  • Help with collision detection method [on hold]

    I was wondering if any of you could spare me some time to go over some collision detection on my platform engine. i tried XNA a few years back but for reasons i wont go into online could not continue, my health is now at a state where i am ready to try again but due to my current circumstances (and age) schooling is out of the question so i turn to you guys for help. Whilst i can adapt the MS sample ok and have some great features, you will agree modifying code is not really learning. So i have spent the last couple of week going over my old MS code and lots of stuff online and decided on what i want and have ported most of it over to code that i understand 90% of. I have my player class that moves about, jumps with gravity, has animations and a bounding box that follows it around. I have my map & basic level class to load levels from text files. Its just how i handle the collisions that i am struggling with as i will want per pixel collision on some tiles(i have code for this in a pong game i made so that should be ok). I'm pretty clear in my mind on what i need to do its just putting it in code and in the right place, here's what i was thinking. I was going to do it all in layers, have a tile layer, a collision layer & an item layer this way i could make a nice map editor in Win Forms at some point. Anyway i need to read in the collision layer the assign each tile a rectangle and collision property, and this is where i get me. Would any of you be able to spare some time and go over this with me ? I will post some code later Regards Del

  • Laser range finder, what language to use? Beginner advice

    I hope this is the right place. I am a programming beginner, and I want to make a laser range finder, and I need advice about how to proceed etc. In a few weeks I will get a lot of dirt cheap 3-5V lasers and some cheap usb webcams. I will point the laser and webcam in parallel, and somehow use trigonometry and programming to determined distance. I have seen online that others made done it this way, I have purposefully not looked at the details too much because I want to develop it on my own, and learn, but I know the general outline. I have a general idea of how to proceed. The program loads in a picture from the webcam, and I dunno how images work really, but I imagine there is a format that is basically an array of RGB values.. is this right? I will load in the red values, and find the most red one. I know the height difference between the laser and the cam. I know the center dot in the image, I know the redmost dot. I'm sure there's some way to figure out some range there. TO THE POINT: 1) Is my reasoning sound thus far, especially in terms of image analysis? I don't need complete solutions, just general points 2) What I need to figure out, is what platform to use. I have an arduino... apparently, I've read it's too weak to process images. Read that online. I know some C I know some Python I have Matlab. Which is the best option? I do not need high sampling rates, I have not decided on whether it should be automated or whether I should make a GUI with a button to press for samples. I will keep it simple and expand I think. I also do not need it to be super accurate, I'm just having fun here. Advice!

  • Should I use my real name in my open source project?

    I developed a few freeware programs in the past which I had signed with my pseudonym Jardo. I'm now planning to release my first open source project and was thinking of using my full real name in the project files (as the "author"). I thought it would be good to use my name as my "trademark" so if someone (perhaps a future headhunter) googles my name, they'll find my projects. But on the other side, I feel a bit paranoid about disclosing my name (in the least case I could be getting a lot of spam to my email, its not that hard to guess your private email from your name). What do you think can be "dangerous" on disclosing your full name? What are the pros and cons? Do you use your real name or a pseudonym in your projects? I read this question: What are the advantages and disadvantages to using your real name online? but that doesn't apply to me bacause it's about using your real name online (internet discussions, profiles, etc.) where I personally see no reason to use my real name... And there is also this question: Copyrighting software, templates, etc. under real name or screen name? which deals with creating a business or a brand which also doesn't apply to me because I will never sell/give away my open source project and if someone else joins in, they can write their name as co-author without any problems...

  • Could Wordpress be used/extended as a medium-size ecommerce site? [migrated]

    Is wordpress reliable enough and could it be used with a proper plugin as a medium sized ecommerce site? We are talking around 1500 products here, estimates say around 5 to 10 costumers per day, usually returning ones. Some days none. I have a client who wants to sell online. We are situated in a country where people dont see web as something serious enough. Still, they literally have a budget of pretty much none. And 1500 products to sell online. Magento, or any other open source ecommerce platform are out of the question, there is just no resources for starting something like that. Or any time. Only way is something free, small, absolutely not resource hungry as Wordpress. I have to fight with making it work with only what i have at disposal. Also, if you can recommend any wordpress plugin for the job(WP-ecommerce?), i will be very thankful. I guess something paid, up to maximum 50$ would work too.

  • Trying to scrape a page with php/curl, trouble with cookies, post vars, and hidden fields.

    I've installed Visual studion 2012 RC. I'm working withTFS2012 and When I want to export an user story to excel I see the following error: "TF400422: Failed to open in Microsoft Excel: Error loading type library/Dll. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80029C4A (TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY))" I'm using Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010.     I have a certificate issued by a CA on our intranet (it's a V3 sha1 pfx file). When I use this in the signing part of my clickonce (vsto addin) project, I get the error: C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v9.0\OfficeTools\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Office.Office2007.targets(250,9): error MSB3482: An error occurred while signing: Invalid provider type specified. Does anyone know what's going on here? Thanks!

I am able to do encoding with a usb connected web cam but I cannot find a way to use the encoder to connect to ip camera connected to our switch. Does anyone have experience setting up an ip camera to encode into the Silverlight framework?

To me that implies that I'll need to use COM interop with Microsoft's upnp.dll (and the SL application will have to be out of browser and platform specific). We want to use WPF and I wanted to learn all of the modern UI design techniques available. Since I am fairly new to WPF I have been researching what is available. I think I have pretty much settled on using MVVM Light Toolkit (mainly because of its "Blendability" and the EventToCommand behavior!), but I wanted to incorporate IoC also.   • Setting a Visual State from a data bound enum in WPF

    Hey all, I've got a scenario where I want to switch the visiblity of 4 different content controls. The visual states I have set opacity, and collapsed based on each given state (See code.) What I'd like to do is have the visual state bound to a property of my View Model of type Enum. I tried using DataStateBehavior, but it requires true/false, which doesn't work for me. So I tried DataStateSwitchBehavior, which seems to be totally broken for WPF4 from what I could tell. Is there a better way to be doing this? I'm really open to different approaches if need be, but I'd really like to keep this enum in the equation.     I simply want flowing text on the left, and a help box on the right. The help box should extend all the way to the bottom. If you take out the outer StackPanel below it works great. But for reasons of layout (I'm inserting UserControls dynamically) I need to have the wrapping StackPanel. The wordage of that error seems to indicate something like an incorrectly referenced .NET framework or something (I'm targeting 3.5 in both my custom actions and its dependencies), but I can't figure out where to make a change to address this problem. Any ideas? ....     Is it possible to use the Biztalk adapter pack whithout a Biztalk installation (Biztalk license is available)? I want to use the Biztalk Adapter for SAP RFC calls within a .NET Application (as a replacement of the SAP Connector for .NET, which is unfortunately no longer maintened by SAP and I don't can use third party products like "ErpConnect").     Hi, I have a main form which contains multiple worker threads. These threads raise events which update Telerik controls on the main form. The event handlers contain code which check if InvokeRequired and BeginInvoke where required. At random interval I am receiving the following exception, and have no idea on how where to find this?     I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 new clean install , not a VM, that I have added to a Windows Server 2003 based domain using my account which has domain admin rights. The domain functional level is 2003. I performed a clean install of SQL Server 2008 R2 using my account which has domain admin rights. The installation completed without any errors. I logged into SSMS locally and attempted to add another domain account by clicking Search, Advanced and finding the user in the domain. When I return to the "Dialog - New" window and click OK I receive the following error: Create failed for Login 'Domain\User'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) Windows NT user or group 'Domain\User' not found. Check the name again. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15401) I have verified that the firewall is off, tried adding a different domain user, tried using SA to add a user, installed the hotfix for KB 976494 and verified that the Local Security Policy for Domain Member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel Domain Member: Digitally encrypt secure channel Domain Member: Digitally sign secure channel are disabled none of which have made a difference. I can RDP to a Server 2003 server running SQL 2008 and add the same domain user without issue. Also if I try to connect with SSMS to the sql server from another system on the domain using my account I get the following error: Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18452) and on the database server I see the following in the security event log: An account failed to log on. Subject: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: - Account Domain: - Logon ID: 0x0 Logon Type: 3 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: myUserName Account Domain: MYDOMAIN Failure Information: Failure Reason: An Error occured during Logon. Status: 0xc000018d Sub Status: 0x0 Process Information: Caller Process ID: 0x0 Caller Process Name: - Network Information: Workstation Name: MYWKS Source Network Address: - Source Port: - Detailed Authentication Information: Logon Process: NtLmSsp Authentication Package: NTLM Transited Services: - Package Name (NTLM only): - Key Length: 0 I am sure that the "NULL SID" has some significant meaning but have no idea at this point what the issue could be.

    I've got a project template that works for Visual studio 2008 but when I try to use it for visual studio 2010 I get "...The imported project "C:\program files (x86)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v9.0\VSSDK\Microsoft.VsSDK.targets" was not found. The only thing I get from that is that it's looking for something in the 2008 SDK (which I have not installed but I would like to port the template to work with the VS 2010 SDK) ANy ideas on what I need to do to get the template working with the 2010 version?

    I just installed Visual Studio 2008, and am looking to use the Microsoft Intermediate Language Disassembler (ILDASM.exe) to look at some DLLs. Problem is, "ildasm" is not recognized on the command line, and I cannot find ildasm.exe anywhere in my VS 2008 install directory (e.g. c:\programs\Visual_Studio_9.0\). Any ideas? UPDATE: Found it! At C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\bin This answer helped.
