    i need to port a VS2005 Project (.NET2) to a VS2008 (.NET3.5) (or to VS2010 .NET4 not yet defined). The project is composed by: resources and configuration files (VS project files, like: .settings .vbproj .myapp .config .xconfig .Designer.vb); a lot of VB codes; xsc, xsd, xss and xsx files; a lot of Crystal reports for VS2005; graphical resources. The application take data in order to generate reports from more DB SQL Server 2005 istances. What is the best way to approach to a migration activity? Is there an internal migration tool? If yes, what's the best practice to use it? Which kind of files will be automatically ported to the new VS version? Thanks in advance for all the provided information

  • Attach an HREF and a class to an img link generated by the PhotoSlider script?

    Hi folks, I'm using the very nice PhotoSlider script from http://opiefoto.com/articles/photoslider to create a slide show of images for one of my clients. This script replaces a previous hand-coded Javascript solution that allowed for the large image to be clicked resulting in a lightbox modal popup showing the full-size version of the clicked picture. Of course the client insists that this functionality remain intact, but the HTML code for the large image is generated on-the-fly by the PhotoSlider script itself. This means I'll need to modify the script slightly to attach a class ("lightbox") and an href (or just a click event, whichever makes more sense), but I'm not quite sure how best to accomplish this. I figure the event and class will have to be attached each time a thumbnail is clicked, but if this isn't the best way to do it any advice will be appreciated. The script is implemented into my page as can be seen here, without the click or class. I'd really appreciate any assistance stackoverflowites can offer. Thanks in advance!

For instance, suppose I would have the class... class Employee IEmployeeRepository { Add(Employee employee); } This works fine, nothing wrong with it so far... but now let's say I continue on.. class Manager : Employee Okay, now let's assume that I never need to enter a manager different than an Employee? What's the best approach here? Would a scenario such as .. IEmployeeRepository { Add<T>(T employee) where T : Employee } Be the best approach, or do I need to abstract a different repository for each type?

    What's the best way of reading only the specific lines (based on matching text) from a file? This is what I'm doing now: match_txt = "lhcb" for inFile in os.listdir('.'): readFile = open(inFile, 'r') lines = readFile.readlines() readFile.close() for line in lines: if line.find(match_txt)==0: #< do stuff here > i.e. I'm reading the lines, only with "lhcb" in it, from all the files in the present directory one by one. Is it the best way of doing that? Can it be done without loading the whole file in the memory in the first place?

That annoying! And also in a Visual Studio mixed editions team that’s too specific for the ultimate edition. As good as Visual Studio in most cases is, sometimes it is really far away from professional coding fundamentals and best practices.

  • How to find patterns (lines, circles,...) from a list of points?

    I have a list of points. Each point being an x and y coordinate (both of which are integers). Now I'm trying to find known patterns, such as lines, arcs or circles, knowing that the points are not perfectly on the pattern. What's the best way to do it? I don't have many clues to get started. Edit: the points are ordered. The user is drawing something and the program should detect the best patterns. For instance, if a triangle is drawn, it should detect three lines.

    Hi, here is the problem case i am writing a little third party library. In this library i have a class like this public class TestClass { public int TestField { get; private set; } public TestClass( ) { TestField = 1; } } Then i have a varialbe form this class like this public TestClass test = new TestClass( ); The problem i am facing is that usnig reflection like this PropertyInfo field = typeof( TestClass ).GetProperty( "TestField" ); field.SetValue( test, 2, null ); programers can change internal value of this class. this will be very bad thing becouse it can crash the hole library. My question is what is the best way to protect my code form such changes.I know i can use some kind of bool flag so tha value can be changed only ones but this is not very good salution is there a better one?     I have designed a website a few years back, and it ranks pretty well, customer is happy, no problems there. I took one of the pages and replaced manually all the tables with divs, used structured data and got the website to look exactly the same. I would like to know, what other steps should I take to improve or at least not hurt this page's rank, or if perhaps I should juts not bother altogether. What are best practices here?     I have a particle system with X particles. Each particle tests for collision with other particles. This gives X*X = X^2 collision tests per frame. For 60f/s, this corresponds to 60*X^2 collision detection per second. What is the best technological approach for these intensive calculations? Should I use F#, C, C++ or C#, or something else? The following are constraints The code is written in C# with the latest XNA Multi-threaded may be considered No special algorithm that tests the collision with the nearest neighbors or that reduces the problem The last constraint may be strange, so let me explain. Regardless constraint 3, given a problem with enormous computational requirement what would be the best approach to solve the problem. An algorithm reduces the problem; still the same algorithm may behave different depending on technology. Consider pros and cons of CLR vs native C.

  • Vectors for a 2D/3D World in Java

    I reading about Mathematics in Games and am wondering what is the best way to represent a Vector location in Java. I know there is a Vector class but I don't think this is what I need. There is also a Matrix class which looks like it may be what I want (a 1 dimensional matrix maybe). In particular, if I were to create a location Vector such as: v(x,y,z) where x,y and z are the coordinates in 3D space, what would be the best way to represent this in Java. It would be nice if I could also add, subtract and find the dot-product of Vectors. ideas?

  • Lucene.Net - How to treat a space-seperated phrase as a single token?

    I've implemented a search facility using Lucene.Net. The index includes UK academic qualifications, including "A Level". I'd like the users to be able to search using the phrase "A Level", but using the Standrad Analyser the "A" is stripped out as a stop-word and therefore only "Level" is indexed/searched. What's my best option to work around this? I'm guessing I need to somehow tokenise "A Level" to "A-Level" or similar by creating a custom analyser. Is this the best approach? Note that I want don't want the whole search to be a phrase query. i.e. in my search box I want the user to be able to enter <"A Level" AND English Maths Physics and this would return any with "A Level" and either of English MAths or Physics. Question updated to reflect this.

What I am asking is, what is the best way to store and then display this type of data. I want to DISPLAY data from my database to show like it would in the image. Should I have a column in my database for each column on the table, then say either A,B,C or D depending on what column it is in but then how would I display it using PHP in my code provided? Im struggling to find a good way of explaining this, I am sorry.

  • Store data in Ruby on Rails without Database

    I have a few data values that I need to store on my rails app and wanted to know if there are any alternatives to creating a database table just to do this simple task. Background: I'm writing some analytics and dashboard tools for my ruby on rails app and i'm hoping to speed up the dashboard by caching results that will never change. Right now I pull all users for the last 30 days, and re arange them so I can see the number of new users per day. It works great but takes quite a long time, in reality I should only need to calculate the most recent day and just store the rest of the array somewhere else. Where is the best way to store this array? Creating a database table seems a bit overkill, and i'm not sure that global variables are the correct answer. Is there a best practice for persisting data like this? If anyone has done anything like this before let me know what you did and how it turned out.

    I have an array that is many levels deep and I am wondering what is the best way to get one of the child element values that is deep in my array. I assume I need to use a recursive method, but what is the best way to do this? Or is there a faster way to do this? The array comes from an XML Parser that I am using which builds everything into an array like this (using NSLog to show the structure): { children = ( { children = ( { children = ( { children = ( ); data = 12; element = AssetID; } ); data = ""; element = "ns1:GetUserIdByUsernameResponse"; } ); data = ""; element = "SOAP-ENV:Body"; } ); data = ""; element = "SOAP-ENV:Envelope"; } What I would like to get at is the AssetID data, which in this case is 12.
