  • Changing the block size of a dfs file in Hadoop

    I found that my map tasks is currently inefficient when parsing one particular set of files (total 2 TB). I'd like to change the block size of files in the Hadoop dfs (from 64MB to 128 MB). I can't find how to do it in the documentation for only one set of files and not the entire cluster, does anyone know the command that would change the block size when I upload it (ie copy from local to the dfs)? Thanks!

  • How to move many files in multiple different directories (on Linux)

    My problem is that I have too many files in single directory. I cannot "ls" the directory, cos is too large. I need to move all files in better directory structure. I'm using the last 3 digits from ID as folders in reverse way. For example ID 2018972 will gotta go in /2/7/9/img_2018972.jpg. I've created the directories, but now I need help with bash script. I know the IDs, there are in range 1,300,000 - 2,000,000. But I can't handle regular expressions. I wan't to move all files like this: /images/folder/img_2018972.jpg -> /images/2/7/9/img_2018972.jpg I will appreciate any help on this subject. Thanks!

  • How to "grep" out specific line ranges of a file

    There are often times I'll grep -l whatev file to find what I'm looking for. Say the output is 1234: whatev 1 5555: whatev 2 6643: whatev 3 If I want to then just extract the lines between 1234 and 5555, is there a tool to do that? For static files I have a script that does wc -l of the file and then does the math to split it out with tail & head but that doesn't work out so well with log files that are constantly being written to.

I have 3 files which are just plain text, within each file, is a date Date: 2012-08-31 for example I would like to get a command/script to find this and update to the current date, but the date will be ever changing and may not be known going in (without viewing the contents of the file Knowing what the date is, its simple enough with sed, but how can I do this knowing the syntax of the line I want to modify, but not the specific values.     Hi!, I have setup svnserve server (1.6.5,plain, without apache) on Fedora. The users, who has accounts in same machine want to checkout a working copy. I have read svnbook and other sites and found file:/// access method is being used to checkout as svn checkout file:///var/svn/repos/myproject/trunk myproject ( ref:svnbook) I am little confused!     What I have is a C# windows app that reads a bunch of SQL tables and creates a bunch of queries based on the results. What I'm having a small issue with is the final "," on my query This is what I have ColumnX, from I need to read the entire file, write out exactly what is in the file and just replace the last , before the from with nothing.     I have a main website, then I have a backup of the main site in another folder on the server to be used if main site goes down I can push traffic to my copy of the main site. With that said I want to nightly update the copy site with the updated files made to the main site from the prior day's updates to text files and new images. What is best method of doing this automatically every 24 hours? I assume a cron script could be created for this need? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
