• Merging two folders using git

  I'm working on a project with some people who have never used git before. Not knowing the capabilities of git, they created two version of the project: development and production. These two versions are both present in the current environment. To complicate things further, this other user created these folders in addition to the old development folder. So the project directory looks like this /root /proj (old dev folder with my own code in it) /dev_proj (new folder which I would like to merge /prod with) /prod_proj (production code) So what I'd like to do is merge the work that I've done in /proj with the work in the /dev_proj. Is there a way to do this with git? I've thought about creating a branch, copying all the files from /proj to /dev_proj and merging that branch with master. Would this work? Thanks and if I could clarify something let me know.

• Calculating usage of localStorage space

  I am creating an app using the Bespin editor and HTML5's localStorage. It stores all files locally and helps with grammar, uses JSLint and some other parsers for CSS and HTML to aid the user. I want to calculate how much of the localStorage limit has been used and how much there actually is. Is this possible today? I was thinking for not to simply calculate the bits that are stored. But then again I'm not sure what more is there that I can't measure myself.

When i use openquery i can overcome this by setting this: SET FMTONLY OFF. Does anyone know if there's a similar workaround for my problem?

• What are the things I use every day programmed with?

  It isn't so interesting to find out what this text editor here or that IRC client there was programmed with, also it isn't really hard and neither are there really suprising things to come out. Wow so it was programmed in Python, I didn't expect that. What I'm asking is: What are the things that we daily see, use or generally need programmed with? To name a few (really only a few of those out there): My alarm clock It has many features so it would probably be hard programming it with assembler or whatever, so did they probably use a programming language? If yes, which? My electrical tooth brush The (stupid) board computer of my car. (6 years old, has few features but a red LED display showing me how cold/warm it is outside and how much gas I'm using up per hour at the moment) Those (old) plastic mini-mini computers with the LCD(?) displays that only had one game available on them: PacMan, tetris or so. I'm not directly thinking of this but it may be similar: Other, probably more interesting, things I didn't mention

• TableAdapter to return ONLY selected columns? (VS2008)

  (VS2008) I'm trying to configure a TableAdapter in a Typed DataSet to return only a certain subset of columns from the main schema of the table on which it is based, but it always returns the entire schema (all columns) with blank values in the columns I have omitted. The TableAdpater has the default Fill and GetData() methods that come from the wizard, which contain every column in the table, which is fine. I then added a new parameterized query method called GetActiveJobsByCustNo(CustNo), and I only included a few columns in the SQL query that I actually want to be in this table view. But, again, it returns all the columns in the master table schema, with empty values for the columns I omitted. The reason I am wanting this, is so I can just get a few columns back to use that table view with AutoGenerateColumns in an ASP.NET GridView. With it giving me back EVERY column i nthe schema, my presentation GridView contains way more columns that I want to show th user. And, I want to avoid have to declare the columns in the GridView.

I'm intending to use Git for CVS, and I'm interested to see what guidelines or standards people are using around CVS in their groups, similar to coding standards are often written within the group for the group. I'm assuming there will be things like; Commit often (at least every day/week/meeting etc) Release builds are always made from the master branch Prior to release, a new branch will be created for Testing and tagged as such. only bug fixes from this point onwards. The final release of this will be tagged as such and the bug fixes merged back into the trunk Each developer will have a public repo New features should get their own branch Obviously a lot of this will depend on what cvs you're using and how you've structured it. • Web Service in c# - "This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace."

  I've created a web service using Visual Studio ( 2005 - I know I'm old school ) and it all compiles fine but when it opens I get warned thus: This web service does not conform to WS-I Basic Profile v1.1. And furthermore: This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace. Which would be fine except my service begins thus: [WebService(Namespace = "http://totally-not-default-uri.com/servicename")] Searching the entire solution folder for "tempuri" returns nothing. I can't find it mentioned in any configuration page acessible from Visual Studio. And yet it's right there in the wsdl:definitions list for the xmlns:tns attribute on the web service descriptor page when I view it through the browser and as targetNamespace in the same tag. I'm viewing it using Visual Studio's "debug" mode with the built in server from that. Seems like something has got cached somewhere but I can't work out what and where- I've tried stopping and restarting the server, cleaning and rebuilding the service and going through the associated text config files with a text editor but no dice. Any idea what is going on?

• Where can I find simple beta cdf implementation.

  I need to use beta distribution and inverse beta distribution in my project. There is quite good but complicated implementation in GSL, but I don't want to use such a big library only to get one function. I would like to either, implement it on my own or link some simple library. Do you know any sources that could help me? I'm looking for any books/articles about numerical approximation of beta PDF, libraries where it could be implemented. Any other suggestions would be also appreciated. Any programming language, but C++/C# preffered.

• Why can't I publish MVC project

  I'm having problems publishing my MVC project. When I do publish and upload everything to web server I get this: [InvalidOperationException: The view 'Index' or its master could not be found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx ~/Views/Home/Index.ascx ~/Views/Shared/Index.aspx ~/Views/Shared/Index.ascx] Weird thing is that Index.aspx exists in ~/Views/Home/, but IIS cannot find it there. If I copy entire project to web server and let asp.net compile it on the fly it works like a charm. • JLabel withing another JLabel

  I want to do a very simple thing with java swing and I'm not being able to. I added a jLabel as it is the only object using java swing that can hold an image (using the icon property)...at least I wasn't able to set an image using other objects. Now I want to add another jlabel in top of the first one with another image so it can be "clicked" independently from the "background" label. But whenever I try to add it using the graphical editor or by doing jLabel1.add(jLabel2) it doesn't work...it simply sets next to the label1 but not on top of it. This is in order to do a java application like the Tic Tac Toe game...so I can have the background which are squares (first label) and the others the "X" and "O". board This might be the board and I want to put labels on each square so they can be the pieces.

Previously I have used OpenOffice UNO SDK, but I have found some problems with particular documents. Now, the conversion is ok, but the conversion time is huge.   The title probably says it all. Considering an ipad's processor is nothing compared to a macbook, I would think a Macbook should be more than capable to run the simulator. However, not knowing much about iphone/ipad development, I'd like to get some opinions on this. for e.g. how many apps are typically need to be run for ipad dev (editor, debugger, perf monitor, trace log, etc). are these apps resource (memory, cpu) intensive? please do not take into consideration the actual image, 3d, video, sound development. I understand one would need quite a beefy machine to produce these type of creative assets. What I'm looking at is a machine to do code development, physics, putting together the produced assets (images, vector graphics, 3d video, sound, etc).

  I currently have a GridPanel with the Ext.ux.RowEditor plugin. Four fields exist in the row editor: port, ip address, subnet and DHCP. If the DHCP field (checkbox) of the selected row is checked, I need to make the other three fields un-editable. I've been trying to perform this code when the beforeedit event is triggered, but to no avail... I've only found ways to make the entire column un-editable. • Simple github fetch/merge not pulling in remote branch?

  I have a project I forked on github to my repository. I made changes on the "experiment" branch of the project the committed the project to my fork. If you go to my branch on Github you can see the that the experiment branch was correctly committed. I would like to merge the experiment branch with the original repo (which I have rights to). I issued the following commands: git clone [email protected]:originalrepo/theproject.git git checkout -b experiment origin/experiment cd theproject git remote add experiment [email protected]:chumofchance/theproject.git git fetch experiment git merge experiment "Already up to date" However, when I view the project in explorer, it appears that nothing has changed.   I've got the following Setup in my Theme: \App_Themes\Default\StyleSheet.css \App_Themes\Default\PrintStyleSheet.css The PrintStyleSheet.css file has a set of printing css rules set in them wrapped in an @Media Print { } block. I need a way to programmatically remove the PrintStyleSheet.css from the list of css files for ASP.NET to inject based on some flags. (Some instances we want to print the site verbatim without custom formatting). I know i could build a seperate theme without the PrintStyleSheet.css in it and switch the theme programmatically, however this would introduce duplication of my master stylesheet which is not acceptable. Any ideas?

• Load vs Get in Nhibernate

  The master page in my web application does authentication and loads up the user entity using a Get. After this whenever the user object is needed by the usercontrols or any other class I do a Load. Normally nhibernate is supposed to load the object from cache or return the persistent loaded object whenever Load of called. But this is not the behavior shown by my web application. NHprof always shows the sql whenever Load is called. How do I verify the correct behavior of Load? I use the S#arp architecture framework.

  Is there anyway to disable the rather annoying feature that Visual Studio (2008 in my case) has of copying the line (with text on it) the cursor is on when CTRL-C is pressed and no selection is made? I know of the option to disable copying blank lines. But this is driving me crazy as well. ETA: I'm not looking to customize the keyboard shortcut. I have been using http://rdoc.info/github/rails/arel/master/frames Am I approaching this incorrectly? Or am I a few methods away from a solution?

• Recover from inadvertent skip during rebase

  I just tried to rebase a very old branch with a minor modification onto my master. There was a problem with merging just one of the three files involved, so I did an unthinking --skip, thinking that it would just skip that file, but as it happened, it seems to have skipped all my changes, and rolled forwards. So now the rebase is finished, and my changes seem to have disappeared. I've seen the question about undoing rebase, but it's all greek to me, I see the reflog, but I don't know which commit the branch was attached to before the rebase. In any case, I don't really need to undo the rebase, I just want to be able to recover the changes in the two files. Is there anyway to do this properly (failing this, I'll just have to restore yesterday's backup of my repository and pick the bits out by hand).
