  • VncServer can't restart because of Xvnc

    I'm working on a Red Hat Linux server. VNC server started to act weird (i.e. the sessions became Spartan). So I decided to reboot VNC server. I keep getting the following error message: "unable to start Xvnc, exiting" Does anyone know what this means? The best thing I could come up via Google was that some packages needed to be updated, but everything was already up to date.

    We have two Windows 2008 R2 SP1 servers running in a SQL failover cluster. On one of them we are getting the following events in the security log every 30 seconds. The parts that are blank are actually blank. Has anyone seen similar issues, or assist in tracking down the cause of these events? No other event logs show anything relevant that I can tell. I installed Network Monitor on this machine and did a filter for Kerberos traffic and found the following which corresponds to the timestamps in the security audit log.   • how to update webalizer on certain dates?

    Hi, My webalizer had been running fine until I changed the logrotate different name (dateext). Few days later, I realized that webalizer was not working, so I remove the dateext option. Webalizer is working again but there is no stats for 3-4 days in between. When I run webalizer manually, the records are just ignored because the history file is newer. Any solution for updating the stats for that date/log file without erasing the current stats?

I'm making the effort to try moving my virtual host from a Windows box to a Linode instance to try and better learn Linux, and one of the uses I occasionally have with my current Windows VPS is to RDP into it and browse the internet. I'm aware that this is probably not best practice (from either performance or security), and most of the time I will be learning from the shell, but I do occasionally need to boot into a GUI.   • Automating video generation by adding an intro and a trailing video to the main video

    I have a video project I am trying to compile. Here is the overview: I have many videos which are 5 minute training sessions - Main video. The Intro Video will be a standard 5 second video that will have the Video title and Author. This will be concatenated to the main video. The Trailing Video will pretty much be a stock video that will be concatenated to the main video and have all the legaleze etc. The Intro Vid will smoothly fade into the main vid as well as when you get to end of the main video it will fade into the Trailing video nicely. The product is a new video with a Intro, Main & Trailer video all in one! The concept is really that simple. In fact I found an example of a person who has solved this and is doing exactly what I want. This solution is a Bash script that takes a config file that has the title, author, etc. and generates the Intro, the Ending and creates the resulting video with them concatenated. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 Server. I have been trying to take this as a sample and just running it with no luck because of incompatibility errors. I even attempted to convert it using .MP4 containers or .MKV. I am running into error after error or incompatibility issues. I went as far as changing out the ffmpeg binary using the 25 Oct 2013 version from http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/static/64bit/ which I like as I don't have to worry about rebuilding the binary. Almost successful but again I have some error which I cannot solve. I know part of the problem is the fact that video production, codecs, formats is a completely new field for me so I am attempting to work through this new territory. Perhaps an expert here has something similar that I can use as a guideline that uses MP4 or h.264 format. Or take the solution above from the URL and make it work with a more up-to-date version of ffmpeg. I will include the script and its parameter file and the output (abbreviated because of limitation) below. Basically as the script stands right now, when run I get the error [matroska,webm @ 0x27bbee0] Read error. This error is return from the 'reasembleVideo' routine from the first ffmpeg command.     I've been trying to find some decent tutorials on how to set up a recent release of Cherokee webserver on Ubuntu (or equivalent Linux distros) which outline how to setup the webserver, mysql, phpmyadmin and php. Some already exist, such as http://www.howtoforge.com/installing-cherokee-with-php5-and-mysql-support-on-ubuntu-10.04 however, I've found that the Cherokee version used in the tutorial is considerably out of date and the update process has been painful to say the least.     I've just installed the 10.04 release on my laptop. I've also installed the nvidia propietary driver as suggested by the system. I've some problem using an external monitor, i'm not able to set the correct resolution using the nvidia-setting utiloty. It doesn't recognize the right resolution of my external monitor. And ideally will let me save straight to either plain text UTF8 or to a file of plain HTML paragraphs?

    Trying to route a new ISP (Microwave link) from one of my out buildings to my computer room and hence my firewall. Old ISP came direct into firewall. In the outbuilding the Microwave modem connects with cat5 to HP Procurve 2524 switch. Because this ISP is coming through my internal network, I plan on using a new vlan called "airspeed" only for this ISP traffic. Up until now I've just been using the Default_vlan on both HP switches (4108 + 2524). So far I've been unable to ping from my laptop to the ISP modem both of which are on the new vlan 2 ("Airspeed"). No traffic needs to cross from vlan 2 to vlan 1 so I've left the ports as untagged. I've used the subnet provide from my ISP as the new vlan 2 subnet. Can anybody see what I'm doing wrong here? I've added the configuration of both switch below.
