• Scripting help - need to get phone number of AD accounts and then add them to contacts in trusted domain

  I have domain accounts that I have created as contacts in another trusted domain so that they can see them in their Exchange GAL. I need a way to extract the phone number field from UserA (user account) in DomainA and import it into UserA (contact) in DomainB. I get the logic, it's just the code (vbscript/powershell/whatever) that eludes me. The logic as I see it: Connect to source AD (ou/subtree) Extract user accounts from OU and subcontainers including first name, last name, display name, and phone number Connect to target AD (ou/subtree) Verify/match contact with extract in #2 above based on display name Update phone field with phone number in extract Write log of success and failures Anybody able to help?

• Is it possible to hide Launcher for certain apps?

  As 14.04LTS has been released I thought I'd try to make larger switch to Ubuntu - especially considering most of the apps I use at work are at last available in Linux versions (with the major exception being Rhino3d v5 - hope that it will be possible to launch it with Wine somehow). But as I use my PC for 3D design I need every damn inch of screen space. And this is where Launcher becomes a pain. While in general I like it (as well as the rest of Unity) when I do office work (emails, docs etc) it has turned out to be a major pain with 3D apps and tablet. I'd like to set launcher to hide when certain apps are maximized. Is it possible? If not is it possible to set it as intellihide/stay in the background globally, so it won't be visible when any app is maximized? Autohide is (sadly) not a good solution - the way Ubuntu handles revealing the hidden bar is tricky to work with when you use a graphic tablet (but to be honest I have gripes with it even when using a mouse). I need the bar to disappear or stay in the background so it won't take screen space - 3D apps have way too much menus that eat valuable screen space already.

• MapReduce job is hung after 1 of 5 reducers completed on single-node environment

  I have only one Data Node on my dev environment on EC2. I ran heavy MR job and in 6 hours noticed that 100% of mappers and 20% of reducers finished (1 of reducer shows 100% competition, other ones - 0%). Looks like job is hung between 2 reducer runs. I don't see any errors in log files. What it can be? P.S. • Websphere 7: Getting 'Internal Server Error' when accessing JSPs. Servlets ok

  I have just installed WS 7 on our stage server. The test server was done some months ago. I have deployed the same applications to stage as on test. One application is causing me problems. I call the login servlet but the result is an 'Internal Server Error' message. From my logs I can see that the servlet processed the log in successfully and redirects to a JSP. That is the last message. I can find no further info in any of the other standard out/err logs. I have tried creating a simple JSP containing only HTML - same error. If I rename the file to test.html, it displays correctly. The plugin configuration appears to be identical with the one on the test server (where everything works) Ideas anyone?

• Access Control Service: Programmatically Accessing Identity Provider Information and Redirect URLs

  In my last post I showed you that different redirect URLs trigger different response behaviors in ACS. Where did I actually get these URLs from? The answer is simple – I asked ACS ;) ACS publishes a JSON encoded feed that contains information about all registered identity providers, their display names, logos and URLs. • How to echo current document.title with Firefox Vimperator -> autocmd?

  When I try to do this :autocmd LocationChange .* echo document.title the first page that gets displayed makes no echo. If I proceed to the next tab, the title of the last tab gets echoed. Does anybody know how I can get for every landing on the page the title echoed instantly instead of when "leaving" the tab? And it only works every two times. If I go through my tabs 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 (next tab) the output will be (being at 1 currently) _blank Title of 1 _ Title of 3 _ Title of 5 _ Title of 7 _ (now being at tab 8) But I want Title of 1 Title of 2 ... Any ideas?

• Under what circumstances might an IIS6 website be automatically deleted?

  Late last week my colleagues did some hardware maintenance on one of our vmWare esxi servers. One of the guests is a Windows Server 2003 Web Edition system that runs our low-traffic web sites. We discovered this morning that one of those websites was no longer working with what appeared to be an SSL error. After logging in, I found that the web site in question had been deleted from IIS! Is it possible for this to happen without a user actually going in and deleting that single web site? All of the other sites were fine. The files for the site in question had not been touched. I just re-created the web site, assigned the SSL cert, and everything was working again. When I logged in, I did see the 'Unexpected Shutdown' dialog.

• Standalone server setup for compute capacity

  I'm developing an application for my company that will require a lot of compute capacity (running some very big mathematical calculations), and looking for some form of server setup to do this. For various reasons, we want to run this on-site in our office rather than hosting it externally. It's been a while since I last had to set up my own servers so I thought I would tap into the collective wisdom of serverfault! My broad requirements are: Budget $30-50k, with an aim to get as much compute capacity as possible for that budget 64-bit servers suitable to run Ubuntu Linux + Java Some relatively standalone rack that can be installed in secure office space Fast/low latency network connections between the servers, but don't really care about connectivity to the outside world Storage capacity shared between the servers - they don't necessarily need their own storage providing they can be booted from a common image Downtime can be tolerated (since the calculations are run in batch mode) The software itself is fault-tolerant, so there is no need for extra resiliency in the server setup (cheap replaceable commodity parts will be fine in general) Given these requirements what kind of setup would you recommend and why?

  I'm currently working on a small roguelike in XNA, which sees the player in a randomly generated series of dungeons fending off creeps, as you might expect. As with most roguelikes, the player makes a move, and then each of the creeps currently active on screen will make a move in turns, until all creeps have updated, and it return's to the player's go. On paper, the simple algorithm is straightforward: Player takes turn Turn Number increments For each active creep, update Position Once all active creeps have updated, allow player to take next turn However, when it comes to actually writing this in more detail, the concept becomes a bit more tricky for me. So my question comes as this: what is the best way to handle events taking turns to trigger, where the completion of each last event triggers the next, when dealing with a large number of creeps (probably stored as an array of an enemy object), and is there an easier way to create some kind of engine that just takes all objects that need updating and chains them together so their updates follow suit? I'm not asking for code, just algorithms and theory in the direction of objects triggering updates one after the other, in a turn based manner. Thanks in advance. • A can ping B, B can ping C but A cant ping C. How do i connect A to C (ethernet)?

  I have a computer at home with ip 192.168.221.xxx I have another computer at work that I can ping and it has 2 ip addresses: 192.168.1.xxx and 192.168.0.xxx. Those last 2 addresses have the same gateway ie 192.168.1.1 . The computer at work is connected to a hub. That hub also has an embedded device connected to it with address 192.168.0.xxx Now from my home computer I cannot ping this embedded device. How would I connect to it without changing the subnetwork it connects to? I can ping the embedded device from my work computer and I can ping the work computer from my home computer. So I am trying to connect to the embedded device from my home computer through my work computer. Port forwarding? how would I establish that on Ubuntu?

  I am trying to get samba working with groups. I am using CentOS. #sswords = yes lanman auth = no null passwords = no hosts allow = 129.130.155. netbios name = a server server string = base PHP server [team$] path= /var/www writable = yes valid users = @team force group = @team I have created a few users in linux, and added them to a group called team using groupadd -a -g username. I the attempted to login and got a NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_GROUP. If I comment out the two last lines in the config it works, but I wish to have group ownership and prefer just to be able to add users to a group in Linux and for it to work with the samba.

• refresh windows network performance counters in command line

  I am testing a USB device connected to a windows PC. When the device is connected then windows has another network interface going through the device. I need to get the bytes transffered for that specific interface, basically I need the data shown in the networking tab in the task manager for my interface adapter. I found this question which helped to get this info: ms windows network activity bytes send and receive in command line However I have a problem when I run multiple tests - each time I disconnect and connect the device there's another line for the interface, like below. • Service or software to auto-sync one server to another so they are identical?

  We have a main node in a DC data center and want to setup a back-up node in Seattle. The back-up node will only be used if the DC node goes down and we switch it over while DC node is repaired. The question is, what kind of services out there allow me to sync the data, I suppose we want to do it fairly frequently so if something goes down there isn't much loss in data between the time of failure and the last back-up/sync. Is there any common solution for this? It's Windows Server 2003 running Parallels Virtuozzo.

  How can I switch to the document to the left or right of the current document in Notepad++? For example, if I have documents A, B, and C open, and I'm currently editing B, I would like a shortcut to be able to switch to A (Alt-LeftArrow or Ctrl-Pageup) or C (Alt-RightArrow or Ctrl-PageDown). Is this possible? All I've found is a way to switch to next or previous documents based on the "history" of when the document was last opened (Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab), which are useful, but not what I want.

• Laptop changes resolution when the lid is closed/opened

  hi i've had a problem for the last couple of days where the resolution on my laptop changes when i close the lid i'm running windows xp professional sp2 on a dell inspiron 1501 the video chip is an ati radeon xpress 1150 according to the catalyst control center software i've got installed which i think came with the drivers or something i've seen this happen before but i installed an old game called road rash a couple days ago after seeing it mentioned on reddit and i'm wondering if it might be related anyone know how i can stop this from happening? i have a workaround where i can manually change the resolution to something else and then change it back but that's a lot of work to do every time i close the laptop which is a lot thanks!

• Rythmbox in Ubuntu 12.04 and Ipod touch

  I don't know if anyone else is experiencing something similar to this. I have an Ipod touch bought 3.5 years ago. It received the last software update a year ago. After that update I had no problems syncing it in Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10 (two different laptops). Transfer of music albums was flawless with banshee and it would even convert files to the right format automatically. Now, the same ipod touch, without any further software or firmware update does not work in Ubuntu 12.04 rythmbox. The device is mounted and recognized there, but when you drag/drop an album towards the device it does nothing. Before you guys tell me to do it, yes, I have tried with Banshee and gtkpod. The first also brings up an error message saying that the ipod does not support mp3 files, and gtkpod simply crashes all the time. The result is the same. What is going on here? Why a device that worked before does not work now in 12.04? I purchased some music in the Ubuntuone store, and would love to have it transferred to my ipod. Please no links to outdated online manuals with older versions of rythmbox or banshee (I've read them all). And again, nothing wrong with the ipod as it worked in 11.04 and 11.10 and it has not been updated since then. I would strongly appreciate any help provided. thank you

  Dear people, My Small Business Server 2003 failed to install this update SP2 for WSUS3.0. The update is not available for rollback. WSUS 3.0 is not to be found in my software configscreen or startup menu. Some files have been deleted from the hard drive and last but not least. The service will not run and .NET runtime errors keep flooding my logs. Question. How to remove an update or program which is not listed in add/remove software anymore. Since the update it fails to run WSUS. Event-id: 0 Category: none Source: .NET Runtime ERROR: This error keeps flooding my logs. I am hesitant to roll back to a system restore point since exchange is running on the same disks.... :)

• How long until the chirping stops or what can I do to make it stop?

  I know computers, I have been fixing them and building them for over a decade... but I don't know the exact electronics of them. My personal desktop PC is making an irregular, but constant, extremely high pitched chirping noise. I know this could be my hard drive, but I've heard that noise before and I believe this is a capacitor or part of the electronics. This noise is right at the edge of my hearing and I can feel it more than I can hear it. After a while, it starts to give me a headache and makes me physically sick. How long will this last? Is there anything I can do to fix it (short of replacing the entire motherboard)?

• Transferring Postfix install to new computer

  I have postfix installed on one computer, with DKIM and SPF working properly. What I'd like to do is start using a different computer instead, with the minimal amount of fuss. Mail servers have a way of baffling me, but I know there are things with cryptography going on here that I don't fully understand (and I don't really care to - I figured it out when I set up the last computer about a year ago, and am happy not to delve into it again). Right now, I'm working on the early steps of this process -- installing postfix on the new machine, and getting it going.   I'm trying to port a simple 2d top down shooter game from C++(Allegro) to Java and i'm having problems with rotating my character. I've been searching since last night and came up to few sample codes however noone of them worked. For example this just made my character to circle around the map: int centerX = width / 2; int centerY = height / 2; double angle = Math.atan2(centerY - mouseY, centerX - mouseX) - Math.PI / 2; ((Graphics2D)g).rotate(angle, centerX, centerY); g.fillRect(...); // draw your rectangle Any help is much appreciated.

• 11.10 install hangs at different places

  I've been trying to install Oneiric for some time now, and I've looked everywhere for a solution to the problems I've been having. So far, I've attempted four times to install it, so now I'm up to a point of panic. So I grabbed the 11.10 x64 iso from the website, and after verifying that the md5 hash is correct, I burned that onto my last remaining clean CD. On my first attempt, everything went perfectly up to the middle of the installation, and the progress bar stopped when it said: "configuring target system." I could do everything else, only the installation seemed to have stopped. After I googled my problem, I went and used the "check disc for errors" option, which said everything was fine. Then I tried the installation again, only this time, I selected "Install Ubuntu Now" instead of the "try before installing". Again, the same problem. My second and third tries didn't even reach the installation phase. It just stopped at the 5 blinking dots and never went any further. I used the same non-rewritable cd for all the attempts, as the error check didn't show any problems and because I'm currently out of usable cds. System: Core i3 CPU @ 3.4 GHz, 500 GB HDD (250g used for Win7, 70g used for preexisting system partitions, 180g unallocated).
