• htaccess: multiple redirections depending on domain name

  I have a server and a few domains and two webpages. Can't figure out how to do the following: A.com -> root\ www.A.com -> root\ B.com -> root\ www.B.com -> root\ C.com -> root\folder1\ www.C.com -> root\folder1\ By the way. What is the 'and' logical operator used in htaccess? I found that 'or' is [OR] but [AND] doesn't seem to work. And what is the language htaccess is written in:)? UPDATE I made a mistake in the question though. Here's what I'd really want to do. DNS is set for the domain A.com to point to the root folder of the server. Now I would like to set the following redirections: Any domain other than C.com and other than D.com redirects (301) to www.A.com. A.com points to the root folder of the server anyway and that is set in DNS. Domain www.C.com points to the folder 'folder1' on the server. Can it be set in htaccess? Now domains C.com, www.D.com and D.com redirects to www.C.com.

• Apache reverse proxy with VirtualHost not serving a page

  I have an Apache reverse proxy set to move requests to a Tomcat Applet. The config is similar to: <VirtualHost 100.100.100.100:80> ProxyPass /AppName/App http://1.1.1.1/AppName/App ProxyPassReverse /AppName/App http://1.1.1.1/AppName/App </VirtualHost> I also have a page called summary.html that exists on 1.1.1.1 as: http://1.1.1.1/AppName/summary.html When I browse directly to it I have no problem viewing it, however if I try to get there via the reverse proxy I get a blank page. Wireshark shows me a 503, but this one is coming from the Apache reverse proxy (IP 100.100.100.100) and not the Tomcat (IP 1.1.1.1). Should I add http://1.1.1.1/AppName/ to the config? How? I tried it but I get a blank page, however this one shows on the URL bar of the browser the internal IP of the Tomcat, so, no go. Help is appreciated. Thanks. • Advice: USB Monitoring Programming

  I need an advice about USB programming in linux. i have to design a USB monitoring program that 'll keep checking usb ports of a linux cent os. as soon as a usb or external hard disk is connected, this program will shoot an email to some specific person about detail of usb (as size, mount on, time). when usb is disconnected, it will again shoot an email to some person with same kind of information. mean while this program will also write logs in syslog/messages with name of programing for easy tracking. Now I want ask that what is best way to develop this program. as I'm new to this field so i know nothing about it? either i should use perl, bash scripting or some other language? I have no idea what is right way to adopt coz this program will keep running all the time to keep a check on usb ports. I know few commands in like lsusb, fdisk (to check attached usb) and df -h (to get detail of usb) but dont know how i can achieve using these commands that i am thinking. also one more thing that in future i also need to modify this program for ubuntu and Citrix XenServer and it should be same everywhere.

• Windows 7: Moving Program Files location during install using unattend.xml

  I am planning on using an unattend.xml to create a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit setup with Users and ProgramData on a 2nd drive. I have found many samples of how to do this (see below). However I would also like to move Program Files to a 3rd drive as well. i.e.: C:\Windows [SSD] D:\Users [HDD1] D:\ProgramData [HDD1] P:\Program Files [HDD2] P:\Program Files (x86) [HDD2] I have found that this was possible using unattend.txt in XP but all documentation or examples I find about Win 7 only mention Users and ProgramData, not Program Files. Is this possible using an answer file? • Printer spooler service stop running when sent print job

  Every time i am sending a print job to the printer, i am don't get any response from the printer, and at the printer job list at the status of the job, i see that there was an Error, but it don't give me any clue on what could be the problem. After some investigation i found that every time that i send the print job to the printer the printer spooler service stops to run, then after a second or two it start again (i think that this behavior is related to the printer spooler settings to rerun it self after it stops). Things that i have tried so far: Remove and Install again the Driver. After removing the driver, i have removed the unnecessary registry keys according to this article from Microsoft, these are: Rename all files and folders in: c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86 Remove anything but Drivers Print and Processors: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86 Remove anything in here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors but: BJ Language Monitor Local Port Microsoft Document Imaging Writer Monitor Microsoft Shared Fax Monitor Standard TCP/IP Port USB Monitor WSD Port Disconnect and Reconnect the Printer. Clean the computer from Viruses & Spywares. Currently i am stuck, i have no more things to try, if anybody know about any kind of solution please let me know about it. Since i am want to keep this post as general problem that relate to the printer spooler, and not just my particular problem, i didn't included inside the windows version & the printer model, they are (although i think that it isn't relate just for that particular model): Windows 7 32bit, HP Officejet 4500 G510g-m (connect to the computer via USB). • Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS is not recognized anymore on Mac OS X

  I have used Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS for years now, alongside with Elgato EyeTV software. I am a happy and completely satisfied user! Since a couple of weeks the USB sitck stopped working on my MacPro1,1 (OS version 10.6.3): EyeTV does not see any device attached, and actually, the green led on the stick stays off. It is not a USB port fault: I have unplugged any other USB/Firewire device and tried with different USB ports, to no avail (any other USB devices work as expected on any port) I have completely uninstalled EyeTV software, including preferences and system daemons/extensions, rebooted and reinstalled the latest EyeTV. No way. Reset the PRAM. Nope. Checked the Apple System Profiler - USB: No device attached, The MacPro does not see it at all. I need to say that: a) The device worked as a charm even with the latest OS 10.6.x (so it's not a OS upgrade cause). b) I have plugged the Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS to my MacBook5,1 where EyeTV is not installed and was never installed: The green led on the stick turns on, the growl bubble pops up, and the device is perfectly recognized by the system. Apple System Profiler says (sorry, Italian language): Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS (2882): ID prodotto: 0x005e ID fornitore: 0x0ccd Versione: 1.10 Numero di serie: 061102005755 Velocità: Fino a 12 Mb/sec Produttore: TerraTec Electronic GmbH ID posizione: 0x04100000 Corrente disponibile (mA): 500 Corrente necessaria (mA): 500 At this point I am pretty sure the Terratec stick is not damaged and there is something wrong with my MacPro. • Failure to connect to admin share pops up dialog

  I'm having an issue with a curious error message when accessing the administrative share on a remote machine. Specifically, the client is logged in as the domain administrator on the machine A, and runs some code that tries to access the admin share on B (a domain member). The access is done in .NET, along these lines (though I am not sure if the method of access makes a difference): string path = @"\\B\admin$"; if (Directory.Exists(path)) { try { path += @"\temp\"; if (!Directory.Exists(path)) { Directory.CreateDirectory(path); } path += "myfile_remote"; File.Copy("myfile", path); Now, on some machines this fails. That is not a big problem as we have a fallback. I'd like to know why but it is not the real issue. The problem is that running this piece of code causes a dialog box to pop up for the logged-in user on B, saying "network error trying to access \\B\admin$\temp\myfile_remote. Contact the network administrator and ask for the correct permissions". Unfortunately, it is a foreign language Windows so I'll spare you all posting a screenshot. It is skinned like a standard Windows dialog box. Why exactly is that dialog box popping up for the user and is there anything I can do about it? Edit to add: B is a Windows 7 Enterprise installation. The client is not aware of any GPO policies being installed. There is AV from Trend Micro installed.

• Strange sound behavior

  First of all, sorry for the tittle. English isn't my native language, and I can't find a word to describe the strange behavior I'm getting here. In the most simple explanation, is like sound keeps going down and up again... Think in a kid with that old radios that have a circled volume button. Think like these kid keeps "turning" the volume button. That is the behavior I'm getting here. At first, I believed that it was a pulseaudio issue, but, it isn't. I followed the wiki part I think that should be my problem, but it didn't work. After that, as I'm using XFCE, I didn't really need pulseaudio, so I removed it and stays with a clean alsa, hopping that will fix my problem. Sweet mistake. It really looks like a kid looking for trouble. I believed it worked, and, suddenly, here is the same issue again. BTW: I have a full-upgraded testing system (yeah, I upgraded to testing hopping for new pulseaudio version which fix the issue), no pulseaudio at all, just xfce, started with startxfce. What can I do to fix this? It's extremely annoying... sometimes I just want to throw my laptop in the wall because of this. Any extra info you need, please, tell me. • Compaq Motherboard gives "CPU Fan Error"

  I have a motherboard for a HP business desktop dx5150 PC. The model written on the board is "MS-7050" and it is for an AMD socket 939 processor. I got everything installed in it, and when I turned it on, it showed a message stating that there was a "CPU Fan Error" (or some similar language) and then turned off. It never stays on for more than about 30 seconds, probably less. The fan had previously been working great, but I replaced it anyway with a brand new Cooler Master fan. This did not work. I then reset the BIOS with the jumpers on the board, no dice. I replaced the CMOS battery. Same error. I then replaced the entire computer power supply with a brand new Antec, same error. The fan header is keyed, and has room for 3 pins. The CPU fan is designed the same way, so its not that I'm missing a temperature sensor or anything. Can anyone give some suggestions? Especially maybe some secret keystrokes to bypass this error?

• Outlook signature distribution tools ?

  Hi We are soon changing our corporate identity, and as such we will need to change our outlook signatures. However, being some 125 people, my colleague sysadmin and I don't want to go around changing these manually, and are thus looking for a good way to do this fully automated. Most of our desktops are XP, with the exceptional few running Win7. Most run Outlook 2007, some run 2003. Our environment is AD-centered, and most of the information will come from AD (telephone number, title, ...). The biggest problem I can see so far is that because we are bilingual (Dutch and French), there will be 2 versions of the signature, depending on what the person has as main language. People currently do not have anything in AD to distinguish this, but we could create a group for it, or perhaps add some sort of attribute. A cheap if not free tool would be great. eMailSignature could probably do most, if not all, of this for us but it's a rather expensive tool costing some 1250 euro. We just want to distribute the signatures, actual "management" is less important as job titles don't change all that much. Any tips are welcome!

My question at stackoverflow had two small images showing the example rendering of text. As a new user at superuser, I am not being allowed to include them here, nor I am allowed to post more than one hyperlink. And, I don't have enough reputation on SO to migrate that question. Please look at the stackoverflow question for the images. Sorry about the inconvenience.] I sometimes edit text in telugu language. However, when I open the file (UTF-8 encoded) in GNU emacs (version 23.1.50.1 on Ubuntu Jaunty) the text rendering is incorrect. The same text file opened in gedit is rendered correctly. • How to reproduce the behavior of Mac OS X's dead keys on Windows 7?

  I'm French, but I've chosen to take a QWERTY keyboard for my MacBook Pro for many reasons: first of all, the AZERTY keyboard is not at all ergonomic because it has no numeric keypad, and I must use MAJ or CAPS LOCK to access to the numeric keys ; secondly, I've bought this mac for development ; and chars {, }, etc., are not directly accessible on the Apple AZERTY keyboard the last thing is that: the diacritics are VERY easy to produce on an Apple keyboard with Mac OS X : ? + c for a ç, for example, and many dead keys easy to use (e.g. ? + e, then e give you an é. So, I have no difficulties to write in my native language with this keyboard under Mac OS X. BUT, when I boot on Windows 7's Boot Camp partition, or when I use applications from it through VMware Unity, it is no longer the same comfort! Without numeric keypad, it's impossible to use it for produce specials characters (e.g.: Alt + 0231 for the ç) I've tried many solutions, like auto replacement in Microsoft Office (e.g.: ,,c being replaced by ç), but for all my diacritics, I must type a space, then a back space before the replacement work. I've also tried third party software, as Texter, but it is very buggy and don't work properly (or don't work at all) in many case! So, is there a solution somewhere, to have this Mac OS X's nice and comfortable way of producing diacritics for Windows 7? Thank in advance for your help and your time!

I think that I can fix this if I run other (lighter) window-manager than KDE4. But that is not a solution occasional linux user. Do I have any chance to get StepMania under KDE4 completely working?

• Converting Audio To Video Output and Attaching Text?

  I am currently working on a project and before i get started i thought it'd be nice to check with stackOverflow community, and see maybe they can help me with this. The Idea: I have about a thousand MP3 files that i need to convert into Video files to be upload on Youtube for my work. Here is where it gets tricky i need to also attach the Text associated with the Audio to the Video as an Image. I was thinking .ppt. The Problem: I can do this one audio file at a time but it would take me a zillion years. lol!! The Question: Can I Create Some Kind Of Program Using Let's Say XML or JavaScript Or XHTML or some other programming language to do a MASS content creation and all i have to do is feed it the Information?? possibly a script?? or is it possible to create an example .ppt file and then hack it so that i can have it reproduce itself with different information?? • VirtualBox doesn't see raw partitions

  What I want to achieve is to set up virtual machine with VirtualBox. Host OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, guest will be (k)Ubuntu 12.04 on a raw partition. The first problem is that when I issue following command: VBoxManage.exe internalcommands listpartitions -rawdisk \\.\PhysicalDrive0 I get following result: Number Type StartCHS EndCHS Size (MiB) Start (Sect) 1 0xee 0 /0 /1 1023/254/63 715404 1 I'm guessing that VirtualBox is unable to see my partitions. • Finding the current user authenticated by basic auth (Apache)

  When you log in through a basic auth page, is the username you authenticated as stored anywhere (on the server or client machine), maybe in an environment variable? Background: I have a common web administration page for an e-mail server and I'd like to know who is doing what. When a user successfully logs in via basic auth, I somehow want to be able to identify them and log their actions. So each time a request is submitted, I can write to a log file. The basic format would be: $username ran a $function against $useraccount so if a user changed someone's permissions, eg: Admin-Bob ran a permission change against User-Scott So if errors occur, I can easily trace back in the log file what actions lead to the cause. I tried checking the %ENV hash to no avail, any Ideas? I don't really want to get into PHP-like sessions, because that would mean scrapping my basic auth, which gives me a fine degree of control already. If I have to code something with sessions, I'd need to implement a system to block users after maximum tries and so on, which I don't really want to code. I think this is better geared towards serverfault because it pertains to Apache moreso than the programming language. Sessions can be done in a myriad of languages.

I did spot this question, related to grep and awk which has some great knowledge but I don't feel the text qualification challenge was addressed. This question also broadens the scope to any platform and any program. I've got squid or apache logs based on the NCSA combined format. When I say based, meaning the first n col's in the file are per NCSA combined standards, there might be more col's with custom stuff. Here is an example line from a squid combined log: 1.1.1.1 - - [11/Dec/2010:03:41:46 -0500] "GET http://yourdomain.com:8080/en/some-page.html HTTP/1.1" 200 2142 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; C) AppleWebKit/532.4 (KHTML, like Gecko)" TCP_MEM_HIT:NONE I'd like to be able to parse n logs and output specific columns, for sorting, counting, finding unique values etc The main challenge and what makes it a little tricky and also why I feel this question hasn't yet been asked or answered, is the text qualification conundrum. When I spotted asql from the grep/awk question, I was very excited but then realised that it didn't support combined out of the box, something I'll look at extending I guess. • Is there a standard method for assigning nameservers to servers in a Windows domain?

  As the title asks, I'm wondering if there's any standard or "best practice" for how to actually assign nameservers (DNS) and manage the nameserver configuration for client servers on a Windows domain. I'm talking about the setting circled in the below image, in case the language of the question is not clear enough: This is for a large, multi-site environment, where ideally/hopefully all servers point at their site's Domain Controller as the primary DNS server, and a DNS server at a different site as the secondary DNS server. For simplicity's sake, we can say that the secondary server would be the Domain Controller at the home site for everyone, and there are no tertiary DNS servers (even though that's not actually the case). Try as I might, I can't seem to find a GPO setting for this (at least on FL 2003 R2, the Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Network - DNS Client - DNS Servers GPO is Supported on: Windows XP Professional only), and I find it rather hard to believe that the "best"/"standard" solution would therefore be either scripting up something to apply the DNS settings per site, or using a DHCP server to push those configurations out to the other servers via the DHCP Scope Options. So, is there a standard way of managing this configuration? (That's hopefully not "a script" or "DHCP Scope Option.)

• Installing ionCube on Windows 2008 64bit

  I've been trying to install ionCube onto my server but have not been having a lot of luck! My server is: Windows 2008 64bit PHP 5.3.14 Thread Safe disabled running as FastCGI In my PHP.ini I have : zend_extension="C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\ext\ioncube_loader_win_5.2.dll" The path is correct. The DLL is from the x86 NONTS VC9 version of ionCube and PHP is using the MSVC9 (Visual C++ 2008) compiler though I have also tried using the x86 NONTS VC6 version of ionCube. I'm not getting any error but I'm also not getting ionCube when using phpinfo(): This program makes use of the Zend Scripting Language Engine: Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2012 Zend Technologies Apart from the mail application pools I have also set all the applications in the application pool in IIS7 to use 32bit mode. I don't know if FastCGI is running under 64 or 32 bit mode nor how to switch it or whether it would make a difference? I know it can be a problem installing ionCube onto 64bit Windows but I have also come across threads whereby other people have also [somehow] managed to get it working but even though I seem to be doing the same as them I still can't get it working.

• Emacs 24.1: How do I restore i-search Ctrl-Y behavior from older versions?

  In emacs 24.1, when you do Ctrl-Y in an interactive search, it yanks the kill buffer into the search string ("it pastes the clipboard contents" in any-other-app's language) and tries to match it. In the last 20 versions or so, pressing Ctrl-Y matches the rest of the current line. I have two very common use cases: Match this line, revert the buffer, and search for the line (less often:) Where else is this text in the buffer? I tried modifying /lisp/isearch.el, switching the bindings for isearch-yank-line (which I want) and isearch-yank-kill (which I'm fine binding to the ridiculous \M-s\C-e key sequence). But I don't think this file even gets picked up. But I don't think this file even gets loaded. If I explicitly load it, I still get the 24.1 behavior. Here's my change: (add-hook 'isearch-mode-hook (lambda () (define-key isearch-mode-map "\C-y" 'isearch-yank-line) (define-key isearch-mode-map "\M-s\C-e" 'isearch-yank-kill) )) No change in the behavior. I even tried hacking isearch.el, still no change. This is on Windows btw, but I suspect it doesn't matter. Could someone tell me how I can restore the old binding?

• processes slow after some time of actively running

  i have several cron jobs running on an ubuntu machine. each one does some pretty heavy load stuff. The cron jobs are parsing files and the bigger the file the longer it takes them to parse it. The strange thing is that if i make the files too big ( like 30mb) the script kind of hangs. It starts processing them really enthusiastically but after some time (something like 5-10 minutes) the cpu usage of the process drops a lot and it gets into some "zombie" state. If prior to this the process in htop was using 70-80% of the CPU then after this drop occurs it slows down to something like 5-10%. the load average drops down as well. The status of the processes sometimes changes to D in htop, which AFAIR stands for zombie. Today i noticed the same behavior of processes of mysql when executing heavy queries (a query took something like 4 hours to execute). the cron jobs are mostly php and during their processing most of the CPU eats the php process and not mysql. so i think the issue is not with a specific language/program but with the way the processes are "managed". The only other place i've seen similar behavior was on my Amazon EC2 micro instance when after some aggressive use of CPU the CPU quota was taking effect and everything was slowing down dramatically. This is a dedicated machine running ubuntu. what may be the cause?
