  Hello Folks I have this new requirement to develop a software which is a large scale image up loader in a web application. I was able to do the same using swing contains several feature like drag and drop, progress bar, remove file / files , modify, limit file size, verify file information, timer, verify at run time ..and its a very powerful tool which uploads images. I would like to do the same in web based app, like user selects 200 images process it and click upload and it should start uploading, like to know any feasible frameworks or any API's which help me do this faster and achieve the same kind of functionality. • Which technology should I choose for 3d globe web application

  Hello, i would like to ask you for an advice. I'm currently developing application in Spring consisting of Spring CRUD application as backend, SpringMVC application as tool for management and third part is where my problem lies as I need have application that renders 3d globe which is fed by data from backend from a data set selected by user (user may switch those at will). It has to be web application (though I would prefer not to implement this in flash/flex), composed of two main parts - main part is classic web GUI where user makes his choices and second part is 3d globe which renders the globe with selected set of data visualised. My question is, what do you think is the best option to implement this? Would be SpringMVC framework usable for this kind of application? I will be gratefull for any leads or directions, thank you.

  Hi folks: some methods in our model pojos have been annotated like this: @Column(name="cli_clipping_id", updatable=false, columnDefinition = "varchar(" + ModelUtils.ID_LENGTH + ") COLLATE utf8_bin") columnDefinition attribute is database vendor dependant, so when trying to drop schema in HSQLDB using Hibernate it fails: [ERROR] 16 jun 12:58:42.480 PM main [org.hibernate.tool.hbm2ddl.SchemaExport] Unexpected token: COLLATE in statement [create table cms.edi_editorial_obj (edi_uuid varchar(23) COLLATE ] To fix this, i'm thinking on this solution (but don't want to spend time if it isn't possible) , at runtime, for each method column annotated: Get @Column annotation Create a copy of the column annotation, setting columnDefinition null using javaassist. set column method annotation to the copy column annotation object overriding the old one (i don't know it this is possible) Is it possible to "hack" these methods this way? Any help would be much appreciated ...

• How to create a "dependency graph" for IT assets

  One of my customers is trying to create an interactive "matrix" of interdependencies for the various applications used in their company (it's a travel&leisure company with around 2500 employees). The idea (still at the prototype stage) is to create a sort of Map, based on Visio or similar tool, which traces the communication and interdependencies between all the IT assets in the company, so that when someone asks for a change they can get an overview of the impacts. This was mentioned in a casual setting and it will not be my responsability to directly work on this, but I did contribute the little I know already in terms of vaguely related methodologies (Zachman Framework). I'd like to hear from the people in here if they know of methodologies, or tools, that may help this kind of effort, and if they have any specific experience to contribute. I'll digest the answers and send the result back to my customer, hoping this may be of some help with their task (which I consider a bit visionary and prone to all the pitfalls of any documentation project, but still well worth pursuing).

• Anti-virus protection question?

  About 4 years ago, I found Kaspersky and have been using the most current version since. Most people try and argue the use of AVG or Avast to me, and there are some very solid reasons I do not go that route. Over the years, I have found Kasp to become bulkier and bulkier, and have had issues setting it up for friends/family/clients. I am just curios on possible recommendations from other users, with my criteria in mind: What I like about Kasp in the past: The license sold in stores in a 3 pack, is considered a commercial license, and emails from Kasp in response to my questions, make it clear that I can do with the 3 licenses that I want, providing I do not use more than 3 installs per Key. So, allowed me to buy 3, 5, and 7 packs, and resell to users at a cheaper cost than what they would pay if they bought their own license. The ability to easily obtain a currently updated .exe for installation on multiple peoples machines. Power of the scan. Kasp has been a good solution for me (even when using a trial license) on cleaning up machines that were badly infected (in which AVG and AVAST were unable to.) Speed of install/update. After a cleanup of malwarebytes, spybot, mcafee stinger, ccleaner, and combofix, I used to be able to get Kasp Int Security installed and updated in around 5 minutes. The issues that I have with the free AV, is strength of protection. In my opinion for someone who is a 'power use' these are good alternatives, because such a user should be trained or knowledgeable enough to be careful and not get themselves in trouble. Most of the users I assist, are too PC ignorant to know any better, and go hogwild on the web. It has been my experience that the number of people coming back to me with spyware/malware/virus issues since I have converted from AVG to Kasp has been cut down to around 20% of what it used to be 4 or 5 years ago. In a perfect world, I could install and use Kasp Internet Security 2008, and be very happy. But this is not the case anymore. So after this long description of what I used, and have used, does anyone have any good recommendations on AV that isn't going to cost me too much per install?

• How do I list all tables in all databases in SQL Server in a single result set?

  I am looking for T-SQL code to list all tables in all databases in SQL Server (at least in SS2005 and SS2008; would be nice to also apply to SS2000). The catch, however, is that I would like a single result set. This precludes the otherwise excellent answer from Pinal Dave: sp_msforeachdb 'select "?" AS db, * from [?].sys.tables' The above stored proc generates one result set per database, which is fine if you are in an IDE like SSMS that can display multiple result sets. However, I want a single result set because I want a query that is essentially a "find" tool: if I add a clause like WHERE tablename like '%accounts' then it would tell me where to find my BillAccounts, ClientAccounts, and VendorAccounts tables regardless of which database they reside in.

• Which JMS broker implementations allowing resending messages saved in dead message queue?

  I wonder, if there JMS broker, that allows administrators to resend (via GUI or any tool) messages, saved in a ded message queue or dead letter queue, after solving the causing problem (e.g. database is down, not enough space...). WebSphere provide a feature to resend messages saved in dead letter queue: 1 Glassfish 2.1.1 using Sun Java System Message Queue 4.4 has no feature to do this, I think so. What are the options on other JMS brokers? Or is the best way, not to use the DMQ/DLQ feature, if you are depend on a message? Thanks a lot

• eclipse wont include/identify user .h files and .o files

  i'm new to eclipse CDT, and try to use an existing .o file that was supplied with the proper .h file. eclipse just wont include it in the compilation process. i tryed drag&drop to the eclipse project browser, and the files did show there, but no use, still "No such file: No such file or directory". i tryed defining the .o file in the: project properties tool settings MinGW C Linker Miscellaneous other objects. didn't work either. as for the header file, i did try a workaround: created a new file in the project and named it after the file i want to include as header, then copied the content. and yet, the compiler/linker didn't recognize the object file. perhaps you can help?thank you

• Good IM/Chat solution for pasting code

We've been using Skype to host chats with all the developers, and it works okay except for one thing: It REALLY mangles any code we copy and paste into the chats -- especially the whitespace in Python. This question has tons of opinions about chat clients & servers, but no one has much to say about pasting in code.   Hi, This is a question about installing driver. I have the following files : aaa.cat aaa.inf x86\ttt.sys I can install this driver by clicking "update driver" in device manager. But now I need to install this driver on Windows (XP, Vista and Win7) by using C++. How could I do this? On the other hand, I can't use install shield or other tool to do the job. That is why I am asking this question. Thanks in advance. I have found this page, which mentioned SetupInstallFile and SetupInstallFileEx functions.   How does one create a JAR file programmatically using java.util.jar.JarOutputStream? The JAR file produced by my program looks correct (it extracts fine) but when I try loading a library from it Java complains that it cannot find files which are clearly stored inside it. If I extract the JAR file and use Sun's jar command-line tool to re-compress it the resulting library works fine. In short, something is wrong with my JAR file. Please explain how to create a JAR file programmatically, complete with a manifest file.

Sounds like this would be something pretty simple to write, but I simply don't have the bandwidth and want to use something already written.

• Get the default link configuration gcc uses when calling the linker.

  I am using the CodeSorcery arm-eabi-gcc tool chain and I have a problem using ld separate from gcc I can compile my simple program and link it, if I let gcc call the ld. This works not problem g++ test.cpp; # Works This does not work because of missing symbols g++ -c test.cpp ld -o test crti.o crtbegin.o test.o crtend.o crtn.o -lgcc -lc -lstdc++; # Fails Notice I am adding the gcc libraries to the ld command What am I missing? Also if there is a better way to make configuring ld to using the default gcc linking? Thanks

• SSH issue when do the Git clone

  Hi i have my own ubuntu linux box .... in that i have /home/username/.ssh/id_rsa.pub .. i copied the public key and paste the key into Git Hub. when i try to clone the git repository it says the following error warning: Authentication failed. Disconnected; no more authentication methods available (No further authentication methods available.). I have no idea what is wrong with that.... i have putty tool which connect my server with doing authenetication. becuase i copied my public key to my server known host folder. Can any one please help on this .... its heart breaking here.......

• AcceptSecurityContext (Kerberos) returns SEC_E_LOGON_DENIED

  Hi, I am trying to write a simple application that performs Kerberos authentication (no mutual authentication for now). The operating system is Windows server 2003, standard edition. I have setup Active directory and created an SPN using setspn tool. AcquireCredentialsHandle returns SEC_E_OK both on client and on server. InitializeSecurityContext on client side returns SEC_E_OK. AcceptSecurityContext on server side returns SEC_E_LOGON_DENIED. I am sure there's nothing wrong in my code since the same behaviour I see when using the sample application from the following MSDN article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dvdarchive/bb985043.aspx So I guess there is something wrong in my setup. But I can't find out what. Maybe I have missed something in SPN setup? Any help is appreciated. Regards, David.

There seems to be several ways to write a post. General article: I like this tool. This is how I do it. Specific technical issue: Programming solutions. I do get some traffic, but they don't leave any comments. Should I use HN and Reddit. What are some of the other places I can promote my blog? How to respond to negative comments (trolls)? • Android : How to Remove all capital letters from image filenames before importing into Eclipse

  As you know, you can't have capital letters in your image filenames that you use in your Android project (Ressource/Drawables folder). I've got hundreds of small images (GOOG.GIF as an exemple) that I need to import into my project (I usually do a simple drag and drop from a desktop folder into Eclipse). So here's the question : How do I quickly change all the filenames (replace all capital letters to lower case) before importing into my project ? So, GOOG.GIF becomes goog.gif AAPL.GIF becomes aapl.gif etc. Any quick command line solution or another tool to do just that ? Thanks.

• Is it possible to generate plain-old XML using Haml?

  I've been working on a piece of software where I need to generate a custom XML file to send back to a client application. The current solutions on Ruby/Rails world for generating XML files are slow, at best. Using builder or event Nokogiri, while have a nice syntax and are maintainable solutions, they consume too much time and processing. I definetly could go to ERB, which provides a good speed at the expense of building the whole XML by hand. HAML is a great tool, have a nice and straight-forward syntax and is fairly fast. But I'm struggling to build pure XML files using it. Which makes me wonder, is it possible at all? Does any one have some pointers to some code or docs showing how to do this, build a full, valid XML from HAML?

• Record demo and save as AVI for upload to YouTube?

  Hello I need to record the demo of a program in Windows, and save this into an AVI file so that I can upload it to YouTube. I tried Wink for this, but unless I overlooked it, it saves files as Flash (FLV), which YouTube refused. Is there an open-source alternative? I don't need something hardcore, just a tool that will let me save a demo, and insert a couple of slides where the demo stops to let the user read stuff and click on a button to resume watching. • Technique to limit number of instances of our application under Terminal Server

  I'm looking for simple ways to monitor and limit the number of instances of our application under Terminal Server (2003 and 2008). The purpose of this restriction is to make sure we don't overload our servers. This is an internal administrative requirement - I am not looking for a licensing solution. The application in question is written in Python 2.6 (32-bit) but I'm happy to receive development tool agnostic answers. • Network Services disabled (not starting) on Windows XP

  I am currently running Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my system. But today, when I failed to connect to the internet, via a LAN cable, I realized that almost all of the vital network services had stopped functioning. Any attempts to start it through services.msc gives me the following message: Could not start the DNS Client Service on Local Computer Error 1068: The dependency service group failed to start All my software or services that are related to networking have stopped functioning, for example, Windows Firewall is turned off permanently, so is my Avast Anti-Virus' service of Real Time Shields and Web Shield. When I insert the LAN wire into my laptop, it registers itself, but this is what I get when I do a ping localhost C:>ping localhost Unable to contact IP driver, error code 2 Moveover, with ipconfig I get this : Windows IP Configuration An internal error occurred: The request is not supported. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help. Additional Information: Unable to query host name On some further poking around, I saw that none of the "NETWORK SERVICE" process in task manager, except svchost.exe were running. Also, when I first opened the task manager, I saw some 20 processes running with username column empty for most of them. With some search in Google, I found out that these services were important, DHCP DNS Net logon Network connection Network location Awareness TCP/IP Net BIOS Helper none of them, except Network Connections are working, they do not start. The event viewer of my system shows a bunch of 7000 and 7001 event errors. I have tried re installing the network driver, booting in safe mode with networking and tried to enable those services mentioned above. I had disabled System Restore some time back, so I have no restore points for my system. I tried a lot of things from Google searches but none of them worked. Also, with such a long list of issue, I am a little confused as to what should I search on the internet. :( One more thing I would like to mention, previous morning, my anti-virus Avast detected a RootKit buried deep in my system folders. It was removed, but maybe this was a problem caused by the root kit. I did run a boot-time scan but no viruses were found. Please please please advice. Is formatting and re-installation of Windows my only option?

  phpQuery is a really nice tool which has helped me tremendously in the past parse well-formed XHTML and XML documents, but I have recently run into a problem trying to select elements that have colons in their tagname, such as the following: <isc:thumb><![CDATA[http://example.com/foo_thumb.jpg]]></isc:thumb> I've tried to use the pq() function to select all of these elements: foreach ( pq("isc:thumb") as $thumbnail ) { print pq( $thumbnail )->text(); } Unfortunately this is doing nothing. If I try another element, like a tagname of id, the results pop up as expected.

  I want to hide the tool I used to create an .exe file. I am not doing anything illegal, I just want to protect my intellectual property from being copied.
