  I am working on some movement AI where there are no obstacles and movement is restricted to the XY plane. I am calculating 2 vectors: v - the direction of ship 1 w - the vector pointing from the position of ship 1 to ship 2 I am then calculating the angle between these two vectors using the standard formula: arccos( v . w / ( |v| |w| ) ) The problem I'm having is the nature of arccos only returning values between 0 and 180. This makes it impossible to determine whether I should turn left or right to face the other ship. Is there a better way to do this?

  On my site, say example.com, if I try to access test.example.com, Firefox automatically adds www. to test.example.com, making it www.test.example.com, which causes an error. However, if I visit a site like my.ebay.com, no www. is added so no error occurs. What's going on?   So, this is the first time I actually separated a single program into a header and two .cpp files . But I think I am getting an linkage error . Heres how the directory looks . In functions.cpp I have all my functions , in the coordin.h file I have the function prototypes and structures and Constants . Everything is ok no typo nothing I have checked everything . But I am getting an undefined reference to function error. I have included the coordin.h file too . Do you think the functions.cpp file needs to go somewhere else I mean is the compiler not looking inside that file ? Thanks !

• Deleted Myself from Admin Group - Now Getting Error usermod: cannot lock /etc/passwd; try again later

  I have a laptop with Ubuntu 11.10 that is shared between myself and two other family members. My user id was setup as the only "Administrator" on the laptop. The other users were setup as "Standard" users. In my attempt to try to add myself to the user groups for the other users, I somehow deleted myself from the admin groups. I used the "usermod" command from the terminal. I must have neglected to include the proper switches or syntax for the update. It looks like I successfully added my userid to the group associated with my wife's account. When I use the "groups" command, I can see only my id and my wife's id in the list. I no longer see the "admin" or "adm" groups, and others that used to be listed. When I go into System Settings User Accounts it looks like my ID is now listed as a "Standard" user. I would like to change my account back to "Administrator", but now I can't. I did some searches for solutions and found that I would need to boot into Recovery Mode and execute the usermod command from the root session. I was able to successfully boot into Recovery Mode and get to the root session. I was trying to execute the command "usermod -a -G admin user1" to add my id (user1) back to the admin group. When I execute the command from the root session, I get the error message "usermod: cannot lock /etc/passwd; try again later". I tried preceding the usermod command with "sudo", but it didn't make a difference, same error. I then tried adding a new user using adduser, thinking I would try to create a new userid and make the new userid part of the admin group. I get the same error using the adduser command. I saw some posts that recommend looking for and deleting files that end in ".lock" in the etc directory. The only file I found was .pwd.lock which I haven't touched. I am at a loss as to what to try next. I am relatively inexperienced with Ubuntu and Linux, so alot of this is new to me. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

• Trying to diagnose network problem: ping 127.0.0.1 (or any address) results in error code 1

  NIC seems to be working, as windows detects the hardware and has a driver and reports success. DHCP seems to have gotten an ip address, 192.168.1.101. I released and renewed it and it seemed to work normally. I tried ping 127.0.0.1 as first step of testing network configuration. Pinging 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data: PING: transmit failed, error code 1. I read somewhere that net helpmsg [error code] would give a human readable name for the error code. net helpmsg 1 says "Incorrect function" I've tried disabling the firewall and antivirus in McAfee SecurityCenter and I still get the same error. Could the firewall/antivirus be breaking it even if disabled? Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 2 is installed, and its network test passes all tests, including ping 192.168.1.1 which is the default gateway. If I try ping 192.168.1.1 from the command prompt I get the error code 1 again. So does anyone have any theories that would explain this problem? Other tests I should try? Thanks!

Upon trying both, the error message returns and I must cntrl-alt-delete to end the process. I have checked all permissions associated with local account, network domain account and ran installation as administrator. I have searched on the web and other people are having this problem too but I cant find a solution. so I turn to the experts, anyone encounter this error??

  I have a 64 bit- 20 GB Ubuntu partition which has very less usable space. So I have put Eclipse in my Ubuntu and downloaded sdks to a folder in my another partition. So when I try to start sdk manager, I am getting the following error in my console: Unexpected exception 'Cannot run program "/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb": error=13, Permission denied' while attempting to get adb version from '/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb' I have run chmod recursively on android-sdks directory. If I change the address for sdks to Ubuntu partition, sdk manager starts successfully. Is there anything I can do other than increasing the partition size? Thanks

I don't really feel like turning -pedantic off, and neither do I want to edit the header. Is there any way to suppress this exact error? This seems counter intuitive to me as I think the error handler should only fire when an error occurs as a result of making the Ajax call or via a server-side error. • Android -- Can't play any videos (mp4/mov/3gp/etc.)?

  Hello all, I'm having great difficulty getting my Android application to play videos from the SD card. It doesn't matter what size, bitrate, video format, or any other setting I can think of, neither the emulator nor my G1 will play anything I try to encode. I've also tried a number of videos from the web (various video formats, bitrates, with and without audio tracks, etc.), and none of those work either. All I keep getting is a dialog box that says: "Cannot play video" "Sorry, this video cannot be played." There are errors reported in LogCat, but I don't understand them and I've tried searching the Internet for further explanations without any luck.   I'm trying to animate a background image to move down a set amount of pixels but remain in the center of the page. Upon another click of an element I need it to move back to the top, but still remain in the center. My goal is to calulate the center of the page in pixels (width = (width / 2) - 700;), and then animate to this rough position (it's normally out by a few pixels due to scrollbars, and then force to the center using a .css() call. The problem is that IE does not want to play ball. IE will not animate at all. Firefox/Safari/Chrome all work as expected.
