    The Amazon AWS newsletter for May 2010 had a great link in it to this article by encoding.com on how you can use they service to encode your video for multi-format, multi-bandwidth streaming to many devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Flash with H264.   This looks like it doesn’t actually take advantage of CloudFront streaming, but merely splits your encoded files into the available chunks and includes all of the M3U8 files that point to the different bitrates and such.   This looks like a pretty sweet service in general, especially since they seem to have an API as well, so that may be very useful to those of you out there looking to host video. more later – joel

• Streaming in justin.tv using Ubuntu 11.10

  I used to streaming videos in justin.tv..using Windows 7 and I had no problems. But a month ago, I installed Ubuntu 11.10 (32 bits) in my notebook and now I can't streaming videos. The problem is that when I click on the button "Go Live!", it´s supposed that the screen where I have to clic on "Allow" it should appear, but it doesn't. The web only displays the message: "You can't start until you click allow below.", but the "allow button" doesn't appear, instead of that I only see a black screen. I guessed that it was a problem with the Adobe Flash Player, but I have the lastest version for Linux installed and I have no problems with Youtube. Also, my webcam works without problem in others Ubuntu's applications. I hope you can help me. • Event system architecture for networking when performance is concerned

  How should I design a system for an action game (think in Golden Axe) where events can happen remotely? I'm using TCP for this because the client is in flash. There's so many options, I can make a binary protocol (I don't like this idea, I found it to be too hard to mantain) but I was also thinking that passing jsons through clients and server can be slow (Is that a exaggerated concern?). What about the internal architecture for the server? And for the client? I'm really lost, If it's a question that is too big, please indicate me some material so I can formulate a better question next time.

  When I try to save something or rename a file/folder it say this error " Read-only file system" or run something as root in the terminal it say this error sudo: unable to open /var/lib/sudo/"My User Name"/0: Read-only file system W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock E: Unable to write to /var/cache/apt/ E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. When I make a Folder the error dialog in the details with Nautilus is this: Error creating directory: Read-only file system I would show you I picture of it but it isn't even letting my save onto my flash drive.   I am currently running Ubuntu as a guest vm on a Win 7 host via VirtualBox, but I would like to have a portable version of Ubuntu when I am not using my laptop. I am unsure as to the difference between the following: 1)LiveCD with persistence; 2)LiveCD without persistence; 3)LiveUSB with persistence; 4)LiveUSB without persistence; 5)Full-install. I have a USB flash drive (32GB), and I also have empty DVDs lying around. I know that persistence means that data can be saved, but I am unsure as to which option to choose. What is the difference between a LiveUSB and a full-install on a USB thumbdrive and why would I want to pick one over the other? Thanks for any help.

• How can I embed an existing podcast into my website?

  I manage a podcast and a website, currently they are separate but I would like to have a way to embed the podcast into the website, I still want to create/update the podcast separate from the website I just want visitors to be able to listen to the podcast on the website without having to open iTunes while still having the ability to choose what episode to play. The best solution I have found is: http://tools.wizzard.tv/ but I do not like it that much. Currently I have to log on and click refresh for it to recognize new episodes. I want to be able to update the podcast, and just like how iTunes will be updated I want the page on the website to be updated as well. The 'podcast' page will most likely not be like a blog but have a Flash or Java script application that will pull the info from the podcast.xml file to show the episodes.

• HTML Javascript Hidden Object or Photo Hunt Game

  Is anyone aware of any example photo hunt/hidden object games either in HTML and Javascript or flash if necessary? I am having trouble finding one, I may be using the wrong words to search. Photo hunt being like the wheres wally/waldo books where you look for wally in a complex image until you find him. So if it were played on screen you would press the location of wally and it would either be correct or wrong, possibly timed. I am hoping to find one where you can just load in your own photos and specify some co-ordinates that match where the hidden object is. A spot the difference example may be useful as a starting point but I haven't found an example of either that is web based yet.

• Can Ubuntu create a semi-transparent subtitle player for accessibility?

  I've asked this in Reddit.com/r/Ubuntu in here. I've tried to get the Subtitle Player linked here to work and it have failed on Wine. So I'm curious if Ubuntu community would be willing to try and build a simple transparent subtitle player for better accessibility on Flash Player, Netflix, or even in movie theaters? Currently, I'm watching movies/videos with an Android Tablet that runs on a blank black video for 3 hours with a subtitle overlay on it so I can enjoy movie and so forth, but it requires a bit of effort and it definitely isn't for everyone. (People will have to look at the subtitle playing tablet and the movie back and forth at 60 degrees angle, while a transparent subtitle player would reduce it to 5 degrees angle to watch the movie.)
