• Partner Blog Series: PwC Perspectives - Looking at R2 for Customer Organizations

  Welcome to the first of our partner blog series. November Mondays are all about PricewaterhouseCoopers' perespective on Identity and R2. In this series, we have identity management experts from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) share their perspective on (and experiences with) the recent identity management release, Oracle Identity Management R2. The purpose of the series is to discuss real world identity use cases that helped shape the innovations in the recent R2 release and the implementation strategies that customers are employing today with expertise from PwC. Part 1: Looking at R2 for Customer Organizations In this inaugural post, we will discuss some of the new features of the R2 release of Oracle Identity Manager that some of our customer organizations are implementing today and the business rationale for those. Oracle's R2 Security portfolio represents a solid step forward for a platform that is already market-leading.  Prior to R2, Oracle was an industry titan in security with reliable products, expansive compatibility, and a large customer base.  Oracle has taken their identity platform to the next level in their latest version, R2.  The new features include a customizable UI, a request catalog, flexible security, and enhancements for its connectors, and more. Oracle customers will be impressed by the new Oracle Identity Manager (OIM) business-friendly UI.  Without question, Oracle has invested significant time in responding to customer feedback about making access requests and related activities easier for non-IT users.  The flexibility to add information to screens, hide fields that are not important to a particular customer, and adjust web themes to suit a company's preference make Oracle's Identity Manager stand out among its peers.  Customers can also expect to carry UI configurations forward with minimal migration effort to future versions of OIM.  Oracle's flexible UI will benefit many organizations looking for a customized feel with out-of-the-box configurations. Organizations looking to extend their services to end users will benefit significantly from new usability features like OIM’s ‘Catalog.’  Customers familiar with Oracle Identity Analytics' 'Glossary' feature will be able to relate to the concept.  It will enable Roles, Entitlements, Accounts, and Resources to be requested through the out-of-the-box UI.  This is an industry-changing feature as customers can make the process to request access easier than ever.  For additional ease of use, Oracle has introduced a shopping cart style request interface that further simplifies the experience for end users.  Common requests can be setup as profiles to save time.  All of this is combined with the approval workflow engine introduced in R1 that provides the flexibility customers need to meet their compliance requirements. Enhanced security was also on the list of features Oracle wanted to deliver to its customers.  The new end-user UI provides additional granular access controls.  Common Help Desk use cases can be implemented with ease by updating the application profiles.  Access can be rolled out so that administrators can only manage a certain department or organization.  Further, OIM can be more easily configured to select which fields can be read-only vs. updated.  Finally, this security model can be used to limit search results for roles and entitlements intended for a particular department.  Every customer has a different need for access and OIM now matches this need with a flexible security model. One of the important considerations when selecting an Identity Management platform is compatibility.  The number of supported platform connectors and how well it can integrate with non-supported platforms is a key consideration for selecting an identity suite.  Oracle has a long list of supported connectors.  When a customer has a requirement for a platform not on that list, Oracle has a solution too.  Oracle is introducing a simplified architecture called Identity Connector Framework (ICF), which holds the potential to simplify custom connectors.  Finally, Oracle has introduced a simplified process to profile new disconnected applications from the web browser.  This is a useful feature that enables administrators to profile applications quickly as well as empowering the application owner to fulfill requests from their web browser.  Support will still be available for connectors based on previous versions in R2. Oracle Identity Manager's new R2 version has delivered many new features customers have been asking for.  Oracle has matured their platform with R2, making it a truly distinctive platform among its peers. In our next post, expect a deep dive into use cases for a customer considering R2 as their new Enterprise identity solution. • ANTS CLR and Memory Profiler In Depth Review (Part 2 of 2 &ndash; Memory Profiler)

  One of the things that people might not know about me, is my obsession to make my code as efficient as possible. Many people might not realize how much of a task or undertaking that this might be, but it is surely a task as monumental as climbing Mount Everest, except this time it is a challenge for the mind… In trying to make code efficient, there are many different factors that play a part – size of project or solution, tiers, language used, experience and training of the programmer, technologies used, maintainability of the code – the list can go on for quite some time. I spend quite a bit of time when developing trying to determine what is the best way to implement a feature to accomplish the efficiency that I look to achieve. One program that I have recently come to learn about – Red Gate ANTS Performance (CLR) and Memory profiler gives me tools to accomplish that job more efficiently as well. In this review, I am going to cover some of the features of the ANTS memory profiler set by compiling some hideous example code to test against. Introduction – Part 2 In my last post, I reviewed the feature packed Red Gate ANTS Performance Profiler.  Separate from the Red Gate Performance Profiler is the Red Gate ANTS Memory Profiler – a simple, easy to use utility for checking how your application is handling memory management…  A tool that I wish I had had many times in the past.  This post will be focusing on the ANTS Memory Profiler and its tool set. The memory profiler has a large assortment of features just like the Performance Profiler, with the new session looking nearly exactly alike: ANTS Memory Profiler Memory profiling is not something that I have to do very often…  In the past, the few cases I’ve had to find a memory leak in an application I have usually just had to trace the code of the operations being performed to look for oddities…  Sadly, I have come across more undisposed/non-using’ed IDisposable objects, usually from ADO.Net than I would like to ever see.  Support is not fun, however using ANTS Memory Profiler makes this task easier.  For this round of testing, I am going to use the same code from my previous example, using the WPF application. This time, I will choose the ‘Profile Memory’ option from the ANTS menu in Visual Studio, which launches the solution in its currently configured state/start-up project, and then launches the ANTS Memory Profiler to help.  It prepopulates all of the fields with the current project information, and all I have to do is select the ‘Start Profiling’ option. When the window comes up, it is actually quite barren, just giving ideas on how to work the profiler.  You start by getting to the point in your application that you want to profile, and then taking a ‘Memory Snapshot’.  This performs a full garbage collection, and snapshots the managed heap.  Using the same WPF app as before, I will go ahead and take a snapshot now. As you can see, ANTS is already giving me lots of information regarding the snapshot, however this is just a snapshot.  The whole point of the profiler is to perform an action, usually one where a memory problem is being noticed, and then take another snapshot and perform a diff between them to see what has changed.  I am going to go ahead and generate 5000 primes, and then take another snapshot: As you can see, ANTS is already giving me a lot of new information about this snapshot compared to the last.  Information such as difference in memory usage, fragmentation, class usage, etc…  If you take more snapshots, you can use the dropdown at the top to set your actual comparison snapshots. If you beneath the timeline, you will see a breadcrumb trail showing how best to approach profiling memory using ANTS.  When you first do the comparison, you start on the Summary screen.  You can either use the charts at the bottom, or switch to the class list screen to get to the next step.  Here is the class list screen: As you can see, it lists information about all of the instances between the snapshots, as well as at the bottom giving you a way to filter by telling ANTS what your problem is.  I am going to go ahead and select the Int16[] to look at the Instance Categorizer Using the instance categorizer, you can travel backwards to see where all of the instances are coming from.  It may be hard to see in this image, but hopefully the lightbox (click on it) will help: I can see that all of these instances are rooted to the application through the UI TextBlock control.  This image will probably be even harder to see, however using the ‘Instance Retention Graph’, you can trace an objects memory inheritance up the chain to see its roots as well.  This is a simple example, as this is simply a known element.  Usually you would be profiling an actual problem, and comparing those differences.  I know in the past, I have spotted a problem where a new context was created per page load, and it was rooted into the application through an event.  As the application began to grow, performance and reliability problems started to emerge.  A tool like this would have been a great way to identify the problem quickly. Overview Overall, I think that the Red Gate ANTS Memory Profiler is a great utility for debugging those pesky leaks.  3 Biggest Pros: Easy to use interface with lots of options for configuring profiling session Intuitive and helpful interface for drilling down from summary, to instance, to root graphs ANTS provides an API for controlling the profiler. Not many options, but still helpful. 2 Biggest Cons: Inability to automatically snapshot the memory by interval Lack of complete integration with Visual Studio via an extension panel Ratings Ease of Use (9/10) – I really do believe that they have brought simplicity to the once difficult task of memory profiling.  I especially liked how it stepped you further into the drilldown by directing you towards the best options. Effectiveness (10/10) – I believe that the profiler does EXACTLY what it purports to do.  Features (7/10) – A really great set of features all around in the application, however, I would like to see some ability for automatically triggering snapshots based on intervals or framework level items such as events. Customer Service (10/10) – My entire experience with Red Gate personnel has been nothing but good.  their people are friendly, helpful, and happy! UI / UX (9/10) – The interface is very easy to get around, and all of the options are easy to find.  With a little bit of poking around, you’ll be optimizing Hello World in no time flat! • SharePoint logging to a list

  I recently worked in an environment with several servers. Locating the correct SharePoint log file for error messages, or development trace calls, is cumbersome. And once the solution hit the cloud, it got even worse, as we had no access to the log files at all. Obviously we are not the only ones with this problem, and the current trend seems to be to log to a list. This had become an off-hour project, so rather than do the sensible thing and find a ready-made solution, I decided to do it the hard way. So! Fire up Visual Studio, create yet another empty SharePoint solution, and start to think of some requirements. Easy on/offI want to be able to turn list-logging on and off.Easy loggingFor me, this means being able to use string.Format.Easy filteringLet's have the possibility to add some filtering columns; category and severity, where severity can be "verbose", "warning" or "error". Easy on/off Well, that's easy. Create a new web feature. Add an event receiver, and create the list on activation of the feature. Tear the list down on de-activation. I chose not to create a new content type; I did not feel that it would give me anything extra. I based the list on the generic list - I think a better choice would have been the announcement type. I've added a couple of fields; a field for category, and a 'severity'. Both to make it easier to find relevant log messages. Notice that I don't have to call list.Update() after adding the fields - this would cause a nasty error (something along the lines of "List locked by another user"). If it does - quit; our job here is done.Adding "severity" and "Category" to the view is not exactly rocket science. But then? Then we build the sort order query. Through XML. The lines are numerous, but boring. All to achieve the CAML query which is commented out. The major benefit of using the dom to build XML, is that you may get compile time errors for spelling mistakes. I say 'may', because although the compiler will not let you forget to close a tag, it will cheerfully let you spell "Name" as "Naem". Whichever you prefer, at the end of the day the view will sort by modified date and ID, both descending. I added the ID as there may be several items with the same time stamp. So! Simple logging to a list, with sensible a view, and with normal functionality for creating your own filterings. I should probably have added some more views in code, ready filtered for "only errors", "errors and warnings" etc. And it would be nice to block verbose logging completely, but I'm not happy with the alternatives. (yetanotherfeature or an admin page seem like overkill - perhaps just removing it as one of the choices, and not log if it isn't there?) Before you comment - yes, try-catches have been removed for clarity. There is nothing worse than having a logging function that breaks your site!

• Dynamics CRM error "A currency is required if a value exists in a money field" after converting Acti

  We have a Dynamics CRM 4.0 instance with some custom attributes of type "money" on the Case entity and on all Activity entities (Email, Phone Call, etc.) When I use the built-in "Convert Activity to Case" functionality I find that the resulting Case does not have a Currency set, even if the Activity it was created from does have it. Whenever the case is opened the user then gets this JavaScript error: A currency is required if a value exists in a money field. Select a currency and try again. This is extremely annoying! How do I fix it? Is there any way I can set the currency? It needs to be done synchronously, because the Case is opened immediately when it's created from an Activity. So even if I started a workflow to set the currency the user would still get that error at least once. Alterntatively, can I just suppress the warning somehow? I don't really care about setting the Currency, I just want the error gone. Thanks in advance for any help!

• Decoding ima4 audio format

  To reduce the download size of an iPhone application I'm compressing some audio files. Specifically I'm using afconvert on the command line to change .wav format to .caf format w/ ima4 compression. I've read this (wooji-juice.com) awesome post about this exact topic. I'm having trouble w/ the "decoding ima4 packets" step. I've looked at their sample code and I'm stuck. Please help w/ some pseudo code or sample code that can guide me in the right direction. Thanks! Additional info: Here is what I've completed and where I'm having trouble... I can play .wav files in both the simulator and on the phone. I can compress .wav files to .caf w/ ima4 compression using afconvert on the command line. I'm using the SoundEngine that came w/ CrashLanding (I fixed one memory leak). I modified the SoundEngine code to look for the mFormatID 'ima4'. I don't understand the blog post linked above starting w/ "Calculating the size of the unpacked data". Why do I need to do this? Also, what does the term "packet" refer to? I'm very new to any sort of audio programming.

• SPP Socket createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord will not connect

  Hello, I want to use Android 2.1 to connect to an external Bluetooth device, wich is offering an SPP port to me. In this case it is an external GPS unit. When I'm trying to connect I can't connect an established socket while being in the "client" mode. Then if I try to set up a socket (being in the server role), to RECEIVE text from my PC everything works just fine. The Computer can connect as the client to the Socket on the Phone via SPP using the SSP UUID or some random UUID. So the Problem is not that I'm using the wrong UUID. But the other way around (e.g. calling connect on the established client socket) createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID uuid)) just doesn't work. Sadly I don't have the time to inspect the problem further. It would be greate If somebody could point me the right way. In the following part of the Logfile has to be the Problem. • Reset scale/width/zoom of Safari on iPhone using JavaScript/onorientationchange

  I am displaying different content depending on how the user is holding his/her phone using the onorientationchange call in the body tag. This works great - I hide one div while making the other visible. The div in portrait mode looks great on first load. I use this to get the right scale/zoom: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0;" /> Even if the content in portrait mode run over, the width is correct and the user can scroll down. The display in landscape mode is perfect too. However, if content in landscape mode requires the user the scroll down, then when the user returns to portrait mode, the screen is "zoomed out" so to speak. This happens whether or not the user scrolled down while in landscape mode. I've tried many different things to try to get the scale/zoom/width of the screen right, but no luck. Is there any way to do this? Thanks in advance!

Resetting the phone, clearing google play store cache, application data. Changing the versioncode number in different combinations still doesn't work. Edit: In case someone else was facing this problem I received an mail from the google support team We are aware that newly created accounts for testing in-app billing and Google licensing server (LVL) return errors, and are working on resolving this problem. Please stay tuned. In the meantime, you can use any accounts created prior to August 1st, 2012, for testing. So it seems to be a problem with their server, if I use the main developer thread everything works fine.

• File path for J2ME FileConnection?

  Hi, I'm writing a MIDlet which needs to write file. I'm using FileConnection from JSR-75 to accomplish this. The intention is to have this MIDlet runnning on as much devices as possible (all MIDP 2.0 devices with JSR-75 support, ideally). On several emulators and an HTC Touch Pro2, I can perfectly use the following code to get the root of the filesystem: Enumeration drives = FileSystemRegistry.listRoots(); String root = (String) drives.nextElement(); String path = "file:///" + root; However, on a Nokia S60 5th edition emulator, trying to open a FileConnection to this path throws a java.lang.SecurityException. Apparently S60 devices do not allow connections to the root of the filesystem. I realise I can use something like System.getProperty("fileconn.dir.photos"), but that isn't supported on all devices either. So, my actual question: what is the best approach to get a path to create a FileConnection with, that allows for maximum portability? Thanks. Edit: I suppose I could iterate over all the roots in the Enumeration, and check for a writable one, but that's hardly optimal for two reasons. First, there aren't necessarily any writable roots. Second, this could be the phone memory or a memory card, so the storage method wouldn't be consistent across devices, which is rather ugly.

• Server socket programming in Android 1.5, most power efficient way?

  Hello people, I am doing a project where I have too develop an application that listens for incoming events by a service. The device that has to listen too events is an Android phone with Android SDK 1.5 on it. Currently the services that call events only implement communication trough UDP or TCP sockets. I can solve my problem by setting up a ServerSocket, but i doubt that's the most power efficient way. This application will be running most of the time, with Wi-Fi on, and I'd like too reach an long battery duration. I've been looking for options on the internet for my question for a while but i couldn't get a real answer. I've got the following questions: What is the most efficient way too listen to incoming events? Should I make an ServerSocket? or what are my options? Are there any other implementations that are more power efficient? Ive been also thinking of implementing communication trough XMPP. Not sure if this is the best way. I'm not forced too an specific implementation. All suggestions are welcome! Thanks for the help, Antek

• Need content in UIWebView to display quickly

  Part of my app caches web pages for offline viewing. To do that, I am saving the HTML fetched from a site and rewriting img urls to point to a file on the local store. When I load the html into a UIWebView, it loads the images as expected and everything's fine. I am also caching stylesheets in this fashion. The problem is that when I put the phone into airplane mode, loading this cached html causes the UIWebView to display a blank screen and pause for a while before displaying the page. I've figured out that it's caused by non-cached URLs referenced from the original HTML doc that the web view is trying to fetch. These other URLs include images within the cached stylesheets, content in iframes, and javascript that opens a connection to fetch other resources. The pause happens when the UIWebView tries to fetch these resources, and the web page only appears after all these other fetches have timed out. My questions is, how can I make UIWebView just display the stuff I've cached immediately? Here are my thoughts: write even more code to cache these other references. This is potentially a ton more code to catch all the edge cases, etc., especially having to parse the Javascript to see what it loads after the page is loaded force UIWebView to time out immediately so there's no pause. I haven't figured out how to do this. somehow get what's already loaded to display even though the external references haven't finished fetching yet strip the code of all scripts, link tags and iframes to "erase" the external references. I've tried this one, but for some sites, the resultant page is severely messed up Can anyone help me here? I've been working on this forever, and am running out of ideas.

• TextBlock Wrapping in WPF Layout

  Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to do something similar to the twitter silverlight app that Scott Guthrie demoed recently in WPF: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/03/18/building-a-windows-phone-7-twitter-application-using-silverlight.aspx Unfortunately, I seem to be having a hard time understanding the wpf layout system in some fundamental way. I've been trying various combinations of horizontalalignment/stretch, width/auto at different levels in the hierarchy, and I can't seem to get the "message" textblock to wrap without assigning an explicit width. • Compare base class part of sub class instance to another base class instance

  I have number of DTO classes in a system. They are organized in an inheritance hierarchy. class Person { public int Id { get; set; } public string FirstName { get; set; } public string ListName { get; set; } } class PersonDetailed : Person { public string WorkPhone { get; set; } public string HomePhone { get; set; } public byte[] Image { get; set; } } The reason for splitting it up is to be able to get a list of people for e.g. search results, without having to drag the heavy image and phone numbers along. Then the full PersonDetail DTO is loaded when the details for one person is selected. The problem I have run into is comparing these when writing unit tests. Assume I have Person p1 = myService.GetAPerson(); PersonDetailed p2 = myService.GetAPersonDetailed(); // How do I compare the base class part of p2 to p1? Assert.AreEqual(p1, p2); The Assert above will fail, as p1 and p2 are different classes. Is it possible to somehow only compare the base class part of p2 to p1? Should I implement IEquatable<> on Person? Other suggestions?

• Scrolling issues with GridView in Android

  I am having weird scrolling issues in my pretty simple GridView. Each item in the Grid is simply and ImageView and a TextView. The activity itself is simply an application selector. It looks like a rough version of the basic App Tray in Android. The issue is that after spending some times scrolling through my view, it will inevitably allow me to continue scrolling past the top row of icons, to a blank screen, and the scroll bar will disappear, leaving me stuck. It doesn't happen every time I go to the top of the view, only sometimes, and usually only after some excessive scrolling. If I happen to notice the problem and catch it before the top row disappears off the bottom of the screen, I can usually scroll back through the view and spot some icons missing. There are empty spaces in the grid, and I can only assume that those icons have been moved to some bizarre position, which is allowing the view to scroll past the top. This is my first Android app beyond a basic Hello World, so it's likely that I've just screwed up something in my layout files. I also realize that this is probably a pretty confusing description, so I'm hoping someone has experienced this and my search abilities simply were unable to find it. I can post my layout files or other code if someone thinks that's useful. Oh, and the program is built against 1.5, but is running on 2.2 (whatever state of 2.2 that was that snuck out last week) on my phone. I don't have enough apps to test this on an emulator, but could probably set something up if someone felt it necessary. Thanks in advance for any help on the issue.

• iPhone Keychain Questions

  Some questions: * Is there some way to view the data present in the iPhone keychain? * The items an application adds, cannot be accessed by any other application, can it? * What is the purpose of the identifier and access group in the initialization? My guess is that the identifier is simply used to find items but I'm a little bit unsure of the access group. If the access group is assigned nil, all applications can access the items? If the access group is assigned X, could the items be accessed by another application with the same string X as access group or what is the purpose of the access group in this case? * Is the data in the keychain removed when the application is removed? If not, how do I achieve that? And finally: I can't get the KeychainItemWrapper (Apple example) to work. I've added the KeychainItemWrapper files to my project and when running it on the phone, an exception is thrown by SecItemAdd, saying that one or more parameters were not valid (result code -50). • Android: SharedPreference: Defaults not set at startup...

  I have Listpreferences in my app. They don't appear to be setting to their defaults right after installation - they appear to be null. I'm trying to figure out why my default preferences are not being set right after installation. In my main code I have: SharedPreferences sp = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); InUnits = sp.getString("List1", "defValue"); InAngs = sp.getString("List2", "defValue"); OutUnits = sp.getString("List3", "defValue"); OutAngs = sp.getString("List4", "defValue"); Right after the above code executes, each variable contains "defValue" instead of the actual values I have assigned in my ListPreference below. My preference xml file is called, "settings.xml". Here's what one of the ListPreferences there looks like: <ListPreference android:key="List1" android:title="Input: Alph" android:summary="Choose Alph or Ralph" android:entries="@array/inputAlph" android:entryValues="@array/input_Alph_codes" android:dialogTitle="Input Alph" android:defaultValue="ININ"/> Here's what some of my strings.xml file looks like: <string-array name="inputUnits"> <item>Alph</item> <item>Ralph</item> </string-array> <string-array name="input_Alph_codes"> <item>ININ</item> <item>INMM</item> </string-array> When I go to menu, and then settings, I can see my defaults checked (radiobuttoned). This only happens when I first install my app on the phone. After I go to the settings screen once and then right out of it, the app is fine and accepts any setting changes. By the way, as you can see, "List1" is the android:key within a file called settings.xml in my res/xml folder.

• Android - Launch Intent within ExpandableListView

  Hello, I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to launch an intent within an ExpandableListView. Basically one of the "Groups" is Phone Number and it's child is the number. I want the user to be able to click it and have it automatically call that number. Is this possible? How? Here is my code to populate the ExpandableListView using a Map called "data". • Implementing Autocompletion in iPhone UITextField for contacts in address book

  Hi, I would like to have a UITextField or UITextView in where as I do some input, alternatives will appear something similar to when you type an address in Mail Application, alternatives appear down and is possible tap them so get a better input user interface.(since there is no need to type the complete word or address or phone number) I do know how to fetch data from Address Book framework, also how to input text in UITextField/UITextView and its delegates but I don't know what kind of structure to use for fetching and showing data as the user do his/her input. I know basic CoreData if this matters, I hope I can get some help. UPDATE (2010/3/10): I don't have problem make a native-like GUI but I am asking about the algorithm, does any body knows what kind algorithm is best for this thing? maybe some binary tree? Or should I just fetch data from coredata everytime? Thanks Ignacio UPDATE (2010/03/28): I've been very busy these days, so I have not tried UISearchResults but it seems fine to me.   This is a vague, open question, so if you have no interest in these, please leave now. A few years ago it seemed everyone thought the death of desktop software was imminent. Web applications were the future. Everyone would move to cloud-based software-as-a-service systems, and developing applications for specific end-user platforms like Windows would soon become something of a ghetto. Joel's "How Microsoft Lost the API War" was but one of many such pieces sounding the death knell for this way of software development. Flash-forward to 2010, and the hype is all around mobile devices, particularly the iPhone. Software-as-a-Service vendors--even small ones such as YCombinator startups--go out of their way to build custom applications for the iPhone and other smart phone devices; applications that can be quite sophisticated, that run only on specific hardware and software architectures and are thus inherently incompatible. Now some of you are probably thinking, "Well, only the decline of desktop software was predicted; mobile devices aren't desktops." But the term was used by those predicting its demise to mean laptops also, and really any platform capable of running a browser. What was promised was a world where HTML and related standards would supplant native applications and their inherent difficulties. We would all code to the browser, not the OS. But here we are in 2010 with the AppStore bulging and development for the iPad just revving up. A few days ago, I saw someone on Hacker News claim that the future of computing was entirely in small, portable devices. Apparently the future is underpowered, requires dexterous thumbs and induces near-sightedness. How do those who so vehemently asserted one thing now assert the opposite with equal vehemence, without making even the slightest admission of error? And further, how are we as developers supposed to sift through all of this? I bought into the whole web-standards utopianism that was in vogue back in '06-'07 and now feel like it was a mistake. Is there some formula one can apply rather than a mere appeal to experience?

• The best way to package iPhone/iPad static libraries?

  Hi everyone, I have a couple of static Phone/iPad libraries I an working on. The problem I am looking for advise on is the best way to package the libraries. My objective is to make it easy to use the libraries in other projects and include the correct one in a build with minimal problems. To make it more interesting I currently build 4 versions of each library as follows armv6/armv7 release (devices) i386 release (simulator) armv6/armv7 debug (devices) i386 debug (simulator) The difference between the release and debug versions is that the debug versions contain a lot of NSLog(...) code which enables people to see whats going on internally as an aid to debugging. Currently when I build the whole projects I arrange the libraries into two directories like this: release lib-device.a lib-simulator.a debug lib-device.a lib-simulator.a This works ok except that when include in projects, both paths are added to the library search path and switching a target from one to the other is a pain. Or alternatively I end up with two targets. The alternative I am thinking of is to change the directories like this: release device lib.a simulator lib.a debug device lib.a simulator lib.a In playing with XCode is appears that all xcode uses the lbrary references of a project for is to get the name of the library file, which it then looks up in the library paths. Thus by parameterising the library path with the current built type and target device, I can effectively auto switch. What do you guys think? Is there a better way to do this? ciao Derek

The problem is as follows: I'm developing Windows Phone 7 app. Application Bar needs to be initiated in C# (as far as I know there is no xaml code for application bar at this stage). As a result I have no idea how to bind a command to a application bat button in from c#, now xaml. Thanks in advance your your help.
