  • What are the advantages of a $ SKU of VS2012 over Express?

    I will be using Visual Studio only for creating C#/XAML Windows Store apps. Is there any reason for me to purchase a "Professional" SKU of VS 2012 rather than just using the Express (free) "Metro apps with C#/XAML" version? The only thing I can think of is that I won't be able to use Resharper in the Express version (which I've already purchased a license for, but I use it at work, so that won't be a waste of money if I can't use it at home) - plus, I believe that even the Express SKU of VS 2012 will have similar code quality utility built in.

  • Regular Expression Transformation

    The regular expression transformation exposes the power of regular expression matching within the pipeline. One or more columns can be selected, and for each column an individual expression can be applied. The way multiple columns are handled can be set on the options page. The AND option means all columns must match, whilst the OR option means only one column has to match. If rows pass their tests then rows are passed down the successful match output. Rows that fail are directed down the alternate output. This transformation is ideal for validating data through the use of regular expressions. You can enter any expression you like, or select a pre-configured expression within the editor. You can expand the list of pre-configured expressions yourself. These are stored in a Xml file, %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\nnn\DTS\PipelineComponents\RegExTransform.xml, where nnn represents the folder version, 90 for 2005, 100 for 2008 and 110 for 2012. If you want to use regular expressions to manipulate data, rather than just validating it, try the RegexClean Transformation. The component is provided as an MSI file, however for 2005/200 you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox by hand. This process has been described in detail in the related FAQ entry for How do I install a task or transform component?, just select Regular Expression Transformation in the Choose Toolbox Items window.     I've had this problem numerous times when trying to install software in WINE, now I've come to the point where I have to install something in WINE. Installing the program works fine, as soon as I go to run it however I get the message Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime. Runtime Error I have installed the above package using wine tricks, but still nothing. Have goggled to try and find if I am missing Dependencies or anything obvious, but after that I am stuck.   • Writing a Master's Thesis on evaluating visual scripting systems

    I am thinking to write my Master's thesis around theorizing, and then implementing a PlayMaker or Kismet-like (building game logic by visually arranging FSMs) tool in Unity. The only thing I am still concerned about is the actual research question that I should pose. I was kinda hoping that the more experienced game designers out there might know. Update: What about reducing the use of visual programming to graphically designing FSM-Action-Transition flows, which can then be attached to game entities (very much like http://playmaker.com does it)?

    We are trying to set up remote access to a computer that houses a server fro a particular program we are running. The program says we need to configure the office router. In the firewall settings it says to open ports 5345-5351 (TCP only). Port Forwarding: You will also need to forward the same range of ports (5345-5351) to the computer running the Server. This typically requires that the computer running the Server be assigned a static IP on the local network. Having trouble figuring out which IP address we actually need to be using on the client side of this program in order to access the server computer. Can someone walk through this process?? We are working on Mac OSX 10.5. Thank you in advance!

    I have Office 2008 for OS X through Microsoft's HUP (Home Use Program). I want to reinstall, so I need to first remove it. For Office on OS X, Microsoft provides a binary called "/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office/Remove Office". When I run it, it says it can't find any versions of office on my computer and won't do anything. I know MS-Office for Mac puts many different components in various places all over the system and not just within it's own applications folder, so how to I successfully remove Office so I can re-install?

  • Uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express after Demoting the DC

    A Windows Server 2003 SP2 hosting a now orphan installation of SQL 2005 Workgroup was pressed into service as a DC in a disaster recovery scenario. It has since been demoted. The server also hosts legacy apps for which we lack reinstallation resources; thus our desire to preserve it as close to intact as possible while removing the orphaned roles. All efforts to remove SQL 2005 thru Control Panel and ARPWrapper /remove fail with error 29528. Should I abandon this and leave the orphan SQL dormant, or is it reasonable to remove it post-demote?

  • Have you successfully installed Active Directory Management Gateway Service on 2008?

    I've got a pair of 2008 DCs onto which I've been trying to install the Active Directory Management Gateway Service. (I only wanted it on one but when that didn't work I tried another.) Both are failing with: "The update does not apply to your system". They're both Windows Server 2008 Domain Controllers, x64 version. Both have .NET 3.5 SP1 installed on them. One has Service Pack 2 installed and the other has the hotfix from 967574 installed. Both servers were rebooted after the installed of each of the required updates. I have attempted to install Windows6.0-KB968934-x64.msu on both and get the error reported above. According to the docs, my machines meet the requirements, so something must be missing from the requirements. Or there's something odd about these DCs. Has anyone succeeded? If so, did you have to install/remove anything (else) to get it installed?
