  • Combining database tables

    Hi all, I have two tables which look kind of similar and i was thinking about combining them and thought i would get some input from everyone. Here's what they currently look like: Issues Id | IssueCategory | IssueType | Status | etc.. ------------------------------------------------- 123 | Copier | Broken | Open | 124 | Hardware | Missing | Open | CopierIssueDetails Id | IssueId | SerialNumber | Make | Model | TonerNumber | LastCount --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | 123 | W12134 | Dell | X1234 | 12344555 | 500120 HardwareTicketDetails Id | IssueId | EquipmentNumber | Make | Model | Location | Toner | Monitor | Mouse ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | 124 | X1123113 | Dell | XXXX | 1st floor | 0 | 1 | 0 What do you guys think about combining these two tables into one. Would it be a good idea or is it better to keep them separated like this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Regular expressions in a Python find-and-replace script?

    I'm new to Python scripting, so please forgive me in advance if the answer to this question seems inherently obvious. I'm trying to put together a large-scale find-and-replace script using Python. I'm using code similar to the following: findreplace = [ ('term1', 'term2'), ] inF = open(infile,'rb') s=unicode(inF.read(),charenc) inF.close() for couple in findreplace: outtext=s.replace(couple[0],couple[1]) s=outtext outF = open(outFile,'wb') outF.write(outtext.encode('utf-8')) outF.close() How would I go about having the script do a find and replace for regular expressions? Specifically, I want it to find some information (metadata) specified at the top of a text file. Eg: Title: This is the title Author: This is the author Date: This is the date and convert it into LaTeX format. Eg: \title{This is the title} \author{This is the author} \date{This is the date} Maybe I'm tackling this the wrong way. If there's a better way than regular expressions please let me know! Thanks!

  • 64 bit Windows 7 + 32 bit windows XP dual boot?

    I have purchased an i7 based PC pre-installed with 64 bit windows 7 (home premium). Unfortunately some third party 32 bit software that I need to use is not working properly (see stackoverflow.com for details). I am now torn between the plan of installing windows XP 32 bit or making it dual boot. Which option do you think will give me the least problems? And if the answer is dual boot, then can you point me to a good guide for how to do it, preferably a guide specifically for my two OS's created in this order (i.e. 7x64 first). EDIT: the performance of my 32bit programs is critical so am concerned about any kind of 32bit XP "emulation".

    What are the disadvantages of using a swap file/partition on an SSD, even when swappiness is set to 0 I'm particularly interested in the /proc/sys/vm/swappiness=0 case. How much writes are still done, in practice, to that swap file, and does it have a negative impact to the SSD or any other disadvantage? Or would it nearly compare to not having a swap file? I am pretty aware of what swappiness=0 means, just not of what it amounts to in practice.   • TFS: How do I view .cs files in the VS IDE when viewing details of a shelveset?

    For our code review process we open the details of a shelveset to see all files that have been worked on. Right clicking and choosing "Compare" works great for existing ( modified ) files. But, when a file has been added I just want to view the file. Double clicking ( or right click - view ) opens .cs ( and .sql )files in notepad. When I try to open a .PRC file ( extension for our stored procedures ) I get a prompt that allows me to choose what program to use for viewing. Does anyone know how to get this prompt to show up for .cs files ( and all other files, for that matter ) Thanks!   • Conditional themes in Visual Studio 2008

    Can I have different visual studio themes associated to different solutions? Here's my problem. I have two files with sames names that have almost identical contents from two different solutions, open simultaneously. Of course, I have the first solution open and the file from the second solution is opened from explorer and has no connection to the first solution what so ever. Is there any way I can distinguish the the file that belongs to the solution from the other file, just by a different tab color or something like that and without hovering over the tab to look up the path.     I'm working at a web application in Python/Twisted. I want the user to be able to download a very big file ( 100 Mb). I don't want to load all the file in memory (of the server), of course. server side I have this idea: ... request.setHeader('Content-Type', 'text/plain') fp = open(fileName, 'rb') try: r = None while r != '': r = fp.read(1024) request.write(r) finally: fp.close() request.finish() I expected this to work, but I have problems: I'm testing with FF... It seems the browser make me wait until the file is completed downloaded, and then I have the open/save dialog box. I expected the dialog box immediately, and then the progress bar in action... Maybe I have to add something in the Http header... Something like the size of the file?

    I'm trying to open an image file in python and add that data to an sqlite table. I created the table using: "CREATE TABLE "images" ("id" INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT NOT NULL , "description" VARCHAR, "image" BLOB );" I am trying to add the image to the db using: imageFile = open(imageName, 'rb') b = sqlite3.Binary(imageFile.read()) targetCursor.execute("INSERT INTO images (image) values(?)", (b,)) targetCursor.execute("SELECT id from images") for id in targetCursor: imageid= id[0] targetCursor.execute("INSERT INTO %s (questionID,imageID) values(?,?)" % table, (questionId, imageid)) When I print the value of 'b' it looks like binary data but when I call: 'select image from images where id = 1' I get '????' printed to the console. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    I have my apache (for windows) htdocs in a folder like c:\anything1\????\anything2. The problem is that in this case php won't execute any scripts from here and will display an error message like this: `Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required 'c:/anything1/????/anything2/index.php' (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in Unknown on line 0 ` If I try to open a html file, it is served by apache, so it seems that the problem appears only with php. Do you have an idea how to solve this?

    I want to debug on the customer's machine (Windows Server 2003) to track a problem, and out product is based on .NET 2.0. I want to use DbgCLR.exe to debug a file AAA.dll, what I did is: install .NET 2.0 SDK on the customer's machine (to get the DbgCLR.exe) copy the symbol file AAA.pdb to the same directory with AAA.dll get the source file for AAA.dll the AAA.dll will be loaded by w3wp.exe, so in the DbgCLR Tools-Attach to Process, then I choose w3wp.exe File-Open-File open the source file and add a breakpoint in the function which will be callled but the breakpoint seems do no work because there is an warning icon on it and says : the breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document. On my computer (Windows XP) which has the debug version of whole source code, I did nearly the same thing as above but the different is: I attached aspnet_wp.exe to do the debug and it works What should I do to let it work on the customer's machine?

    Hi all, I've been teaching myself F# for a while now. I've read Programming F# by Chris Smith (great book) and I've written a few small scripts for getting the job done here and there. But IMO the best way to learn a new programming language—and more importantly, the idioms that come with it—is to read a good open source codebase written in that language. Naturally, writing code in that language is crucial, but in the beginning, you're basically struggling with your own ignorance about how things should be done. You could perform certain tasks one way or the other, but it takes experience to realize the flaws and virtues of each. Even after you've gotten a firm grasp of how things work, reading the code of people who have an even firmer one helps a great deal. Most would agree that the most insightful parts of any learn-a-programming-language book are the code examples, and reading a well-written open source codebase is the next level of that. So are there any out there for F#?

  • Appending html code to a section inside a dialog window isn't working in IE6

    I'm using jQuery's validation on a form. When the form is validated, I'm using a submitHandler to fill a dialog with data from the form then I open the dialog to display it. Works great except for in IE6. Nothing displays. I've tried initializing the dialog before and after running the validation code but neither makes a difference.     Whenever I run my program with fclose(outputFile); at the very end, I get an error. glibc detected...corrupted double-linked list The confusing thing about this though, is that I have fclose(inputFile); directly above it and it works fine.   • Visual studio 2010 colourizers, intellisense and the rest. Where to start!!

    Ok, before I begin I realize that there is a lot of documentation on this subject but I have thus far failed to get even basic colourization working for VS2010. My goal is to simply get to a point where I can open a document and everything is coloured red, from here I can implement the relevant parsing logic. Here's what I have tried/found: 1) Downloaded all the relevent SDK's and such- Found the ook sample (http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/ookLanguage) - didn't build, didn't work. 2) Knowing almost nothing about MEF read through "Implementing a Language Service By Using the Managed Package Framework" - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb166533(v=VS.100).aspx This was pretty much a copy and paste of all the basic stuff here, and also updating some references which were out of date with the sample see: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsx/thread/a310fe67-afd2-4592-b295-3fc86fec7996 Now, I have got to a point where when running the package MEF appears to have hooked up correctly (I know this because with the debugger open I can see that the packages initialize and FDoIdle methods are being hit). When I open a file of the extension I have registered with the ProvideLanguageExtensionAttribute everything dies as if in an endless loop, yet no debug symbols hit (though they are loaded). Looking at the ook sample and the MEF examples they seem to be totally different approaches to the same problem. In the ook sample there are notions of Clasifications and Completion controllers which aren't mentioned in the MEF example. Also, they don't seem to create a Package or Language service, so I have no idea how it should work? With the MEF example, my assumption is that I need to hook into the "IScanner.ScanTokenAndProvideInfoAboutIt" to provide syntax highlighting? Which would be fine if I could ever hit this method. So my first question I guess is which approach should I be taking here? Or do they both somehow tie together? My second questions is, where can I find a basic fully working project that implements bog standard basic syntax highlighting and intellisense or VS2010? Thirdly, in the MEF example when I created a Package there were a bunch of test projects created for me. I appears that the integration tests launch the VS2010 test rig somehow, but the test fails. It would be good to write my service with tests but I have no idea what/how I can test each interaction so any references to testing Language services would be helpful. Finally, please throw any resource/book links my way that I may find useful. Cheers, Chris. N.B. Sorry I realize this is part question part rant, but I have never been so confused.

But now I have the need to display a hidden div of content that contains an iFrame in a similar fashion, with a link to open the content.     Hello, I asked this question already on stackoverflow but it hasn't been answered yet. Instead I was advised to try it here, so here I go :) So there's that simple XY-Line-Chart in Excel (2010). It is surrounded by two other graphs which are parallel but offset by the same factor in both the positive and negative direction - something like this: ---------------- (positively offset parallel graph) ---------------- (main graph) ---------------- (negatively offset parallel graph) Now I want to color the space between the main graph and the offset ones, but I just can't seem to find a way! Is it maybe possible with VBA? Or is there maybe a solution for Excel 2007?

    How do YOU debug a Scala program? I mean YOU as in the person posting the Answer :) Please answer only from personal experience, not from stuff you've heard or read on the Internet. You should not believe everything you read on the Internet, especially tales of complex open-source software configurations that actually work :-) The are many Java tools which claim to support Scala in some way or another, but I have so far struck out in trying to get any one of them to actually let me set a breakpoint in Scala code and step through it. These are big, major open-source IDEs I'm talking about here. The main problem in getting a debugger to work seems to be the "version hell" with fast-changing IDEs, Plug-Ins, JDKs, and the Scala language itself. Hence, the more detailed re-statement of the question is appropriate: What is the exact version number of the IDE, Plug-In, JDK, Scala, and even Operating System, that you are successfully using?   • Error connecting to the application.

    Hi guys, let me explain you the current scenario. We have a asp.net application on framework 2 running on intranet(Windows 2003 Server and Sql Server 2000). Now we have a xp machine where we installed and configured IIS with a virtual directory pointing on the local Xp machine and this machine is connected to our intranet. We have copied the same application files of the server to this XP machine. But the thing is the connection string/database of the application is pointing towards the intranet server. The problem is when we try to run the application on the XP machine we get this error : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Is this query related or concerned with this site or stackoverflow ?
