• Can't select View Content dropdown when adding view in MVC using Interfaces

  I have my Model defined externally in two projects - a Core project and an Interface project. I am opening the Add View dialogue from my controller, and selecting Create a strongly typed view. In the drop down list, I can select the concrete types like MyProject.Model.Core.OrderDetails, but the interface types like MyProject.Model.Interface.IOrderDetails aren't there. I can type the interface class in manually and everything works, but then the View content menu that lets you select the Create, Delete, List, etc scaffolding is disabled. Is there some problem with using interfaces in MVC? Or is it something else I'm missing?

• Can't connect to HTTPS using X509 client certificate

  Hi - I'm new to cryptography and I'm a bit stuck: I'm trying to connect (from my development environment) to a web service using HTTPS. The web service requires a client certificate - which I think I've installed correctly. They have supplied me with a .PFX file. In Windows 7, I double clicked the file to install it into my Current User - Personal certificate store. I then exported a X509 Base-64 encoded .cer file from the certificate entry in the store. It didn't have a private key associate with it. Then, in my app, I'm attempting to connect to the service like this: var certificate = X509Certificate.CreateFromCertFile("xyz.cer")); var serviceUrl = "https://xyz"; var request = (HttpWebRequest) WebRequest.Create(serviceUrl); request.ClientCertificates.Add(certificate); request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Http.Post; request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; I get a 502 Connection failed when I connect. Is there anything you can see wrong with this method? Our production environment seems to work with a similar configuration, but it's running Windows Server 2003. Thanks!

• I can't get datepicker to work

  Hi, I need a field that displays the datepicker. I followed the example given by the JQuery UI documentation and haven't managed to get it to work. • Website --> Add Reference also creates files with pdb extensions

  Hello, Q1 Any assemblies stored in Bin directory will automatically be referenced by web application. We can add assembly reference via Website -- Add Reference or simply by copying dll into Bin folder. But I noticed that when we add reference via Website -- Add Reference, that additional files with .pdb extension are placed inside Bin. If these files are also needed, then why does reference still work even if we only place referenced dll into Bin, but not pdb files Q2 It appears that if you add a new item to web project, this class will automatically be added to project list and we can reference it from all pages in this project. So are all files added to project list automatically being referenced ? thanx EDIT: On your second question, you are adding a public class to a namespace so will be visible to other classes in that project and in that namespace. I don’t know much about assemblies, but I’d assume the reason why item( class ) added to the project is visible to other classes in that project is for the simple fact that in web project all classes get compiled into single assembly and for the fact that public classes contained in the same assembly are always visible to each other? much appreciated

• File transfer eating alot of CPU

  I'm trying to transfer a file over a IHttpHandler, the code is pretty simple. However when i start a single transfer it uses about 20% of the CPU. If i were to scale this to 20 simultaneous transfers the CPU is very high. • Problems using FluentNHibernate + SQLite with .NET4?

  I have a WPF application running with VS2010 .Net3.5 using Nhibernate with FluentNHibernate + SQLite, and all works fine. Now I want to change to use .Net4, but this has turned into a more painful experience then I expected.. When setting up the connection a FluentConfigurationException is thrown from FluentConfiguration.BuildConfiguration saying: An invalid or incomplete configuration was used while creating a SessionFactory. Check PotentialReasons collection, and InnerException for more details. The inner exception gives us more information: Could not create the driver from NHibernate.Driver.SQLite20Driver, NHibernate, Version=2.1.2.4000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=aa95f207798dfdb4. It has an InnerException again: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. Which again has an InnerException: The IDbCommand and IDbConnection implementation in the assembly System.Data.SQLite could not be found. Ensure that the assembly System.Data.SQLite is located in the application directory or in the Global Assembly Cache. If the assembly is in the GAC, use element in the application configuration file to specify the full name of the assembly. Now - to me it sounds like it doesn't find System.Data.SQLite.dll, but I can't understand this. Everywhere this is referenced I have "Copy Local", and I have verified that it is in every build folder for projects using SQLite. I have also copied it manually to every Debug folder of the solution - without luck. Notes: This is exactly the same code that worked just fine before I upgraded to .Net4. I did see some x64 x86 mismatch problems earlier, but I have switched to use x86 as the target platform and for all referenced dlls. I have verified that all files in the Debug-folder are x86. I have tried the precompiled Fluent dlls, I have tried compiling myself, and I have compiled my own version of Fluent using .Net4. I see that there are also others that have seen this problem, but I haven't really seen any solution yet. After @devio's answer I tried adding a reference to the SQLite dll. This didn't change anything, but I hope I made it right though..   In the intent of preventing XSS attacks, I am updating a page in which we have a textbox that accepts HTML, stores it in a database and retrieves and renders it at a later time. My understanding is that I can sanitize the HTML using AntiXSS.GetSafeHtmlFragment() method. As long as I do this before storing the HTML in the database, am I covered? Do I need to do anything when the HTML is outputted on a web page? Also, it appears that the white list is kind of a black box. Is there a way to update this based on our requirements?

• Server.Execute(path).. executed page returns the calling pages' url from request.url..

  Hey, As explained in the title, I am having a problem with getting the URL of the page being executed from within a page. Basically I have a dynamic catalogue, where customers select products they are interested in. The manager of the company I am doing this for would like to be able to create an up to date offline catalogue at any given time, to send out to customers who dont have an internet connection. So far its going really well. I am using Server.Execute to get the content for each page, then putting it in static html pages and changing the dynamic links to static html links (ie changing all aspx links to htm). I am able to output all the pages for about us, contact us, home, and the entire catalogue. However, one of the stylesheets which is included in the page based on the URL (if the page is in the administration section then it is not included, otherwise it is) is not being included in the pages when it should be. I have tried outputting the URL but it just returns the URL of the calling page, not the page being called. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is there a way to get a comile-time failures if an object or method is renamed which would cause the ObjectDataSource no longer work? In MVC there is the notion of compiling views, is there a parallel to this for webforms?

  I was just editing some C# code between <% %> tags in an .ascx file, and I noticed that the Refactor contextual menu is unavailable. And even if I manually add items from this menu to a custom toolbar, they are disabled when viewing aspx/ascx files. I usually only have small snippets of C# code in my aspx/ascx files, but it would still be nice to be able to perform refactoring operations on any code that exists between <% %> tags. I feel like I'm going back to the dark ages when I have to use find/replace to change the name of a variable. Questions Is there a way to enable Visual Studio's refactoring features while viewing aspx/ascx files in Visual Studio? Are there any Visual Studio plug-ins (preferably free) that offer this kind of functionality?

• Chart Control Inside SSRS ReportViewer is Viewable From Localhost But Not Internet

  A project I own was just moved from an older server to a new one, and in the process of moving the web folder, re-deploying the SSRS reports, restoring the database, configuring IIS, etc... I have lost the ability to view the Microsoft Chart Controls that are embedded in the SSRS reports, that are then displayed by a Microsoft.ReportViewer. I could view them both locally and remotely (via the internet) on the old server. I can view them if I preview the SSRS report in Visual Studio. The report displays fine, only missing all the embedded charts. I can still view them locally through the web browser, just not from the internet. What am I missing? I tried giving permissions to the ChartImageHandler temp storage folder, but it didn't work. I'm getting the Javascript error: Error: ClientReport380ec8ca0c294a809e9986c1bef9db1c is undefined

• Advice on designing and building distributed application to track vehicles

  I'm working on application for tracking vehicles. There will be about 10k or more vehicles. Each will be sending ~250bytes in each minute. Data contains gps location and everything from CAN Bus (every data that we can read from vehicle computer and dashboard). Data are sent by GSM/GPRS (using UDP protocol). Estimated rows with this data per day is ~2000k. I see there 3 main blocks. 1. Multithreaded Socket Server (MSS) - I have it. MSS stores received data to the queue (using NServiceBus). 2. Rule Processor Server (RPS) - this is core of this system. This block is responsible for parsing received data, storing in the database, processing rules, sending messages to Notifier Server (this will be sending e-mails/sms texts). Rule example. As I said between received bytes there will be information about current speed. When speed will be above 120 then: show alert in web application for specified users, send e-mail, send sms text. (There can be more than one instance of RPS). 3. Web application - allows reporting and defining rules by users, monitoring alerts, etc. I'm looking for advice how to design communication between RPS and Web application. Some questions: - Should Web application and RPS have separated databases or one central database will be enough? I have one domain model in web application. If there will be one central database then can I use the same model (objects) on RPS? So, how to send changed rules to RPS? I try to decouple this blocks as much as possible. I'm planning to create different instance of application for each client (each client will have separated database). One client will be have 10k vehicles, others only 100 vehicles.

When I upgraded to VS2010 I ran into some odd problems, but after changing to use x64 variant of SQLite it worked fine again. Now I want to change to use .Net4, but this has turned into a more painful experience then I expected.. First I met a problem which required that I set a [SecurityCritical] attribute. Fine - I fixed this. But the reason this was exposed was because an exception was thrown in the first place. And the exception thrown was the following - when calling FluentConfiguration.BuildConfiguration: FluentConfigurationException unhandled An invalid or incomplete configuration was used while creating a SessionFactory. Anyone out there using Fluent with .Net4 and SQLite - on a 64bit machine - successfully? Help! I'm lost...
