  Hello I have this in my .htaccess file, in the site root: Options -Indexes <directory ../.*> Deny from all </directory> <Files .htaccess> order allow,deny deny from all </Files> <Files index.php> Order allow,deny allow from all </Files> What I'm trying to achieve is to block folder and file access to anything that isn't called index.php, regardless of which directory is accessed. I have the folder part working perfectly and the deny from all rule is working as well - but my attempt to allow access to index.php is failing. Basically could someone tell me how to get it working?

• Installing packages in R path[1]="\file/users/bernard/R/win-library/2.15": Access is denied

  I recently attended an R training course and was happily working with a laptop in RStudio. On my return to the office I installed RStudio and I tried to run some scripts I had gathered from the course. However, these scripts required me to install packages and when I tried to install the packages the result was an error. Error in install.packages : path[1]="\file/users/bernard/R/win-library/2.15": Access is denied In my firm we write to a server drive refferred to as the U: drive rather than the hard disk on the desktop for security reasons. Any ideas what is going on? I have checked the properties of the folder in windows and it says I have permission but still it fails. I have tried creating a folder on the C drive and directing R_LIBS_USER to it but no luck.

  I need a recovery software that has the features of reclaime file recovery. Those are, to be able to read image files, to keep folder structure, to be as efficient but to be free. I can't afford reclaime and all free software that i know out there either support folder structure but cannot read an image of the array created or the opposite. Can somebody suggest some software? PS: I used reclaime to create an image of my RAID0 broken array and with reclaime file recovery i can see all my files intact but i cannot recover without purchase.

• Search SSIS packages for table/column references

  A lot of companies now use TFS or some other system and keep all their packages in a single project. This means that a copy of all the packages will end up on your local disk. There is major failing with SSIS that it is sometimes quite difficult to find what a package is actually doing, what it accesses and what it affects. This is a simple dos script which will search through all packages in a folder for a string and write the names of found packages to an output file. Just copy the text to a .bat file (I use aaSearch.bat) in the folder with all the package scripts Change the output filename (twice), change the find string value and run it in a dos window. • How to allow program updates without prompting UAC?

  We have about 15-20 users who have this software installed. We have UAC enabled through GPO as you should, which means the software prompts for admin approval if a standard user trys to install it. Thats fine, they can call the help desk to have the software installed. My problem is, our help desk is being bombarded every day because users can't update the software and there are updates almost every day which is prompting UAC. Using procmon.exe to find out where it was trying to write to, I then created a GPO to allow file permission access to the program files folder for this particular software, including the program data folder, but it still prompts for admin approval. It seems as though that the software is using msiexec.exe to run a .msp patch file. The only "ACCESS DENIED"s I can still see in procmon is things like this: What can I possibly do to stop this software from prompting UAC with admin password credentials aside from disabling UAC?

• Updating the $PATH for running an command through SSH with LDAP user account

  Hi all, I am setting up a Mac OSX 1.6 server to host Git repositories. As such we need to push commits to the server through SSH. The server has only an admin account and uses a user list from a LDAP server. Now, since it is accessing the server through a non interactive shell, git operations are not able to complete since git executables are not in the default path. As the users are network users, they do not have a local home folder. So I cannot use a ~/.bashrc and the like solution. I browsed over several articles here and there but could not get it working in a nice and clean setup. Here are the infos on the methods I gathered so far: I could update the default PATH environment to include the git executables folder. However, I could not manage to do it successfully. Updating /etc/paths didn't change anything and since it's not an interactive shell, /etc/profile and /etc/bashrc are ignored. From the ssh manpage, I read that a BASH_ENV variable can be set to get an optional script to be executed. However I cannot figure how to set it system wide on the server. If it needs to be set up on the client machine, this is not an acceptable solution. If someone has some info on how it is supposed to be done, please, by all means! I can fix this problem by creating a .bashrc with PATH correction in the system root (since all network users would start here as they do not have home). But it just feels wrong. Additionally, if we do create a home folder for an user, then the git command would fail again. I can install a third party application to set up hooks on the login and then run a script creating a home directory with the necessary path corrections. This smells like a backyard tinkering and duct tape solution. I can install a small script on the server and ForceCommand the sshd to this script on login. This script will then look for a command to execute ($SSH_ORIGINAL_COMMAND) and trigger a login shell to run this command, or just trigger a regular login shell for an interactive session. • CentOS (rel6) with default python 2.6, but seperate 3.3.5 installation

  I have a CentOS server (rel6) that had python installed (2.6), but I needed a few features in 3.3+. I installed 3.3 into a seperate folder and made a symbolic link to execute it: I installed setup tools: yum install python-setuptools I installed a needed module"pandas" easy_install pandas I executed my pyton script, which encountered an error that required i use a newer version I downloaded and installed Python 3.3.5 to it's own folder so as to not override my default python wget http://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.3.5/Python-3.3.5.tar.xz tar xJf ./Python-3.3.5.tar.xz cd ./Python-3.3.5 ./configure --prefix=/opt/python make make install Made s symbolic link to allow me to execute this new python: ln -s /opt/python3.3/bin/python3.3 ~/bin/py The problem is that when I execute the python script with my new py alias, it does not have all the addons needed (explicitly MySQLdb) which the default install does. How do i go about installing the MySQLdb module, or any for that matter, to be reachable or useable for the new Python 3.3.5 installation? Or is there a way to make the current modules in 2.6 available to 3.3.5 as well?

• Wget - if / else download condition?

  I want wget to prefer a certain filetype over another, if the files have the same basename. For example: if foo.ogg available, don't download foo.mp3 the way i use wget so far to crawl/automatically download (if anyone is interested): wget -Dfoo.com -I /folder/ -r -l 1 -nc -A.ogg,.mp3 -i http://www.foo.com/folder/ but this, of course, gets me .mp3 AND .ogg files. It often also gets me image files like .png which i didn't want in the first place, and discards them afterwards. Any Ideas? (Syntax-Explanation: -D: download only from this Domain -I: download only from this subfolder of Domain -r: recursive (follow links and directory structure) -l 1: follow only 1 link deep -nc: no clobber = download only if file doesn't exist -A: accept/download only all *.ogg and *.mp3 (discard necessary html-files) -i: download-url/starting point)

• Speed up loading of test results from builds in Visual Studio

  I still see people complaining about the long time it takes to load test results from a TFS build in Visual Studio. And they make a valid point, it does take a very long time to load the test results, even for a small number of tests. The reason for this is that the test results is not just the result of the test run but also all the binaries that were part of the test run. This often also means that the debug symbols (*.pdb) will be downloaded to your local machine. This reason for this behaviour is that it letsyou re-run the tests locally. However, most of the times this is not what the developer will do, they just want to know which tests failed and why. They can then fix the tests and rerun them locally. It turns out there is a way to load only the test results, which is much faster. The only tricky bit is to find the location of the .trx file that is generated during the build. Particularly in TFS 2010 where you often have multiple build agents, which of corse results in different paths to the trx file. Note: To use this you must have read permission to the build folder on the build agent where the build was executed. Open the build result for the build Click View Log Locate the part where MSTest is invoked. When using test containers, it looks like this:   Note: You can actually search in the log window, press Ctrl+F and you will get a little search box at the bottom. Nice! On the MSTest command line call, locate the /resultsfileroot parameter, which points to the folder where the test results are stored Note that this path is local for the build server, so you need to replace the drive letter with the server name: D:\Builds\Project\TestResults to \Project\TestResults">\\<BuildServer>\Project\TestResults Double-click on the .trx file and you will notice that it loads much faster compared to opening it from the build log window

• How to force Debian to boot new Kernel?

  I'm running Debian 6, Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 under Grub2 ( 1.98+20100804-14+squeeze1) on a remote system (no possibility to view the pre-boot messages). I compiled and installed a new kernel, but I can not get it to boot. What I have done: Installed the packages via: dpkg -i linux-headers-3.5.3.20120914-amd64_3.5.3.20120914-amd64-10.00.Custom_amd64.deb linux-image-3.5.3.20120914-amd64_3.5.3.20120914-amd64-10.00.Custom_amd64.deb This updated the Grub configuration. Would there be any hints regarding problems with a kernel? Is there a way to enable debug-logging in grub? What am I doing wrong? How can I force the system to boot the new kernel? • Perl program not getting executed in xampp

  I am very new to CGI programming in Perl. In order to learn it i installed xampp 2 days back. But I am unable to execute my perl code . The code goes as folows: #!/usr/bin/perl use CGI; $co = new CGI; print $co->header, $co->start_html(title=>'CGI Example'), $co->center($co->hi('Subhayan welcome to CGI')), $co->end_html; Have saved the code in a text file named : Subhayan1.cgi and kept it in the folder cgi-bin under xampp folder in C drive. When i try to execute this through my web browser typing : "http://localhost/cgi-bin/Subhayan1.cgi" it comes up with a "Object not found page". I checked the apache configuration file under : xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf. I checked the entry : ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "C:/xampp/cgi-bin/" It looks like pointing to the correct directory. What is the issue here can anyone help please???

• Small change in MVVM Light Toolkit templates for Blend 4 RC

  Ah, the joy of new releases… You will find that the MVVM Light Toolkit works fine with Visual Studio 2010 RTM and Blend 4 RC except for a few adjustments: Blend templates The path to the Expression Blend 4 project templates changed. If you start Expression Blend 4 RC now, you will likely not see the MVVM Light templates in the New Project dialog.   New Project dialog with MVVM Light To restore the templates, follow the steps: Open Windows Explorer Navigate to C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Expression (or simply type My Documents in Windows Explorer and then open the Expression folder). Change the name of the “Blend 4 beta” folder into “Blend 4”. That’s it, you should now see the templates in the New Project dialog in Blend 4. Note that since the new name is “Blend 4”, I hope that I won’t need to do the same exercise when Blend 4 RTM is released! Windows Phone 7 templates Since the Windows Phone 7 tools are not ready yet for Visual Studio 2010 RTM and Blend 4 RC, the templates in the Silverlight for Windows Phone folders will not work. You will get an error if you try to create a new such project in the newly released environment. I hesitated to remove these templates from the current packages, but honestly that is a lot of trouble for a very short time before the tools for Windows Phone 7 are released (note: I don’t have any information as to when these tools will be released). In the mean time, just don’t create a WinPhone7 application. Reminder: If you want to write code for Windows Phone 7, you need to keep the Visual Studio 2010 RC as well as Expression Blend 4 beta.   I am using Windows 7 and I am looking for a list of the different parameters to use in the Target line of a shortcut in Windows Explorer. For example: /n forces it to open a new window, even if it duplicates a window that is already open. /e uses Windows Explorer view (multi-paned) /root,X restricts Explorer to showing only the contents of file folder X (and its sub-folders) /select,Y automatically selects Y (either a file or folder). What other parameters exist? I have been searching online and cannot find anything.

• Where is the encfs volume key stored?

  I am trying to use encfs in reverse mode. I understand that the passphase is used to encrypt a key which is then stored encrypted into the encfs6.xml file. What I do not understand is the following. Create en encrypted virtual fs of a folder by using passphrase A unmount this folder. Delete all contents including the encfs6.xml file If you then try to do the same with another passphrse I would expect that a new encfs6.xml would be created. However I get the following error message: "Error decoding volume key, password incorrect" So I wonder, what volume key is incorrect, I thought it was in the encfs6.xml file ?

• Create an alias in Windows XP

  Back in school, I used to have a .login file along the lines of alias ll = ls -l alias dir = ls -Fhl alias web = cd ~/public/public_www/development ... I'd like to do that sort of thing with my XP box here at work, but most of the resources I've found online seem fairly complicated and heavy-duty. Is there a way to do this that doesn't involve mucking about in the registry or running a large batch file? EDIT: My original reason for asking this was that I only need the command line for one command in one specific folder, and I wanted to be able to get to that folder quickly when I launched the command line. But the accepted answer for this question is so good that I decided to ask about my original issue as a separate question here.

I created a symlink using: ln -s /media/MYDISK /home/camilo/MYDISK chmod 777 /home/camilo/MYDISK I'm setting up smb.conf like this: [myshare1] comment = external disk browsable = yes path = /home/camilo/MYDISK guest ok = yes read only = no create mask = 0775 Also, in the [global] section I tried adding the following lines: follow symlinks = yes wide links = yes unix extensions = no The problem is that when browsing the shared folder in Windows 7, I get a "\\etc\myshare1 is not accessible" error. When pointing the path to a regular folder it works fine. Also, when I point it directly to /media/MYDISK, it shows the same error. EDIT: to make it more interesting, I have no graphical interface, so I need to touch the config files directly..

• Swap drive not operating correctly

  At first, I started seeing the warning signs. The halting pages. The molasses speed of the windows closing. The pictures not rendering. Then, I took action. Recently I added a swap drive to my computer. For a while, everything was good. Unicorns frolicked among the new bits and bytes resplendent on the shiny metal platter known as my swap drive. Today, I opened Chromium, and got on the 7th tab (start.csail.mit.edu) "He's dead, Jim!". This used to happen before I added my swap drive, but now I thought that it wouldn't happen because I added more memory. I fear for the safety of the unicorns. Please help me make my swap drive work again. • Lightweight Live Linux Image

  I am working on an application which is being developed in wxPython and C plus using linux core utilities and network support. To be more specific, I only need the following support for following packages/softwares/components. wxPython C Network Support Linux Utilities Vi File System(fdisk/parted, ntfsprogs etc) Basic(cp, mount/umount, mkdir etc) The application will run from a live CD. Currently i am using Fedora 12 with Gnome for live CD. Currently the size of live image is around 350 MB. The size of application is hardly 1 MB. I don't need anything else except above mentioned. Just my application and supporting packages, no desktop etc. So, I need a Lightweight Linux image as smaller as possible providing all the above mentioned packages/components. I am considering the following distributions: Xfce LXDE Fluxbox Enlightenment Any ideas/suggestions?

• Determining Performance Limits

  I have a number of windows processes that pass messages between them hat a high rate using tcp to local host. Aside from testing on actual hardware how can I assess what my hardware limit will be. These applications are not doing CPU intensive work, mostly decomposing and combining messages, scanning over them for special flag in the data etc.. The message size is typically 3k and the rate is typically ~10k messages per second. ~30MB per second between processing stages. There may be 10 or more stages depending. For this type of application, what should I look to for assessing performance? What do I look for in a server performance wise? I am currently running an XEON L5408 with 32 GB ram. But I am assuming cache is more important than actual ram size as I am barely touching the ram.

• How could I let Skydrive desktop sync to MicroSD in Windows 8 tablet?

  I have a Samsung Slate 7 tablet with (now) Windows 8 on it. This machine has a 64 Gb SSD and I have a 64 Gb MicroSD card in it. I also have a Skydrive on my main Microsoft ID that contains about 45 Gb of content. With Windows and some development stuff installed, my Skydrive will not fit on the main drive of the tablet. (Besides, my idea was to keep data on the memory card anyway, to make it easier to repave the machine without data loss if need be.) My problem should now be clear: I want to install the Skydrive desktop app to sync my Skydrive to the MicroSD card. This is not possible, as Skydrive does not allow syncing files to removable drives. I have tried a number of things already, but none of them worked: Use the mklink command line tool to create a directory link/junction from a folder name on SSD to a folder on the MicroSD and then try to install Skydrive sync to the SSD link folder. Skydrive however still recognizes this as something it does not want to sync onto. The various different filter drivers mentioned on Agnipulse (including the Hitachi one) that should make windows see some or all of the removable drives in the system as fixed drives do not seem work on (64-bit) Windows 8: they either can't be installed, do nothing and/or cause Windows 8 to go into Automatic Repair mode when rebooting. The Lexar BootIt app seems to be meant to flip the relevant bit in the on-board drive controller of supported USB pen drives, but I tried it anyway. Of course it did nothing to how the MicroSD card was seen. I have now run out of ideas, it seems, and I was wondering if anyone here has a solution to let Windows 8 see the MicroSD memory card in my tablet as a fixed drive instead of removable drive, or some other way of getting the Skydrive desktop to sync my Skydrive data to that MicroSD card. And to be complete: this is not a duplicate question of this or this as those ask about getting USB drives multiple partitions to work on Windows XP. This question is specific about getting desktop Skydrive to sync to MicroSD card in Windows 8, which seems to be a question I have not seen on superuser so far.

• High I/O latency with software RAID, LUKS encrypted and LVM partitioned KVM setup

  I found out a performance problems with a Mumble server, which I described in a previous question are caused by an I/O latency problem of unknown origin. As I have no idea what is causing this and how to further debug it, I'm asking for your ideas on the topic. I'm running a Hetzner EX4S root server as KVM hypervisor. The server is running Debian Wheezy Beta 4 and KVM virtualisation is utilized through LibVirt. The server has two different 3TB hard drives as one of the hard drives was replaced after S.M.A.R.T. errors were reported. The first hard disk is a Seagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS (512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical sector size), the other one a Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 (AF) ST3000DM001-9YN166 (512 bytes logical and physical sector size). There are two Linux software RAID1 devices. One for the unencrypted boot partition and one as container for the encrypted rest, using both hard drives. Inside the latter RAID device lies an AES encrypted LUKS container. Inside the LUKS container there is a LVM physical volume. The hypervisor's VFS is split on three logical volumes on the described LVM physical volume: one for /, one for /home and one for swap. Here is a diagram of the block device configuration stack: sda (Physical HDD) - md0 (RAID1) - md1 (RAID1) sdb (Physical HDD) - md0 (RAID1) - md1 (RAID1) md0 (Boot RAID) - ext4 (/boot) md1 (Data RAID) - LUKS container - LVM Physical volume - LVM volume hypervisor-root - LVM volume hypervisor-home - LVM volume hypervisor-swap - … (Virtual machine volumes) The guest systems (virtual machines) are mostly running Debian Wheezy Beta 4 too. We have one additional Ubuntu Precise instance. They get their block devices from the LVM physical volume, too. The volumes are accessed through Virtio drivers in native writethrough mode. The IO scheduler (elevator) on both the hypervisor and the guest system is set to deadline instead of the default cfs as that happened to be the most performant setup according to our bonnie++ test series. The I/O latency problem is experienced not only inside the guest systems but is also affecting services running on the hypervisor system itself. The setup seems complex, but I'm sure that not the basic structure causes the latency problems, as my previous server ran four years with almost the same basic setup, without any of the performance problems. On the old setup the following things were different: Debian Lenny was the OS for both hypervisor and almost all guests Xen software virtualisation (therefore no Virtio, also) no LibVirt management Different hard drives, each 1.5TB in size (one of them was a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS, the other one I can't tell anymore) We had no IPv6 connectivity Neither in the hypervisor nor in guests we had noticable I/O latency problems According the the datasheets, the current hard drives and the one of the old machine have an average latency of 4.12ms.

Requirement: One move should cross one track. On every move(left or right), I want the car to reach exact centre of the next track on either sides i.e left or right. • Efficient Trie implementation for unicode strings

  I have been looking for an efficient String trie implementation. Mostly I have found code like this: Referential implementation in Java (per wikipedia) I dislike these implementations for mostly two reasons: They support only 256 ASCII characters. I need to cover things like cyrillic. They are extremely memory inefficient. Each node contains an array of 256 references, which is 4096 bytes on a 64 bit machine in Java. Each of these nodes can have up to 256 subnodes with 4096 bytes of references each. So a full Trie for every ASCII 2 character string would require a bit over 1MB. Three character strings? 256MB just for arrays in nodes. And so on. Of course I don't intend to have all of 16 million three character strings in my Trie, so a lot of space is just wasted. Most of these arrays are just null references as their capacity far exceeds the actual number of inserted keys. And if I add unicode, the arrays get even larger (char has 64k values instead of 256 in Java). Is there any hope of making an efficient trie for strings? I have considered a couple of improvements over these types of implementations: Instead of using array of references, I could use an array of primitive integer type, which indexes into an array of references to nodes whose size is close to the number of actual nodes. I could break strings into 4 bit parts which would allow for node arrays of size 16 at the cost of a deeper tree.
