• Page_PreRender fires twice on first load in session

  I have an issue when I access the application, I notice that Page_PreRender is fired twice. This only happens the first time in a new session. It does not happen if I refresh the page, or on postbacks. I use .NET framework 3.5 and the built in ajax functionality. I think the problem is not related to img tag with empty src attribute as I have seen other posts has mentioned, because I see this in both FireFox and IE. The posts I saw about this stated that this was not a problem in IE. I have also searched and found no img tags with empty src in the generated page source, so it should not be this. I have also made a simple test page where I have included some of the functionality, and this does not happen. Here I have also tried to reproduce the empty src bug by including <img src="" /> on the page, but this does not trigger this problem. Have anyone any suggestions on what happens? Note: It is the entire page cycle that is firing twice, not just render.

• Using Build Manager Class to Load ASPX Files and Populate its Controls

  I am using BuildManager Class to Load a dynamically generated ASPX File, please note that it does not have a corresponding .cs file. Using Following code I am able to load the aspx file, I am even able to loop through the control collection of the dynamically created aspx file, but when I am assigning values to controls they are not showing it up. for example if I am binding the value "Dummy" to TextBox control of the aspx page, the textbox remains empty. • How does the overall view hierarchy change when using UIKit view manipulations?

  I've been trying to figure out what happens in the view hierarchy when methods like pushViewController:animated, presentModalViewController:animated, and tab switches in UITabBarViewController are used, as well as UIAlertView and UIActionSheet. (Side note: I'm doing this because I need to know whether a specific UIView of my creation is visible on screen when I do not know anything about how it or its superview may have been added to the view hierarchy. If someone knows a good way to determine this, I'd welcome the knowledge.) To figure it out, I've been logging out the hierarchy of [[UIApplication sharedApplication] keyWindow] subviews in different circumstances. Is the following correct: When a new viewController is pushed onto the stack of a UINavigationController, the old viewController's view is no longer in the view hierarchy. That is, only the top view controller's view is a subview of UINavigationController's view (according to logs, it's actually several private classes such as UILayoutContainerView). Are the views of view controllers below the top controller of the stack actually removed from the window? A very similar thing happens when a new viewController is presented via presentModalViewController:animated. The new viewController's view is the only subview of the kew window. Is this correct? The easiest thing to understand: a UIAlertView creates its own window and makes it key. The strangest thing I encountered: a UIActionSheet is shown via showInView: method, the actionSheet isn't in the view hierarchy at all. It's not a subview of the view passed as an argument to showInView:, it isn't added as a subview of the key window, and it doesn't create its own window. How does it appear, then? I haven't tried this yet, so I'd like to know what happens in the keyWindow hierarchy when tabs in a UITabBarController are switched. Is the view of the selected UIViewController moved to the top, or does it work like with pushViewController:animated and presentModalViewController:animated, where only the displayed view is in the window hierarchy?

• Linking AS code to symbols defined in an external SWC?

  (apologies ahead of time, I only really know Flash; my Flex experience is basically nil. There may be a very standard and obvious workflow solution that Flex people know about) I have a number of UI elements that are graphically quite complex (they're not components, they're just Sprites). Since it takes a long time to compile them, I've been trying to move them into an external .swc. However, I want to associate some code with these classes, but I don't want to have to recompile the graphical assets every time I make a code change. At the moment I have it set up like this: UI elements are created in a separate FLA and exported to a SWC. In my primary FLA, I have actionscript classes that extend each of the graphical assets in the SWC. For example: external.swc: (some symbol defined in the Library and exported for actionscript in frame 1) class: com.foo.WidgetGraphic base: flash.display.Sprite main.fla: Widget.as: package com.foo { public class Widget extends WidgetGraphic { ... } } This works, but is time-consuming and prone to error. I'd rather be able to avoid having to inherit from each graphical asset, and just define them directly. Is there a better way to do what I'm trying to accomplish? Note: the main concern here is compile time. I don't have any movies or audio or fonts, just a lot of vector art assets that appear to be slowing down my compilation time significantly. When I'm debugging I'm only making code changes, and would rather not have to keep recompiling the art...

• .NET - A way to add my own clipboard format to existing formats

  I have a Excel addin that displays some structures on the worksheet. Users can copy the structures and paste them in another worksheet or another application which is handled by the Clipboard formats. When a user copies the structure, I convert the structure into a specific format and put it on the clipboard using the DataObject::SetData(). Please note that when a copy is initiated in Excel, it puts a number of formats on the clipboard (see image). The problem is that there is a third party application that depends on the data on the clipboard(Copy from Excel and paste into this 3rd party app) but the funny thing is that I am not sure which format it depends on. I need to preserve the existing formats that Excel has put up there and also add my own format to it. Currently when I use the Clipboard class in .NET (taking the DataObject and calling SetData inside it), all the other formats are replaced by new ones. I then tried to create a new DataObject, copy the existing format data to this data object and then set this data object in the Clipboard. • .NET: Problems creating email attachment from MemoryStream.

  Hi all I'm using the following method to create an attachment from a MemoryStream: public void AddAttachment(Stream stream, string filename, string mimeType) { byte[] buffer = ((MemoryStream) stream).GetBuffer(); Attachment attachment = new Attachment(stream, filename, mimeType); _mail.Attachments.Add(attachment); } Note that the first line is not necessary isn't necessary for the attachment functionality, it's just useful to have the byte[] handy during debugging so that I can see how big it is. (It generally has around 80,000 elements.) The code runs fine and the email is sent. When Outlook receives the email, in the Inbox it displays the attachment symbol, but when you go into the email the attachment isn't there. Unfortunately I don't have access to the mail server to find out more about the email, e.g. what the attachment looks like, its size etc. Can anyone suggest what properties of the MemoryStream argument might tell me if it is in some way invalid for attachment? Or think of anything else I might try? Thank you. David

  Hi, The Java documentation says: A class implements the Cloneable interface to indicate to the Object.clone() method that it is legal for that method to make a field-for-field copy of instances of that class. Invoking Object's clone method on an instance that does not implement the Cloneable interface results in the exception CloneNotSupportedException being thrown. By convention, classes that implement this interface should override Object.clone (which is protected) with a public method. See Object.clone() for details on overriding this method. Note that this interface does not contain the clone method. Therefore, it is not possible to clone an object merely by virtue of the fact that it implements this interface. Even if the clone method is invoked reflectively, there is no guarantee that it will succeed.   Are there any real-world prototype-based programming languages with a whole development cycle? "A whole development cycle" like Ruby and Python: web frameworks, scripting/interacting with the system, tools for debugging, profiling, etc. Thank you A brief note on PBPLs: (let's call these languages PBPL : prototype-based programming language) There are some PBPLs out there. Some are being widely used like JavaScript (which Node.js may bring it into the field - or may not!). One other language is ActionScript which is also a PBPL but tightly bound to Flash VM (is it correct to say so?). From less known ones I can speak of Lua which has a strong reputation in game development (mostly spread by WOW) but never took off as a full language. Lua has a table concept which can provide you some sort of prototype based programming facility. There is also JScript (Windows scripting tool) which is already pointless by the newcomer PowerShell (I have used JScript to manipulate IIS but I never understood what is JScript!). Others can be named like io (indeed very very neat, you will fall in love with it; absolutely impossible to use) and REBOL (What is this all about? A proprietary scripting tool? You must be kidding!) and newLISP (Which is actually a full language, but no one ever heard about it). For sure there are much more to list here but either I do not remember or I did not understood them as a real world thing, like Self).

  I'm trying to use jQuery to load the body of another HTML document, which contains our AdSense banner. It should display under each blog entry when in list view. I'm able to get it to load text, even images, but not the banner; the banner is a small script. Here is the website we are working with: http://neverknowtech.com/data/ (that's a test page, and the 'entry' displayed there contains the intended body content) As you can see here the body code does include an ad, and the word 'Ad'. The word 'Ad' is shown correctly below the post (as it is in list view) but the script for the Google Ad doesn't seem to make it. • Accessing an excel file throws OleDbException but keeps handle on file

  Really odd that I'd get an oledbexception but turns out that the file's handle is still with the original file. I've been searching through google and keep finding the same problem but no solutions. Connection String: "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" + "Data Source=" + filePath + ";" + "Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;"; Note that it works on every other file except a particular excel file. Exception: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: No error information available: E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF). And then I have exception handling like this: try { IEnumerable<string> worksheetNames = GetWorkbookWorksheetNames(connString); DataSet ds; foreach (string worksheetName in worksheetNames) { OleDbDataAdapter dataAdapter = new OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM [" + worksheetName + "]", connString); ds = new DataSet(); dataAdapter.Fill(ds, "ExcelInfo"); DataTable dt = ds.Tables["ExcelInfo"]; entityList.AddRange(GetDataFromDataTable(dt, worksheetName)); } } catch (OleDbException ex) { File.Move(filePath, filePath + ".invalidFormat.xls"); } Has anyone else encountered this behavior? There are several granaries over the distance connected with a directed weighted graph. The difference: people (here cars) are units that form traffic jams (here goes the graph weights). Note: in Ceasar game series, people harvested food and stockpiled it in several big granaries, whereas many markets (small shops) took food from the granaries and delivered it to the citizens. The task: tell each district where they should be getting their food from while taking least time and minimizing congestions on the city's roads. Map example Sample diagram Suppose that yellow districts need 7, 7 and 4 apples accordingly. Bluish granaries have 7 and 11 apples accordingly. Suppose edges weights to be proportional to their length. Then, the solution should be something like the gray numbers indicated on the edges. Eg, first district gets 4 apples from the 1st and 3 apples from the 2nd granary, while the last district gets 4 apples from only the 2nd granary. Here, vertical roads are first occupied to the max, and then the remaining workers are sent to the diagonal paths. Question What practical and very fast algorithm should I use? I was looking at some papers (Congestion Games: Optimization in Competition etc.) describing congestion games, but could not get the big picture. Any help is very appreciated! P. S. • Is there a library that can decompile a method into an Expression tree, with support for CLR 4.0?

  Previous questions have asked if it is possible to turn compiled delegates into expression trees, for example: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/767733/converting-a-net-funct-to-a-net-expressionfunct The sane answers at the time were: It's possible, but very hard and there's no standard library solution. Use Reflector! But fortunately there are some greatly-insane/insanely-great people out there who like reverse engineering things, and they make difficult things easy for the rest of us. Clearly it is possible to decompile IL to C#, as Reflector does it, and so you could in principle instead target CLR 4.0 expression trees with support for all statement types. This is interesting because it wouldn't matter if the compiler's built-in special support for Expression<> lambdas is never extended to support building statement expression trees in the compiler. A library solution could fill the gap. We would then have a high-level starting point for writing aspect-like manipulations of code without having to mess with raw IL. As noted in the answers to the above linked question, there are some promising signs but I haven't succeeded in finding if there's been much progress since by searching. So has anyone finished this job, or got very far with it? Note: CLR 4.0 is now released. Time for another look-see.

• MVC2 Client Validation isn't working when getting form from ajax call

  I'm trying to use MVC2 client-side validation in a partial view that is rendered via $.get. However, the client validation isn't working. I'm not quite sure what the deal is. • Escaping single quote in PHP when inserting into MySQL

  PLEASE NOTE: I am reposting as the original was not answered correctly... I AM LOOKING FOR THE WHY - NOT THE SOLUTION - I KNOW THE SOLUTION, WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS THE WHY! I have a perplexing issue that I can't seem to comprehend... I'm hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction... I have two SQL statements: - the first enters information from a form into the database. - the second takes data from the database entered above, sends an email and then logs the details of the transaction The problem is that it a appears that a single quote is triggering a MySQL error on the second entry only!!! The first instance works without issue but the second instance triggers the mysql_error(). Does the data from a form get handled differently from the data captured in a form? • Inserting null fields with dbi:Pg

  I have a Perl script inserting data into Postgres according to a pipe delimited text file. Sometimes, a field is null (as expected). However, Perl makes this field into an empty string and the Postgres insert statement fails. Here's a snippet of code: use DBI; #Connect to the database. $dbh=DBI-connect('dbi:Pg:dbname=mydb','mydb','mydb',{AutoCommit=1,RaiseError=1,PrintError=1}); #Prepare an insert. $sth=$dbh-prepare("INSERT INTO mytable (field0,field1) SELECT ?,?"); while (<){ #Remove the whitespace chomp; #Parse the fields. @field=split(/\|/,$_); print "$_\n"; #Do the insert. $sth-execute($field[0],$field[1]); } And if the input is: a|1 b| c|3 EDIT: Use this input instead. a|1|x b||x c|3|x It will fail at b|. DBD::Pg::st execute failed: ERROR: invalid input syntax for integer: "" I just want it to insert a null on field1 instead. Any ideas? EDIT: I simplified the input at the last minute. The old input actually made it work for some reason. So now I changed the input to something that will make the program fail. Also note that field1 is a nullable integer datatype.
