• How do I use grep to extract a specific field value from lines

  I have lines in a file which look like the following ....... DisplayName="john" .......... where .... represents variable number of other fields. Using the following grep command, I am able to extract all the lines which have a valid 'DisplayName' field grep DisplayName="[0-9A-Za-z[:space:]]*" e:\test However, I wish to extract just the name (ie "john") from each line instead of the whole line which is returned by grep. I tried pipelining the output to the cut command but it does not accept string delimiters.

• Textmate newbie question: how to indent CSS

  New to TextMate and can't find the answer in the documentation. I've saved an empty file as CSS and the 'active bundle' is showing as CSS, at the bottom of the screen. I've then pasted in a bunch of CSS from elsewhere (a minified page). However, it's all pasted in as a single line. How can I indent it to look like 'proper' CSS, using TextMate? Text + Indent just indents the whole line by a single tab. thanks!

  I'm trying to extract the number '1' that appears on the line with the ID I'm feeding (i.e. 12072). I've been trying for the past 2 hours to get this regex to work but I'm at a loss. So far I've got 12072.*?(\d+)(?!.*\d) but this extracts me everything from 12072 to the 1. Here's the text: <td id="12072" scope="#999999" bgcolor="#999999" style="width: 65; color:#999999" align="center" onclick="DaySelect(this)" title="">1</td> <td id="12073" scope="#999999" bgcolor="#999999" style="width: 65; color:#999999" align="center" onclick="DaySelect(this)" title="">1</td> How can I match just the number 1 from the end of the line of the specified ID, surely there's a way to do this?   I am trying to loop through an existing table (tblSalesOrder) and I need to run through every line (where they relate to that particular customer) and write each line into an SQL statement and execute it. What is the easiest way to go about this procedure? The number of lines will need to be counted prior to data being written via SQL to a QuickBooks database. I can code something similar in php using the code below, but I am unsure how to convert this into a VBA friendly format: $sql_count = "SELECT count(*) FROM tblSalesOrder WHERE Customer='cust_number'"; execute_query($sql_count) When the above value is greater than 0, the vba code should loop through the queries.   Hi, I've stumbled in a problem handling the \line-feed and \carriage-return characters in xml. I know that, according to http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#sec-line-ends, xml processors are required to replace any "\n\r" or lone "\r" sequences with "\n". The specification states that this has to be the behaviour for handling any "external parsed entity", does this apply to CDATA sections inside of an element as well? thank you, Michele I'm sure that msxml library for example converts every \n\r" or lone "\r" sequences to "\n", regardless of their being in a cdata section or not.

  I'm sure there is a quick and easy way to calculate the sum of a column of values on Unix systems (using something like awk or xargs perhaps), but writing a shell script to parse the rows line by line is the only thing that comes to mind at the moment. I have tried initializing a variable in the index method of the books controller but get exactly the same results. Thanks in advance! BTW had to make the links text because of stackoverflow limit.

  I'm attempting to provide a confirmation link in my user welcome email and I'm getting the following Rails error: Need controller and action! It makes a fuss about this line: <p>Please take a moment to activate your account by going to: <%= link_to confirm_user_url(:id => @user.confirmation_code) %>.</p> In my development.rb environment, I have the following line: config.action_mailer.default_url_options = { :host => "localhost", :port => 3000 } There's no problem with the @user variable. I've tested the email with things like @user.username and @user.confirmation_code. I'm only getting trouble with url_for and named routes like confirm_user_url. When I check my routes with rake routes, confirm_user shows up, so it's not an issue with the named route not existing. I can't seem to figure it out. What gives?

  I was wondering if it was possible to insert content inside html tags. So say you have a h4 tag: <h4>Some Header</h4> And you want the text to also be surrounded by a span with a class of "line". Like so: <h4><span class="line">Some Header</span></h4> I know about stuff like .after() but is there something like .inside() to do this with? \ Ok...I know I could do this manually, but in this situation it is out of the question. • Is there a faster way to draw text?

  Shark complains about a big performance hit with this line, which takes like 80% of CPU time. I have a counter that is updated very frequently and performance seriously sucks. It's an custom UILabel subclass with -drawRect: implemented. Every time the counter value changes, this is used to draw the new text: [self.text drawInRect:textRect withFont:correctedFont lineBreakMode:self.lineBreakMode alignment:self.textAlignment]; When I comment this line out, performance rocks. Its smooth and fast. So Shark isn't wrong about this. But what could I do to improve this? Maybe go a level deeper? Does that make any sense? Probably drawing text is really so incredible heavy...?

Firefox throws an error that simply says "$(" for that line. Anyone know what might be causing this?

• Excel Worksheet assignment in VB.Net doesn't compile

  I'm converting a VB6 application into VB.Net and having trouble with the basics. I start off with:- Dim xl As Excel.Application Dim xlsheet As Excel.Worksheet Dim xlwbook As Excel.Workbook xl = New Excel.Application xlwbook = xl.Workbooks.Open(my_data.file_name) xlsheet = xlwbook.Sheets(1) but the last line doesn't compile; it reports Option Strict On disallows implicit conversion from 'Object' to 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet' I can make this go away by replacing the line with xlsheet = CType(xlwbook.Sheets(1), Excel.Worksheet) but that does't look like the right thing to do to me. If the assignment is correct, I would have thought the object should naturally have the correct type. So: does anyone know what the correct thing I should be doing here?

• Tokenizing a string with variable whitespace

  I've read through a few threads detailing how to tokenize strings, but I'm apparently too thick to adapt their suggestions and solutions into my program. What I'm attempting to do is tokenize each line from a large (5k+) line file into two strings. Here's a sample of the lines: 0 -0.11639404 9.0702948e-05 0.00012207031 0.0001814059 0.051849365 0.00027210884 0.062103271 0.00036281179 0.034423828 0.00045351474 0.035125732 The difference I'm finding between my lines and the other sample input from other threads is that I have a variable amount of whitespace between the parts that I want to tokenize. The issue that I'm having is that temp2 never seems to catch a value. Ideally, it should get populated with the first column of numbers, but it doesn't. Instead, it is blank, and temp3 is populated with the entire line. Unfortunately, in my course we haven't learned about vectors, so I'm not quite sure how to implement them in the other solutions for this I've seen, and I'd like to not just copy-paste code for assignments to get things work without actually understanding it. So, what's the extremely obvious/already been answered/simple solution I'm missing? I'd like to stick to standard libraries that g++ uses if at all possible.

• Best tools to create valid XML files from an Excel file

  I need to create a script that extracts some data from a complex Excel 2003 file (with multiple Sheets and different tables inside a single sheet) and produces different XML files that need to be validated against a given XSD file. My preferred language is Python; to create and validate XML files i would go with lxml. What do you suggest for parsing XSL files? Is xlrd the right tool to use for complex Excel files? Or do i need to convert all the sheets in CSV manually, and read files line by line, splitting and getting data? I accept C#, VB6 suggestions too.

  I am trying to create some global variables in a firefox extension. In my content folder, I have two javascript files: 1) Main JS file that holds the functions for the different events, etc 2) A file that stores only an object with the pieces of state I want to maintain. Also, I set the array EXPORTED_SYMBOLS. I am having issues with the following line found in my main JS file: Components.utils.import("resource:///globalVariables.js"); When it is at the top of the file, nothing seems to work. If I move it into the function where I need the variable, the rest of my code works, but the function with this line does nothing. Any advice that would help me with this problem would be great.   How do you pass a value from your DAL to your sproc so that the ISNULL function will do it's job. Particularly the DATE value coming from my .NET assembly. In T-SQL an INSERT STMNT and in the VALUES clause, the line of interest goes like this; ISNULL(@myparm_forcolumn9, @myparm_forcolumn9). What value do I pass from .NET to make this line in my sproc work universally, so I don't have to write a millions INSERT SPROCS for every combination of columns???
