When I Add <DIV> Bottom Scroll Bar Appears, Even Though It Is Not Greater Than The Page Width

I have searched for this with no answer. My page loads up perfectly when I load the header, navigation and then center image...all 3 different divs. However I have more I need to add and the div tags change the size of the page even though the css I'm using isn't larger than the page. I have no idea what is happening. What's the meaning of the angle brackets on LINQ methods in Intellisense? (Contains<>, Count<>, Dis

They usually involve generics. But some methods with generics don't have them, and not all extension methods have them. They've just "been there" since day one, we've all seen them; but I realized I still don't know what they mean, and I can't find the answer anywhere. Now it's really bugging me. Google just turns up results that are about XML, etc. Is this officially documented anywhere? Thanks. EDIT: Well that's just great. Since I just created an account to make my first Stack Overflow post, to get an answer for this burning question; I'm not allowed to post my pretty Intellisense picture, or create a new tag "angle-brackets". I love Stack Overflow, but... what a welcome! Maybe my problem is that they aren't actually called "angle brackets"... ?? Chrome renders button links completely screwed up when placed inside a paragraph

I am fairly proficient in CSS but now I am running into a very strange rendering issue in Google Chrome 9. I am trying to create some fancy looking link buttons (basically heavily styled anchors). Here is some example markup: <a href="" class="button"> <figure class="sprite icon icon_back"></figure> Link button with icon</a> This markup may look a litte strange to you, there's a few things you should know: I am using HTML5's figure class to include an icon as part of the button. I have the proper reset CSS applied and Chrome can render this tag for sure. Instead of actually pointing to an image I am applying CSS classes to the figure element. Within the CSS I am using the spriting technique to show the correct portion of a single large sprite image. All of this is working fine in Firefox, and actually also in Chrome. The correct rendering can be seen in the following image: It renders like that in both Firefox and Chrome. Here comes the problem, if I place such a button within paragraph tags <p></p> this is what happens in Chrome only: Notice how the button is ripped apart? Only in Chrome and only when placed inside a paragraph. It gets even stranger: this only happens for the first button inside the paragraph, if I would place three buttons inside a paragraph, only the 1st one is screwed up. Your first question would probably be about the CSS. I've been converting some code from java to scala lately trying to teach myself the language. Suppose we have this scala class: class Person() { var name:String = "joebob" } Now I want to access it from java so I can't use dot-notation like I would if I was in scala. So I can get my var's contents by issuing: person = Person.new(); System.out.println(person.name()); and set it via: person = Person.new(); person.name_$eq("sallysue"); System.out.println(person.name()); This holds true cause our Person Class looks like this in javap: Compiled from "Person.scala" public class Person extends java.lang.Object implements scala.ScalaObject{ public Person(); public void name_$eq(java.lang.String); public java.lang.String name(); public int $tag() throws java.rmi.RemoteException; } Yes, I could write my own getters/setters but I hate filling classes up with that and it doesn't make a ton of sense considering I already have them -- I just want to alias the _$eq method better. (This actually gets worse when you are dealing with stuff like antlr because then you have to escape it and it ends up looking like person.name_\$eq("newname"); Note: I'd much rather have to put up with this rather than fill my classes with more setter methods. So what would you do in this situation?

Glassfish 3: How do I get and use a developers build so I can navigate a stack trace including Glas

I am migrating a JSF 1.1 application to JEE 6 Web profile, and doing it in steps. I am in the process of moving from JSP with JSF 1.1 to Facelets under JSF 1.2 using the jsf-facelets.jar for JSF 1.2, and received an "interesting" stack trace when trying to lookup a key in a Map using a "{Bean.foo.map.key}" where the stacktrace complained about "key" not being a valid integer. (After code introspection I am workarounding it using a number as the key). That bug is not what this question is about. In such a situation it is essential to be able to navigate the source of every line in the stack trace. In Eclipse I normally attach a source jar to every jar on the build path, but in this particular case the Glassfish server adapter creates a library automatically containing the jars. Also there is to my knowledge no debug build of Glassfish where sources are included in the bundle. Glassfish is a non-trivial Maven project, and a bit picky too. I am not very familiar with maven, but have managed to checkout the code from Subversion and build it for the 3.0 tag according to http://wiki.glassfish.java.net/Wiki.jsp?page=V3FullBuildInstructions#section-V3FullBuildInstructions-CheckoutTheWorkspace - it appears to be the code corresponding to the official released 3.0 version. After finishing the "mvn -U install" part, I have then tried to create Eclipse projects by first using "mvn -DdownloadSources=true eclipse:eclipse" and then import them in Eclipse JEE 3.5.2 and specifying the M2_REPO variable but many of the projects still have compilation errors, and I cannot locate any instructions from Oracle about how to do this. I'd appreciate some help in just getting a functional IDE workspace reflecting the 3.0 version of Glassfish. I have Eclipse 3.5.2, Netbeans 6.8 and 6.9 beta, and IntelliJ IDEA 9, and Linux/Windows/OS X do do it on.

passing string to a AJAX/JSON function

I’m having trouble getting a AJAX/JSON function to work correctly. I had this function grabbing value from a drop down box but now I want to use an anchor tag to set it's value. I thought it would be easy to just use the onClick event to pass string to the function I was using for the drop down box but it doesn’t do anything. I’m stumped! Please help with IFrame callback

Hi - thanks for clicking. I am trying to get status feedback using an IFrame for file uploads. I am not trying to get progress or percentages - just when a file is done uploading and if it was a success or failure. THE PROBLEM is that I can't seem to get the server response to appear on the client. I have to following design: I have an iframe on my page: <iframe id="target_frame" src="" style="border:0px; width:0px; height:0px"></iframe> The form tag points to it: <form enctype="multipart/form-data" id="fileUploadForm" name="fileUploadForm" action="picupload.aspx" method="post" target="target_frame"> And the submit button starts a file upload via the iframe: <input id="submit" type="submit" value="upload" /> In the picupload.aspx.cs file, I have a method that returns dynamic data. I then send it to the client: message = data; Response.Write(String.Format("<script language='javascript' type='text/javascript'>window.parent.handleResponse('{0}');</script>", message)); On the client, I have a response handler: function handleResponse(msg) { document.getElementById('statusDiv').innerHTML = msg; } My intent is to see the msg value change for each uploaded file but I never see anything appear in statusDiv, let alone dynamically changing messages. Php JSON Response Array

I have this php code. As you can see i query a mysql database through a function showallevents. I return a the $result to the $event variable. I try to return all rows of the data that i take with the msql_fetch_assoc. I don't get response even when i encode the $response variable. It returns null to all fields. Can anyone help me on what i am doing wrong. Google Chrome is doing things wrong again

Chrome is wrongly reporting width and height values for images during, or just after, load time. Jquery is used in this code example: <img id='image01' alt='picture that is 145x134' src='/images/picture.jpg' /> <script> var img = $( 'img#image01' ) img.width() // would return 145 in Firefox and 0 in Chrome. img.height() // would return 134 in Firefox and 0 in Chrome. </script> If you put the script in a onload function, the result is the same. but if you run the code a few seconds after the page has loaded, chrome returns the correct result. <script> function example () { var img = $( 'img#image01' ); img.width() // returns 145 in both Firefox and Chrome. img.height() // returns 134 in both Firefox and Chrome. } window.setTimeout( example, 1000 ) </script> Also if you specify the width and height values in the img tag, the script seems to work as expected in both Firefox and Chrome. <img id='image01' src='/images/picture.jpg' width=145 height=134 /> But as you cannot always control the html input, this is not an ideal workaround. Can jQuery be patched with a better workaround for this problem? or will I need to specify the width and height for every image in my code?

Can't get node.js built on cygwin

minifying final html output using regex with codeigniter

Google pages suggest you to minify html i.e. remove all the un-necessary spaces. Codeigniter does have feature of giziping output or it can be done via .htaccess. But still I also would like to remove un-necessary spaces from final html output as well. I played a bit with this peace of code to do it, and it seem to work. This does indeed result in html that is without excess spaces and removes other tab formatting. class Welcome extends CI_Controller { function _output() { echo preg_replace('!\s+!', ' ', $output); } function index(){ ... } } Now the problem with this is there may be tag like <pre>,<textarea>, etc.. which may have space in it and regx should remove them. So, how do I remove excess space from final html, without effecting spaces or formatting for these certain tags using regx? Thanks to @Alan Moore got the answer, this worked for me echo preg_replace('#(?ix)(?>[^\S ]\s*|\s{2,})(?=(?:(?:[^<]++|<(?!/?(?:textarea|pre)\b))*+)(?:<(?>textarea|pre)\b|\z))#', ' ', $output); @ridgerunner here did very good job of analyzing this regx, ended up using his solution. The first Label is styled using css, and the second with the Label's inline properties (both Labels have identical styling). But the first Label doesn't output properly, it's border is broken. If I replace the first Label's markup with plain "Hello world" text it renders properly, but it breaks again when I use markup. Can someone explain why this is happening?

A client of mine would like to redirect users to different front-ends of his eCommerce site based on a hit-counter (possibly a timer?). important: -The content is moderately different in the two sites, enough to consider them two different websites. Knowing this client he will likely add more drastic content changes and other front-ends. So for this question consider the content to be -This site has a rather large back-end. With affiliate networking, multiple payment gateways, order-tracking, and several other features in the works. It is essential that these two front-ends have identical back-end functionality I know that if it was just a simple CSS swap this would be as simple as an if statement that ran off some kind of counter stored in a DB... but the different HTML markup is throwing me for a loop. Q: How can I serve two different front-ends (HTML/CSS) based on a hit counter? Also, I don't have any clue what to tag this one as...

Here is what I think about Magento (plz correct me if I am wrong ) 1)Each module has its own layout.xml stored in /interface/theme/layouts/ folder. 2)Magento loads all these layouts for current theme and creates a big xml file. Now what I am confused at . a)If magento loads /default/default/ (interface & theme) then why all the templates & layouts are inside base/default/ ?? b)what if I create my module name “page” inside my namespace “Jason” i.e Jason_Page , now what will happen to blocks in layout files which are named c)Since all the layouts are loaded and merged into one big xml file , then what happen to all those reference blocks which have same name attribute and are inside “Default” handle tag ? e.g d)what is Local.xml layout for and its use ?? e)wats the relation ship between a module name foo , and its layout name foo.xml ? What will happen to layout.xml if two modules with same name exist in diff namespace ? Thanks in advance .

java web templates across multiple WAR files

I have a multi WAR web application that was designed badly. There is a single WAR that is responsible for handling some authorization against a database and defines a standard web page using a jsp taglib. The main WAR basically checks the privileges of the user and than based on that, displays links to the context path of the other deployed WARS. Each of the other deployed WARs includes this custom tag lib. I am working on redesigning this application, and one of the nice things that I want to retain is that we have other project teams that have developed these WAR modules that "plug into" our current system to take advantage of other things we have to offer. I am not entirely sure how to handle the page templates though. I need a templating system that would be easy enough to use across multiple wars (I was thinking of jsp fragments??). I really only need to define a consistent header and main navigation section. Whatever else is displayed on the page is up to the individual web project. Any suggestions? I hope that this is clear, if not I can elaborate more.

How can I make one Maven module depend on another?

OK, I thought I understood how to use Maven... I have a master project M which has sub-projects A, B, and C. C contains some common functionality (interfaces mainly) which is needed by A and B. I can run mvn compile jar:jar from the project root directory (the M directory) and get JAR files A.jar, B.jar, and C.jar. (The versions for all these artifacts are currently 2.0-SNAPSHOT.) The master pom.xml file in the M directory lists C under its <dependencyManagement> tag, so that A and B can reference C by just including a reference, like so: <dependency> <groupId>my.project</groupId> <artifactId>C</artifactId> </dependency> So far, so good. I can run mvn compile from the command line and everything works fine. But when I open the project in NetBeans, it complains with the problem: "Some dependency artifacts are not in the local repository", and it says the missing artifact is C. Likewise from the command line, if I change into the A or B directories and try to run mvn compile I get "Build Error: Failed to resolve artifact." I expect I could manually go to where my C.jar was built and run mvn install:install-file, but I'd rather find a solution that enables me to just work directly in NetBeans (and/or in Eclipse using m2eclipse). What am I doing wrong?

Ok, I have 5 tables which I need to pull information from based on one variable. gameinfo id | name | platforminfoid gamerinfo id | name | contact | tag platforminfo id | name | abbreviation rosterinfo id | name | gameinfoid rosters id | gamerinfoid | rosterinfoid The 1 variable would be gamerinfo.id, which would then pull all relevant data from gamerinfo, which would pull all relevant data from rosters, which would pull all relevant data from rosterinfo, which would pull all relevant data from gameinfo, which would then pull all relevant data from platforminfo. Basically it breaks down like this: gamerinfo contains the gamers basic information. rosterinfo contains basic information about the rosters (ie name and the game the roster is aimed towards) rosters contains the actual link from the gamer to the different rosters (gamers can be on multiple rosters) gameinfo contains basic information about the games (ie name and platform) platform info contains information about the different platforms the games are played on (it is possible for a game to be played on multiple platforms) I am pretty new to SQL queries involving JOINs and UNIONs and such, usually I would just break it up into multiple queries but I thought there has to be a better way, so after looking around the net, I couldn't find (or maybe I just couldn't understand what I was looking at) what I was looking for. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

jQuery .load from another page that contains Javascript

I've been using jQuery .load() to load content into a div. The content being .loaded occasionally has a document.ready() function which is called, and works, correctly (i.e. the ready() function is called). However, when I use an element ID in the .load(), such as: .load ("test.php #content"), the Javascript is no longer executed even if I put the script tag inside of the element that is being loaded. Does anyone have a solution to this other than to not use the element ID in the .load()? Thanks in advance. ASP.NET: Page HTML head rendering

I've been trying to figure out the best way to custom render the <head> element of a pag to get rid of the extra line breaks which is caused by <head runat="server">, so its properly formatted. Is there a better way to do this, for example a method which i can override to just custom render the <head>? Oh yeah ASP.NET MVC is not an option.

Click behaviour - Difference in IE and FF ?!

Hey folks, i just came to the conclusion that a project i am currently working on might have a "logical" error in functionality. Currently I'am using server technology with PHP/MySQL and JQuery. Within the page there's a normal link reference with tag <a href="contentpage?page=xxx">next step</a> The pain point now seems to be the given jquery click event on the same element. The intension was to save the (current) content of the page (- form elements) via another php script using the php session command. For any reason, IE can handle the click event of Jquery right before executing the standard html command, that reloads the current page again with the new page parameter. By using FF the behaviour is different. I assume, that FF first execute the html command and afterwards execute the javascript code which handles the click event. Therefore the resultset here is wrong respectivly empty. My question now is whether you made the same experience and how you handled / wordarrounded this problem. I'd be thankful fur any of your tips or further feedback. Maybe you also have a solution on how to rethink about the current architecture. Regards, Oliver
