• Send an email whenever file is deleted from shared folder in windows 7

  I am running a software on several computers at my workplace and the software can run different audio and video files stored on a shared folder in a central computer. The software runs on windows 7 and every person in my company can add or remove files from the shared folder, but this privilege puts the data at risk. I was thinking of creating an email alert to my self whenever a file is deleted. I have written a windows powershell script for sending me emails from smtp server but how can I hook it up to the event of file or folder deletion in a specific shared folder?

• POP Forums v10 beta posted for ASP.NET MVC 4

  Finally got some momentum and replaced the beta formerly known as v9.3. You can get it here, where you’ll find the information below. You can also read my previous post on why I ditched jQuery Mobile. This is the beta for POP Forums v10, with the mobile special sauce. It requires ASP.NET MVC 4 RC, which you can download here. Uses a very light weight CSS and Javascript package to provide a touch-friendly interface for mobile devices. Numbers are formatted (sensitive to culture) when 1,000 or higher. CSS is more integration friendly, and specific to the ForumContainer element. Mail delivery from queue is now parallel, so you can specify a sending interval, and the number of messages to process on each interval. Background "services" refactored, and will only run with a call on app start to PopForumsActivation.StartServices(). This is partly to facilitate future use in Web farms/multiple Web roles. Update to jQuery v1.7.1. Replaced use of .live() with .on() in script, pursuant to jQuery update, which deprecates .live(). FIX: Bug in topic repository around caching keys for single-server data layer. FIX: Pager links on recent topics pointed to incorrect route. FIX: Deleting a post didn't update last user/post time. FIX: Ditched attempt at writing to event log with super failures, since almost no one has permission in production. FIX: Bug in grayed-out fields in admin mail setup. • Running evrouter at boot with init.d, or after xserver starts

  I'm using evrouter to set up mouse button binds, and init.d to start it. If evrouter requires xserver to be up, how do I get init to wait until after xserver starts to run this script? If xserver restarts will this script run automatically? Running this with sudo services evrouter start still results in this error, can init.d scripts not tell where my display is? (Not exactly familiar with init, runlevels, etc)

• Windows Server 2003 Standby/Sleep Results in Cold Boot when Resuming

  I'm running Windows Server 2003 sp2 on a Dell Inspiron e1705. There has never been a problem going to standby/sleep mode (by closing the laptop lid, or from the Start menu), and then resuming later. Today I did a Windows Update to install the latest patches and fixes. I don't know if there is a correlation, but now when I resume from standby/sleep mode, the machine does a cold boot. The AC adapter is connected. The battery is 2 months old, and all its LEDs light up when pressing its test button. The Power Management shows it at "99% (charging)" all the time. There is nothing suspicious in any of the event logs. Any ideas?

• How do I prevent IIS 8 from stopping idle ASP.NET applications?

  I have an asp.net application running on Windows 2012 in IIS 8 that has a very time consuming application start process (essentially the code running in the Application_Start() event can take up to 2 minutes). Thus I'd like to minimize the number of times the application is started so that the user can avoid a long wait. I've enabled Preload in the application settings, and I've set the Start Mode to AlwaysRunning in the application pool. Yet the application still ends after not being used for a while, resulting in a very long time for the first visit to the website after the application shuts down. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can prevent this? Thanks

• "A device attached to the system is not functioning" when reconnecting to XenApp 6 session

  A few of our XenApp 6 customers are seeing issue sometimes when users move from one workstation to another and try to connect to their running session. An error box pops up with "A device attached to the system is not functioning" This is on healthy 2008 R2 servers with all Citrix hotfixes applied. After the error, the user's session must be logged out before they can get back in. This was posted here: http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?threadID=273457 , but is not answered. There is nothing telling in the event logs, and it is an inconsistent problem. Has anyone else seen this issue of found a fix?

• Can't install Apache 2.2.22 on Ubuntu 13.10

  My work environment requires Apache 2.2.22 instead of the latest version of 2.4. My machine is currently running Ubuntu 13.10. When I use Synaptic or apt-get it will not allow me to choose an older version of Apache than 2.4. So my question is, how can I force an install of Apache 2.2.22 on Ubuntu 13.10 using Synaptic or apt-get. When I do try to specify the version I get the following: sudo apt-get install apache2=2.2.22-1ubuntu1 [sudo] password for b18c1: Reading package lists... • Windows Server Backup - Can I restore to a particular revision?

  I'm using Windows Server Backup in Windows Server 2008 to do a scheduled daily backup to a dedicated hard-drive on the server. I noticed that under "All backups" it says I have 45 copies. Does this mean that I can restore to any revision of my data upon system failure? If the answer is yes, then I don't have to worry about taking monthly or weekly snapshots of my data. I'm concerned about a data corruption event occurring that working its way into my backups... then not having a clean snapshot to go back to. Thanks!

• Can't connect to sql server 2008 named instance

  I have sql server 2005 and 2008 running on a server on my local (and very straightforward) network. Using sql management studio 2008 and visual studio 2008, I can connect over the network to the 2005 instance which is the default instance. I can't connect to the 08 instance (named MC08). I can connect to both when logged in to the server. Remote connections have been enabled for MC08 and dynamic ports is turned off (assigned to port 1045). The sql browser service is running as well. This used to work so I'm not sure what has changed. I can't connect using the IP address either. Nothing unusual in the event log either. Any ideas?

• Implementing MVC pattern in SWT application

  I am developing an SWT application (it's basically an Eclipse plugin, so I need to use SWT). Currently my design is as follows: Model: In model, I have POJOs which represents the actual fields in views. View: It is a dumb layer, it contains just UI and contains no logic (not even event handlers) Controller: It acts as a mediator b/w those two layers. Also it is responsible for creating view layer, handling events etc. Basically I have created all of the controls in view as a static like this public static Button btnLogin and in controller I have a code like this: public void createLoginView(Composite comp) { LoginFormView.createView(comp); //This createView method is in view layer ie LoginFormView LoginFormView.btnLogin.addSelectionListener(new SelectionListener() { //Code goes here }); } Similalrly I have done for other views and controls. So that in main class and other classes I am calling just createLoginView of controller. I am doing similar thing for other views. So my question, is what I am doing is correct? Is this design good? Or I should have followed any other approach. Since I am new to SWT and Eclipse plugin development (basically I am Java EE developer having 4+ years of exp). Any tips/pointers would be appreciated.

• How to ...set up new Java environment - largely interfaces...

  Hi, Looks like I need to setup a new Java environment for some interfaces we need to build. Say our system is X and we need to interfaces to systems A, B and C. Then we will be writing interfaces X-A, X-B, X-C. Our system has a bus within it, so the publishing on our side will be to the bus and the interface processes will be taking from the bus and mapping to the destination system. Its for a vendor based system - so most of the core code we can't touch. Currently thinking we will have several processes, one per interface we need to do. The question is how to structure things. Several of the APIs we need to work with are Java based. We could go EJB, but prefer to keep it simple, one process per interface, so that we can restart them individually. Similarly SOA seems overkill, although I am probably mixing my thoughts about implementations of it compared to the concepts behind it... Currently thinking that something Spring based is the way to go. In true, "leverage a new tech if possible"-style, I am thinking maybe we can shoe horn some jruby into this, perhaps to make the APIs more readable, perhaps event-machine-like and to make the interface code more business-friendly, perhaps even storing the mapping code in the DB, as ruby snippets that get mixed in... but thats an aside... So, any comments/thoughts on the Spring approach - anything more up-to-date/relevant these days. EDIT: Looking a JRuby further, I am tempted to write it fully in JRuby... in which case do we need any frameworks at all, perhaps some gems to make things clearer... Thanks in advance, Chris

• Fedora14 serial console how-to needed

  Has anyone ever got a serial console working in fedora 14 ? Is it as simple as adding to grub: serial --unit=0 --speed=38400 terminal --timeout=10 serial console and add to the kernel lines: console=tty0 console=ttyS0,38400 ??? If so, this isn't working for me. I have agetty installed, and im using minicom, although i've heard you can also use "screen /dev/ttyUSB0" on the client side. The /etc/init/serial.conf file suggests it should be working, but nothing. Currently getting no joy from any of this after 2 days. Does anyone know a method that definitely works on fedora 14 ? (no /etc/event.d/ needed or such) edit: Client side im using a null modem cable and usb-serial adaptor.

• Using group policy preferences to push a file to C:\Windows on a restricted user.

  We have a really old Video learning program that we need to run from the network for our students. However it uses Director Player 6.0 and the students get the error: "Unable to copy the driver file C:\Windows\xobglu16.dll to your Windows directory. Your disk may be full" Now the solution I've read is to copy the files manually to each machine and mark them read-only. I'm trying to do this via GPP, but the Event log is showing an Access is denied error. I believe it is because the student accounts do not have permission to c:\windows. Any ideas on a work around without using a script?

• Page_BlockSubmit - reset it to False, if there is a scenario when page doesn't postback on validation error

  Recently, I was facing a problem where if there was a validation error, and if I changed the state of checkbox it won't postback on first attempt. But when I uncheck and check again , it postbacks on second attempt...this is some quirky behaviour in .ASP.Net platform. The solution was to reset Page_BlockSubmit flag to false and it works fine. The following explanation is from http://lionsden.co.il/codeden/?p=137&cpage=1#comment-143   Submit button on the page is a member of vgMain, so automatically it will only run the validation on that group. A solution is needed that will run validation on multiple groups and block the postback if needed. Solution Include the following function on the page: function DoValidation() { //validate the primary group var validated = Page_ClientValidate('vgPrimary ');   //if it is valid if (validated) { //valid the main group validated = Page_ClientValidate('vgMain'); }   //remove the flag to block the submit if it was raised Page_BlockSubmit = false;   //return the results return validated; } Call the above function from the submit button’s OnClientClick event. <asp:Button runat="server" ID="btnSubmit" CausesValidation="true" ValidationGroup="vgMain" Text="Next" OnClick="btnSubmit_Click" OnClientClick="return DoValidation();" /> What is Page_BlockSubmit When the user clicks on a button causing a full post back, after running Page_ClientValidate ASP.NET runs another built in function ValidatorCommonOnSubmit. Within Page_ClientValidate, Page_BlockSubmit is set based on the validation. The postback is then blocked in ValidatorCommonOnSubmit if Page_BlockSubmit is true. No matter what, at the end of the function Page_BlockSubmit is always reset back to false. If a page does a partial postback without running any validation and Page_BlockSubmit has not been reset to false, the partial postback will be blocked. In essence the above function, RunValidation, acts similar to ValidatorCommonOnSubmit. It runs the validation and then returns false to block the postback if needed. Since the built in postback is never run, we need to reset Page_BlockSubmit manually before returning the validation result.

  During an early career of mine as a database consultant – when I was dealing with SQL Server 2000, I often needed to collect various data related to SQL Server. My favorite tool to collect the data is PSSDIAG tool. It is a general purpose diagnostic collection utility that Microsoft Product Support Services uses to collect various logs and data files. It collects Performance Monitor logs, SQL Profiler traces, SQL Server blocking script output, Windows Event Logs, and SQLDIAG output. The data collected can be used by SQL Nexus tool which help you troubleshoot SQL Server performance problems. PSSDIAG is a wrapper around other data collection APIs and utilities, the performance impact of running PSSDIAG is generally equal to the impact of the traces that PSSDIAG has been configured to capture. If you are using SQL Server 2000 – you need to seriously consider to upgrading it to SQL Server 2012. Here is a PSSDIAG Data Collection Utility updated in August 2012. • Cannot open any applications on windows server 2008 R2 Standard edition

  I have a server running on Windows server 2008 R2. It is recently added as a member of a domain. I am not able to start any applications in thew server. When I tried to open Event viewer it errored out saying "The page file is to small to complete the action". I am experiencing same problem when I tried to open Sql server Management studio, task scheduler or any other application. The windows server serves as a production database server, but our applications are not experiencing any problems. Can someone please help?

  It has been another fantastic year for TechEd North America.  I always love my time here.  First, I have to give a huge thank you to Ineta for giving me the opportunity to work the Ineta booth and BOF’s (birds of a feather).   I can not even begin to list how many fantastic leaders in the .Net space and Developers from all over I have met through Ineta at this event.  It has been truly amazing and great fun!! • Oracle SOA Suite, the Most Capable Tool for Every Possible Integration Challenge

  session ID: CON8601 - when: Monday, Oct. 1, 10:45am-11:45am - where: Moscone South 102 "Oracle SOA Suite, the Most Capable Tool for Every Possible Integration Challenge" is the name of the session I will be delivering at Oracle OpenWorld this year. I'm usually going for more subdued titles but decided to remove the gloves this year, at the risk of sounding arrogant! While we have a number of worthy competitors in various areas of integration no one can really compete with the breadth and reliability of Oracle SOA Suite. This session is primarily intended for people who are not yet familiar with Oracle SOA Suite (i.e. if you are an existing customer your time might be better spent at some of the other sessions we have on the topic). I will provide an overview of Oracle SOA Suite, the customers using it and the types of challenges they are solving with it: from integrating Oracle Applications (E-Business Suite, Siebel, PeopleSoft, RightNow, Taleo etc.) to third-party applications (did you know that over a third of our customers actually use us to integrate SAP?), mainframes and a variety of technologies. We will talk about some emerging trends and problems that our users are solving with the product: cloud integration, B2B consolidation and mobile-enablement. I will also briefly touch upon the exciting projects we are doing with Oracle Event Processing, in the domain of "Fast Data" and "Big Data". Last but not least, I will be joined on stage by Venktesh Maudgalya, Director at Electronic Arts. Venktesh will bring his customer perspective and explain how EA leveraged Oracle SOA Suite to implement iHub, the massive integration hub that interconnects all their applications (E-BusinessSuite, Hyperion, Demantra, Peoplesoft, Salesforce.com, Kronos, Teradata, GXS etc.) and carries 3/4 of their revenue flows. I just picked up my badge and will be kicking off the festivities tomorrow talking to partners in a pre-OOW briefing at the Oracle Headquarters - see you next week!
