    We recently bought some new hardware for a database server which we were intending to dedicate to the operation of PostgreSQL. However now we have the requirement to also run MySQL as some software we want to use only supports that database. Since the storage on this machine is the most suitable for hosting a DB, and we don't currently have the budget for more hardware,we're thinking of running both of them on the same server.   • How do I speed up load times on roaming profiles with Active Directory?

    I've done some reading and apparently the main obstacle to fast remote profile syncing is that Samba takes a long time to transfer lots of little files like cookies. After reading Roaming Profiles: Best Practices , I plan to use Folder Redirection, but I want my users to be able to login as rapidly as possible, even if it means that their data is still coming in when they reach their desktop. Is there a way to do this with GPO or a third party add-on that can load user profile data faster/speed up the login process for users?

    Hi Guys, How do you generally proceed for your package installations on Linux, for packages that are not part of your distrib's repos? On my side I am used to install in /opt. But since, I saw this doc on the Internet: http://www.pathname.com/fhs/. Now I am confused: apparently /usr/local would be also a possibility. What is the difference between both? If I were trolling IP's port 80 on and I came across such a page I'd know it to be a high value target in the sense that if I can crack it, I can take control of the server to some extent (potentially installing another OS).     I am looking to setup SQL 2008 R2 clustering on Windows Server 2008 R2. Can someone give me some options available for installing SQL Server clustering or best practices? I thought SQL had clustering built in, but after doing research, it looks like you first have to install Windows clustering and then install SQL on top of that.

  • What is the proper position for the loopback address in a DNS server selection list?

    Best practices indicate that one should list 127.0.0.1 in the DNS list for the network adapter configuration for a Domain Controller, but not as the first one. With that said, what is the best place to put it in a list with more than two DNS servers listed? Second, last, or it doesn't matter? Also helpful would be an explanation as to why.   • Backup system, two locations. Recommendations?

    Hi there, I have two servers running Ubuntu 10.10, placed at two different locations. One is production, and one development. I wondered, if any of you had experience with backing up, best practices and alike. I think a smart solution would be to backup the data on the production server to the development server. Also, I have looked into visualization, but it seems like an overkill, assuming the servers only server about 8 users in a small company.

If the owner of the database is disabled, what would stop working?
