• When should a uniform be used in shader programming?

  In a vertex shader, I calculate a vector using only uniforms. Therefore, the outcome of this calculation is the same for all instantiations of the vertex shader. Should I just do this calculation on the CPU and upload it as a uniform? What if I have ten such calculations? If I upload a lot of uniforms in this way, does CPU-GPU communication ever get so slow that recomputing such values in the vertex shader is actually faster?

• Using Hadoop, are my reducers guaranteed to get all the records with the same key?

  I'm running a hadoop job (using hive actually) which is supposed to uniq lines in a lot of text file. More specifically it chooses the most recently timestamped record for each key in the reduce step. Does hadoop guarantee that every record with the same key, output by the map step, will go to a single reducer, even if there are many reducers running across a cluster? I'm worried that the mapper output might be split after the shuffle happens, in the middle of a set of records with the same key.

• What type of lambda calculus would Lisp loosely be an example of?

The documentation is pretty sparse when it comes to iPhone integration, but the calls to get users information looks a lot more light weight than the previous method of using FBConnect. So i would like to use it. I have seen a few posts about but none explain you you would implement the login button as we did previously with FBConnect?   Hi all, for a project we will be doing webbased certificate enrollment, in Vista / Win7 combination with IE this gives some problems if the user does not import the root certificate first and then changes a lot of default IE settings (Enable ActiveX not marked safe for scripting etc....). I was wondering if any of you ever created a test VB or Javascript to test that all the settings are OK. So it can be used by the user before he starts the enrollment process.... greetings, Tim

  Hello, Is it possible to start the application on the Android phone (starting with Froyo), when there is an incoming voice call? In other words, the incoming voice call should trigger the application startup. In such a case the application should not be full-screen, but should cover only part of the screen to not hide the native controls for accepting or rejecting the call.
