• Notifying when screen is off

  I'm trying to generate a notification which vibrates the phone and plays a sound when the screen is off (cpu turned off). According to the Log messages, the notification is being sent, but the phone doesn't vibrate or play the sound until I turn the screen on again. I tried holding a 2 second temporary wakelock (PowerManager.PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK), which I thought would be ample time for the notification to be played, but alas, it still doesn't. Any pointers to get the notification to run reliably? I'm testing this on an G1 running Android 1.6.   I need to convert string like this: $url = 'module/controller/action/param1/param1value/paramX/paramXvalue'; to url regarding current router (including translation and so on). Usually I generate the target urls using url view helper, but for this I need to specify all params, so I would need to manually explode the string. I tried to use request object, like this: $request = new Zend_Controller_Request_Http(); // some code here passing the $url Zend_Debug::dump($request->getControllerName()); // null instead of 'controllers' Zend_Debug::dump($request->getParams()); // null instead of array but this seems to be suspected. Do I need to dispatch this request? How to handle this case well?

• facebook php-sdk not logging out

  I'm having a hard time getting this to work. I use the following to generate the logout url: $logout = "https://www.facebook.com/logout.php?next=" . urlencode('http://' . $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] . $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']) . "&access_token=" . $facebook->getAccessToken(); Which generates the correct (worked with the last version) url: https://www.facebook.com/logout.php?next=http%3A%2F%2F...&access_token=AA....ZD However this does not actually log the user out. I tried using $facebook->getLogoutUrl(array('next' => 'myurl')) which generates pretty much the same url. This also did not work. I am lost as to why its not logging the user out. I actually tried manually putting the address into the address bar but it redirects me to the Facebook homepage.

• Django 404 pages not appearing?

  I want to add a 404 page on my Django site. I've created a template, 404.html, and saved it in the root of my /templates directory. I've also made sure that the from django.conf.urls.defaults import * line is included at the top of urls.py. I've set DEBUG to False. (I've been following these instructions.) However, if I try to go to a page that I know doesn't exist - whether a made-up URL or a view specifically designed to do get_object_or_404 - the 404 page doesn't appear: I just get Chrome's standard 'Oops! This link appears to be broken' page. Oddly, I also have a 500.html template in the same place and that is appearing just fine if I generate a 500 error. What might the problem be?

• MATLAB - Delete elements of binary files without loading entire file

  This may be a stupid question, but Google and MATLAB documentation have failed me. I have a rather large binary file (10 GB) that I need to open and delete the last forty million bytes or so. Is there a way to do this without reading the entire file to memory in chunks and printing it out to a new file? It took 6 hours to generate the file, so I'm cringing at the thought of re-reading the whole thing. EDIT: The file is 14,440,000,000 bytes in size. I need to chop it to 14,400,000,000.

  I'm trying to create a word ladder program in python. I'd like to generate words that are similar to a given word. In c++ or java, I would go through each valid index in the original string, and replace it with each letter in the english alphabet, and see if the result is a valid word. for example (pseudocode) for (int i = 0; i < word.length(); i++) { for (every character c in the alphabet) { change the letter of word at index i to be c. if the result is a valid word, store it in a list of similar words } } . However, this doesn't seem like a very "python" way of doing things. How would I approach this problem in python?

  So this is my first foray into threads and thus far it is driving me insane. My problem seems to be some kind of synchronization error that causes my consumer thread to hang. I've looked at other code and just about everything I could find and I can't find what my error is. There also seems to be a discrepancy between the code being executed in Eclipse and via javac in the command line. Intention - Using a bounded buffer (with 1000 slots) create and consume 1,000,000 doubles. Use only notify and wait. Problem - In Eclipse the consumer thread will occasionally hang around 940,000 iterations, but other times completes. In the command line the consumer thread always hangs. Output - Eclipse - Successful Producer has produced 100000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 100000 doubles. Producer has produced 200000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 200000 doubles. • Random number within a range based on a normal distribution

  I'm math challenged today :( I want to generate random numbers with a range (n to m, eg 100 to 150), but instead of purely random I want the results to be based on the normal distribution. By this I mean that in general I want the numbers "clustered" around 125. I've found this random number package that seems to have a lot of what I need: http://beta.codeproject.com/KB/recipes/Random.aspx It supports a variety of random generators (include mersiene twister) and can apply the generator to a distribution. But I'm confused... if I use a normal distribution generator the random numbers are from roughly -6 to +8 (apparently the true range is float.min to float.max). How do a scale that to my required range?

• My AES encryption/decryption functions don't work with random ivecs

  I was bored and wrote a wrapper around openSSL to do AES encryption with less work. If I do it like this: http://pastebin.com/V1eqz4jp (ivec = 0) Everything works fine, but the default ivec is all 0's, which has some security problems. Since I'm passing the data back as a string anyway, I figured, why not generate a random ivec and stick it to the front, the take it back off when I decrypt the string?   Hi everybody, I've a question for you. We have built a software that has a single database for each customer. These databases are managed by SQL Server 2008. Now the problem is that when we build our software we, sometimes, need to change something on the schema (like adding table, modifying existing ones etc) and migrate these updates on all the customers' databases. Now this task is accomplished by hand: we generate update scripts and then, using T-SQL, we update each database. This is ok for a small set of customer, but we are now becoming bigger and bigger and we really don't know how to face it. We found Wizardby and it seems interesting, but quite difficult for us to learn in this exact moment. Do you have any other trick? Thanks a lot, Marco

  Programming languages/environments aside, are there many developers who are using a framework in PHP, ORM and still abide by encapsulation for the DAL/BLL? I'm managing a team of a few developers and am finding that most of the frameworks require me to do daily code inspection because my developers are using the built in ORM. Right now, I've been using a tool to generate the classes and CRUD myself, with an area for them to write additional queries/functions. What's been happening though, is they are creating vulnerabilities by not doing proper checks on data permission, or allowing the key fields to be manipulated in the form. Any suggestions, other than get a new team and a new language (I've seen Python/Ruby frameworks have the same issues).

Please note that any tools that require editions of Visual Studio higher than Professional are not appropriate in this case. I am asking this question because I can't get NCover 1.5.8 to work with NUnit 2.5.5 on a .NET 4 C# app. I can run the unit tests, and I can generate a Coverage.Xml file, but it is empty - it contains no sequence points. After a lot of research, I have concluded that this is because NCover 1.5.8 simply doesn't work with .NET 4. However, if you know better, please feel free to answer this question from another user.

  I am trying to come up with the most efficient database as possible. My bus routes all have about 10 stops. The bus starts at number one until it reaches the 10th stop, then it comes back again. This cycle happens 3 times a day. I am really stuck as to how I can efficiently generate the times for the buses and where I should store the stops. If I put all the stops in one field and the times in another, the database won't be very dynamic. If I store all the stops one by one in a column and then the times in another column, there will be a lot of repeating happening further down as one stop has multiple times. Maybe I am missing something, I've only just started learning SQL and this is a task we have been set. Thanks in advance.

• Printings using CUPS, when can my app quit?

  I have an linux app that uses cups for printing, but I've noticed that if I print and then quit my app right away my printout never appears. So I assume that my app has to wait for it to actually come out of the printer before quitting, so does anyone know how to tell when it's finished printing?? I'm using libcups to print a postscript file that my app generates. So I use the command to print the file and it then returns back to my app. So my app thinks that the document is off to the printer queue when I guess it has not made it there yet. So rather than have all my users have to look on the screen for the printer icon in the system tray I would rather have a solution in code, so if they try and quit before it has really been sent off I can alert them to the fact. Also the file I generate is a temporary file so it would be nice to know when it is finished with so I can delete it.

• List replies in a winform

  In my C# app I get an xml from a server that contains some replies like in a forum thread (with elements like author, time, body, title, whatever). When I get this xml, I create a new form in which i want to display these replies, and a little text box with an "add reply" button. I'd also like some edit buttons on perhaps my own replies in the reply list displayed in the form. The simplest way that came to my mind to display the replies is to put a web browser control in the form, generate a full html page in a string from the xml, and throw it in that web browser control. And under it i can put the text box with the add reply button. Everything is ok, except that i have no idea of how i could implement the edit function on my own replies (i mean i could add a link in there... but link to what) I would like to know if there is a way to get that edit event from the web browser control (my guess is i can't) or another (maybe simple/easy) idea of displaying the replies in a winform using other controls

I can use one advertisement (adid) in multiple pages. But can't figure out the way to distinguish between from which pages clicks are coming. How can I use such parameters to generate statistics which tell me the page from which clicks are coming?

So far, I thought about introducing a key validation mechanism: periodically, the user needs to send me (web site query) a code based on which I generate a new code that app validates against.
