• Hide Java application from command-tab application switcher in OSX

  I have a java application that has an icon in the tray of the menu bar at the top of OSX. I've been able to remove the icon from the dock when the application is "minimized to tray", but it still appears when I command-tab to switch between my running applications. I'd like to hide it from there too, but I'm not sure how to do that, so I would appreciate any advice Thanks!

  I know non-blocking receive is not used as much in message passing, but still some intuition tells me, it is needed. Take for example GUI event driven applications, you need some way to wait for a message in a non-blocking way, so your program can execute some computations. One of the ways to solve this is to have a special thread with message queue. Is there some use case, where you would really need non-blocking receive even if you have threads?

  I am having an application which is built in 1.1 framework.This application is now rebuilt in 2.0 framework but due to some reason we have to use some of the pages of 1.1 framework. So for this we are executing both the applications simultaneously and n carrying out the work using querystrings.   Seen various examples of WPF applications I've seen the use of the Grid control for almost anything, even simplest things with only 1 column or row. Also, the WPF templates start with an empty grid. For me, using StackPanel or DockPanel is less verbose and are better for maintenance (think adding a row later and having to add +1 to all the other rows) Why is Grid better or what I am missing?

  We have successfully migrated all of our PHP and Ruby apps to use New Relic RPM both for Application performance measurements and server monitoring. We are very please with results, which have enabled us to improve the overall performance of the platfrom numeral times. We still have a lot of Perl applications which we need to support for legacy purposes, but in comparison to our New Relic powred apps we are completely blind to whats happening inside the apps and in peak hours. Is there something like "New Relic" for Perl apps?

  After I discontinued programming in C++ while entering into web authoring I was spoilt by PHP's high level constructs like hash tables or its dynamic, weak typing. I remembered the angst of C/C++ pointers and the maze of low-level Win32 API handles and message loops and that prevented me from utilizing environments like Code::Blocks for desktop applications. I am also not very fond of bulky, statically-typed C#/.NET environment. Any other ideas?

I'm playing with NHibernate and wanted to factualize these 2 statements regarding Sessions in web applications. 1) You should only ever have 1 ISessionFactory per database for the lifecycle of an application. 2) You should only have 1 ISession per HttpRequest or batch of HttpRequests (i.e. conversation) [I don't want tool or framework recommendation, just want to confirm the above]
