I was thinking of using regular expressions, but I am not too great in writing them, and was wondering if someone could help me out.   • Is the Java classpath final after JVM startup?

    Hi, I have read a lot about the Java class loading process lately. Often I came across texts that claimed that it is not possible to add classes to the classpath during runtime and load them without class loader hackery (URLClassLoaders etc.) As far as I know classes are loaded dynamically. That means their bytecode representation is only loaded and transformed to a java.lang.Class object when needed. So shouldn't it be possible to add a JAR or *.class file to the classpath after the JVM started and load those classes, provided they haven't been loaded yet? (To be clear: In this case the classpath is simple folder on the filesystem. "Adding a JAR or *.class file" simply means dropping them in this folder.) And if not, does that mean that the classpath is searched on JVM startup and all fully qualified names of the found classes are cached in an internal "list"? It would be nice of you if you could point me to some sources in your answers. Preferably the offical SUN documentation: Sun JVM Spec. I have read the spec but could not find anything about the classpath and if it's finalized on JVM startup. P.s. This is a theoretical question. I just want to know if it is possible. There is nothing practical I want to achieve. There is just my thirst for knowledge :)

  • Which design pattern is most appropriate?

    Hello, I want to create a class that can use one of four algorithms (and the algorithm to use is only known at run-time). I was thinking that the Strategy design pattern sounds appropriate, but my problem is that each algorithm requires slightly different parameters. Would it be a bad design to use strategy, but pass in the relevant parameters into the constructor?.   • With NHibernate, how can I add a child object when updating a parent object?

    I have a simple Parent/Child relationship between a Person object and an Address object. The Person object exists in the DB. After doing a Get on the Person, I add a new Address object to the Address sub-object list of the parent, and do some other updates to the Person object. Finally, I do an Update on the Person object. With a SQL trace window, I can see the update to the Person object to the Person table and the Insert of the Address record to the Address table. The issue is that, after the update is performed, the AddressId (primary key on the Address object) is still set to 0, which is what it defaults to when you first initialize the Address object. I have verified that when I do an Add, this value is set correctly. Is this a known issue when trying to add sub-objects as part of an NHibernate UPDATE?   • No improvement in speed when using Ehcache with Hibernate

    I'm getting no improvement in speed when using Ehcache with Hibernate Here are the results I get when i run the test below. The test is reading 80 Stop objects and then the same 80 Stop objects again using the cache. On the second read it is hitting the cache, but there is no improvement in speed. Any idea's on what I'm doing wrong?   • sql statement "into outfile" not working with jdbc

    I am attempting to add an "export to CSV" feature to a webapp that displays data from a MySQL database. I have a written a "queryExecuter" class to execute queries from my servlet. I have used this to successfully execute insert queries so I know the connection works etc however queries with the "into outfile" statement are simply not executing. Therefore, I used forward declaration in Character.h by adding: class BattleRecord; The problem is sovled. But then, the GUI.h needs BattleRecord.h again for reporting the battle, so I have to include BattleRecord.h into the GUI.h. I also have to include the Character.h in order to pass into the ViewStat function. I got error and stuck with this up to this piont.

I feel like I've done it right, I know that the button doesn't do anything as of now, but I just want to make the whole thing work and expand the code thereafter.   • Location of Embedly (JQuery-Preview) Results

    Embedly/Jquery-Preview has been fantastic. However, I'm trying to change the location of the preview result, and having trouble. Right now, the result appears right below the input field...but I'd rather have it in a separate part of the page. Is there a way to do this? I've tried changing the location of the selector and loading divs, but that hasn't helped. It seems to ignore those divs and put it right below the submit button. How can I hide the label without making it private or creating an editor template? I'm working in some HTML docs that have single quotes around all attribute values through the docs, like this: <div class='classone classtwo'> I'd love to be able to do a find-and-replace in each doc and replace with double quotes, like this: <div class="classone classtwo"> Many elements in the document will have multiple attributes: <div class='classone classtwo' data-scripts='lazyload'> And some will have the correct double quotes: <div class='classone classtwo' data-scripts="lazyload"> What's the best way to replace all single quotes wrapping values with double?

    I'm trying to use gorm find method on my domain class, inside of an Spock Integration Spec. My code: class myDomainClassSpec extends IntegrationSpec{ ... def 'my test'() { when: ... then: MyDomainClass.find { id == 1 } } ... } This fails, throwing: groovy.lang.MissingPropertyException: No such property: id for class: grails.gorm.DetachedCriteria If instead I code: MyDomainClass.findAll().find { id == 1 } it works. Any ideas??

  • Problems finding classes in namespace and testing extend expected parent

    So I am in the process of building a site in ASP.Net MVC, and in the process I am adding certain things to my Site.Master I want to make sure that all of my model classes extend a certain base class that contains all of the pieces the Site.Master needs to be operable. I want to test to make sure this assumption isn't broken (I believe this will save me time when I forget about it and can't figure out why a new combination isn't working.) I wrote a test that I thought would help with this, but I am running into two problems. First it isn't finding the one example model class I have so far in the LINQ call all of a sudden, I am admittedly still a bit new to LINQ. Second, I had it finding the class earlier, but I couldn't get it to verify that the class inherits from the base class. Here is the example test.   • Is there a pattern that allows a constructor to be called only from a specific factory and from nowh

    We have a class, say LegacyUserSettingsService. LegacyUserSettingsService implements an interface, IUserSettingsService. You can get an instance of the IUserSettingsService by calling our ApplicationServicesFactory. The factory uses Spring.NET to construct the concrete LegacyUserSettingsService. The trouble is that new developers sometimes do their own thing and construct new instances of the LegacyUserSettingsService directly (instead of going via the factory). Is there a way to protect the constructor of the concrete class so it can only be called from the factory? A well-known pattern perhaps? Note that the concrete class resides in a different assembly (separate from the Factory's assembly, so the internal keyword is not a solution). The factory assembly references the other assembly that contains the concrete class. Any ideas?

I expected the variable I set in the subclass (prior to calling the superclass constructor) to remain. Is there a way to assign class variables in subclass constructors which are not over-written by the superclass construtor? Or should I pass them up as constructor variables?
