  • Challenging yourself as a programmer?

    We used to be a Coldfusion development shop before hopping over to PHP in 2008, now we primarily develop custom Drupal websites. I enjoyed going from CF to PHP, but I feel like I am getting a bit stale. I have been looking at different things like Ruby, Python, Obj C (iPhone). The problem is, there just isn't enough time in the day. What would be a fun new thing to learn that would refresh me a bit and challenge myself to learn more?

    I know that ASP.NET MVC 1.0 is bin-deployable as explained in Phil Haack's article. Is ASP.NET MVC 2.0 also bin-deployable? Has anyone done this already that can point out potential pitfalls specific to version 2.0 if there are any? I would like to deploy a relatively simple ASP.NET MVC 2.0 onto a Windows 2008 Web server that does not have ASP.NET MVC 2.0 installed. It is running .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1. Thanks!

    Hi all, We need to find a way to programatically *link all the tables* in a SQL Server database to an access db. We will be invoking this access database from a program that uses .net/SQL Server 2008. While invoking the application we would like to add the linked tables so that the users can just run the reports/modules from access without having to worry about linking the tables.     I have a product table where the description column is fulltext indexed. The problem is, users frequently search a single word, which happens to be in the noiseXXX.txt files. We'd like to keep the noise word functionality enabled, but is there anyway to turn it off just for this one column? I think you can do this in 2008 with the SET STOPLIST=OFF, but I can't seem to find similar functionality in SQL Server 2005.

I have Virtual PC installed so I can use Microsoft's IE compatibility images - are there any time-limited images that I can use with Virtual PC so I can check out IIS 7? The IIS 7 "Try it" link points to this page. But the VHS is for Windows Server platforms only I think and I don't want an ISO? Any advice?
