• CodeMirror Dynamic Syntax Validation

  Been trying to decide between using CodeMirror or Ace editor. I've been leaning towards CodeMirror, however there's one feature of Ace that I really like and that is how it does syntax validation. So as I'm typing there can appear a warning or error icon in the left gutter area beside the line number, and when I hover over it it gives me a little description. Is there any way to get this functionality in CodeMirror? Specifically, I'm using the css mode for CodeMirror. It'd also be nice to be able to add in my own custom validation. Thanks.

I'm developing a website and for the first time i found problems using cufon... if you think u know about cofon check this.. http://universite.jvsoftware.com If you open with firefox and IE, you will notice in the navigation bar, when you over the titles will appear a border (actually is an image) but if you open it with chrome or safari, that image doesnt appear.... the cufon script is easy to find in the source code, also the css. • Why is this consider bad practice? or is it? (ASP.Net)

  Would this code be considered bad practice: <div id="sidebar"> <% =DisplayMeetings(12) %> </div> This is a snippet of code from the default.aspx of a small web app I have worked on. It works perfectly well, runs very fast, but as always, I am aware of the fact that just because it works, doesn't mean it is OK. Basically, the DisplayMeetings subroutine outputs a bunch of formatted HTML (an unordered list actually), with no formatting, just the requisite html, and then my CSS performs all the necessary formatting. The data for generating the list comes from an SQL server database (the parameter controls how many rows to return) and I am using stored procedures and datareader for fast access. This keeps my front-end extraordinary simple and clean, imho, and lets me do all the work in VB or C# in a separate module. I could of course use a databound repeater (and probably 6 or more other methods) of accomplishing the same thing, but are they any better? Other than loosing the design-time features of VS2010?

  I have a div that is holding a google chart: <div id="chart_div" style="width: 600px; height: 300px;"></div> It has one CSS property: display: none. On the click of a button, I would like to have the chart be displayed using jQuery hide() and show(). It's working, however, the chart's dimensions are set to something different than I have specified and refuse to change to what I have specified. Here is my jquery code: $(document).ready(function(){ var chart = $('#chart_div'); $('#submit').click(function(){ chart.show('slow'); }); }); Let me know if theres any more code you would like to see. By the way, the chart div is not being contained in anything else so that isn't the problem.

  I have a flex4 applciation (mx+spark). When I use: FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.styleManager.loadStyleDeclarations(skinName, true); This works fine: new style is applied. The trouble is when I apply a new style, it mixes both: this happens because I need to Unload style first. I try to unload it with: FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.styleManager.unloadStyleDeclarations("style/normal.swf",false); And I always got an error: ReferenceError: Error #1069: La property 0 cannot be found on Number and there is no default value. at normal/unloadOverrides()[null/normal-generated.as:721] at normal/unload()[null/normal-generated.as:676] Any idea on how to load/unload swf css in Flex4?

  I have a table (3x3) that counts "< /form" as space in IE. The code for 1 td looks like: <style type="text/css"> table { border-width: 0px; border-collapse: collapse; padding: 0px; } td, th { padding: 0px; } </style> <table><tr><td><form name="form" action="index.php" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="from" value="a" /><input type="image" src="pic1.gif" alt="1" name="submit" value="submit" /></form></td> There is no spaces anywhere outside the tags. Inside the td, there is a form, with a hidden field and a picture. Firefox shows only the picture, but IE has spaces between the rows. I did a little debugging, and found it was from the /form. Does anyone know a fix to this?

  I'm using PHP to scrape a website and collect some data. It's all done without using regex. I'm using php's explode() method to find particular HTML tags instead. It is possible that if the structure of the website changes (CSS, HTML), then wrong data may be collected by the scraper. So the question is - how do I know if the HTML structure has changed? How to identify this before storing any data to my database to avoid wrong data being stored.

  It's common to want browsers to cache resources - JavaScript, CSS, images, etc. until there is a new version available, and then ensure that the browser fetches and caches the new version instead. One solution is to embed a version number in the resource's filename, but will placing the resources to be managed in this way in a directory with a revision number in it do the same thing? Is the whole URL to the file used as a key in the browser's cache, or is it just the filename itself and some meta-data? If my code changes from fetching '/r20/example.js' to '/r21/example.js', can I be sure that revision 20 of example.js was cached, but now revision 21 has been fetched instead and it is now cached?

• Drupal and Back-End Complexity

  Currently I am working on a school website, and we are still in the decision-making process of choosing a framework (we know that we're not using Joomla! or hand-coding). Drupal came up as a viable choice, and currently, that is my best bet for the site. However, I have an issue with CMS's in general. I would like to develop a quite complicated and specifically custom-suited back-end application for teachers to interact with individual students, including the design of shared/custom calendars, announcement privileges, etc. I currently have a bit of expertise with HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, and I could wrap my head around some JavaScript and AJAX stuff if need-be. However, would such a complicated application work with Drupal (in that I could create it to specifically suite my purposes)?

• If you had to work with horrible HTML, what would you do?

  I was looking over some of my friend's HTML and CSS, and I was speechless (in a bad way). If I had to work with that, such as putting AJAX into it, then it would have been a lot of work. I would have to rebuild a lot of the HTML aspects, otherwise it wouldn't work well with the AJAX. What would you do in a situation like so? Would you just edit at the minimum? Would you do a overhaul and redo the whole HTML aspect? Would you go back to the client and ask for more money because it was a lot more work than expected? I'm interested in strategies and approaches and how it's done out in the field.

• sIFR works, except for one word in my navigation bar

  Hi there, My website uses sIFR and it all seems to work great, except for one word in my navigation bar. The navigation links all work, but the word "Zoeken" (= Search) in front of the search form doesn't get changed to the desired font type. I have checked the header.php of my site, as well as the CSS, but any of the changes that I made, don't seem to work. Could anyone help me out? I want the user to be able to hover over this div but when the user hovers out of the div (mouseout i think its called) I want it to hide. Imagine a dropdown menu in css, the user hovers over the link and the sub nav is shown, when the user hovers out or away from the link and sub nav the sub nav dissapears.   Hello there, jQuery has the .ready() function, but I am unsure whether this is what I need: I set a default background image in CSS (imange 1 out of 4), once document is loaded (images and all, not only DOM); I want to start preloading background image 2 out of 4. Once that is loaded, I want to fade image 1 into image 2. Then I want to preload the next image (3 out of 4), once that is loaded, I want to fade from background image 2 into image 3, and finally preload image 4. Once image 4 is loaded, i would like to fade image 3 into image 4. After that, I want to cycle between the images with a set time interval. What strategy would I use to solve this? .load() function? • How to use jquery .animate() to mock 'text-align:right'

  I am building a very simple jquery menu. On hover, I have a menu on the right easing to the left margin of my menu container. This is easy, as the text is left aligned within said container. However, I also have a menu on the left, and because the links (left justified) are of differing length, the best I can do is adjust the padding to ease the text a uniform amount between links. Therefor, long link text goes to the right edge of the container, buy short text only makes it about half way. In reading about this, I have learned that you can not modify the text align property as it is non numeric. Is there any other way to do this? I of course tried to go with: $('#selector').css('text-align':'right') but that made the text jump to the right instead of ease. Is there any way to ensure all links ease to the rightmost margin of the container?

On this website, I want the user to input in multiple text fields (sort of like they take a quiz) and then the program will make a text file based on the user input which the user can download. I want it to work backwards, too, so that the text file is the input. What do I need to learn to make a website to do this? Will javascript do the trick? I'm a beginning to intermediate programmer, mainly with java and I've learned some C# recently. I thought I could learn ASP.Net for this, but it turns out my hosting doesn't support it.

• Why does Microsoft's IE even exists?

  For real what is the point? Why can't it display pages properly like Chrome, safari or Firefox? If you want to make a web application (modern 2.0 site) that supports IE you will end up almost doubling your coding time as IE has its own interpretation of things. PLUS they just keep on changing how it renders pages from version to version (5,6,7,8) unbelievable.   Using jQuery and the Cycle plugin. Runs flawless in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and the latest version of Opera. Won't run in older versions of Opera, and of course, IE.
