• PHP - can a method return a pointer?

  I have a method in a class trying to return a pointer: <?php public function prepare( $query ) { // bla bla bla return &$this->statement; } ?> But it produces the following error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '&' in /home/realst34/public_html/s98_fw/classes/sql.php on line 246 This code, however, works: <?php public function prepare( $query ) { // bla bla bla $statement = &$this->statement; return $statement; } ?> Is this just the nature of PHP or am I doing something wrong?

• Databind gridview with LINQ

  I have two database tables, one for Users of a web site, containing the fields "UserID", "Name" and the foreign key "PageID". And the other with the fields "PageID" (here the primary key), and "Url". I want to be able to show the data in a gridview with data from both tables, and I'd like to do it with databinding in the aspx page. I'm not sure how to do this, though, and I can't find any good examples of this particular situation. So how do I put some sort of "where" constraint on dropdown for each row to only show the pages for the user in that row? (Also, to be honest I'm not sure I'm getting the foreign key relationship right, because I'm not too used to working with relationships). EDIT: I think I have set up the relationship incorrectly. I keep getting the message that "Pages" doesn't exist as a property on the User object. And I guess it can't since the relationship right now is one way. So I tried to create a many-to-many relationship. Again, my database knowledge is a bit limited, but I added a so called "junction table" with the fields UserID and PageID, same as the other tables' primary keys. I wasn't able to make both of these primary keys in the junction table though (which it looked like some people had in examples I've seen...but since it wasn't possible I guessed they shouldn't be). Anyway, I created a relationship from each table and created new LINQ classes from that. But then what do I do? I set the junction table as the Linq data source, since I guessed I had to do this to access both tables, but that doesn't work. Then it complains there is no Name property on that object. So how do I access the related tables? • Problem with importing an mdf created with SQL Server Express 2008 into SQL Server 2005

  The question is probably extremely easy to resolve, but I need to resolve it because I need to carry on with my project. I am using SQL Server Express 2008 at home, and I've been working on an ASP.NET MVC app that stores my DB in an mdf file in the project's folder. The problem is that the SQL Server in the Uni labs is SQL Server 2005, and when I try to open the mdf file with the VS Server Explorer,It says that the version of the mdf file is more than the server can accept. The only option that comes to my mind is exporting the DB as an sql file, just like I've done it thousand times with phpmyadmin. the thing is that the SQL Management Studio Express is not the most usable tool in the world, and for some strange reason all the articles I could find in Google were irrelevant. Please, help.

Together with Local Storage you can also save data permanently "in" the page. My question is, would it then be possible to make a website that when visited and set as a web clip (bookmark on the home screen), could be accessed again, at any moment. Using HTML5, Javascript and css, you can make some very good apps and at the same time avoid the pricey developer fee, the harsh app approval and the single platform development platform? Or am I just dreaming?

• How to mask tilde (~) character in C# MVC routing table?

  I'm moving my home-baked web site to MVC and got the trouble with url routing. The site already serves several links that contain tilde (~) character in the path; something like http://.../~files/... http://.../~ws/... and I want each of them are handled by separate controller, like filesController, wsController, so my route table looks like routes.MapRoute( "files", "~files/{*prms}", new { controller = "files", action = "index", prms = "" } ); routes.MapRoute( "ws", "~ws/{*prms}", new { controller = "ws", action = "index", prms = "" } ); ... but when I try to get the result I got the error saying "The route URL cannot start with a '/' or '~' character and it cannot contain a '?' character." As I understand those characters have the special meaning in ASP.net but is it possible to mask them somehow, at least tilde? Should I parse and route requests like this myself? What the best practice to handle urls like this? Thanks!

• SSH Tunneling from Windows to Linux/Ubuntu

  My question is for my girlfriend basicly.... She works at a mall and doesn't do much so she likes to get on myspace and facebook as most girls do and yahoo to check her email. Well she uses her laptop to connect to a wireless network that doesn't allow it.... so I did some research and got putty and connected to my linux box I have here at home and it worked somewhat. My problem is it only views my webpages I have created here on this box it won't go outside of the linux host. I did it like this in putty... port is 1000 and hostname:80 is what I got outa my research then connected after seting up the tunnel bam worked for all webpages on my box but when she puts in www.myspace.com it redirects to my index.php in my var/www and won't travel outside that as I said.. Any help would be much obliged.

• OutOfMemoryException with Image.Clone - Only on Windows 2003

  So here's my issue. I have an image that I need to shrink. The original image is a grayscale PNG, which isn't a huge issues except that when I shrink it down, the thermal label printers pickup the artifacts and print them on the label. So, what I did was change the image to black & white (Format1bppIndexed) before resizing, like this: Dim bte() As Byte = System.Convert.FromBase64String(imgStr) Dim ms As New IO.MemoryStream(bte) Dim bmp As New System.Drawing.Bitmap(ms) Dim monoImage As Drawing.Bitmap = New Drawing.Bitmap(1200, 1800, Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format1bppIndexed) Dim rect As New Drawing.Rectangle(0, 0, 1200, 1800) monoImage = bmp.Clone(rect, Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format1bppIndexed) And then I resize it. This code works fine on my Windows 7 machine, but when I run it on the Windows 2003 Server box that it calls home, it always throws an OutOfMemoryException when it hits the bmp.Clone line. Any ideas as to what's happening, or perhaps a better solution to converting the image to B&W?

  The home page for gchart, a client side charting add-in for Google Web Toolkit (GWT), has a long screed about how the project's only maintainer thinks his Google account has been hacked and because of that he will be "disavowing/abandoning my own project and Google account". Does that mean the project is an orphan? Is somebody taking it over? There is always a risk on basing your project on somebody else's code because they may stop supporting it or abandon it during your project's life time, but it seems to me that with the fast evolution of Java and GWT, using gchart in a new project may be a big mistake. Am I right?

But I am expecting to have a submit button inside the Html begin form and use that substitution to submit the list of files with some more parameters. But when I do that the passing IEnumerable is always null in the Action method.   I've set up a CRON to call a URL in Kohana 3. php /home/user/public_html/index.php my/route/in/bootstrap.php It seems to access the URL fine. However, I have received this error (send back in an email that my host sends per CRON) Undefined index: HTTP_HOST SYSPATH/classes/kohana/url.php [ 40 ] Source of url.php Which is in a Kohana system file. Is this because the CRON job is not sending HTTP headers? How would I fix this and get it to work (hopefully without hacking the core files). Or am I doing the CRON wrong?

• Eclipse: Synchronizing project on Thumbdrive with PC

  I have a thumb drive (memory stick, flash drive, etc.) on which I use for my projects when I am away from my home PC. Currently I am accessing my Eclipse project directly from my thumb drive when connected to my PC. I would like to copy my files to the PC, develop on the PC, then "synchronize" with the thumb drive (update files on the thumb drive). I also need the reverse process too: synchronize thumb drive files with files on PC. I have looked at the FileSync plugin, but it specifically says it is one-way. How can I synchronize my Eclipse project both directions (PC to thumb drive and thumb drive to PC) on demand (I don't need this done automagically)?

  i built an appengine web app cricket.hover.in. The web app consists of about 15k url's linked in it, But even after a long time of my launch, no pages are indexed on google. Any base link place on my root site hover.in are being indexed with in minutes. but i placed the same link home page of root site a long back. but its of no use. can any one analyse , if there is any issue with cricket.hover.in or if bots have any issues with Google app engine actually tested the url using labs app of webmaster tools of google there the return is fine and html is clear. but when tested the same (cricket.hover.in) at the following urls its showing different results of failure www.dnsqueries.com/en/googlebot_simulator.php www.smart-it-consulting.com/internet/google/googlebot-spoofer/ but if i test some of my php or word press links at the above url's the results are good and fine. please help me with this.
