soap or json) of serialized Rating entities (the properties which had some attribute attached) which pertained to an article with id 123. All this with nHibernate / nh linq in the back and in surprisingly few lines of code. Anyone knows what I am talking about? Experiences, suggestions?

• What segments does C compiled program use?

  Hi, I read on OSDev wiki, that protected mode of x86 architecture allow you to create separate segments for code and data, while you cannot write into code section. That Windows (yes, this is the platform) loads new code into code segment, and data are created on data segment. But, if this is the case, how does program know it must switch segments to the data segment? Becouse if I understand it right, all adress instructions point to the segment you run the code from, unless you switch the descriptor. But I also read, that so colled flat memory model allows you to run code and data within one segment. But I read this only in connection to assembler. So, please, what is the case with C compiled code on Windows? Thanks.

  I have a many-to-many relationship: Application - Applications_Servers - Server This is set up in my Entity Data Model and all is well. My problem is that I'd like to eager-load the whole graph of Applications so that I have an IEnumerable<Applications>, each Application member populated with the Servers collection associated by the many-to-many relationship. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but according to my research there must be a navigation property between Application and Server. This is not the case for me because my Applications_Servers join table has more in it than just the two keys. Therefore, there is no navigation property directly between Application and Server, and this doesn't work: var apps = (from a in context.Application.Include("Server") select a).ToList(); I get an error saying there is no navigation property on Application called "Server", and that's correct, there is none. How do I write the query to eager-load my Applications with their Servers in this case?

  I need to write a custom setter method for a field (we'll call it foo) in my subclass of NSManagedObject. foo is defined in the data model and Xcode has autogenerated @property and @dynamic fields in the .h and .m files respectively. If I write my setter like this: - (void)setFoo: (NSObject *)inFoo { [super setFoo: inFoo]; [self updateStuff]; } then I get a compiler warning on the call to super. Alternatively, if I do this: - (void)setFoo: (NSObject *)inFoo { [super setValue: inFoo forKey: inFoo]; [self updateStuff]; } then I end up in an infinite loop. So what's the correct approach to write a custom setter for a subclass of NSManagedObject?
