  • Take data from an XML file and put it into a MySQL database

    - by Aidan
Hi Guys, I'm looking to construct a script that would go through an XML file. Would find specific tags in it, put them in a table and fill the table with specific tags within them. I'm using MySQL 5.1 so loadXML isn't an option and I think that ExtractData() method wont be much use either.. but I don't really know. What would be the best way to go about this?

  • Online Game programming in Google App Engine: AI

    - by Hortinstein
I am currently in the planning stages of a game for google app engine, but cannot wrap my head around how I am going to handle AI. I intend to have persistant NPCs that will move about the map, but short of writing a program that generates the same XML requests I use to control player actions, than run it on another server I am stuck on how to do it. I have looked at the Task Queue feature, but due to long running processes not being an option on the App engine, I am a little stuck. I intend to run multiple server instances with 200+ persistant NPC entities that I will need to update. Most action is slowly roaming around based on player movements/concentrations, and attacking close range players(you can probably guess the type of game im developing)

  • Clear sqlalchemy reflection cache

    - by OrganicPanda
Hi all, I'm using sqlalchemy's reflection tools to get a Table object. I do this because these tables are dynamic and tables/columns can change. Here's the code I'm using: def getTableByReflection(self, tableName, metadata, engine): return Table(tableName, metadata, autoload = True, autoload_with = engine) The problem is that when the above code is run twice it seems to return the same results regardless of whether or not the columns have changed. I have tried refreshing using the mysession.refresh(mytable) but that fails because the table is not attached to any metadata - which makes sense but then why am I seeing cached results? Is there any way to tell the metadata/engine/session to forget about this table and let me load it cleanly?

  • How to make zebra table with Sphinx? Or how to use jQuery with Sphinx?

    - by prosseek
I think the table generated from Sphinx is not pretty, as it produces the following HTML code for table. <table border="1" class="docutils"> <colgroup> <col width="43%" /> <col width="29%" /> <col width="29%" /> </colgroup> <thead valign="bottom"> <tr><th class="head">Graph</th> <th class="head">HIR</th> <th class="head">AIR</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody valign="top"> <tr><td>Graph</td> <td>Circuit</td> <td>System</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> How can I turn in into pretty one, for example, zebra table? The HTML generated html has the jQuery, and according to this site, it's just one line of code to have a zebra table, but I'm not sure how to use jQuery to make a zebra table. $("tr:nth-child(odd)").addClass("odd"); Q: How to use jQuery with Sphinx? Q: Is there any other way to have a zebra table with Sphinx?

  • How to sort a Pandas DataFrame according to multiple criteria?

    - by user1715271
I have the following DataFrame containing song names, their peak chart positions and the number of weeks they spent at position no 1: Song Peak Weeks 76 Paperback Writer 1 16 117 Lady Madonna 1 9 118 Hey Jude 1 27 22 Can't Buy Me Love 1 17 29 A Hard Day's Night 1 14 48 Ticket To Ride 1 14 56 Help! 1 17 109 All You Need Is Love 1 16 173 The Ballad Of John And Yoko 1 13 85 Eleanor Rigby 1 14 87 Yellow Submarine 1 14 20 I Want To Hold Your Hand 1 24 45 I Feel Fine 1 15 60 Day Tripper 1 12 61 We Can Work It Out 1 12 10 She Loves You 1 36 155 Get Back 1 6 8 From Me To You 1 7 115 Hello Goodbye 1 7 2 Please Please Me 2 20 92 Strawberry Fields Forever 2 12 93 Penny Lane 2 13 107 Magical Mystery Tour 2 16 176 Let It Be 2 14 0 Love Me Do 4 26 157 Something 4 9 166 Come Together 4 10 58 Yesterday 8 21 135 Back In The U.S.S.R. 19 3 164 Here Comes The Sun 58 19 96 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 63 12 105 With A Little Help From My Friends 63 7 I'd like to rank these songs in order of popularity, so I'd like to sort them according to the following criteria: songs that reached the highest position come first, but if there is a tie, the songs that remained in the charts for the longest come first. I can't seem to figure out how to do this in Pandas.

  • Looking for: nosql (redis/mongodb) based event logging for Django

    - by Parand
I'm looking for a flexible event logging platform to store both pre-defined (username, ip address) and non-pre-defined (can be generated as needed by any piece of code) events for Django. I'm currently doing some of this with log files, but it ends up requiring various analysis scripts and ends up in a DB anyway, so I'm considering throwing it immediately into a nosql store such as MongoDB or Redis. The idea is to be easily able to query, for example, which ip address the user most commonly comes from, whether the user has ever performed some action, lookup the outcome for a specific event, etc. Is there something that already does this? If not, I'm thinking of this: The "event" is a dictionary attached to the request object. Middleware fills in various pieces (username, ip, sql timing), code fills in the rest as needed. After the request is served a post-request hook drops the event into mongodb/redis, normalizing various fields (eg. incrementing the username:ip address counter) and dropping the rest in as is. Words of wisdom / pointers to code that does some/all of this would be appreciated.

  • Transferring binary file from web server to client

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
Usually, when I want to transfer a web server text file to client, here is what I did import cgi print "Content-Type: text/plain" print "Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=TEST.txt" print filename = "C:\\TEST.TXT" f = open(filename, 'r') for line in f: print line Works very fine for ANSI file. However, say, I have a binary file a.exe (This file is in web server secret path, and user shall not have direct access to that directory path). I wish to use the similar method to transfer. How I can do so? What content-type I should use? Using print seems to have corrupted content received at client side. What is the correct method?

  • decorating a function and adding functionalities preserving the number of argument

    - by pygabriel
I'd like to decorate a function, using a pattern like this: def deco(func): def wrap(*a,**kw): print "do something" return func(*a,**kw) return wrap The problem is that if the function decorated has a prototype like that: def function(a,b,c): return When decorated, the prototype is destroyed by the varargs, for example, calling function(1,2,3,4) wouldn't result in an exception. Is that a way to avoid that? How can define the wrap function with the same prototype as the decorated (func) one? There's something conceptually wrong?

  • Sphinx: some good customization examples?

    - by Mark Harrison
I've created a Sphinx document using sphinx-quickstart. Are there any good examples/tutorials about customizing the look? Specifically to modify the header and add a logo. Are there some projects with downloadable Sphinx docs? I would like to see how they've customized their look. update: Adding a logo is supported in the default setup, just not particularly well documented. Look in conf.py for the *_logo settings.`

  • Psycopg2 doesn't like table names that start with a lower case letter

    - by Count Boxer
I am running ActiveState's ActivePython 2.6.5.12 and PostgreSQL 9.0 Beta 1 under Windows XP. If I create a table with an upper case first letter (i.e. Books), psycopg2 returns the "Programming Error: relation "books" does not exist" error message when I run the select statement: execute("SELECT * FROM Books"). The same error is returned if I run: execute("SELECT * FROM books"). However, if I change the table to a lower case first name (i.e. books), then either of the above statements works. Are tables name supposed to have a lower case first name? Is this a setting or a feature or a bug? Am I missing something obvious?

  • Recursion function not working properly

    - by jakecar
I'm having quite a hard time figuring out what's going wrong here: class iterate(): def init(self): self.length=1 def iterated(self, n): if n==1: return self.length elif n%2==0: self.length+=1 self.iterated(n/2) elif n!=1: self.length+=1 self.iterated(3*n+1) For example, x=iterate() x.iterated(5) outputs None. It should output 6 because the length would look like this: 5 -- 16 -- 8 -- 4 -- 2 -- 1 After doing some debugging, I see that the self.length is returned properly but something goes wrong in the recursion. I'm not really sure. Thanks for any help.

  • PHP's form bracket trick is to Django's ___?

    - by Matt
In PHP you can create form elements with names like: category[1] category[2] or even category[junk] category[test] When the form is posted, category is automatically turned into a nice dictionary like: category[1] => "the input value", category[2] => "the other input value" Is there a way to do that in Django? request.POST.getlist isn't quite right, because it simply returns a list, not a dictionary. I need the keys too.
